Default POSITIVE FRIDAY!!!

HAPPY FRIDAY, EVERYONE!!!
Helmets should be like putting on your clothes when riding something other than in a cage/car. It only makes sence to me a rider, to know not everyone looks around while driving for the people not protected or surronded by steel. Especially in the summertime with radios turned up, windows closed, and air conditioning running there is no way I would not wear a helmet while riding.

Today I am realizing that I cannot make myself drink my water in the morning/later is okay but then I'm in the bathroom all evening, I would rather spend the time at work in the bathromm, ha!ha!.....I process HMO referrals all day long. Looking at surgeries, tests, ya know, anything that can happen. SO getting up from my desk is something to look forward to, getting the seceratary spread was not on my intentions but everyone brings in munchies and candies and leave them here in our department and they only come visit their goodies. I have to look at them all day. It is so hard to resist.
Does anyone have any ideas to make the water go down earlier? I also tried chewing pumpkin seeds which are so salty I need to H20 to keep from coughing then bloating follows because of the sodium, Oh what to do?? Well enough gold plated problem solving---hope all is well

CRONE: THANKS, AGAIN & AGAIN !!!

HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND EVERYONE

Default What can you do in 6 hours, 46 minutes?

Well .... you can walk a marathon!!!! Yeppers -- 26.2 miles in 6 hours, 46 minutes. (( (( whoo hoo! )) ))

My 15-year-old daughter and I had the BEST time in San Diego. We visited with my Navy daughter (who's being reassigned to Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, in a few weeks) and saw all kinds of sights. It was AWESOME to have both of my children there for me at miles 14, 22, and the finish line. My aunt gave my girls a Hawaiian lei she made with 250 miniature carnations from her garden, and they put it around my neck as I crossed the finish line.

It was a real family effort -- from all my friends and family who supported me throughout the weeks of training (including my 3 Fat Chicks sisters!) to my daughters at the finish line.

THANK YOU!

Angry Today is Friday!

And I'm NOT OVEREATING, hooray!!! Had a healthy dinner and even a piece of key lime pie (high fat) and then a BLUE INITIATIVE blueberry/strawberry/ice slushy thing I made in the blender. Very full of antioxidants and the GOOD NEWS IS there really is LIME in the pie, so I think it counts as Vitamin C. What could be better?

NEWS FLASH!!! VENUS ENVY COMPLETED A MARATHON IN SAN DIEGO!!! When interviewed at the finish line, she wore a lei made from 250 miniature carnations and said, "Well .... you can walk a marathon!!!! Yeppers — 26.2 miles in 6 hours, 46 minutes. (( (( whoo hoo! )) ))." Congratulations, VE, we knew you could do it!

Perle, I love your quote; may I repeat it?"You may pass violets looking for roses and contentment looking for victory. You must be the change you wish to see in the world."Gandhi

BTW, Perle, slushy drinks with just a bit of fruit and ice are wonderful way to get water in. You can keep these in the fridge at work and shake 'em up a bit with Splenda (not lots of fruit or Splenda, just a little). Crystal Light and similar drinks also provide water, but it's best to cut the amount of CL way, way down so its mostly water. Tea is healthy, but it subtracts from water intake, so you have to drink extra water or just make it really weak with mostly WATER or get decaf!!!! Also a twist of lemon or lime (or the juice) makes water refreshing ... add Splenda if you must.

The GOOD NEWS I've been reading about water lately is that some experts (as opposed to me) believe that our water bottle toting society is overestimating the need to drink water all the time. This school of thought emphasizes that we DO get water from the food we eat (including skim milk, fruit, etc.) and that reported widespread dehydration is a fiction and that water needs vary from individual to individual. Of course, I live in Arizona, so drinking lots is still in MY plan as long as I'm exercising outdoors. Opinions vary, though, and that's all to the GOOD!!!

But the really important thing, IMHO, to remember about water is DON'T drink the municipal water in my town!!! Buy a name-brand bottled water instead (lots of bottled water or water in little kiosks is just taken from a municipal water source and bottled, so in my opinion, a name brand with a source listed on it is best). The good news here is that there really ARE good brands out there that one can trust and THAT WE HAVE THE BRAINS TO FIND THEM! What could be better than that?

Default Kaylets ...

I missed you before because I clicked on the last page and you were on the previous one!!! I DO remember the Little Engine That Could ... "I think I can, I think I can, I think I can, I can, I can, I can!" That was my favorite story when I was little. I don't know if it was a steam engine or just an engine engine that could could could could could!

I do see where you are going with the steam engine and the glugging, though! It's a neat idea and made me glug some water from the fridge (it's so hot, I just drink straight from a half gallon jug). I'm really close to a binge at the moment BUT THE GOOD NEWS (wait for it) ... IS your little steam engine story reminded me that I'm NOT hungry but I AM just out of steam ... a temporary condition. BTW, congratulations on passing on the "grab" brought on by job upheaval!!!

I think I can!

Walking a marathon -- that is inspiring
Good for you!!!

Stduies, studies, studies, isnt it funny? Is Coffee, Wine, sugar, salt, tobacco, chocolate -- you fill in the blanks--good or bad for us ??Sometimes I wonder who is funding the study ???

On the water study- I just read a long study how a body lacking water will make up the difference by enlarging the fat deposits--
and holding onto any existing water -- which will show up as swollen fingers, ankles etc- and how diruetics are couterproductive - as soon as any water is lost the body works twice as hard to hold onto more-- very similiar to the "starvation mode " when your metabolism slows down.

I have learned I need to take it all in with a grain of salt ( not literally !!)

It does make sense to me that water must be better for us than the chemicals in soft drinks- I also know that soda does make me retain water and then my feet hurt- I used to blame my shoes until one day at work the soda machine was down a couple days and all of a sudden I realized, "my feet dont hurt!!"

In other words, I suggest doing what works for you- Water works for me - I get compliments on my skin, I feel zippier and I am convinced if I dont get too thirsty, I am not prone to "grabbing " the first thing I see when I'm hungry.

PS-- It does make sense to me that there's lots of water in fruits and vegetables but isnt that another reason for so much overweight? People are not eating fruits and vegetables??
Again, as long you know what works for you!!

Its going to be a glorious weather day here!! I plan on hitting lots of yardsales (tag sales for the northeners!!) -- Hope everyone has a great day !!! CHUG CHUG CHUG CHUG!!!! I think I can, I think I can, I think I can !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Default MONDAY BRIGHT AND EARLY

How did the weekend go by so fast!!
It was beautfiul weather all weekend so we did a lot outside - Saturday, lots of walking while yardsaling, yesterday, lots of gardening. I didnt do as much as my husband because I got burned a little bit and don't do well in the sun but at least I was out there for awhile!

Weather is supposed to warm up quite a bit today so I'm glad we made so much progress in the garden yesterday. Maybe the heat will motivate some of the plants to GROW, GROW, GROW.

Start a new job this morning. Ordinarily, I would have been too nervous too sleep but I guess all that excercise wore me out!!
Is that what they mean when they say excercise is calming? Because it makes you tired to think about it?? Hee, hee!! Never thought of it that way before!!

Hope everyone enjoys the day!!

Talking GOOD NEWS!!!!

GOOD NEWS, GOOD NEWS, GOOD NEWS!!! Ok, I don't have any special news, but it's a beautiful COOL morning and I've already walked 30 minutes and done a bunch of stuff and the really good news from my personal perspective is that I AM ALIVE, WOO-HOO!!! As long as I'm alive, the potential is there for me to achieve my goals and yes even lose weight. I am now on The Azure Initiativebecause my pal (The Scale) was playing a game this week and actually went UP, though my weight management behavior has been good. But I have rearranged all my goals and attitudes and I WILL SUCCEED (someday, somewhere when I least expect it).

Kaylets: I always find exercise calming, too. It's just the best medicine! Hope you are enjoying your new job!

Mom: Sounds as though you're enjoying your new house, if not exactly the ritual of pacifier cessation! It shouldn't take long, though, so good luck on that!!!

To paraphrase Ghandi, I AM the change I wish to see in the world!

Great days ahead!! Everyday is a GOOD days, just some of them are GREAT!!!!!

crone-thanks for the H20 tip, crystal lite sounds like what I will try.
I also read somewhere that because of dehydration you may start to crave sweets, makes sence to me from experience before I really started drinking water here at work. It would be all coffee and between that being a diuretic and me adding "lotS" of sugar, by 3 p.m. I needed a snikers bar. Now I feel healthier, I feel hydrated-not dry from being surrounded by piles of patient's paperwork.

Also trying to take the stairs all the time here-going up to third floor four times a day.

From "everyday workout w/Cynthia Kereluk" a swedish proverb---
Fear Less Hope More
Eat Less Chew More
Whine Less Breathe More
Talk Less Say More
Hate Less Love More

And all good things will be yours

Peace and happiness to all

Default The Law of Random Scale Assessment

One time I wondered what it would be like to do a marathon that features only flat roads and downhill declines. No hills, letting gravity aid in the push to the finish -- wouldn't that be FANTASTIC? (( (( Yee haw!! )) ))

But the truth is that I can be ferociously competitive at times, and I'd feel like I was fudging bigtime if I did that race, that I didn't really deserve the victory, the medal, the free Gatorade, the tee shirt. And wouldn't it be weird to only work my quads without strengthening my glutes, or my tibialias anterior without working my calves?

Maybe scales are like that. When all they do is go down, down, down, we can't fully celebrate all the incredible, awesome effort it takes to get to our goals. Maybe the ups make for a sweeter victory than consistent downs.

Here's to marathons with hills! *raising her bottle of water in a toast*

Talking Yo!

VE! You are inspiring me! And I am drinking a toast to you (water) as I type! I want to do a marathon and I want to be a sleek, amazingly fit racewalker when I grow up (that's as opposed to just growing old!). I've only done an organized exercise 'walk' once ... when the county animal shelter was on my beat about 10 years ago in the midwest. I had just obtained Old Dog (who was Young Dog then) and bursting with the desire to be of use to the folks I wrote for and about, so I had my whole newspaper sponsor me for the shelter's walk-with-your-dog marathon (was only five miles as I remember). Young Dog was most uncooperative in that instance and tried to jump all over the other contestants and kiss them and chased every rock on the side of the road and various other delaying tactics, so I was the last to finish. Dog and I never entered anything again. She's useless as an exercise partner to this day.

Re downhills, though, I'm thinking they are harder on the legs than the ups and ups are making the heart stronger as we go, too. So for me, it's only UP, UP, UP! Like that astronomer guy used to say on the PBS series: "Keep looking up!"

Perle: I love the Swedish proverb, especially the whine less part. If everyone in the world did that, it'd be a start for Heaven on earth (or Nirvana or whatever one calls the perfect place or spiritual state). I think you're right about water and sugar ... I know when I first came to this overheated place we are pleased to call a state, people told me not to drink too many sugary drinks or even too much of the gator because I'd get sick. I learned the truth of that ... cold water is best when running around in the extreme heat and when drinking the other stuff, cut it. A handy thing to do is fill bottles half full of either water or CL or whatever and when ready to leave the house, fill with cold water. It'll be melted and hot in an hour if you don't drink it, but it's handy for a trip to the store or a drive to a job.

My Azure Initiative is morphing into the revised 21-Day Challenge as posted by Babette this a.m. ... I WILL DO THIS! I am posting up a storm today when I have declared a posting cessation and should be doing productive type stuff but THERE'S ALWAYS TOMORROW!!! Confucious said: "Govern a large state as you would cook a small fish; do not overcook it!" I think that'd apply to the governance of our lives and weight management programs as well.

Smile affirmatives only

Hello all!! East coast has had been very warm the past few days which also means, HUMID AND MUGGY. The good news is that extreme heat cuts my appetite and almost forces me to drink water. We bought plants for the garden that needed to get in the ground ASAP so we were going out about 7pm to get it done.
The good news is that there is a rain front aiming at us so our new plants should settle in well. Its supposed to get cooler when the rain comes too.

I am coming home crossed eyed trying to cram as much into this overcrowded brain as I can. Its going to be a lot to learn but the good news is that my new boss seems very supportive and I am bring home lots of notes to study.

The good news is that a WW's group started there today so no one will wonder why I'm never without water or doing the stairs.
I am an online member so I wont be joining the group but it made me wonder when I saw the announcement on the board.

I'm not familiar with the Azure plan??

And I love the line in the proverb about less whining, more breathing...

Too hot to do much more than the gardening but the good news is that we are gardening rather than just sitting--

Until next time all!!!

Default Good News ...

Lime juice has zero calories per teaspoon, so by my calculations, it has no calories per tablespoon either, as 0 plus 0 plus 0 equals 0. So I made limeade with lime juice and Splenda and water and all for zero calories ... you'd never know it didn't have sugar. When I was little and stayed with my cousins at my grandma's house, we went to the corner drugstore and sat in a booth and drank Green Rivers ... I think it was lime and 7-Up! That was one of the last drugstores around there that still had a soda fountain (I realize I'm dating myself). I loved those and have never duplicated the taste exactly. I don't really have an ending to this story, but lime is one of the more POSITIVE flavors on the planet, I believe. Someday I will succeed in making low cal key lime pie.

Kaylets: Since I live in Arizona, I can relate to heat, but for me it kind of stimulates the appetite and increases cravings. People tend to just eat to make their bodies feel better or cooler at any rate! But I like the heat. People think I'm weird because I like to go outside and exercise in even the worst monsoon weather. It's all good! BTW, The Azure Initiative is just my latest six week weight loss "initiative" ... I love to use fantasies and colors and games to motivate myself. As part of The Azure Initiative, I've joined the revised 21-Day Challenge as posted by Babette (originally by Katrina from an eDiets concept). Azure is the color of my latest weight management journal ... there's more but I'll spare you!!!

I seem to be out of inspiring quotes or somthing, so I'll just say, 'Good-night, Gracie!' (which'll remind me of one of the most POSITIVE old-time comedy stars whose sweet funny personality has made me smile from time to time over the years! Don't know why I'm thinking about her right now, but I love that routine: George Burns says, 'Say good-night, Gracie!' Gracie Allen says, 'Good-night, Gracie.' You gotta love it!

Smile Postively affirmations only

One nice thing about getting older is having those memories--

I also belong to a Diabetic message board- Just this past weekend, there was some discussion about Key Lime Pie-
Do you know this recipe?

For Crust:
1-9-inch graham cracker
Lime zest
Thin lime slices
1 cup evaporated skim milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
Juice of 1-1/2 limes
2 drops green food coloring

1. Sprinkle gelatin over lime juice and let it stand for 1 minute.
2. Add boiling water and sweetener to gelatin mixture and stir until gelatin
is dissolved.
3. Refrigerate about 45 minutes or until slightly thickened.
4. Combine milk and vanilla and freeze 30 minutes.
5. Remove from freezer and whip at high speed until stiff.
6. Stir lime juice and food coloring into whipped milk. (Save remaining 1/2
lime for garnish.)
7. Slowly blend gelatin mixture into whipped milk.
8. Spoon pie filling into crust.
9. Chill until firm.
10. Garnish with lime zest and lime slices.
11. Cut into 8 even portions and serve 1 portion per serving.

Nutritional Information Per Serving:
Calories: 111; Cholesterol: 14 mg; Fat: 5 grams;
Carbohydrates: 14 grams; Protein 4 grams
Exchanges: 1 Bread and 1 Fat

Or maybe this one too??
Here is another, may be a little simpler.
Key Lime Pie

1 Keebler Reduced Fat Graham Cracker Pie Crust
1 (4-serving pkg.) Sugar-Free Instant Vanilla Pudding Mix
1 (4-serving pkg.) Sugar-Free Lime Gelatin Mix
2 Cups Non-Fat Key Lime Pie Flavored Yogurt (Aspartame Added)
1 Tablespoon Lime Juice
2 Envelopes Artificial Sweetener
1 Cup Lite Cool Whip, Divided

Combine pudding mix, lime gelatin mix, yogurt, lime juice and sweetener in
medium bowl. Beat with wire whisk until smooth. Stir in 1/2 cup Lite Cool
Whip. Spoon into graham cracker pie crust. Cover and refrigerate for at
least 1 hour. Top with remaining 1/2 cup Lite Cool Whip. Refrigerate until
ready to serve.

Serves 8.

Each serving = 4 points

I think they were also discussing a popsicle recipe I'll look for again. Last time I looked for popsicle sticks I had to go the craftstore!!

Anyway, I had a touch and go day -- My breakfast gave me such heartburn I couldnt eat the lunch I brought from home- I went to the drugstore and found the older Slimfast meal bars which I thought would be enough to get me thru the afternoon -- I didnt like the taste at all and only ate half of it. Luckily, I was busy enough it was almost time to go home before I even thought about the vending machine. The good news is I do have a backup plan if this happens again-- Its just making sure I have the backup there at the desk!!! Came home and ate about 3 pts of apples before dinner was ready but the good news is !!!! I got thru it!!!

Although for sure, I was not very motivated today!!!! but as I read somewhere else, "If you're pointed in the right direction, your feet will follow"

Good news is the rain is here - Garden is happy and its much cooler- The cool weather brings my appetite back. Good news is chickenbreast is on sale for $1.79 /lb.

Any tips on how to get water down when you have an upset stomach??
