  • I used to like the treadmill far more than running outside, but once I started running further I realised just how dull the treadmill is if you do any length of time on it. I'm OK for up to 30 - 40 minutes, but even though I can easily run for an hour, I tend to give up on the treadmill because I'm bored.

The same with outside though in a way, I usually run round a lake near me that's about 1.5 miles per loop, the problem is that if I decide I'm going to do 3 loops I do 2 and decide to give up because even though it's pretty it's repetitive. So today I ran as far away from home as I could and did a big circle once rather than doing a little circle three or four times.
  • I went for my Sunday swim today, lots of brats, but got a mile in eventually, it took a couple of hours due to the odd chat, and waiting for the brats to dissipate. I have decided its the parents of brats that are the real problem!!!

The Shentie site is really interesting, frus! I wish i could find something like that down here, perhaps on my week off I'll start looking.

Another busy week, we're doing core body tomorrow at lunch, body pump which is upper body on Wednesday and abs on Friday and cardio the other two lunches!!! Phew!
  • YP that gmaps pedometer is great! I was looking for something like that recently. And now I know!

Kykaree, you will just have to move to Hounslow

I went for a run this morning, not quite 9 miles, but approx 20 minutes, I was feeling a bit sick and shin splinty (a first) I think it was because I'd not had any breakfast, but thinking about all the "fat burning" I was doing I kept it up ok and it was better than not going at all!

We have DF's friends coming over for a meal tonight. I want to be healthy! Grrr! I've been ok so far, a little weekend treat of Brie and bacon, but it was lean bacon sainsbury's be good to yourself and brie is lots better than cheddar!
  • Quote: YP that gmaps pedometer is great! I was looking for something like that recently. And now I know!
I love that thing, I always put my runs into it when I get home, and use it for working out roughly how far I need to go to get the right mileage. And the calorie counter makes me feel virtuous too
  • All I've done this afternoon is washing and sleep. I am so tired by Sunday!!!! I'll blame the trip to Oxford, must be train lag

My mantra today has been "do not wear your jeans tomorrow". We have a daft "smart casual" dress policy (which basically means anything goes except trainers and sports wear) but it can be "suspended locally for operational needs" which our department is doing tomorrow, as we are getting posh visitors. As I sit on my fat bum all day I don't think anyone would even notice whether I am wearing jeans or not, however, best be compliant and do what I'm told.............for once!!!!!

Speaking of which, I am runing out of clothes again, my skirts are held up with safety pins at present!!!
  • Woo hoo! I've found some running buddies! They run on Tuesday evenings for about 3 miles and meet just down the road from me.

    I love the internet
  • What's a gmap pedometer? Sorry if I've missed in an earlier thread.

You are so going to do a marathon this year YP... I can feel you have the bug!
  • There's a link to it in my post in the last page - you can plot your route onto a map and it tells you how far it is, how many calories you burn etc. Try www.gmap-pedometer.com

Oh, and the first marathon hurdle is cleared, I've checked and my mother's coming to see me the weekend after that (I thought she was, but wanted to double check it wasn't going to clash). So if I get that holiday form signed off and the flights are still cheap at the end of the month, Berlin here I come!
  • I'm training for the moonwalk, which although it's walking, is a marathon lenght and I'm having to follow a training plan where I drag my a@@ out in all weathers. Everyone I've spoken to has a marathon tale involving lots of pain and vaseline (you know, the 'oh, I couldn't walk for a week- and my little toe fell off at 17 miles) but it's still going to be such an achievement
  • Hey Frus, is'nt that you on the "class training" page? knocking somebody's lights out I could'nt click on the other links though I kept getting the message "Whoops..could'nt find your page"

I've been an ultra serious chocoholic this weekend (as usual ) and even listening to all that you do still is'nt enough to get me motivated to get on that treadmill once I quit thats it my gym is a mess too I keep saying i'll get all the junk out and make it more appealing hoping that that will get me interested hmmm i'm going to print out a new weightloss progress sheet now and get the awful truth written down in black and white
  • That's me on the class pages! The external links don't seem to be working.... I shall have to do something about that! We'll see if I can fix it today! They're just the ones everyone knows about anyway!

Ate for Britain last night, we had visitors round and I bought mini gingerbread men, chocolate brownies and pringles and pizza. It was all very tasty!

Feeling full of the joys this morning, completely awake (I should think so after sleeping all weekend!!!) and ready to go! Yahoooooooo!
  • I need some sort of course on how to use Gmap, it doesn't make sense to me at all!!! My Luddite tendencies are coming out!!!

I had a good day yesterday, gym at lunch, then at home as well, because dear Bob, our instructor, isn't very good and I didn't feel our lunch time workout was hard enough.

And I had my annual appraisal and survived. And my food was good. Lets hope we have a loss this coming week!!!
  • Ok, kykaree, search (type in the top menu bar thingy) for the place you live (so you get vaguely the right area) you can zoom and scroll the map. Then click on record route button (top left) then DOUBLE click (this is where I was going wrong) where you're going to start your route and keep double clicking at corners/curves in the road since it basically joins up the double clicks and draws lines. It then adds up the distance of the lines. I think you may need to click on "Complete" to get the distance in KM or "English"

    Hope that helps!

Had a mega workout day yesterday, pushed myself really hard on my weights and didn't drop anything on my foot, so it can only be good!
  • Yep, that helped, worked it out, now I am addicted planning 10k routes around the place. I have decided to have a running break in Llandudno in April. By which time I will have completed couch to 5k. I picked Llandudno because I love it, and it's flattish with a few hills!

It's really nice to have something other than weight to think about!!!
  • I'm just planning 5Ks at the moment, with HILLS!

The proper route for the capital 10K is up if you're interested... I might go and suss it out on week in "training" but not for a week or two yet! I guess it'll be pretty flat, not many hills in hyde park!
