Unhappy Scales moving in the wrong direction - help!

Over the past three weeks, I haven't managed to lose any weight. In fact, my weight is moving up again - from about 65kg three weeks ago to 67kg now.

I'm at a bit of a loss. I'm not on a strict diet (I wanted to break the 'diet' mentality) but I've been eating better (lots of fruit and veg), and I've been running every weekend since the start of the year, plus going to the gym at least three times a week.

Am I kidding myself by not counting calories more closely? It's that why I'm not shifting the weight? What do you think? Any advice greatly appreciated. x

I'd start counting- and are you weighing and measuring? It's VERY easy to over-eat when you eyeball portions.

Hi beerab

I'm not weighing or measuring at the moment. I always feel I'm getting rather obsessive when I do that and wanted to embrace the whole 'this is not a diet, this is a whole new lifestyle' ethos. Maybe I'm having to rethink that attitude - I must have been overeating if the scales aren't doing what they're meant to...

Sometimes when we work out a lot we compensate for the calorie burn by eating more. In particular, when we do high impact cardio (such as running), our bodies tend to crave more carbs to make up for the energy expended. I know that when I was running I had to keep an even closer eye on my calories or I'd go WAY over.

Right, you've convinced me. I do have to set a daily maximum amount of calories and stick to it. Let's hope that'll get the scales moving in the right direction again!

Just thought I'd post an update on this. At my last weigh-in, all was back to normal and I had come down to 65kg again.

I really don't think it was down to anything I did (I didn't really change my diet and enough time hadn't passed anyway). So I wonder if it's just an example of how much weight can fluctuate throughout the month. Bizarre, but I'm not complaining...
