  • Hi everyone, cloudy and dreary today. Didn't get to last weeks meeting. Had a lousey sinus infection. Need sunshine.
  • to the top
  • a new start!
Just rejoined TOPS yesterday Wednesday September 10/03
Need to get my act together. After getting cancer and having the surgery 3 years ago and then it returning and going through a gruesome time of 7 weeks radiation -- well time to get things going the right direction for my weight. The doc's saying that all this weight in the stomach is producing estrogene which promotes cancer cells -- soooo it is time to get it off - like now.

Started exercising in January 2/03 -- walking. Must say when I started I did not enjoy it but I am now. Gives me time to unwind/destress. I was doing 2 - 3 miles each time I walked (4 - 5 times weekly) but after the radiation I am having to build back up to that. Am doing 1.25 - 1.50 each time so am getting there.

Next post I will put up how my walking is broken down per month as per my walking chart -- it has really helped me keeping this chart. Looking at a map we have marked it out starting from Vancouver BC Canada -- I would now be between Cochrane and Calgary Alberta -- about another 20 miles to get there -- should be able to do that this month. Today's total mile's walked comes to 620.25 I believe.

Anyway for September my weight chart would look like this:

    Sept 10/03:
    Heaviest Weight: 286
    Current Weight: 267
Weekly loss: nothing to record as just started this program
    Total pounds lost: 19

    Next Weigh in Sept 17/03

    Marilyn/Sprout

(NOTE: I am keeping a journal should anyone want to look it up -- haven't figured out how to have it linked here yet -- everything I tried re putting it into the signature has not worked)
  • going to get better!
Got weighed yesterday -- could not attend meeting so in morning went to clinic - doc. office - and used the balance beam scale there so I would have a record of the weight

So here is how it is going

    Sept 10/03: Heaviest: 286
    Current: 267.5

    Sept 17/03 Current: 268.5 +1 for week
    -18 from heaviest recorded weight

Just a note that I have always thought strange:
At TOPS meetings all weights are private -- no problem -- you just report ups or downs not the acutal weight.
But every year we have elections -- and usually get new leaders each time. Eventuall, if the group is rather small, everyone could have a change at leading -- so eventually all would have access to the weight records -- so why the privacy in saying the actual numbers?
As the pledge says 'all the world can see what a fool I have been' - they can see that we are overweight -- so why not just admit the numbers?

    Just a thought!
  • Actually in most of chapters that I know there is not a big turn over in leaders. Plus a leader should never tell the weight of anyone. Also in many chapters the weight recorder is usually the same person for long periods of time. But bottom line is that we are required to give everyone a private weigh in. Some people like myself do not care if someone knows what I weigh. But I have some ladies that would be shattered if anyone told their weight. So it is just the way it is. At a really small chapter most people probably already know
