judydc 07-14-2006 11:25 AM

Yaay, Nikki!!!

Just a very quick note before I head out for an office "field trip" to see the movie An Inconvenient Truth. I might not get to a computer for a few days, so if not, hope everyone has a great weekend! 'll be entertaining my brother and his lady friend, who will be in town for most of the coming week.

Keep it going, gals, you are all wonderful!

 judy

Marie 07-14-2006 09:13 PM

Hi Everyone!!!

Nikki, congrats on the weight loss. And I'm sure glad you are through with yesterday. It sound like a lousy thing to endure.

Judy, unjoy your field trip and weekend. Remember to be good. :)

Carol, I saw hungrychick.com through a different site and I signed up for her daily emails. I've really liked the info she shares.

The Cocoavia bars are a dark chocolate. I'm not too fond of milk chocolate. I like the rich taste in dark. I get mine from Walmart in the sports bar section by the pharmacy. Be warned, they are spendy - 4 or 5 bars for around $5. That's why I don't have them often. I like the chocolate bar with blueberries and almonds best. BTW they have a web site at cocoavia.com.

I had a horrible day at work. Supt assistant met with me because our ADM from our student info system wasn't matching with what I uploaded to the state. After researching, the dept of education had a problem with their database and deleted 100 days of ADM from around 600 students. We calculated it out and it was about 1.7 million dollars. Deadline of changes was today. Because it was their fault and every record has to be hand fixed, I was given an extension until after my vacation. Of the records, I got 240 fixed but what a pain. Nothing like doing my job and having others screw it up for me. I was so mad. Now I'm just resigned to fixing they're mess. Oh, then on top of it their server started malfunctioning mid afternoon and I couldn't fix more records.

But I did exercise this am, WATP 3 miles and toning. I probably with jump in my pool in a bit, but I doubt I'll do laps. I just want to relax. I'll probably work on the bad records throughout the weekend. I'd rather not leave for my trip with that hanging over my head. Hopefully they fixed their server by tomorrow.

I did lose .2 pounds from Tuesday's weigh in. I'll take any gift the scale gives me. So other than the work fiasco, the day was pretty good.
Marie

Nikki128 07-15-2006 09:14 AM

Hi everyone-

Marie- Sounds like a cruddy day. I hope today is better for you. I'm still feeling the effects of thursday so I think I'll put off exercise until Monday. I did not eat that great yesterday because I was nauseous so I grabbed crakers, popcorn, soup and a little ice cream. In small quantities throughout the day when I had a break from the nausea. I also had lots of soda because that always seems to help when you are nauseous. Today I will try to go back to eating right. Hopefully the nausea will be at bay.

Those chocolate bars sound divine lol. I usually buy a bag of dark hershy kisses or linds dark chocolate balls. They last awhile and are not to many calories each.

Nikki hurray!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Me too but only a little loss .5 but 1 lb. less than yesterdays number. I only have 1.5 to go. But the clam bake is today! So I guess I will enjoy it and try to make some good choices but also eat the good clams with less butter. I ate dried mult. gr. cheerios for breakfast with 1/2 cup fresh blueberries trying to save my cals. Nothing else until 2 when the clambake starts. On sunday I promise myself to be good and eat only healthy foods and less than 1400 cals for the day. And for the next few days. I will use the scale on monday to monitor myself and pray to be the same at least. Then its forward march til friday!
Nikki try some pretzels when you feel that way the dr. says there better than crackers? When I was really ill he told me that. So ck it out. Worth a try. Marie I am also glad the week is over what the heck. I had just 3 weeks of heck! Its time things get better on the work front I say! I told people I can't fix peoples lifes that have been messed up for years I can only hope to make some improvements don't expect miracles. Oh well its saturday and I just colored my hair and showered and going to spend part of my day having fun eatting clams! Have a great field trip Judy. Stay healthy girls and lets reach these goals. Nikki I think your right we will either meet them or be darn close. A friend whom goes to ww says our site is just as good as that because we support each other and on a daily basis too. That is a great thing thanks for being here girls!

Nikki128 07-15-2006 09:57 AM

Carol-

I really love having you ladies here daily. It helps so much to have the support. Today I will try pretzels. Right now I was drinking water and the nausea is coming back :(

You should eat today but not overboard but don't skimp on something you really want just have a little.

congrats on your loss!

Nikki

Mirabai 07-15-2006 12:02 PM

Wow...you go girls!

I was really impressed to see that so many of you are staying with it and losing. This is a wonderful group. I am still trying to figure out who you all are and what you are sharing because there clearly is a history and at least for some time you have been sharing together and sharing your stories.

It looks like there have been a lot of successes this week and I have one too. I lost 1.5 lbs (weigh in on friday). I made it through my business lunch AND my dinner out on Thursday, but did tend to overeat some. Yesterday was a really rough day at work and last night I ate a bunch of crackers, though they are the healthy kind (Mary's Gone Crackers) and really tasty. Anyway, this morning I still had lost the 1.5 so that was great. I don't know about you all, but weekends are much harder for me.

So, I will be checking back in for sure. I am so grateful that this group is here you all sound really terrific! I am going to take some time and read back on posts to figure out who is who.

Nikki128 07-15-2006 01:03 PM

Hi Mirabai- Nice to meet you. I'm Nikki and I am working on a september challenge to lose 15 lbs well now I have 12 left. Feel free to join in and post often that is how we get to know one another. Congrats on your loss this week. I weigh in on Fridays as well.

Nikki

Marie 07-15-2006 05:37 PM

Hi Everyone, Mirabai, I'm glad you found us again. Just remember if we're overwhelming with some history, we all started here at some point. We've gotten some great posters along the way and lost a couple, but the thread moves on because it is so supportive. So please stay and we can help by telling you a little about ourselves (that way you don't have hours of reading to do).

Me, I have about 60 pounds still to lose. Thanks to Nikki's spring challenge I got myself in gear and have lost a little over 20 pounds. In 60 pounds I will be healthy and svelte. I'm an avid exerciser and an avid eater. So I had to change the eating sinc eI was gaining with increased exercise since I was hungry more. Regardless, I'm on track although nervous about the next week traveling. I've lost momentum several times on trips before so I'm a little worried about it.

Personally, I'm a wife, mother and grandmother. My DS and his GF live with us with their son while finishing college. There's a story in itself. I work for a school district as the database manager and webmaster. Most of the time I like my job but not yesterday. :D

Well, I'm going to go into town to meet DH for dinner. He has guard weekend and I'd like to get away from the others that live here. Love them but they can be too much occasionally. :)

We hiked with the doggies today and I did the 1 mile jog first thing in the morning. So it's been a nice day. Before I leave for town, I'm going to jump in my pool once again since it's a beautiful blue and is beckoning me.

Nikki I sure hope you start to feel better. Doesn't sound like you're overeating, just not eating stuff you'd normally choose. Regardless, take care of yourself.

Carol, I'm thinking of you at a clam bake. I hate fish/seafood but the bake sounds fun. I'd need a chicken tossed on the barbie though. :)
Marie

trob 07-15-2006 06:13 PM

hey all, i am so excited about finding your group. i hope that you won't mind having a newbie join in. okay, a little about me. i am 39, married for 17 years and have a son, 14, and a daughter 10. i have struggled with my weight since the birth of my son. 6 yrs ago i decided that it was time to make a change and became really motivated and then my grandmother died. i was able to regroup about a year later and then my father was diagnosed with cancer. i did loose about 20 pounds during his illness but i wouldn't rec. the diet plan. he died in feb. of 2002. in may of 2003 my mother was diangosed with breast cancer and my paternal grandmother died. my mom recovered, thankfully. in the fall of 2003 i lost two great aunts within 2 weeks of each other and then in feb of 2004 my parternal grandfather died. in june of 2005 my sister's mother-in-law passed away. my sister is older than me and her mother-in-law was like a second mother to me. so, here i am trying once more to get myself motivated and on track. i did an 8 wk. ww prg that began in feb. and was able to loose 16 pounds. bad thing is, when summer vacation began i found it very hard to stay on track (i am a teacher). i have now gained 11 lbs back and am feeling really depressed. i am so thankful that i found you guys. i think that with if i have someone to report to daily i will do much better. thanks!

penpal 07-15-2006 06:38 PM

Hi guys - sounds like everyone is doing well (execpt me!) I'm up 1-1/2 pounds this week :( Hopefully, it's still just water weight, but I can only use that for an excuse for so long

Sorry I've been m.i.a. for a couple of days. I've been preparing for a fund raiser by a womens' group I belong to - we host a tea tent at the Portland Highland Games. It's fun to see all the bagpipe players, dancers and marching bands, etc. Lots of hunky guys in short skirts and furry sporrans!

I baked seven dozen bakewell tarts and only ate one (that got smashed). I managed not to eat any of the other goodies we had for sale. Usually, I make myself sick by eating the broken bits non-stop! Our group has been participating for 30 years and we're quite popular at the Highland Games for all our British specialties. People line up 3 deep to buy them and get a cup of tea. I just got home and I'm zonked out. I've been on my feet all day and only had the broken cookie and a horrible (mystery) meat pie to eat all day plus about 8 oz. of water. Luckily, it wasn't at hot as usual and there was a nice breeze. I'm craving a big salad for dinner and I think I'll have a margarita!

Have a great weekend everybody!

Marie 07-16-2006 09:08 AM

Morning everyone,

:welcome3: to trob. Wow, you've had a lot of loss in such a short span. That you want to get back on track is wonderful. This is a great group and I hope you find the support you need. I also work for a school district but only have a short (3 weeks) time off in the summer. Past years I've had up to two months and that's when I can diet best. If I'm at home, I have almost zero trouble. It's the world around me that tends to throw me off. Try to set up the structure you learned in WW. Structure in my eating and exercise is what works for me.

Penpal, your tea sounds fun. I bet your were proud that you didn't munch on all the extras and not get sick this year. Last week I made one of my favorite dinners and I nibble on so much before dinner that I'm usually not hungry by dinner. So last week, I chewed on a piece of gum while I made it and it worked - no munching. I've done that a couple times before and it works. BTW, I usually don't chew gum so it makes it a treat. Also, I'll be in your city for a couple hours tomorrow during the layover between flights. Somewhere around 12:30 in the afternoon.

DH and I are going rollerblading this morning, then I have to start to get ready for the trip. Wash clothes (thought it would be rude to bring the dirty laundry and borrow other's washing machines), get an album of DGS updated for the families, etc. Too much to think about so here I am...

Well, I'll chat later.
Marie

cacmsc 07-17-2006 07:13 AM

Penny what is a bakewell tart? They must be great! The Margarti sounds good too! Mix me one up while your at it. Good for you cutting back on the tarts. Every little change adds up I am learning.
Today I got on the scale a bit nervous as I had that clam bake. To my surprise I was down 1 lb. from saturdays scale day. Now I haven't been there since 5/2 I ck'd in my journal. Another good reason for tracking with a journal. So I have only .5 to lose by friday to reach my goal but am hoping for some more loss. I ate everything I wanted at the clam bake but made my choices wisely and that was the difference for me. I also drank lots of water this whole weekend. Sunday worked in the gardens and was careful of my intake and it paid off. Its about time I got into it huh? I have packed a healthy lunch w/ pita pocket, grilled chicken slices, lettuce and ready to go. With a yogurt for dessert. Taking my water too. A peach for snack in the afternoon. So I plan on being about 1400 cals for the day but not more than that. Marie you know gum burns calories I think if I remember correctly 20 cals per hour. So if you chew it 5 and burn a 100 cals not so bad of a deal huh? I find it helps me too when others are snacking to have a piece of gum. I hope for an easier week at work this week. Time will tell. At any rate I have friday off. First vac. day in awhile. I am going to take some time off in August and take the kids camping. I better put in for it today for Labor day weekend extended time off. I went with my sister inlaw to pick out carpets this weekend on more thing done. I am going to stop at her house again today to help sort some things out. She is a pack rat. It makes me go through my things more seeing her stuff from years of saving. I plan on one heck of a healthy week as far as intakes goes except for friday thats my day to splurge a bit. After my scale time of cours.
Mirabai and Trob welcome aboard and the more the better around here. We welcome everyone to join in and look forward to sharing ideas and learning from one another. Nikki you did get us all motivated when we needed a jump start thanks. Marie good job bringing that point up.
I am a young grandma of 4 grandchildren, 3 adult children two live local, 1 in Hawaii, have wonderful daughter inlaw and son in law and one future son in law thats getting hitched next June to my youngest daughter. My hubby and I are very lucky to have such good kids. Lovely family and I am a very motivated gram. I like to Kayak, camp, garden, decorate, quilt, knit, sew sometimes, cook and bake, entertain, play poker and go to the casino. I work with Developmental Adults as a coordinator of all their services, needs, desires and outcomes. Thats it!
Well time to go to work now. Take care and lets keep it moving. I only have 4 more day to lose a little more to reach my goal.

Nikki128 07-17-2006 07:17 AM

Trob:wel3fc:

Penny - sorry about the gain but way to go on not eating all the goodies.

Marie-Have fun where are you off to no?

carol- Way to go on your loss.

I am waiting to workout. I managed to swim a bit yesterday which was good I thought I would get no exercise in all weekend. I am hoping to see 155 by friday keep your fingers crossed. I ate off yesterday I had 2 burgers and a small piece of cheese cake. Also a WW meal for lunch. Not to bad but not to good either. Today I will have salad twice to balance it out.

Nikki

Marie 07-17-2006 09:29 AM

Morning everyone - well today was my challenge goal. I officially lost 12.8 pounds for the goal. Pretty cool. Many more pounds to go but I'm on my way.

I'm basically packed except the last minute stuff. We leave in 3.5 hours but we're taking the pups out hiking first. They're going to be so sad that we're gone that I have to do this at least for them.

Nikki, I'm so glad you're starting to feel better. I hope you see your goal. But alwasy remember if you're doing the healthy stuff your body will lose but in its own time. Also, I'm leaving for Minnesota for a week. That's where most of my family lives. DH and I deliberately moved across the country. :) That's why I eat when I'm there. So the test begins soon.

Carol, I'm glad you had fun at the clam bake. Making life black and white doesn't work so it's good to indulge every once in a while, especially if you can make those indulgances healthy!

Talk to you later.
Marie

Hi, Fit, Troub, and Mirabai! Good to meet all of you, and Mirabai, I'm glad you found your way back to us. I'm single, late 40s, been overweight since pre-adolesence. I have a long way to go--my first long-term goal is to be maintaining at 170 by the end of next year, which is still over 60 pounds away. It seems like I'm always gaining or losing. I've been nearly 30 lbs lighter and 35 lbs heavier in the past 7-8 years, and keep getting stuck right around 230-240...I've been in a rut for a while, but this thread keeps me pointed in the right direction, even when I'm not moving very much!

Will try to come back for personals later.

judy

penpal 07-17-2006 01:18 PM

Marie - Congratulations on meeting your challenge! :carrot: I hope you have a nice trip. I'll think of you when you stop over in Portland. I'll have to try your idea about chewing gum when tempted to eat something I shouldn't!

Carol - Congratulations on your 1 lb. loss! :dancer:
Bakewell tarts are basically a pastry crust (I use a mini muffin pan) with a filling made from ground almonds, eggs & sugar with a dab of raspberry jam inside. The filling puffs up like cake when they are baked. I make a big batch, freeze them and defrost one now and then with my cup of tea when I take a break. They have about 80 calories each and are a special treat for me as I love almonds.

Nikki - I'm keeping my fingers crossed for 155 to show up on the scale for you on Friday! :crossed: :goodscale:

Judy & Freda - Hope everything is going well with you guys!

:welcome2: Hello Fit, Troub, and Mirabai! Here's my bio: I'm a young-at-heart 56 years old, married 37 years with one son (22) who just graduated as an Engineer in June and two adorable Burmese kitties - Teddy & Tommy. I'm a breast cancer survivor (almost 5 years - yay!) and have been battling to lose weight for about 25 years. I was born in England and have lived in the States for 28 years and wouldn't live anywhere else (love it here in Oregon). I work at home in my DH's business (manufacturer's rep) and enjoy gardening on our 3 acres by the Tualatin River. I'm on the board of a fund raising organization that helps women in crisis and provides financial support to a retirement home for those in need. I also enjoy making soaps, crafts and reading. I work out 3x a week at Curves, which I love.

This is the first time I've been successful in sticking to a new way of eating instead of crash dieting and regaining. It's taken me 2-1/2 years to lose 36 lbs. I haven't regained more than a few pounds during that time and have gotten back on track and always managed to start losing again, even after loooooong plateaus! My motto: Quitting is not an option!

I have found wonderful advice and support in this forum and it's made my journey so much more enjoyable. The ladies on this thread have been very welcoming and supportive and I hope you enjoy visiting here as much as I do!

Nikki128 07-17-2006 01:26 PM

Penny- do you see a difference in the way the English eat and how we eat in America? Also, are we heavier then English people? I just thought that would be interesting to explore.

A little bio on me for the newbies:

I am a 27 year old who has been over weight since 2001 due to numerous health issues. In the last 2 years I have lost 40.8 pounds and have 27 more to go most of which I hope to lose by September.

Nikki

penpal 07-17-2006 03:36 PM

Nikki - It used to be that people over here were generally heavier than in the UK, but now there is a virtual obesity "epidemic" over there. Brits have always had a 'sweet tooth' with sweet shops on almost every corner and about three times the amount of different candy bars available over there. My personal favorite unheathy food was a Melton Mowbray pork pie (a kind of ham pie with a delicious crust). They now also have all the gourmet foods from Europe that we didn't have when I was a kid. This, coupled with the fact that people drive everywhere instead of walking, is causing a rapid fattening up of the population!

cacmsc 07-18-2006 06:54 AM

Welcome to all the newbies and there is always room on this site for more folks. Penny your tarts sound wonderful mind sending the exact amts. so I can make some? I like to make soap too. Just started last christmas. Maybe we can share a few ideas. I love mint scents. Thanks Marie I hope you have a wonderful visit be strong. Eat what you want but watch the portions. Take a smaller plate once its gone its gone. I started doing this for dinner. I use a smaller dinner plate looks like I have more food. I was a bit naughty yesterday for dinner I had BLT's. The bacon I did drain well and microwaved but still its bacon no matter how you cut it. The was my biggy for the day. I did use the stairs in and out all day and swam last night a little. So hopefully I didn't mess myself up. It is so easy to get off course. I am packing a healthy lunch with salad, grilled chicken, croutons, tomatoes and peppers. I love that new salad dressing spray its only 10 calories and taste like homemade. I like the red wine vinegar one. Well Judy every change in our eatting patterns becomes a habit after awhile. We all are working together and you have made some good changes after awhile our changes have to show up on the scale. They say if we do something for 10 days straight it becomes a habit. I think this is true. I go in my building at work take a look at the elevator and then walk to the left to take the stair case. It might be easier to take the ele. but the stairs are calling my name. Better choice for sure. Well good luck and Nikki hang in there your doing well. Glad your feeling better. My 5lb. mini goal is friday. Hope I make it and then some. Wishful thinking. Have a nice day I am off to work soon. Gotta have some cereal and blueberries first.

Nikki128 07-18-2006 08:07 AM

Hi ladies -

Penny - that is pretty scary.

Carol- good luck on your goal.

I am having major issues this morning. My parents are splitting up and I am stuck in the middle. This is causing massive stress. Mom is calling me 5-6 times in a 3 hour span and constantly coming in my room crying and stuff. I realize this is stressful for her but I don't think it is right to use me as her support. In addition I get left doing the housework. Getting an apt is not an option right now because of health and finances. Anyhow, yesterday I ate well I thought. I had 2 slices of turkey and rasins for breakfast, a WW meal for lunch and a ceaser salad for dinner. The scale shows a 2 lb gain today. I can only think it is the stress. I worked out yesterday and today and am eating right. Any ideas on what else this could be?

thanks
Nikki

penpal 07-18-2006 10:43 AM

Nikki - I feel so bad for you for what you are going through at home and hope that things calm down soon. Maybe you could gently explain to your mom that the situation is stressful for you too and that it could negatively affect your heath.

I am convinced that stress makes me gain weight. It may be a survival mechanism that makes us retain calories for a perceived emergency. When things are on a more even keel the weight will come off. Hang in there - I'll keep you in my prayers.

penpal 07-18-2006 11:19 AM

Carol - Here is the recipe for Bakewell Tarts. They are not exactly 'health food' but if you make them in a mini muffin pan (2" openings) they aren't too high in calories.

1 package of pie crust mix (I use Krusteze) or your favorite pastry recipe.

Seedless raspberry jam
4 oz unsalted butter
1/2 cup sugar
2 eggs
3 tbsp. self-raising flour
4 oz. ground almonds (I get mine from Trader Joe's or you can grind raw almonds in a blender or food processor)
2 tbsp. milk
1 tsp. pure almond essence

Roll out pastry to about 1/8" and cut out 2" rounds. Line non-stick mini muffin pan with pastry making sure pastry comes to the top of each opening (you don't need to grease pan if using non-stick kind).

In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar together till fluffy. Mix in beaten eggs, almond essence and milk. Mix ground almonds and flour together and add to the butter/egg mixture. Stir to combine.

Put a small dab of raspberry jam into each pastry case (about 1/4 tsp.) and fill case 3/4 full (about 1 tsp.) with the almond mixture (it will puff up so don't over fill).

Bake at 375 deg. F for 25-30 min. or until tarts are slightly golden on top. Allow to cool for 5-10 min. and remove tarts onto a rack to cool. Sprinkle with powdered sugar. Can be frozen for up to 2 months.

About the soaps - I used to have a booth at a Farmer's Market where I sold my soaps but it got a bit time-consuming and I only broke even. At least it paid for my hobby and I have all the molds, scents, etc. that I will ever need! One of my most popular soaps was cucumber/mint/avocado. Another fancy one was half lavender, half lime with poppyseeds that worked well as an exfoliant soap (I filled mold with lavender first, then when it was almost set, added the lime). I also made a mint/pumice soap for guys which was good for hand cleaning.

Nikki128 07-18-2006 02:07 PM

Thanks Penny ..... I really appreciate it. Those tarts sound great. I am thinking of going to starbucks to get a frapuccino as a treat. I only had a cesear salad today maybe 250-350 calories at most.

Nikki

penpal 07-18-2006 03:02 PM

Nikki - Enjoy every sip of your frapuccino! I had something similar for my lunch today as I will be eating out tonight. I made a vanilla protein (1 scoop Designer Whey) shake made with 1 cup of nonfat milk and a tablespoon of Ghiradelli chocolate mocha powder (30 calories) plus 1/2 cup of ice cubes. I also added 1 tbsp. of psyllium husk powder and 1 tbsp. of ground flax seed. This shake keeps me full for hours. It is so thick and delicious and only has 240 calories (19% fat, 41% carbs and 40% protein). I like to have this shake when I need an energy boost from the extra protein. :carrot:

Nikki128 07-18-2006 03:05 PM

that sounds yummy Penny ... I am sipping my frappuccino now. I ordered it light and it only has 180 calories not bad. Your shake sounds so yummy. If I had those ingredients in the house I would try it. Have a nice dinner and thanks for the support.

nikki

judydc 07-18-2006 05:08 PM

So I'm here to dissuade myself from having more of the chocolate that my boss brought back from Switzerland, and all the posts are about yummy food  No worries--I'm having mint tea so the craving is almost gone. I'm taking my brother and his GF to my favorite Ethiopean place for dinner, so I can't indulge in any more treats this afternoon.

Nikki--I'm sorry to hear about the major stressor. My folks split up when I was about your age. I was happy because it had been such a miserable marriage, and my mom just blossomed once she was able to move on. I was living in another state by that point, so my younger siblings got stuck with the day-to-day craziness. You can choose to be supportive but you have to take care of yourself, and not get pulled into the center of their drama. Easier said than done, I know...I'm thinking of you.

Penny--I like protien shakes, too! But I have to keep myself from throwing too much yummy stuff in...hey, people always say such mean things about English cuisine, but I had some great meals in London. Those fish and chips were slammin' and the Indian food raised the bar for me for what qualifies as 'good.'

Carol, I hope you make your mini-goal. I agree about the smaller plates. I bought more 9-inch ones for dinner plates, and it helps me think about portion control (versus just filling up the plate).

Hope everyone else is doing good. The mysterious nausea problem has finally gone away. It was really beginning to bug me! I worked out this morning, but it was hard without a little caffeine (going to the kitchen would have disturbed the houseguests ). I had a very light lunch--a small protein smoothie and for a snack, cottage cheese and blueberries. Plus a bit of chocolate. My boss brought a huge box of tiny chocolates, this is going to be challenge for several days....I plan to enjoy the Ethiopean meal without my customary bottle of beer, and I'll go lighter on the injera bread. Okay, now I'm getting hungry again:lol:

Thanks for the support Judy.....

Judy - I'm glad you're feeling better. Mmmm - that Ethiopian food is great! Good idea to have a smoothie for lunch - that way you can splurge a little bit when eating out. I think that's the problem with the Brits getting fatter - the food over there is way better these days!

Swiss chocolates are my downfall :o. My DH is Swiss and we lived in Zurich for a few years. In my opinion, Swiss chocolates are the best. Everyone there was slim, though, so maybe they get a lot of exercise hiking in the mountains! I always felt so fat there even though I was 'only' 150 lbs.

Penny thanks so much for all the ideas and recipes. They sound wonderful I love to try new things. I am going to try the lavender/lime poppy seed soap this weekend nice little added gift for my daughters birthday. I like to add soaps to the package instead of a bow. Thanks again! Feel free to share anytime. I also over eat when stressed.
Nikki I think having a nice calm talk with your mom might be in order. Telling her you understand her feelings but your also dealing with this matter too. Tell her she may need a support group or someone else to talk to but that you love both of them and can't be caught in the middle. She then should respect your truthfullness and realize you are right. I went through this many years ago and its tough. Not easy for anyone. Good luck and feel free to vent this group is so understanding and none of us would mind. Don't let the stress go against your set goals. Sounds like your handling that part pretty good. Good for you having a treat within your limits. I did pretty good yesterday but had chinese for dinner garlic chicken, left most of the rice behind and no cookie or fried noodles. I have been making better choices lately.
Judy that seafood sounded great. I'm one of those split kids too! Except my parents never divorced just split for good. I think that was worse as my mom never moved on. She was always in hopes he'd come back it was tough to see her stay alone forever. Better to make changes I think. For some folks in the long run it works out better. Many people stay stuck in a bad rut forever and that doesn't help either.
Well off to work girls. I worked til 7:15 last night too many hours. But will take a little time off this afternoon to get my daughters car in for a new stereo system a surprise from her future hubby. He gave me the car and money while they went on vacation to get it done. So I maybe forced to shop while waiting today. Some new clothes yah! I think maybe that would be a good treat for me. Have a good day I am going to try my best for a healthy eating day.
Can anyone tell me how to set the ticker things???????? I think seeing the numbers makes the motivation stay high. Knowing changes are needed to get it down! Thanks.

Hi Cacmsc-

There is really no talking to her. I told her yesterday I don't want to hear it and she was much better last night. I just can't be in the middle. I had to skip my workout today. My legs are aching bad.
Have fun buying new clothes I love shoppng when the scale is down.

catch you later
Nikki

Carol - To make a ticker, just click on anyone's weight tracker and it will take you to the set-up page. I use the one here at 3FC and some people use Ticker Factory. I hope your daughter likes the soap.

Nikki - I hope your legs feel better soon.

Ugh, I have this tedious project that I've been dragging my heels on for weeks, but now I have to deal with it. It's mostly typing up my intervew notes from several phone calls. The interviews were back in May, and I can barely read my own scrawly writing. It's hard to believe that I ever got good grades in Penmanship :( .

Dinner was good. My tummy's still a bit rumbly, so I didn't go overboard, and I was too full for dessert later. My brother doesn't think the day is over until he's had a big bowl of ice cream. We're going to see a play at the Kennedy Center tonight, so I ate my morning snack (apple and string cheese) fairly late, and I'll have lunch and an afternoon snack late, too, and maybe have some soup or something just before heading over to Curves and then the theater.

Carol, the tickers are motivating, it feels great to have to go in and make the numbers smaller! I took mine off for the time being, 'cuz it was too frustrating for me that there wasn't any movement. I'll put it back up in a few weeks, when I should be in a better frame of mind after seeing friends and family in California.

Nikki, are you a bath person? When I'm achy, I love nothing better than soaking in a hot tub with some fragrant bath salts, massaging moisturizer into my legs and bundling off to bed...it's good for the stress, too!

Judy another trip this one sounds like pleasure good for you. I am thinking of going to Florida in November for a week to see a friend. We'll see when time gets closer. Todays eating was a bit crazy. Still stayed within my limit but not such good choices. Just a crazy day all the way around. But I counted things up and still around my goal for cals. Drank lots of water its so muggy tonight. Soon it will cool off a bit. Yah! I need to learn how to cut and paste THEN I can do my ticker. Sounds like a good motivator for me. Well I will do the scale in the a.m. as the girls are doing a pot luck lunch for my b day. I am not working on friday they thought being I bring lunch everyday they better tell me ahead of time. Its nice of them to think of me. But who knows what I might eat. So I will have to adjust my other meals. Well have a good one. Nikki sounds like mom got the message loud and clear. You relax a bit curl up with a good book maybe. The hot bath sounded good too.

Morning all well no change on the scale but stable with my loss from 7/17 so I am glad about that. But will I make my .5 by friday. Oh its really iffy! But at any rate I have lost the 4.5lbs since 6/26. So no complaints here. This current wt. is where I was at my lowest in awhile according to my journal 5/2. Then I slipped up and slacked off. So it feels good to be at this pt. Now lets see after 7/21 my next goal will be 3lbs. by 8/11. That would put me at a low. Oh now I will have to really work at this. I tend to lose slower than some but the doctor told me awhile back thats the better way lose slow keep it off. I think using the scale as much as it can be tough on us does keep me in line better. So if I slack off with using it smack me one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Have a great day girls. Oh don't ever take vitamin B Complex before going to be it provides an energy boost it took me 4 hrs. to fall asleep. Now I took it this a.m. in hopes it helps keep me moving for the day. UH!

stable is good cac.... You should feel real good about that.

I was looking in the mirror today and even though I am stil up a pound I feel like my body has toned itself and reshaped so I guess that is good. I am so frustrated I bought a bunch of clothes in June I thought would last me all summer. Now, when I try on the tops they are just to big they make my waistlook like it is the same porportion as my hips which it is not. These tops are mediums and smalls. It is getting very frustrating because now I feel frumpy in my clothes instead of sexy and the few tops I have that may look ok I feel like they are to tight so I won't wear them. Does anyone else do this? by the time I think ok I can wear that top , shorts <fill in theblank> it is already to big. I have a major fear of wearing clothes that are to tight because I hate to have to look at people who wear clothes 2 sizes to small and think they look good. This is so irrational I feel like I need to go buy new clothes but don't have the money right now and quite possibly I look good in the ones I have but its my distrortion that is the problem.

On a different note yesterday I had a nice experience. I went to the store to buy my bf a present. This man was walking behind me < atotal hottie he was> so he rushed to open the door for me and when I said "thanks" he says if you wait I will open the other door for you too. Now I was blushing and giggling like a freak lol I forgot what it is like to get attention from strangers. Shh don't tell my boyfriend but I am loving the looks and flirting.

I realize having typed the last part that the 2 comments are completely contrary lol. One says I don;t think I look good the other says hey I'm getting attention I havent got in years.

I must be crazy!!!

Nikki
