Marie -
Thanks for the encouragement. I am oing to try to get close to 4 miles today. Even if I get to 3.5 I will be happy. its 11 am and so far so good I had yogurt for breakfast and walked 1.5 miles already. I can do 2 - 3 more easy before I go to bed. My problem is noth my ankles are bad so when they start hurting it gets hard to walk anymore. It sounds like you have a nice day planned. I hope you enjoy it. I will post again tonight. Nikki |
Nikki--don't let the pace of your weight loss get you down! I bet your body has adjusted to when you were being so tough, and now that you've relaxed a little, it's compensating for your changed metabolism with one of those dreaded plateaus. If increasing your walking is difficult, maybe you can bike or do strength training while you build up the muscles stabilizing your ankles. Hang in there, we're all pulling for you.
Marie, I'm sorry that you didn't like Turbo-Jam. I was looking forward to hearing about you "getting your freak on" with the hip youngsters, but do get your $$$ back if it's not your speed! I do the routine a few times a week, and I can definitely feel the difference it's making in my stomach muscles. Penpal--There's a Curves right by my office, so it's super-convenient for me to go. Because I do other strength training workouts (videos) at least once a week, I can see where the unchanging Curves routine has its limitations, but it's more than I would get if I went on my own to a regular gym and didn't invest in a trainer. The best thing about Curves is that it set up a habit and an expectation around working out, yaay!!! Carol, it's great that you spend so much time in the great outdoors! That's all a bit foreign to me, I'm a true urban girl who never learned to enjoy roughing it. But I love gardens, walking, and just being outside. Kayaking wouldn't be my speed, though, I can't even swim--although I float really well:devil: . I've been doing well, working out every day and eating on program. I did the yoga tape again this morning. I'm still too stiff to so some of the poses, but I still enjoyed trying. Spent yesterday afternoon at an annual concert of Louisiana music at Wolf Trap. I packed lots of water and yummy healthy snacks and managed to avoid buy anything from the concession stands. The weather was perfect! It was great to hear live music. When I lived in Chicago and NYC, I went to free outdoor concerts all the time. Hope everyone has a great day. judy |
Hi all! I just can't help but love all of the support you give eacother on this thread! I love it! Well my name is Ashley and I am currently working for my cousin Chalene Johnson! We are looking for people who would be willing to share any before and after pics to show-off the results people can get from Turbo-ing!!! If anyone may be interested..email me at: [email protected]
thanks!! Keep up the good work everyone! |
cacmsc - I changed my lifestyle for health reasons two years ago when I was 55 - just goes to show, it's never too late. I also don't "feel" 57, I feel much younger, even when my body doesn't cooperate sometimes!
Nikki - Sorry to hear you are going through a frustrating plateau - I know how it feels . My feet hurt all the time too - sometimes I feel like telling them to SHUT UP and let me do the stuff I need to do. I'm too busy to have sore feet! Today I hauled a big table and 16 chairs out of our shed for a lunch/picnic I'm having with some girlfriends tomorrow and all the time the feet were acting up. I knew I had to get it done somehow, so I ignored it as much as possible. It gets frustrating though. It's great that you manage to do so much exercise despite the pain. We are tough women!! Marie - I actually don't mind doing the yard work - I don't see it as excise, but I sure worked up a sweat the other day! I hope you get your money back for Turbojam. I've never had much luck with exercise videos - I find them very boring. Did you like the movie "The Break Up". It had pretty good reviews. We went to see "Over the Hedge" yesterday - how lame is that! It was quite funny actually and one of the few movies I've enjoyed lately. I don't like action movies, gory movies, horror movies, or explicit movies so that doesn't leave much. Judy - Yes, I agree the best thing about Curves is the routine. It's not the greatest workout in the world - but it's what I'm prepared to do (and able to do at the moment). I also like socializing with my workout buddies there. I'm interested in yoga, I've read some good things about it and always wanted to give it a try, but I thought I wouldn't be flexible enough. Well, I'm all alone today on our 37th anniversary - boohoo! :(. DH has gone down to K-Falls to help DS move his stuff back. It's his last day in college tomorrow and he is so excited about coming home and starting his job. I'm so glad he found something close to home. He's got his own apartment lined up though, which I can understand. I had a good day gardening and getting ready for a picnic lunch with my girlfriends tomorrow. It's great that all the flowers are out right now (we have lots of peonies and they're gorgeous this year). It's supposed to be sunny and 75 deg. tomorrow :crossed:. We were going to have our picnic down by the river, but it's really soggy after all the rain we've had lately. I got a gift certificate to Backyard Birdshop for our anniversary :gift: and I bought a hummingbird feeder to stick on the kitchen window. It only took about two minutes for our hummers to find it! They are so cute and fearless. I had semi-junk for my anniversary dinner - a calzone and a glass of wine but I enjoyed it and didn't go over my calories for the day by much. |
Nikki listen don't be so hard on yourself. You have done well and your body sounds like it is adjusting to the loss you have had. Now its time to shake things in your routine up a little bit. Increase your fiber ensuring your getting enough 25 - 30 grams a day. Also increase the veggies and protien watch the carbs, keep up your walking. 3 miles a day is good concentrate on that not pushing to hard to fast it sometimes will end in injuries. Good luck and journal your intakes. Do you calorie count? I do and try to stay with in my 1400-1500 cals a day. This seems to help me.
Marie way to go with the day off and rollerblading. Judy your doing great keep it up results will follow.I haven't tried yoga but heard good things. I am going to do gardening for my exercise tonight. The veggies need some assistance and the flower beds as well. A client gave me some extra plants yesterday that she had grown. So I will put them in also. Yesterday I was much more on plan with my food intake. It was a rough day at work after having only 2 days in the office last week. I returned to much that needed to be done and appointments to go to.I have another training this afternoon as well. I managed to got go to food when I was stressed. That is a biggie. I found some small wraps garlic and herb with only 50 cals. 3 fibers, 4 protein. Their good I put a little low cal 20 per tbl. horseradish sauce, lean roast beef, greens, red roasted peppers it was so good. Then had strawberries whole plain, 1 low cal yogurt for lunch. Snack was some funky pumpkin seed, healthy cracker and some dill hummus. My intake for the total day was-1300! Not so bad. I try not to go under that ever as then we start to burn away our muscle instead of fat I am told. Penny sounds like the picnic will be fun. Happy Anniversary! I also love birds and have some hummingbirds around. They scared me one day when I was gardening near their feeder. They zoomed down by my head I thought I was being attacked by bee's. Oh! Having health issues isn't any fun. My hubby is in that position and its hard. Its also hard to see changes happening and have no control over them. The conference I went helped me with trying to be more patient and understanding of his grief of losses to his ability to walk normally. Sometimes I feel gulity that I am so much more healthier than him. But at least it allows me to be of assistance when needed. Have a good day girls and thanks for letting me vent. I try not to do it to often but sometimes its good to let it out. |
hi all -
Thanks for the support. Yesterday I walked 4 miles and drank 6 bottles of water. I also had a yogurt, some low fat crackers with laughing cow cheese, a healthy choice meal, a slice of pizza and some frozen grapes. Today I got on the scale and I am back down to 158.8 which is what I was for my big date. I am hoping to break 158 by friday. I know i can do this is I try hard. Pen- have fun on your picnic it sounds like a great time. cac- I have trouble calorie counting because alot of things I dont know the calorie count. However, when I was doing it 1200 calories was alot for me in a day I rarely go over that. I tried uping protein and thats when I started gaining. I am going to go back to what was working for me. Nikki |
Hi Everyone, The weather is finally lovely here! It's in the mid 80's today witha slight breeze. My granddaughter (aged 3) spent the night and she and I went to the park and went for a walk this morning. My husband will stop and pick up our grandson on his way home from work and we will take him to baseball practice tonight and mcKenzie and I will take another walk. So, I should get my exercise in! Eating wise....not too bad...althought I think I have gained a pound. I don't think a slight varation in weight is unusual, and is to be expected. I just want to watch it and make sure it doesn't go over that!
PenPal, I had shin splints recentally too! Very painful and put and end to my walking for exercise for a couple of weeks. I spoke to our rehab Dr. at work and he showed me some stretching exercises to do that really worked. Just calf stretches that I had neglected to do! Really makes a difference! And HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!!!! Sorry you have to spend it alone, but you can celebrate when hubby gets home! Mine is coming up in August! Our 40th!!! Where do the years go? Marie, Your vacation sounds fun and well deserved! Hope you enjoy every second! I don't think I could do the Turbo Jam either. Looks like there is some kicking involved, righ? I can't kick, my back would be right out! I really liked the Tye_Bo tapes but couldn't do them! Now I just walk and lift weights. Judy, I still haven't started doing my Yoga tape but i'm looking forward to it. Flexability is easly lost and something I need to work on. It does take time and we may not get it all back, but it's worth the effort to try. Niki, Just do what works for you. people are very different, that's why there are so many different diets and exercise plans out there. I find that if I eat too few calories I stop losing. My mytabolism slows down. Take care all, Freda |
Aieee, what a day. Must be that 666 thing...an overstressed co-worker had a bit of a meltdown, so I've been walking around on pins and needles trying not too make too much or too little of it. Everyone at my job is lovely, I've rarely seen anything unprofessional or wacked out here. So I can't complain, since so many people struggle all the time with office politics or with people who just aren't right.
I've been eating on program--just had a good snack of sliced carrots with guacamole, yum-yum! I did a short form of Marie's favorite workout  at home this morning, and had my first long walk in months on my way to work, 55 minutes. The weather's a little cooler than usual for this time of year, so I wasn't too terribly sweaty at the end of it. This is what I was supposed to be doing 2-3 time a week since early April, so it feels good to finally add this to my schedule. I don't know how close I'll be to my June 8 goal, but my clothes fit better so I know that something's happening. Penpal, how cool to have hummingbirds in your yard! I first saw them when I visited California was I was a child, and I couldn't get over how unreal they looked hovering in the air like bees. They also had lizards and mountains in CA, which made me very envious of my cousins. Carol, I think you made great choices on a very stressful day. I certainly wanted to ditch my brown-bag lunch today and treat myself, but I went out for a stroll instead. It takes a while to learn new patterns, doesn't it? Nikki--go, go, go:carrot: I totally agree with Freda, no one thing works for everybody, you have to go for what gets results and still feels healthy for you. I like coming to this site because it reminds me that I always have options and tweaks, and that I can find a way to get from here to there. Freda, I have the Gaiam/Living Arts "Yoga for Weight Loss" tape. I can't do all the poses, but I still enjoy trying. I'm bad about stretching after doing cardio on my own, but the yoga feels like a whole stretching routine. My mom says she's interested in 'chair yoga,' so I'm looking at a tape to send her. Keep up the great work, everybody! judy |
Hi Everyone. I hope your day was good. Mine was good even though I was at work.
Yesterday was great. We weren't able to see the movie because there were no matinee showings, but we rollerbladed for 8 miles (about 1 mile too far - I was dragging), did some grocery shopping, and then had a picnic with Subway. It was great. I was tired the rest of the day, though. And we pulled the winter cover off the pool and got it ready for the year. It still looks strange to me since DH hasn't put up the diving board. But there's progress. Hopefully the solar heater will heat the water up by the weekend. It was 75 degrees yesterday afternoon. I like it about 85 but would swim at 82. So we're getting there. I got a few more WATP DVD's yesterday. One is a 1 mile Yoga walk. Has a warm-up 1 mile walk and then about a 15 minute yoga stretch. So I did that this evening. It was pretty good. I'd already done 3 miles before work. So I guess I'm exrecised out for the day. Tomrrow DH and I are going rollerblading after work. So that will be cool. Food is doing good. I looked on my database and the average calories for the month of May was exactly 1400. So I'm right on target. Nikki, good for you getting on track. I knew you could do it!!! I totally agre with going back to what works for you individually. I've tried all kinds of diets and the only one that I succeed at is counting calories - logging all of it into my database. I can't cheat if I see it in black and white. For others, that would be dreadful. It's an individual thing. Judy, I'm very impressed with your Jamming. :carrot: Me, I'm a walker and starting to become a rollerblader again. I hadn't done it in 3 years so I was a bit scared for the first few minutes. Carol, good for you staying on track with a stressful day. I understand being out of the office - the work doesn't take a "vacation" and start to pile up. Luckily for me, my summer vacation will start in a month and I'll probably take 4 weeks off. Freda, I'm glad your weather has improved. So has ours, enough to open the pool. I really thought summer had skipped us this year. Sounds like you had a wonderful time with your DGD. Penpal, :smug: :smug: Congrats on anniversary. That's quite a milestone - 37 years. Even though DH was helping your DS, it's still pretty exciting. I definitely want to see Over the Hedge. But this weekend I'm taking my DH to "Cars". He's a car addict and Nascar fan so I thought we'd go. So I guess the Break-up is on the back burner for now. Well, I will chat with you all later. Have a great night (or morning if I'm the last poster of the night). Marie |
Nikki thats the nice thing about journaling you can look back to see what you were doing at that time. Exercise wise and intake. Glad your on a roll again sometimes sharing ideas with others gets us motivated or rethinking of the best way to do things that work for us. Dieting is so individualized things work differently for different folks. Good luck sounds like your doing fine. Freda must be we are on the wave I had my 4 yr. old grandson overnight his dad is working out of town for a few weeks. So we are sharing him with the other gram. We have him the most but its no problem. My daughter works nights at the paper. Those little ones are exercise by themselves. Judy I wish I worked in your place wacked out isn't the word for some of what goes on. Keep up your good work and goals will be met. I have been doing better with my eating but did have a couple of chicken wings! I am in hopes my gardening work helped work them off. Every once in awhile I need to give in a little at least I felt in control and didn't over do. Marie keep up the good work. I only wish I had vacation time but of course I can look back at the Hawaii pictures and be grateful for the time I had. That was super! I have had such a busy work week and 3 hrs. of training yesterday to keep up with upcoming paperwork changes for the gov't. Oh! I have friday off and if I don't work late or take something home its not good for me to be off one more day. I might just have to take something home for my own benefit no pay.
|
Marie - Rollerbladding 8 miles WOW! I always wanted to learn to roller blade. Now with 2 bum ankles I'm not sure I could.
cac- You sound busy that is great. When I'm busy sometimes I forget to eat ! Judy- A 55 minute walk you go girl!!!! Freda - keeping up with the baby has got to have you exercising more. As for me I walked 3.5 miles yesterday and drank 6 water bottles again. I also ate real good. Today I am still in the 158's . My aim is 156 or 157 by Friday I will take either. I plan to walk another 3.5 - 4 miles today and stick with the water and eating. catch you all later Nikki |
Ahh I did not make my 5 lb goal... I think about losing weight everyday but I never lose any :( I am going to Europe in 3 weeks and I know it might bedifficult as I will be there 6 weeks, to work out... so i guess that may mean I might have to put my weight loss on hold again :( Idont want to but I need to knwo some creative ways to get my body moving while Im out the country
|
Intrigued- I am sorry you did not meet your goal. I would sugest going on walks and hikes through Europe as exercise. Where exactly are you headed?
Nikki |
Wow, Intrigued, a trip to Europe, how fun! I'm sorry you didn't reach your goal, but as someone's signature says, "It's only a failure if you don't get up again," so don't let it keep you down. I have friends who go on bike trips and walking tours, so they're more active than they would be if they were at home.
|
Just checking in quickly to say hi to everyone. I've been real busy the last couple of days helping DS move into his apartment. Now he can do his OWN laundry! With all this upheaval it's hard to stay on track with my eating, journaling, water, etc. Tomorrow things should calm down a bit and I'm determined to get back on track. It's great that our DS's place is quite nearby, so we'll see more of him. It's lucky he found a good job around here in Engineering as they are few and far between these days.
|
Hi everyone, sounds like Nikki is back on track. :carrot: Way to go on the walking and the water. I'd cross my finger for the 156/7 on Friday but then I couldn't type. :dizzy:
Judy, I agree with your advice. Walk, walk, walk while on vacation. That's what I plan to do. I'm going to bring my rollerblades too, but walking is my main staple of exercise. Intrigued, sorry about the missed goal. Trust me, when you're really ready to lose those 5 pounds, nothing will stop you. So for now, fight not gaining and that's progress itself. Penpal, I know that when my DS graduates next year, he'll be moving away. No software engineering jobs in Klamath Falls. Ha, there's barely any jobs here. :D So you're lucky. Your DS moved away for a few years and is coming back. Mine stayed for college, then will leave. Next year, you'll see my sad face. Carol, enjoy your son's visit. I bet you'll have a great time. I definitely think gardening is hard work. My butt muscles always hurt after weeding and the such. Work was good today. I've been working on a new website and I got the pages to search the database and return only certain records. I was quite happy. It's a lot more complex dynamic site then I've done in the past, so this was way too cool. My brain was fired by the end of the day, but I'm learning. And it worked! :carrot: After work DH and I went rollerblading again (definitely hard on the ankles, Nikki). We went 5 miles and 2.5 of it was into a 20 mph wind. Yikes, what a workout. DH is military and is told to exercise and 5 hours can be on work time. So we met after I got off and he did his PT (physical training). It was nice to see him midweek. As we're rolling along I told him I'd gotten up early and exercised already in the morning. He thought I was nuts. I'd say I'm obsessed. I've got my goals...:D Well, time for my evening snack. Talk to you all later. Marie |
Marie - Way to go on your roller blading !! That is great that you can do it with your hubby. This weekend I am going to get my boyfriend to go on a walk both nights.
Penpal- Great news that your DS can stay close. As for me. I am pretty sure I will see 156 tomorrow. If I do that is the lightest I have been in 5 years. I walked 3 miles yesterday and plan to do 3 today and 3 tomorrow which will put me over the week goal. I'd rather put my goal lower and exceed it then make a high goal and not make it. Have a healthy one Nikki |
Hey, there--
Nikki, we will celebrate your big milestone! This morning's weight is the same as last week, so I'm still 3 pounds higher than my goal for today. On the other hand, I'm five pounds lighter than I was three weeks ago, so I'm not complaining:D . I'll set another goal this weekend. I have three days of stressful meetings next week, and travel near the end of the month, so I might focus on behavioral goals as opposed to pounds. I've been peeking at the Success threads lately, and that's keeping my spirits up despite the slow progress. Marie, I'm so impressed that you rollerblade! It looks like so much fun. I'm glad to hear that work is going well. I would think that being in IT would be pretty stressful. Penpal, won't you miss doing your son's laundry? Intrigued--I had another thought. I travel a lot, and since I enjoy doing video workouts, I'm thinking of splurging on a mini-DVD player so I will have absolutely no excuses! Carol, a stray chicken wing never hurt anybody, although the chicken involved might dispute that opinion. Bye--judy |
Judy- i can't wait to celebrate it. Here is hoping for 156 tomorrow my fingers are crossed. being 5 lbs lighter is always good. If you wanted to set a goal you could join Marie and I in our goal for July 17th. Our goal is 10 lbs each but you could set your own goal for that date.
Nikki |

I hope everyone has a good day. Tomorrow's my weigh in day so I hope I haven't gained with all that's been going on this last week. |

I got an idea the other day... I have a workout mix on my ipod so if I do movements and exercises I've learned in videos for 30 mins a day maybe that'll help
And Im not gonna give up... tomorrow I'm going to work out and make my last 2 weeks here count |
Intrigued the girls have given you some good ideas enjoy your trip to Europe. Sounds lovely! I guess just keep moving walking and using the IPOD. Have fun and just try not to gain stay stable.
Yesterday the kids came home and of course their favorite when visiting is chicken wings. So my intake last night wasn't great. But on the other hand I ate a healthy breakfast and lunch yesterday. I made a nice spinach salad. We didn't have pizza with the wings but a salad I made so it could of been worse I guess. I did purchase some healthy things to take camping. Whole wheat rolls, veggies and of course some goodies. But I will be doing a lot of walking, hiking and kayaking. We have some rain to deal with I wish we didn't but oh well its mother nature. Nikki I am waiting to ck my wt. due to my couple of ooopies! I think I am okay though but just couldn't bring that white square out today. Maybe monday morning would be better for me. Hope your all doing well. Marie I am so glad your hubby is enjoying that roller blading. I haven't ever done it but would like to try. There is a place in the city to rent them etc. I might have to ck it out. I also think my little sister of 40 yrs. old has a pair which might fit me. I will ck it out and maybe borrow them to see if I like it. Not too many places right here for me to go though only in the city at a local park by the lake. Its a pretty spot would be kind of fun to explore this I think. Judy keep up your good work it will pay off. I am going to try to be good this weekend. When I have something special a goodie I will have only 1/2 of what everyone else is having. That will be my attempt to behave. This way I will have some but not a lot cause if I don't have an idea on how to deal with the goodies I will blow it for sure! I am having a good time with the kids home. I have to becareful though with the goodies around and the ice cream shoppe. Having things in the house I normally wouldn't have. So I will come up with a plan to deal with it all. Part of that will be giving them a treat and trying to walk away to do something else til its out of sight. I like to have things they enjoy while their home. I know making homemade macorni and cheese is a must. I will use a smaller serving for me of course but its something they love. Take care and i will try my best to monitor my intakes and to becareful........................ Give me will power!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
cac- enjoy the kids being home and just try to maintain.
Intrigued- your ipod could be a great acessory to working out. I really need to get me one of them for my walks. I may have to pull out my old cd walkman. I have not weighed yet I want to wait until I'm up a bit. I'll be back later Nikki |
Ok..... here are the results of this weeks weigh in. I got onthe scale at 8:00 AM and I weighed 157.6 the same I weighed yesterday. I am very excited next week I will the lightest I have been in 5 years.
I have to really work at being good this weekend. I am craving yummy food and going out to my boyfriends this afternoon. I fgure if I get a salad tonight and splurge on Mexican tomorrow I should still be ok since we don't eat breakfast we just get a big lunch and light dinner on Saturday. Nikki |
Hi everyone,
I'd say it's a lovely morning but the %$#$%# scale wasn't kind. In one week I lost .5 pounds. Whoopee. :( I didn't see that coming. I'm sure it is part of the monthly cycle but it still bugs me. I'm trying hard to be rational, but I was expecting a 2 pound loss. I'll get over it but I think I'll weigh on Tuesdays again so I'm not as shocked after one week. Sort of interesting, I averaged 1417 cals for the week, walked 27 miles and rollerbladed 12.6 miles. One would think that would get more results, but hey, my body is determined to be fat. I'm just as determined not to be. So the battle is on. Nikki, I guess you and I are doing the same. Sort of funny. Next week we'll see the big woosh and it'll be heaven. So we'll keep at it, right??? Yesterday after work, I took the two huskies, the stroller with DGS and my ipod out for a walk. I looked like a crazy person, but I enjoyed the music, so definitely get your walkman out. The music makes the pace a little quicker. Good luck, Carol. The camping sounds so tempting calorie wise. I am so bad on vacations and special events. That's my big resolution when I go to MN in July. No getting off track. I wish I'd been this determined a year ago - I'd be at goal by now (maybe). Either way, we're getting there. Judy, my job isn't too stressful, but it's being redefined this coming week at the board meeting. Good thing and bad thing. Big raise (I'm way underpaid) but mover the next 3 years my contract is being increased 20 days a year. Right now I'm 200, starting July 1st, it will be 220, then the next year 240, then year round (260) the following year. I'm not sure I like the idea, but a big raise goes with each increase. Give and take, I guess. Good luck with the stressful days coming this next week. Doesn't sound like fun. Intrigued. Definitely bring that ipod and move. That's the best thing you can do. Penpal, hope your weighin goes a little better than mine. Good luck. Well, today is rollerblade day. I got my new aerobic shoes from onlineshoes.com (Avia A650's) and I have them on without the orthotics. The left shoes is very comfy but the right is a little off in the heel, but not too off. Definitely the best pair I've tried so far. So I'll probably keep them. Talk to you all later. Marie |
Marie - Hang in there girl. 1/2 lb is better then nothing. I lost these 2 this week so I am pretty happy. My next big number wil be getting to 155. I guess my last post did not reflect that I lost 2 lbs this week. I talked numbers not pounds opps. Anyway I got to 157 woohoo.
Nikki |
I'm going to work out today... I'm going to do Turbo Jam in a few minutes and I find that when I come here daily I'm more motivated so I'm going to have to make a daily trip here...
|
Just a quick hello to the whole gang, wishing you all fun and healthy weekends. I had a lovely walk this morning, but I forgot to stretch, just came in and sat at my computer so now I'm a bit sore:( Guess i'll remember next time!
Tomorrow my building complex is having a yard sale for charity, so when I get home tonight I'll see what I can unload. I hope we get lots of people this time. We did this last fall and I sold some things but we didn't get much of a crowd. This time they've done more publicity, so we'll see. My July 17th goal will be to be to get down to 229. I'll figure out how to do that over the weekend. As Marie says, we're getting there.... judy |
Sounds like everyone is pretty much on track. You guys are great motivators!
I weighed in today and I'm up a pound :(. First time I've gained in a while. It's probably because I haven't been able to exercise for over a week because of the stupid shin splints. It's getting a bit better but I'm still hobbling around and sometimes it's quite painful even driving (pushing brake and accelerator). As I mentioned, it's been hectic around here helping our son move into his apartment and I've been eating off plan, so it's a wonder I didn't gain more :o. I'm going to try to start working out again next week and see how it goes. Have a great weekend everybody! :) |
Morning everyone,
So much for my "day off" from exercising. I was only going o go rollerblading. Just one exercise. But then DS's GF asked if I wanted to go for a walk with DGS and her. So off we went. Then she asked what the temp of the pool was up to. So I checked that. 85 degree!!! Wow, I didn't expect that, so we took DGS in the pool for the first time. He's now almost 4 months old and he kicked his little legs like crazy, was cooing and grinning. He definitely like it. Anyway, it ended up being a busy day. That's definitely okay, I had fun. Today I'm actually going to swim in the pool. And our Durango is back from the body shop - all the dents the dingbat womal caused are gone. So we can take the doggies to the other side of the mountain and go hiking. It should be a great day. A friend says I'm starving myself at 1400 calories. I don't agree with her - but what do you all think? :?: It's sort of bugging me. It's not like I'm young spring chicken with a great metabolisim. Penpal, good luck on re-starting the workouts. Just be very careful not to aggravate the shin splints. You sure don't want to have pain all summer long. It's too pretty out for that. Judy, I hope your complex has a good turn out. What a great idea to do it collectively for charity. I once had a yard sale and it was a disaster. I made $60 after two whole days. Whoopee. I never did that again. Much simpler to give everything to Goodwill and be on my merry way.;) Intrigued, I definitely feel more accountability when I visit daily. For a while I was on 4 threads and trying to do the journaling. It was too overwhelming and ime consuming. Now I just visit here, write to my favorite chickies and go on with other things. I don't make it a long exerperience, just a good one. Nikki, way to go on the 2 pounds. I'm green with envy :p . Actually, I know when I look over the years of dieting journals in my diet software that I have periods in the month that I don't lose. About 2 weeks after TOM, I don't lose - that happens to be close to yesterday. So I will see better results next week. I will weigh on Tuesday and Friday. I don't want the shock of only a .5 pound after 7 days again. If I hadn't lost anything on Tuesday, I wouldn't have given the scale my middle finger. BTW, I used to kick the scale when it was mean. Now I'm just juvenile and give it a bad gesture. :D Carol and Freda, I hope your having a fabulous weekend. Marie |
Marie - Awww your little grandson sounds so cute - I bet he loves the pool! 85 deg. is nice and warm. Glad you got your Durango back - what a hassle when your car is in the shop! Your doggies will be happy to go hiking now. I don't think you're 'starving' yourself at 1400 calories. From what I've read, anything below 1200 is a bit too low and can mess up your metabolism. I'm eating about 1600 right now but I'm losing very slowly. I also don't do any where near the exercise you do and that makes a big difference. If you are happy on 1400 and not getting too hungry - then go with what works for you.
Judy - I hope you did well with your yard sale. Sometimes you get a better turnout with a community-wide sale. Ingrigued - I hope you enjoyed the Turbo Jam :carrot: Nikki - I really envy you too losing 2 lbs.! You are a real inspiration. I'm hoping to start losing again soon when I get back into my regular exercise routine. It's funny what Marie said about kicking the scale when it won't go down! I thought I was the only one who does that! I've actually been known to pick it up and drop it to make the darned thing change :goodscale: |
Penpal, :D  :D definitely I get mad at it. Like it's its fault I'm fat. :)
The hike was great except Kody ran off. Whe we got back to the Durango - there he was waiting. He looked like an angel but I was so mad at him for running off. He's really a donkey in doggie fur. Tomorrow if he gets to go, he'll be on a leash. Then we dared to go to walmart since I'd uploaded pictures of DGS to their photo center, so I wanted to pick them up. They're of him in the pool yesterday. I decided not to print them on my printer - too many of them. So now it's lunch time. I htink I'm going to have a big salad. I love those on summer days. I also have to week whack this weekend. :( I hate yard work. But someone needs to help my DH and we know it's not going to be my kids. Talk to you later. Mare |
Penpal, I'm feeling your pain with the shin splints! I agree with Marie--ice 'em, take aspirin, and do stuff that will make the tendons and muscles in your shins , calves and ankles stronger and more flexible--but take the time to let your shins heal. I bet you'd rather miss two weeks of workouts than have this problem all summer!
Marie, what a great weekend you're having--walking, rollerblading and swimming--not to mention the yardwork. I only worked out twice, but now I feel like a slacker:smug: Nikki, Nikki, Nikki--two more pounds, woo-hoo!!! I got to nudge my ticker down another hard-won pound today. Intrigued--It definitely helps me to try to check in with this thread every day. I spend so much time thinking about my weight-loss journey, but mostly it's an internal dialogue, I feel a little crazy if I don't have a structured way to share my thoughts with folks like you. I'm finally going back to doing meditation and hypnosis, and that's helping me stay upbeat. Okay, I'm procrastinating. I brought a ton of office work home, but I haven't cracked a single file....see you tomorrow! judy |
Judy - Way to go !
|
Marie - Our neighbor had a huge husky that loved to escape and run up the hill on our property. If I didn't know him, I would have thought he was a giant wolf! That dog was huge - but totally soppy and harmless. He had a bad hip so he kind of galloped and wobbled at the same time but he was always happy with a big smile!
Judy - Thanks for the advice about the shin splints. I've been able to do some yard work this weekend, so I'm going to start back at Curves tomorrow. I'll take it a bit easy on the leg machines for a while. What a bummer that you have to bring work home. I work from home, so I have to be careful not to go too near my office on my time off or else I'd find stuff that needs doing and I'd be stuck in there all weekend! |
Nikki congrats on the scale. I have been known to try to get off it then back on etc. Move it to another spot on the floor to make sure its even and right. Funny aren't we all. Sometimes it helps then other times not!
Marie isn't it fun taking the little ones in the pool. I love seeing them get introduced to a life time of fun and exercise. Its so good for them. Then they take nice long naps. Enjoy that baby they all growup to fast. Judy hope you did well at your sale. We have one on saturday this week. Hope the weather is better for it. Sounds like your doing well keep it up. Nikki your right just maintaining with the kids visit maybe a smart move. We are eating more stuff. I did manage to get in a long walk this weekend over rocks along the shoreline. The weather was a bit rainy but then straightened out just chiller than our normal at this time of year. Winter jackets on at some points all sitting around a warm campfire roasting hot dogs and marshmallows. It was fun and brought back many memories of the past when my son was little. Love those kids! Today I have to go off to work I wish I had the time to spend home helping them build Aunt Sandy's room. I will pitch in later on though. They will be off today purchasing stuff. My hubby will be the lucky one to get more time with them. Oh well thats okay he deserves it as well. We are planning a trip to have dinner at the casino and gamble a bit one day. We will pick a rainy one maybe or later in the evening. They are only here til the 24th. Somethings we will do afterwards like painting, rugs, flooring. Thats stuff I can take care of myself. I need his expert advice and skills for the rest of the project. Remodeling is always fun! Dusty etc!!!!!!!!!! Penny I FEEL YOUR SHIN SPLINTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yuk! I have had them also. Lately my hips get sore. Maybe its old age I hope not. The kids always remark on what great shape I am in. Oh better keep my aches and pains to myself. Wouldn't want them to think I AM aging. Not me! No way!!!!!!!!!!!! I will try something to make myself better exercise is one of them. I hope to go walking this week sometime. Maybe a short walk today after a picnic. The state group home has a big picnic today. I am going to try to be good. No roll maybe a hamburger, salads etc. I will try my best to limit my intake. Marie I think 1400 cals is great. If you watch what you eat that can be a lot of good healthy foods. I range between 1400 - 1500. Try not to go above that most of the time. It works well and you can have a nice balanced amount of food. I think your doing great your friend could be a bit jealous of your success! That happens to bad but its the truth. So good for you keep it up you deserve the loss its been lots of hard work. Now results are coming your way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!HURRAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!! Talk to you all soon I am off to work still trying to catch up on things. Last week only worked 4 days these short weeks are killing my paperwork. I think I am going to bring some stuff home. Oh how I hate to do that. But sometimes it the only way to catch up. |
Morning Ladies-
I hope you all had a nice weekend. I had a real fun weekend but had to little water and to much salt so I won't even look at a scale until tomorrow after I have a chance to drink a ton of water. I went on 2 real nice short hikes over the weekend. On Saturday I hiked about a mile and yesterday we did 2 miles. My legs are aching today I guess because the terrain is tougher then walking 2 miles on pavement or around the house. Nikki |
Good morning everyone. Well the next few days are supposed to be colder and not very nice. So I guess I'll mostly be indoors. But today, if DH gets up before the scattered thunderstorms roll in, we'll take the doggies out for a stroll. Since Kody was bad the other day, he'll be on a leash. And Blizzie hurt her foot the other day so maybe be they'll all be on a leash and we'll go around the block (the 3 mile one).
Yesterday I was in limbo about exercise. I wanted to swim but everytime there was a moment, it would drizzle and be cold. So I finally gave up on that. I couldn't take the pups out since Blizzie was still limping a bit. Rollerblading meant driving to town with is a half hour a way, so I decided to do Richard Simmon's Sweatin' to the Oldies 2. It was sort of fun. A nice change. Longer than I remembered. But, when I was done, the darn sun came out and warmed the temps to swimming temps. Murphy's Law or what??? Carol and penpal, I like what you said about maybe her being jealous. It never occcured to me that perhaps there was sabotage going on. The reason that she mentioned it is that I said I was hungry all the time. Which I guess ins't quite the case, just a lot of the time. She said I exercise so much that I need more cals. Maybe that's the case, but I don't think so. I searched the web yesterday and 1200 is still the bottom line so I think 1400 is probably okay with the exercise I do. Thanks so much for your input. I'm just going to keep doing what I'm doing. Once I feel a bit better about my weight, I'll probably increase it 200 cals and lose slower, but for now I want results (not that I saw much last Friday). :D Carol, enjoy the time with your kids. They're staying pretty long, aren't they? Cool for you. I totally agree maintenance should be your goal till the June 24th, then you ge right back on board. Nikki, I know what you mean about terrain adding more work to the walks. My walks around the block are hilly and much tougher than WATP but aren't as fast (making WATP a great aerobic exercise). Going hiking takes that even a step further since it's rocky, hilly and an uneven path. Then there's the rollerblading which has the last half as a slight incline and the wind is always head on. Most of the time I feel like I'm in horrible shape but I know it's just because each one is so different. Good luck on the weighin tomorrow. I'm going to join you on the weigh in since Friday was so disappointing. penpal, I think all huskies just love people and are the sweetest animal on earth. Only mean people can make them mean. They look "scary" to some people but they're sweethearts by nature. I've never seen my doggies hunch up, lower the tail or growl at anyone. They love all people who come to visit, especially the UPS man. They think he's there to bring them a package. :) Good luck at Curves and take it easy on those shin splints. Judy, hardly a slacker. You do Turbo Yuck. I'm very impressed with that. And you do curves. I'm just a very outdoors type of person so I find fun outside. BTW, leaving the work at the office is the right thing to do. Enjoy your weekends. Well, I guess that is it for now. I'll be back later. I have the day off (my last one of the fiscal year (ends June 30th). Today the school board votes on my raise and change in my contract. So it could be a big day. Marie |
Hi everyone, Hope; your weekend was wonderful. Mine was really good. Cold here again, but warms up in the afternoon. We went to my GS baseball game Sat. morning and almost froze! I had taken a blanket to sit on and had to wrap it around my shoulders! My weight seems to have stabalized and is still the same. So, I guess this is the weight it wants to be and i'm ok with that. Now, maintaining this......
Marie, Don't hurt yourself batteling that scale! you know they win everytime anyway! Sounds like you had a wonderful time taking GS swimming. Judy, hope your garae sale went well and you didn't do like I do!! End up buying more stuff than you sell. Penpal, Shin splints are the pits! Just got over them too. Our rehab Dr. at work showed me simple stretching exercises to do and said that would prevent them. Niki, hope you're doing well! Go make it a good day, Freda |
