Hi Nikki and Tracy, welcome. I don't think we're going to fade away. We've got a great bunch of chickies and all post pretty regularly. I've been on other threads that just have little activity. That's why I like this one. Both o you, congratulations on your losses. I'm not losing but at the moment I'm not gaining either. I need to be better with the food, but my motivation isn't high. What I am good at is walking. I exercise daily and rarely miss a day. That's why I'm not gaining. :)

Carol, the salad sounds good except the mustard (really hate that stuff). I've only had a few good pasta salads but that one sounds good. And you've got our temps beat by a little. It was 26 degrees this morning but i's supposed to get to 67 this afternoon and sunny. This is day 3 of the sun. Yesterday after work, I moved my porch swing out of the shade and into the late afternoon sun and sat in it, listening to James Patterson's Mary, Mary. It was so nice. I did have to get a blanket because the it was a little windy and the wind was passing down a mountain in my neighborhood that still has snow on it. But covered under the blanket was still great. I also got to open the window on my drive home. Ahhh, there's hope for spring here. :)

I walked again this morning. Three more miles. IDH thought I'd want to go walking last night since it was nice out, but I decided 2 more miles would make me want to pass out for the whole evening. Tonight might be another story. The doggies would love to go for a walk.

Well, back to work. I'll chat with you all later.
Marie

Marie -

Thank you for your welcome. I am looking forward to having support again. I am ding good today so far I drank 4 32 ounce water bottles, and had 1 weight watchers meal. I am planning a greek salad for dinner.

Nikki and Tracy--Good to meet you! I think that this group has hung together because when the thread lags, someone has always taken the lead on reviving it and keeping it going, like starter yeast for many loaves of bread (whole grain, of course:D ). I really enjoy the 'voices' of all the women here, and I get lots of pep talks and support from the group.

Well, if I'd waited any longer before seeing a doctor, I would have ended up with bronchitis, so I'm glad that I went in. When I showed the doctor what I'd been taking, she laughed in my face, and reminded me that now you have to ask the pharmacist to pull out the really powerful decongestants that are under lock and key, thanks to the clever drug addicts who use them for other reasons. Besides getting a prescription for some serious cold medicine, I also got some neutron-bomb antibiotics. I feel better than I have in several days, but it may be a while before the cough and the constant headache goes away.

My eating isn't too bad, I'm trying to eat extra greens, yogurt and fruit. But I am eating more carbs than usual, maybe because I haven't been sleeping well. And still not working out--boo! I'm just not up to it. But two years ago, feeling sick would've been a good reason to pig out, so I guess this is progress.

No time for personals--I have tickets to the Orioles game tonight, and will have to leave shortly. But I wanted to check in before I left, 'cuz it reminds me not to eat the unhealthly stuff at the ballpark. That's today's micro-min goal.

Enjoy the sunshine!

judy

Tracy welcome aboard we are always happy to meet new people and be able to exchange info. So WELCOME!
I have been also trying to finish up some Easter goodies around the house. My mom makes the best maple frosted nut and raisin sweet rolls. I did add the calories in and limited my intake with them. I didn't eat the whole pan! At any rate they were worth the calories. I did walk 4.0 yesterday and am doing it again today. So hopefully things will all balance out and then some.
Nikki welcome you will love this thread very supportive nice to chatt again. Remember with losing sometimes slower is better in the long run. For me it comes off slow and then I maintain. Good luck. I have been losing inches, lots of walking but then increased my intake some so I am trying to adjust it all. But as long as things fit better I know I am making a difference. Good for you getting the water in. I like mine with fresh lemon. At work I stick my water bottle in the freezer by lunch it is ice cold and oh so good.
Judy glad your on a mend. Sometimes giving in to the doctor visit is worth the trip and the bucks. The over the counter stuff costs more than the visit and the presp. Glad your mini goal is set sounds good. I should set daily mini goals. No more sweets in the mouth today moms roll was worth it and done. So lets move on! Marie sounds like your doing well with the walking I made it last night but walk with a couple of girls whom are a bit slower and I find myself walking slower. So tonight they have each other I am going earlier by myself. It will give me a better work out I think. I have to always wait for them also as we work different hrs. It puts me home an hr. later than I have to be. By then hubby has eaten and I am beat. So dinner isn't as well as it should be. Julie thanks for your kind words. The pasta salad was a hit and worth me taking the time to make it. Of course it was quite easy. Next time I will make it with the new type of pasta suppose to be better for us. I used the 3 colored kind. Today I have pre figured my menu for all my meals. So hopefully I will stick to the plans and have a great day. I need to pick up some more fruits and veggies , yogurt.
Freda hope your appt. was a good one.
The hubbies doc. see's me coming and knows he better address things before I do. So it was at least a more knowledgable appt. then some others. He at least knows I am wanting answers and what can be done to stop the progression of this disease. My hubby will try a different drug in the a.m.'s hopefully it will help him a bit. Sometimes he gives up taking it before giving time to adjust to it. So I will have to be on him for a few weeks. Oh yesteray my clients new coordinator called me and gave me a lovely compliment about how well my notes were etc. It was very nice sometimes we work hard and it never gets noticed and this was by another agency. So I forwarded my message from him to my director. She was quick to tell me what an excellent job I had done. It was nice to hear. Gotta get a bit of credit somewhere my supervisor never hands it out to any of us very often. She takes credit for the work we do! Have a great day the sun is shining and I will be a walkin! Todays goal walk, eat pre planned menu only other than adding fruit or veggies to it, no more sweets for the day!

the slim me 04-20-2006 08:46 AM

Good Morning All,

It's supposed to be a lovely day, 75 degress. I plan on taking advantage of that because who knows how long it will last! I'm going on a long walk around noon since it will be warmer by then. If I wait intill evening something usually comes up and I don't make it!

Welcome Niki and Tracey! I'm a relative newcommer too and everyone has been wonderful! I feel like i'm part of the group now. Eveyone of these ladies is so kind and encouraging. About everything! There to cheer you on or cry with you!

Marie, I have heard good reports about the Glucosomine too! Our rehab Dr. suggested that his assistant take it for her knee problems. To advise anything but a drug for a Dr. is pretty unusual! Must be good, and certaintally worth a try. I read Mary, Mary too. Thought it was pretty good! We seem to read a lot of the same books! The book tape i'm "reading" right now is Patricia Cornwell's "Predator". Great book!

cacsmc, The pasta salad sounds yummy! I keep some kind of salad in the fridge all summer for quick, halthy lunches. Pasta, bean...all made with healthy ing. and low cal dressing! It's those dressings that get you! have any of you tried the new spray dressing from wish bone? I bought one but haven't tried it yet. Sounds like a good ideal, now if the taste just holds up!
I find that most people don't ask questions at the Dr. office. I don't know if they are intimidated or just don't know what to ask. I make a list so I won't forget anything I want to know about. Otherwise, the min. I leave the office I'll think "I forgot to ask him that". I don't drink milk either but I love yogurt! I also take a calcium pill every day to make sure I get enough calcium!

Judy, Glad you got to the Dr. before you got any worse! I know, I hate going to the Dr. too! But they are necessary evils!!!! Feel better soon. Don't worry about the exercise untill you start feeling a little better! Health first! Hope you enjoyed the game!

Jules, Good ideal about writting down your menu! Knowing that you're going to have to "own up" to what you eat might make us chose healthier menus!

I get the results of my tests back today, every one cross your fingers for me!

Make it a good day, Freda

Marie 04-20-2006 02:19 PM

Morning everyone, I've been getting a bit done at work but nothing of my big stuff. Little, piddly stuff that shows little form my effort. Oh, well. I am making some headway.

Freda, I'm about 1.5 hours into Mary, Mary. I didn't like that Alex Cross lost the custody suit on a bench decision. Seemed very much like a plot device because I don't think it would happen in real life. Oh well, I will finish it though. I really like Cornwell's author counterpart - Kathy Reichs. i've listened to all of her books and now I'm addicted to Bones on Fox.

G'Day Jules - I just love saying that. :) They always say writing down everything you eat will make you lose weight. I used to do that on a dry wipe board that was on my fridge. I got out of the habit. Maybe I should try it again.

Carol, I definitely would walk by myself if it was going to make me get home an hour later and that I'd have to eat by myself. I understand about wanting to go faster. This morning I kept doing the fastest mile on the DVD again till I had my 3 miles. Took about 8 minutes less. I'm just so impatient.

Judy, hope you're healing. I'm glad you went to the dr. Spring especially on the mid Atlantic is too beautiful to miss.

I better get to work. I'm having a great lunch today. I went to Starbucks (in Safeway) this morning - yesterday's craving wouldn't go away - and picked up Safeway's homemade Tomato and Basil Bisque. I can not wait for lunch. 41 more minutes. It's going to be divine.

Nikki128 04-20-2006 02:21 PM

MMarie - I am a huge Patterson fan. I just got the 5th horesman. I did not like Alex losing custody either :(

cacmsc 04-21-2006 06:38 AM

Goodmorning all. I walked yesterday morning. It was different but I enjoyed the quiet morning around the lake. I only did one lake so it must be like little under 3 miles. But I did put a little jog into it. Morning time there aren't many folks there so I carried my cell in my hand. Yah just never know! I got my walk done for the day and quicker pace than normal. I think it was better for me. I am going again this a.m. . Also I think cause I go so early that when the parks start charging to get in I will be already there so no charge. We'll see its like 7 a day. Needless to say I will change my walking place in that case. I plan on sewing a bit and gardening if the weather holds out this weekend. I stuck to my menu pretty good til the end of the day then nibbled on little graham cracker sticks. Not as bad as somethings but still calories. Didn't get to the store yesterday.
I am going to give that glucosomine a try my hips are still achy.
Marie whats the name of the walking tape or dvd you use? I might like to try getting it. Sounds like a good back up.
Juls hows the intake going? I slipped a little but picked myself back up. Maybe we should write them on here and we'd get ideas from one another?
Freda your doing great keep up the good work.
Judy hope your feeling better.
I have walked 7 miles and will add my other 3 today. Yesterday I also walked to the main office at work and did the staircase up and down a few times.
So looks like I will meet my 10 mile a week goal. Now to see if I can beat it. Not sure I will walk saturday depends on the weather.
Have a good one. The geese are moving back good sign of summer coming our way.

Marie 04-21-2006 10:27 AM

Morning everyone. Our weather is supposed to change back to rain, but we had several beautiful days that really felt like spring. I love the smell of spring in the air.

Carol, they are Leslie Sansone's Walk Away the Pounds (or Walk at Home). I bought the 5 mile advanced walk at the beginning of March from her site. The address is http://www.lesliesansone.com/store/product110.html for the one I bought. What I like about it is that there are 3 different combos of 3 mile walks. But yesterday I chose to repeat the same mile 3 times since it's easy to hit back on the DVD player. I don't know if 3FC will let the link stay, but if they remove it I will PM you the info. I don't think that the advanced walk is on Amazon yet, but who knows. BTW, you're doing great on the walking. At least we're making some very positive changes.

Nikki, I really liked the 5th Horseman, but I liked the 4th in the series better. It had such a cool twist on the motive. I'm going to listen to Mary, Mary for a while today.

Other than listening to the book, I odn't know what I'm going to do for the day. I'm going to make the cheese blintzes for myself for breakfast. I figure the recipe will give me loads of leftovers so that I can keep having them. They reheat great.

So Jules, here is the recipe. I'm finally at my computer where I have my recipe database so I could type it in there.

Batter: 1 1/2 c. milk, 2 T. oil, 3 eggs, 1 1/2 c. flour, 1/8 t. salt : In blender, process on high until smooth. Heat 8" skillet on medium high, greased with PAM. Pour in 1/4 to 1/3 c. of batter, tilt pan quickly to cover bottom. Cook on 1 side until it blisters. Stack with paper towels between each blintz.

Filling: 2 c. ricotta cheese, 2 T. sugar, 1 egg yolk, 1/2 t. vanilla, 3 oz. cream cheese : In mixer, cream all ingredients until smooth. Place about 3 T. filling in center of each blintz (on the browned side) and spread to the edges. Roll up each blintz. In a bigger skillet, saute the Blintzes until golden brown on each side. Cover with Strawberries.

Gee, can you tell I was cutting and pasting??? The fonts look horrible. :o

Well, that's about it for now. I will probably be back laster. Have a great day.
Marie

the slim me 04-21-2006 02:06 PM

Good Afternoon everyone,

Lovely day here in Michigan! It's warmer than yesterday. I already got my walk and my weight training in! Good thing too, because it's my weekend to work and I know I won't get any exercise then.

marie, I love all the Paterson books! Loved the movies too! i like Kathy reichs too. Give me a good mystery any day! Have you read any of Tamar Myers books? That is who I will be "reading" next. I like her and Diane Mott too. Like Harla Coben too. Have you read him?

Niki, sound like me you and Marie have about the same taste in books!

cacsmc, WOW! You really are ambitious! I take my little 1/2 hour walk and i'm done! How many miles do you usually cover? Good thing there are cell phones around, huh? Makes it a little safer to get out and do what we want to do.

Everyone have a good weekend, Freda

cacmsc 04-22-2006 08:48 AM

Marie I also took your recipe it sounds wonderful. I am going to make them when the kids visit. I look forward to the treat.
I also will ck out the dvd thanks for the info.. It is rainy today and suppose to be kind of lousy on sunday as well.
So I did 11 miles this week girls. Made my mini goal hurray! I figured out my April miles and I am at 35 miles 15 to go so next week will be a busy one. I will have to fit in 4 days of walking over the next 10 days but that isn't so bad. I really enjoy it. I think if I would take my music along it would make it easier yet. I enjoy walking alone but the time seems to drag a bit. THe walk seems longer though I am getting great time. I cut the walk by about 10 min. to the good by myself. I feel I push myself a bit more. So even though my friends are a bit upset I am not walking with them they will have to get over it. I enjoy getting home a bit earlier. Yesterday I took 1.5 hrs. vac. so I could get my walk in. I had a special meeting out side the city area and didn't want to drive back there so taking time off was my way out. I enjoyed the time and did something for myself. I am turning into a selfish little brat I think. Oooops! At any rate today its raining and I am going to quilt a bit. Clean a little and pack somethings a friend will put on ebay for me. Money in the bank I figure.
Yesterdays eatting not to bad. Got into some little reduced cheese crackers waiting for dinner. But all in all not so bad. I need to get some veggies and fruits at the store today.
I am making a chicken pizza for dinner with hot sauce and mozz. onions and a few pepper rings. I will top it off by making a green salad as well. Trying to be good but creative. I grilled extra chicken last night with tonights dinner in mind.
Judy yah feeling better yet? I hope so!
Juls how's it going?
Hope everyone is doing well we are nearing the end of another month. I have a wedding in May. Still need to buy or make a dress. I might just ck out some patterns and material today.

Nikki128 04-22-2006 09:00 AM

Hi everyone-

How is everyone doing? Yesterday I gave in to temptation. I had a painful procedure done and came home to eat a burger and fries. I only had yogurt earlier in the day so maybe it was not that bad. I seem to be stuck in such a rut.

Hope everyone has a nice weekend~~~

Nikki

Marie 04-22-2006 01:08 PM

Morning everyone,

Nikki, definitely look at the whole day, not just one meal. I'm sorry about the painful procedure. That certainly doesn't sound fun. BTW, a burger and fries isn't too bad if it's just once in a while.

Carol, I don't think you're selfish, you're just doing what you need to do to be healthy. If you're friends don't understand than they're not really that good of friends.

I had a nice day off yesterday and listen to more of the book. I think I have a 1 1/2 hours left of Mary, Mary. I will probably get through it today. I think I'm going to knit and draw today too. Also, pick out another book from audible.

I already exercised this am and did my "homwork" by remote controling my work computer. The technology is cool but it make more work for me.

Well, I'll chat with you later.
Marie

marbleflys 04-22-2006 01:41 PM

HI Mmarie.....I hope you remember me from the "depression era" where we spoke frequently? Were you the person who re-did your house for son and friend to move in? I had posted some *witty* sayings that someone liked so much they printed them out? I digress.....

In the never-ending quest to get to my goal weight....my short-term goal is to put in 3 hours of hard cardio a week plus wts....building from there to remove the excess fat from the mid-section....I hope to get back into more of my clothes by memorial day. Currently 4 of my old skirts fit!! This is a vast improvement over 6 months ago when everything looked like a bad joke!

Marie, where do you get the books on tape? (or I assume now CD). Would you post the website please? TIA

Hi to everyone else....I'm 49 yo professional (woman, dieter, etc) surgical adm. who works 50-60 hours per week, has a grown daughter (who is still a child) and much stress. But I also have eternal hope that life improves.

talk to you all soon!

Marie 04-23-2006 10:53 AM

Marble, great to see you again. Definitely you were my hero on the depression boards. To get you up to date, DS and his GF had a baby boy in February so I'm now a grandma. They've both grown up tremendously since then. BTW DGS is adorable and having him here is pretty cool, even if it's only temporary. Luckily I don't have the list you wrote posted on my fridge anymore - truly them having a baby made them grow up.

I get the audios from www.audible.com. I've been a member with a month subscription for about 3 or 4 years. It costs my 22/month and I get two books per month. I download them and put them on my IPod. You can also burn them to CDs or many other mp3 players. I'm too ADD to read books anymore. I have to be doing 2 things at once.

I finished Mary, Mary, Freda. I don't know, I was sort of disappointed in it. I didn't like that the killer was barely part of the book and rarely mentioned. I don't think I was Patterson's best. Now I'm listening to Chill Factor by Sandra Brown. I think that Alibi was my favorite book of hers so far. Her books start sort of slow so it takes a while to get into it. When my audible subscription renews, I'm going to get Patterson's Beach books.

Yesterday was nice. DS's GF and I took the doggies and DGS on another walk around the 2 mile block. I'd already exercised in the morning so I ended up with 5 miles walking. Today, my legs are sort of sore and it's beautiful outside, so I figured we'd probably do the 2 mile walk later. That means I skipped the 3 mile first thing in the morning exercise. 5 miles was too much yesterday. So instead of exercising this am, I cleaned my bathroom. Oh, yeah, that was fun.

Hey Marble, I sure hope you stay. You always brighten my day.
Marie

marbleflys 04-23-2006 01:26 PM

poop, I am probably the only woman in NJ without an IPOD....(whine)! In view of the fact that I must purchase a new furnace and windows for the homestead, it's a moot point.....GLAD my weary brain remembered the events of your home improvement project Marie....and congrats on that baby!!!

However I can burn to a CD???? hmmmm, so for $22.00 per month, you actually get to KEEP the material? that is a bonus, worth checking out!

Today my only exercise seems to be *jumping to conclusions*, I've got to remove my head from the garbage disposal and concentrate on the upcoming week. I'll get a fresh workout done in the AM, feel free to kick me to get me started.....

I did get a good night's sleep, thanks to a little help and my wonderful new tempr-pedic bed...(pssst. it's everything the infomercial says it is).

it is gray and rainy here, I had to put the heat on again, wishing for a nice spring day! BBL....workworkwork!

marbleflys 04-23-2006 01:45 PM

took a lookie at the website Marie, thanks again....this is something worthwhile for the summer....I always multi-task too, and I have so much to do, it would be great to have a book to listen to. will keep you posted, gotta go get my *exercise* in...."jumping to conclusions".....argh, I think it's an interional act to make my life harder.....

judydc 04-23-2006 02:59 PM

Carol, congrats on reaching your walking goal, that's fabulous. And no, you aren't selfish, you're just doing what you want to do in your free time, and why not?

Marble and Marie--I a big reader but haven't listened to audiobooks very often. I recently read Helen Oyeyemi's The Icarus Girl, and highly recommend it. I'm now reading some science fiction by Nalo Hopkinson, very interesting, if you like that sort of thing--and I do.

I'm recovering nicely, thanks for all the good wishes. I'm still a little congested, but I worked out yesterday, yippee, and plan to walk for half and hour or so this afternoon.

Hope everyone's week starts off on the right (or left, sneakered) foot.

judy

marbleflys 04-23-2006 03:14 PM

Hi Judy, I'm recovering too, but from a *stomach-bug* from last week.....it halted my workouts a bit, but thanks for the inspiration. it will come in handy tomorrow AM.

chaarli 04-23-2006 03:36 PM

ladies may I join your thread/
I've had a bit of a break from my weight loss journey and need to get motivated again. Your thread caught my eye as you seem so supportive and caring.
I need to get my head together and get things back on track.
I have put on weight in the past year after losing a good amount so now I have to start again.

Nikki128 04-23-2006 03:38 PM

Welcome chaarli-

I am in the same boat as you and recently joined the thread. I look forward to getting to know you !

Nikki

Marie 04-23-2006 04:22 PM

Hi everyone, welcome Chaarli, good luck getting back on tract. Daily motivation is hardest for me. I know what to do, how to do it, but staying on path to keep doing it is not my forte. Exercise, that I do religiously but for reasons other than weight loss (help stave off depression).

Nikki, how is it going?

Judy, I'm sure glad you're starting to feel better. I don't know if I'm going to walk at all today, but I should. I've been listening to a book for a couple hours while I knitted (and lounged) and now my head is woozy.

Marble, I was looking at audible today too because my annual subscription ends in June. I love my ipod and got it for $100 off last June with a 1 year subscription. But when I'm listening to books, then I can't switch to music without losing my place in the book (if there's a way, I odn't know how and I'm too lazy to look). So I decided to see what offers they had for another year. There are several of them if you go to the device center (ipod shuffle for $40 something bucks or a creative muvo - BTW I had one of those and I liked it even though it didn't have a display). Anyway, there were some good deals. But I decided to go to ebay and find a creative muvo 128 since it should be cheap and it does play audible files (and I liked the one I had). I bid on one and got it for 8.68 and 8 shipping. So for under $17 I'm getting a different player just for audible. So, there is different devices out there that are dirt cheap and easier than CDs. But I do burn the CDs sometimes for road trips. If you're interested, PM me so I can refer you - then I get a free bookie - I like free and I like books. A perfect combo.

Okay, since this turned into a book, I shall exit. Talk to you later.
Marie

marbleflys 04-23-2006 04:41 PM

absolutely, Marie, I'll PM you first when I'm ready to jump in....oh I'm such a clutz, how *easy* is this to do with the IPOD???? duh.........(i've never even heard of a creative muvo?)....I'll be in touch when the funds are disposable, it would be great to have this as i'm working on the homestead through the summer.

cacmsc 04-24-2006 07:10 AM

Welcome Chaarli ! I am with you lets get moving today is monday and a whole new week.
Yah know girls I increased my walking which raised my intake of food as I was so hungry. So I let a few things slip in figuring oh I just had a long walk etc. Oh no! The scale wasn't friendly this morning but a must. Now I know ate some salty foods yesterday so some could be water but not all of it. I am going to really watch myself this week. I have to so I am preplanning , journaling my intakes and exercising or walking. But I will make sure water is also drank a bit more too. I had ham yesterday and that always makes a difference but at any rate I am still up there. Not happy at all! I know muscle wts more than fat but even with that its up there! Oh so mad at myself for letting little things slip back into my intake that I know shouldn't . So this week I will be hard on myself. I am also looking into the Sonoma diet has anyone tried it? Please let me know it sounds so healthy and when I am doing things right similar to my foods I like. So let me know. To all you new comers usually I am up beat but today just upset with myself . I will be using the scale for a good balance tool. I read in a study people whom used a scale lost more wt. cause it keeps you on track. I am not sure I fully agree but for right now will take their word. Judy glad your feeling better.
So off I am to grab my healthy lunch. Just had my banana and kashi. If I do the sonoma diet no fruit in the first 10 days. But I already have banana so I will use them up but becareful with the other stuff. Drinking more water will help too. I am off to the gym or walking if it doesn't rain today. Its cloudy right now flurries on tues. Where did my spring weather in the 70's go? Come Back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Good luck to everyone!

hi

Good Morning Lovely Ladies, Hope everyone is doing well today! I had to work the weekend, but it rained the whole weekend any way! so, no big loss.

:welcome3: Marble and Chaari, Looking forward to getting to know you!

Niki, Don't beat your self up for eating after a painful procedure. I think most of us eat for confort. I think we just have to remember, it doesn't really confort us! Just adds to the problem! I do that too, though! After a hard day at work I try to calm myself down by eating! Doesn't work, never has, neve will!!! Why do I still do it?:rollpin:

Marble, You'll be back into those clothes by summer! Just remember how much you want to! This is what I do, but please remember i'm a little crazy: I try on an outfit that is just a little too tight and tell myself "next week this button is going to be closer to closing".

Charri, I lost down to my goal weight last summer, went on vacation and activated an old back injury and gained it all back! So, we're in the same boat! This time i'm determined not to gain it back! That's why I'd depending on this site to keep me on my toes!

cacmsc, Just pick your self up, dust yourself off, and get back on the wagon! We're all here to help you on!

Judy, so glad to hear that you are feeling better. I know that really knocks your socks off!

Marie, I wish I knew about all the things you're talking about, but i'm sad to say, I don't! I don't have an I-Pod, not even sure what it is. I know it's what al the kids wanted for Christmas this year! I just have my CD player and I get all my talking books at the library! I always have one in the car, one to use while i'm walking!!! I go through so many! I can order what I want from the library and they will get them for me, so works for me! Did you get your workout in?

Eveyone have a good day! Remember, we can't controle what others do, but we can controle our reactions to what they do! Freda

Thanks for the welcome in goils.....

Slim, (that's also the name of my 25 lb. cat)...you and I must be twins separated at birth....I do the same thing with my clothes...currently I can now wear 4-5 skirts that haven't seen my hips since 2003.....YES!:carrot:

c, I also have slipped with the food this past weekend, I've had too many heavier dinners, using food as recreation. time to cut back and remember what I'm putting in my mouth.

I worked out for 25 mins. this morning....and plan to hit the gym after work to use the treadmill and elliptical....the bad news is that we have luncheon today and it's this great pizza.... so I really NEED to put in the time on some hard cardio.

TTYL, hmmmI wonder if my library would order cds? I should call and ask.

I am feeling much better today. I got a pt babysitting thing afternoons and feel better emotionally getting out of the house. I am hoping this is the start of alot of losing for me. I have a fancy date on May 27 and want to lose 10 lbs for it. You all heard it here. 10 lbs in 33 days. I think it is doable.

Marble- Way to go on the workout!'

Nikki

marbleflys 04-24-2006 10:07 AM

Nikki, YES it is POSSIBLE....what are you doing for workouts? one of my current favorites is standing abs..(like doing a crunch on your feet) wearing 3 lb. ankle wts. It is really tightening up the lower belly for me, I've been at it for 2 weeks intermittently.

Nikki128 04-24-2006 10:09 AM

Marble-

I am doing a ball routine using one of those big exercise balls. I can't do anything other then that because I am recovering from a broken ankle. What are standing abs??

Nikki

marbleflys 04-24-2006 10:12 AM

standing abs are just like laying down abs....imagine how you would work your obliques....lift the opposite leg and crunch....I use ankle wts, but you don't have to...

You could also work your arms and chest while resting your ankle with dumbbells.

Marie 04-24-2006 11:01 AM

Marble, that's quite a cool way to try and do crunches. Can you feel it working? I know I have to get back to some ab work to join my walking. My stomach is my problem area now.

Freda, that's cool that you can get your stuff from the library. My parents can do that in Minneapolis too. Me, I live in the middle of nowhere and the library has nohing newer than 20 years old. So I buy my audiobooks.

Carol, you're on the right track since you're oding the walking. work on the portions and the weight will drop off. We can do this together.

Nikki, you can do 10 pounds. I'll join you - sort of. I won't weigh myself because I get obsessive but I will join you on a quest by May 27th, I will lose equivalent to 10 pounds - that my jeans will fit baggy. Okay, we on.

I actually didn't walk at all yesterday. My right calf was still achey from overdoing it on Saturday. So I lounged with my audiobook. I knitted a little and was just a plain bum. I got a little sunburnt since that big all of fire was actually up in the sky. It was beautiful out and it's to continue through today at least. I listened to my book outside on my swing overlooking my near frozen pool. :) I did switch my moisturizer from the non-SPF Oil of Old Lady to the 15 SPH Old Lady. I was using up the older stuff without the SPF since it had been so cloudy here. But today, I'm armed with SPF and plan to be outside again. I didn't walkwith the DVD this morning since DH and I both have today off and we're going on a hike in the wonderful outdoors. My calf is still a little sore, but there's no way I'd take 2 days off.

So, Nikki and I are on a quest to lose 10 pounds (or fat equivanlent) so I'm ready to get to it. I'll chat with you later.

Marie-

I am glad to have you join me. It always helps to have someone cheer you on.

marbleflys 04-24-2006 11:31 AM

SNORT....Oil of Old Lady! uh, I've been using that since I was 18....

OK Nicki and Marie, add my 6 pound quest by the end of May to your 10 each....uh that's 26 lbs between the 3 of us OR a bag of kitty litter plus a couple of extra scoops....

SPEAKING of the BAD CAT......I was scooping the box this AM and left it to tend to the coffee pot (i have my priorities at 530AM!) I buy the clumping litter in a bucket....the BAD CAT:devil: decided to pee in the new bucket of litter....I guess I didn't clean his box fast enough!!!

Marie 04-24-2006 05:32 PM

I decided that tomorrow morning I will actually weigh myself, then again on May 27th. So, Nikki and Marble, it's going to be official. :)

Marble, I've called it Oil of Old Lady since I started when I was about 18. And you have a fun kitty.

Girls I have dusted myself off and ready to get back on that dang wagon again. I tried hard today to increase my water and then to make healthy choices and watch the portions. I didn't do too bad. I journal wrote my intakes and then commented for myself. Marie honey your it my buddy to walk with and eat right with we can do this. I am going to knock off this over eatting thing. I have let things slip back into my diet and that is the problem. Too much of the portions and not always the best choices. So half of fixing the problem is knowing the problem so I am 1/2 way there! Better attitude tonight. I didn't exercise and won't really til wed. then do fri. and sat. this week. First I am going to concentrate on my portions and foods, water. Then the walking again and exercise. It was a busy day at work. Oh mondays never know what will be waiting for you. I finished up some things that needed to be done. On tues. I hope to write some reports and have an afternoon meeting. I have my menu planned for tues. preplanning once again. I am also into counting and measuring things out. Its got to work eventually how can it not? Sounds like everyone else is moving forward too! That is great. I like that 25lb. cat wow slim is a great name for him.
Marie doing the scale will help us try harder to lose I hope. Also the study said it keeps us more on task and better results. The folks that used a scale lost more and kept it off. Now that would be a great thing. So lets go girls!
Girls add 7lbs. for me as a goal by 5/27 lets get moving we can do this. I am going to use the scale every 3 days this week trying to stay on track.

chaarli 04-25-2006 01:44 AM

Arrgghh

I've set myself to sort myself out and get back into things and I'm sick with a sore throat. I think I'll use the next few days to plan things out and get my head sorted and then completely restart on Saturday. I like starting on a weekend.I exercise daily and that's good but I want to up my exercise and get my food back under control which it isn't at the moment.
Tomorrow my goal will be do drink enough water.

cacmsc 04-25-2006 06:21 AM

Chaarli I know what you mean not only do you have to be prepared to start over you have to be in the mood fully. I feel that after my scale numbers on monday it scared me into moving forward. I did good yesterday and preplanned things out it helped. For each one of us something different moves us along hopefully in the right direction. I am tracking everything closely til I get a good grip again. I feel better today better frame of mind. I did the scale this a.m. and it was down a bit. But I am not totally surprised as I had eaten salty ham, chips etc. Needless to say its so easy to add things back into our intakes things we know don't belong. So I have to clean up my intake a bit. Today I am going to try to squeeze in a 30 min. walk during my day. I used fitday.com last night to see if my calories were correct. The calories were still higher than I would like but at least healthy foods. 1620 cals. I normally shoot for 1500. I ate cashews 10 cajun ones as a snack that raised my cals a bit. But they are healthy in moderation. Hopefully everyone else is off to a good start today. I am trying to remember to that if yah mess up one day don't let it be a week. By looking at my journal that should help me stay focused. My friend said she gained 4lbs. since we started walking she had a doctors appt. yesterday. I told her I think its because we were so hungry after that we defeated our walk though we did tone up and muscle does weigh more correct? At any rate I still want the scale down and know I need to make healthy changes to reflect the scale changes. I hate to say it but at least I had company on this gain. Now maybe together we can all lose.
One day closer to May 27th goal 7lbs!!!!!!!!!!!! Mini goal 10 miles a week. Still counting.

Nikki128 04-25-2006 07:32 AM

Hi girls-

Yesterday was a good day for me. I walked up and down the stairs about 6 times and did my ball routine. It is a baby step but I bet a few days of that I will start seeing results. I am commited this time around.

I wanted to say congrats to us all for getting on this and doing it :carrot: :carrot: :carrot:

Nikki

the slim me 04-25-2006 01:51 PM

Good morning all, Can I join that fitness goal? I only need about 5 more lb. but i'll aim for that! I know we can do it, don't you?

Now about that standing crunch....exactally how do you do it? Pretend you're explaining it to a very dense OLD lady....with the weights on your ankel do you raise your knee up or lift your leg out? My abs are my problem area. It's always the first place I gain and the last place I lose!

cacsmc, Glad you're back in the groove! I think we all hae to reavualate now and then. I keep measuring cups in the cereal and remeasure things like rice and potatoes occasionally. It's just too easy to forget how much a serving really is.

Make it a good day, Freda
