  • pause days...
Oh, and Fish! Pause days are for just that challenge round. Also, they don't carry over. You use 'em or lose 'em. Each challenge you get one more until max of three. So, first round, 1 pause day; second round, 2 pause days; third round, three pause days; fourth round and beyond, three pause days. Ok?
  • I went.. and the rain stopped was nice to walk in the cool air.. now the sun is blasting out! but 3 miles done!
  • Well i couldnt post yesterday because i wasnt near a computer, yesterday was a pause day for me, on to day 14 today My weigh in is tomorrow hopefully im at 148 wish me luck
keep up the good work everyone!!!
  • I want to join. This sounds like a good idea and a good motivator. I am just starting back trying to lose weight and have a long way to go. I think my first challenge will be to write down what I eat everyday and post here everyday because I need to accountable or else I slip into old habits. I will start Day 1 tomorrow.
  • I WANNA PLAY!!! actually I want to join....Melody your plan is the same as mine...I am starting new tommorrow...I have never written down what I have eaten, but I think it would be a good idea....I also need to be accountable.....I am 41 and not getting any younger...I need to get this weight off me.....Good luck to everyone and if I can be of help just let me know!!
  • I want to do the 21 day challenge....I need some advice on where to start though......Tomorrow I am getting serious about this weight loss thing....I need to be accountable plus need a friend.....I WANT TO DO THIS!!!
  • Hi Melody and Purple! You've come to the right place!! Everyone here is VERY encouraging and supportive, not to mention funny!
There are lots of ideas here too. Now I'm beginning to think about trying pushups too! May as well try one or two when I'm down on the floor for sit ups...
Well, bad news regarding my challenge....I completed day 3 for exercise but I'll have to start again on the drinking. I visited a friend who brews his own beer and was just bottling 2 fresh batches. Could not resist and boy were they good!!! Too early for a pause so I'll just start again. The next 2 weekends are going to be tough to get through with pending social engagements....
And to top it off, announcing the arrival of TOM!! Booooooo!
That explains the munchies I was having trouble with last week. And Evil Mom was in residence too ... PMS is troublesome but once things actually get started I'm OK, just bloated and yucky feeling. I can stay in control. I need to stay away from the scale, because that will definately crush me if I let it...
  • Purplerose,

I see that we are starting at about the same place. My first goal is just to get under 200. I haven't been there since I was about 22 (I just turned 30).

    AppleBlossom,

Thanks for the welcome! I think I will like this group.
  • Just welcomin' the new folk!
Melody & Purple - Welcome! This is a great thread to join, the people are super nice. Your goal of keeping a food diary is excellent. When people ask me how I have lost weight, the first thing I say is that I wrote down every single thing that went into my mouth.

Good luck to you both, I look forward to reading more about you as we go on.
  • hi melody & PR ... well i started with walking at 288 ... then as i lost i started going to ladies workout express (curves clone) and i still walk!

hey PR i was born in 1960 and i am just turning 39 are ya sure about your age??
  • Yyyaahhhooo!
Hey guys you are not gonna believe it...
I set my challange to drink less than 600ml of soda a day...
    WELLL!

    DAY 1 finished - soda = 0ml's !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    .................................................. ..............................................
    .................................................. ..............................................
I can kick the habit after all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Hi. I am a soda addict, too. I am going to try to limit it a lot this week and then give it up next week. My addiction is Diet Mountain Dew. I can drink a whole 2 liter on Sat. and another one on Sunday when I am home from work and on workdays I drink half of one. I really need to drink water instead.
  • working on 16.....
Good morning. ANOTHER rainy day here. Damn! I hate this rain and tomorrow I have to go into the office and it may not be raining. Oh well, I will get to the gym and do a good workout today! Yes! It's Day 16 for me here. I have done more ab work the past two workouts thanks to the inspiration here from chaps. It hurt so I mustn't have been doing much before. Am back doing my weight training routines (three-say split) but doing squats every day to tighten up my legs again. I am hoping that, combined with the lack of sugar, white flour and other little extras in my diet, the exercise will help start to get the fat off again. I don't know if I am just more attuned to my body these days or what but I am really noticing the fat more than I remember doing earlier. I am thinking I just have more of it on me, but maybe too it's just I'm more aware of it. I must say I don't like being aware of it! but perhaps it's better than having it and not realizing it!

Melody -- Welcome! So, what is your challenge? To journal every day? Be sure to tell us what day you are on, where you are in your challenge. This is an action-oriented thread and we are all here to cheer for others and to hold them accountable. We can't do that if you don't know the score so keep us informed. I think your wanting to cut back on the soda is excellent. There is a ton of caffeine in all these sodas, not to mention the sugar or chemicals from the sweeteners. There is nothing good about them, cept I suppose the taste. I never drank soda and I am so glad I didn't. I was a real pain as a kid because soda was easy to find at rest stops but I had to have something else! I drink water all the time and for a special treat I get the Italian or French carbonated water. Well, good luck!

ice -- Hurrah for your first day down. I suppose, since you seem to drink so much of the stuff and because it has caffeine, you are doing the best thing by just cutting down. Good for you! Keep it up!

Apple -- Oh, too bad about the beer...but homemade brews just being bottled..well, that was too good to turn down. I hear you on the social engagements. I was telling someone on the phone the other day..."I don't want to drink this week...so let's get together the next week...." I guess it sounds weird to people, but to me it's largely the principle of it and the being aware of when or how often I'm drinking. I'm not worried about the quantity. To me, it's the habits that are more detrimental I think. Especially with drinking, it tends to involve the same people and if I were to have only these kind of people around me, I'd be drinking with them all the time. This way, not allowing myself to drink, means they either move out of my social circles, change their ways (and me mine) or I get new people into the circles with whom I can just go have a coffee, lunch or dinner or whatever, but something that doesn't involve drinking. Well, good luck. Keep up the exercise and get back on the beer wagon!

purplerose -- Welcome! So, your challenge is journaling and coming here?! Okay! What kind of advice are you looking for? There is tons here on this forum. Just browse the threads and the stickies. I would perhaps look at the maintainers threads and success story threads. When you want to learn how to do something right, learn from the people who have done so already! Well, I hope to hear lots from you and as I said to Melody, keep us clear on the day you're on. You keep us clear and we'll keep you on the wagon!

vanessa -- Good for you. Just one more week to go! Good luck on the weigh-in. I hope you have made it to 148.

curly -- Bravo to you for braving the rain! Neither rain nor sleet nor snow nor dark of night shall stay curlylocks from her walks!!

Shad -- Good going on making it through Day 16! Hurrah for you! Sounds like the exercise is coming along well. Going for the burn even!

Silly -- So, it's going to be pushups. Ok! You can still do them without a ball, of course. But, yes, doing them with one will be great for your abs as well. And your back too as it all is utilized in helping you maintain your balance.

marble -- Where are you? I hope you can get on the challenge soon. Too bad about the dog. Poor thing. Maybe you can put paper down for him so he at least feels he has a place to go. Hope to see you here soon!

Mez, come back!! Sweet, you there?!?! Carla, can you read this? Everyone, come in and post!!

  • The ball is for situps. I can't do just straight sit ups cuz of my back. Push ups arent a problem. Gonna start tomorrow, didn't get a chance to do anything today, been helping my brother move out and my dad move furniture
  • Day 17 completed, only 4 more to go. And one pause day left if I need it!

Well folks, old Carla is not a pretty sight. Lots of deep purple around and under the eyes, and of course the fleshtone splint over the bridge is a rather dubious fashion accessory. At least it means I can wear my glasses without feeling them on the bridge of my nose. I must say, if I had it to do over, I think I'd just suck it up and accept life with only one functioning nostril. It feels like the second week of the world's worst cold, and I can't blow my nose until Thursday. Which I guess will be my birthday present. At least this has eliminated any vague idea of one day getting a face lift!

I'll post more tomorrow. Right now it's time for some more of that healing sleep. Maybe when I wake up I won't still look - or feel - like death on a bun!
