Linus, I am so sorry that you are feeling so poorly. Get well, soon!
No race last week, but today was the Downtown Melbourne 5K for The Haven, a home for abused and neglected children.
The men's race started at 7:30 and the women's race started at 8:15. Just as the women's race started it began raining. First sprinkles, then heavy downpour and driving wind. I have never been so drenched - totally soaked! But I kept on going, didn't fall down and finished. I walked when there were wet leaves that might cause me to fall and through the deep puddles. My first 5K that I ran feeling like I was deep sea diving! We came home and after lunch I promptly took a nap.
I'll post more later...just want to get a Shout Out in.

Hey Linus, if crying gets DH to do the ironing, then I'll send you an onion to keep it up Actually that was quite nice of him. Here's to DH for helping out Sorry to hear that you're feeling sick again. Get better soon!
Ahhh I sense fall in the air somewhere across the world as Shad gets into footy season again (cheering the games and the players in more ways than one, right )
Wow Tig, running in a downpour AND driving wind does not sound fun. I never gave much thought about the wet leaves but you are entirely right - what a hazard. Good thing you had the sense to be careful.
Mel, did you get the apartment all shined up? I'll think of you as I'm doing laundry myself. I think the neighbors drop their clothes in, surely this big pile can't be coming from just us.
My hair is cut short - short for me which is to the chin but nicely colored - more all over blond than just highlighted. Good look for summer. I like the new hairdresser and salon. I don't have to worry about "big southern" hair because thin, straight and baby fine just doesn't make for big hair. It's a pretty versatile cut too - straight, a bit of body or curly if I want to make it so. I'm pleased. The hair took longer than I had planned so I missed the big soire down the street. DH was disappointed, I told him there will be other opportunities to get together, I am sure. And this was ladies only, hopefully the next one will be an everyone get together. Besides I told him, we can have a big BBQ if he really wants to meet everyone. I think I pulled a muscle in my arm - this having 2 office locations is getting ridiculous. I must be hauling 60 pounds of stuff between a laptop, a bulging briefcase, my purse, lunch, etc. It's too much already and if I dare leave something at one office, sure enough I need to reference it sometime during the week when I'm at the other office. Lots of my notes are paper based based from generation to generation so I don't always have electronic copies that I can keep on the laptop either. Good thing I'm not bowling this summer as it would be out of the question at the moment!
DH and I went shopping today. We bought a daybed and a trundle bed to go underneath - 2 twin mattresses that side by side will expand out to a king size bed. We also bought the mattresses, a mirror and a dresser/chest/bureau what ever you'd call it -- something with drawers for people to put their "drawers" in when they come to visit. While waiting for the salesman, I found a glider type love seat that I just fell in love with. It's a gorgeous flowered fabric pattern that will go perfect in the living room. And it's sooo comfy. I'm really excited about it. I suppose I should be looking for uncomfortable stuff that would NOT make me want to settle in front of the TV, shouldn't I?
And tonight is turn the clocks ahead daylight savings time. Much as I love to get that hour back in the fall, I do resent losing a precious weekend hour in the spring. Why don't we ever change clocks during the middle of a workday?
That was Sunday, I guess.
I've been up and down ladders, lifted and lugged, pulled and tugged and managed to get just about everything on my list done. Couple of minor things to do, one of which I will do before bed and the other will need to wait for daylight. So this day is done.
It's been a glorious day. A bit warm at times but with a nice breeze to just blow the humidity away. The roses are just loving this weather and are bursting into bloom all over the place. It's nice to sit out in as well. I managed an hour of hammock time today with a Geoffrey Archer novel but didn't get much read.
Put out some more rubbish this morning. I notice that the old speakers have disappeared, one of the chairs has gone and the seat of the other is gone. It really amuses me to see these people going around rummaging and scavenging stuff. Still Ossie who used to be in the journals once said she furnished a lot of places like that when she was at University. The two old printers are still there. I guess that the price has come down so far now that these are not worth trying to fix even if they are free. Such is life in the computer world.
Haven't heard from the DS since his father went back, but have had a email from the ex thanking me for my help in making his holiday happy.
Hope linus is feeling better. Mind you if someone was taking 4 hours to do my ironing I might be sick too with laughter. Thanks for the pm.
I rung Teel this morning. I feel rather embarrassed actually. No she wasn't up to mischief MEL, lift the mind a bit me ol' darlin. I rang her and she answered the phone sounding all sleepy and then woke up properly. We chatted for a while and then got round to the time question as per normal. For some reason I thought it would be around 7. in the evening over there and it turned out to be midnight. No wonder she sounded as if the brain was someplace else at first. It probably was. Silly, silly me. Anyway, she is in pain because her anti inflamatries (sp) have been taken away and her feet hurt. I asked if her hands hurt and she said no, not unless the carpal tunnel is on the rise, so I asked why she didn't get on the computer and talk to us. She may be back to say hi soon. She better be back to say hi soon.
Happy, the furniture sounds great, somewhere to put stuff when the nosy bod from overseas arrives!!! Maybe soon, maybe if this job works out.
Talking about this job, I have yet to see the paperwork or find the first morning instructions for meet and greet. I will wait for the postman to come tomorrow and if that doesn't produce results, then I will be on the phone for the answers. With the way this is going, I may yet not have work to do next week.
Good to hear from you Tig. Running in the rain, sounds like something to just get through to me. Mind you it is so long since we saw decent rain here, that I would probably happily run in the rain and wave my arms around and shout and laugh and fall over. We desparately need rain and are now moving into the dry season.
Ah well the day is catching up on me and I am yawning over the computer, so maybe bed calls. Seeya
Hi Happy~ I was up at 7:15 which is really 6:15 to teach Sunday school. It was a short night! Yawn.Your love seat sound beautiful and a glider no less!
Linus~ DH is sweet. What a valiant effort!! Get better, okay?
Shad~ I commented in your journal.
I painted for 7 hours yesterday in the basement. It looks like fruit salad. It was bare concrete. Now it is lime, lemon and tangerine and purple in blocks of colour. Very cheery. It is getting hard to remember how gross it was. Inches of water, mold ,sludge, rotting wood, a leaky oil tank, garbage from the old owner........
Now it is clean and dry and sealed and mostly painted. We have a rug for part, a hockey area set up, the pool table is set up. I have batik throws that I sewed together to use at our old place. I will take them apart and make curtains.I am going to hang curtains under the stairwell to make a fort.
We will still have to paint the floor.
I am teaching SS early today and then home to paint and tidy the house.
Time for another coffee and then a shower.
Hello Worldly chicks!
Linus I am so sorry to hear about the sickness still and sending goooood thoughts your way!! Glad the DH is ironing....does he do wash? Get well soon.
Tig, congratulations on finishing eben though you ended up like sponge bob!!! With the first drop, I would have turned around! just wanted to get a shout out in here too!
I understood perfectly what you were saying. Must be a Yank thing!
Shad you are the most busy personm I have ever met. I get tired just readying your posts and wish I could read them from a hammock!!! I truly hope you enjoy your time off to get those things done that you want. Have a great time!
Holly I am going to hire you and the kids. Decided I could use a bit of cheering up with bright colors too!!! Have a great time and paint away!!!
We lost electric last night for a few hours. I stayed downstairs. People panic and that's when accidents happen. They all troop into the elevator and come to see me, then go back upstairs happy someone is there. Thank God we have a generator that runs the hall lights on every floor and both elevators. So we are NOT totally out ever. I will admit that a few times I lost my patience and regret it today but there are a few women here that are very sharp tongued and expect you to take it like some slave.
Then they go away almost in tears if you give it back to them.
SIGH! Hopefully tomorrow I will go for a ride to the Mall. It's close by and I need to get out and about again. Been in this house too long!!! I also am proud to announce that even with the flan I ate the other day and 4 olives last night that I lost 2 POUNDS THIS WEEK!! I hope it's not a fluke and I get them back next week like I always do. But I wanted you to know first before I post it tomorrow:cg:
Have a great week and keep those Chick Smiles in place on your face
HOW COULD I MISS HAPPY!!!!
I must scroll down to fast or something!
HAPPY~ I'm singing your song....OH HAPPY DAY, OH HAPPY DAY.....I got mine cut sort too! It was by accident but I'm really liking it. Wash and wear hair with a bit of blow drying
The furniture sound very nice and I hope you are making plans for MY room. I will share the trundle bed with shad cause she can pick me up on the way to your house. let me know when it's all decorated!!! making this house your Home is the best part I always think! Enjoy! Loved the glider idea. My Father bought a rocker love seat and my brother and I loved it soooo much. He didn't often do things the right way but this was one of them!
So relaxing and comfy. it's good to have a special chair or whatever to destress in from this zany world we live in. Have fun!
I am home now..... I left late yesterday from boise ..... I couldn't take another night in wonderland.... wondering when I would be able to sleep. A house full of college men and all their friends and their friends friends and beer runs at midnight....yikes! I spent some quality time with my eldest and hopefully there will continue to be some positive changes for him. His girlfriend just destroyed him on his birthday.... ring her neck if I could..... but ultimately he is the one who must control his life.
Everyone I hope is well and healthy. I am sad as the world reflects on the life of the Pope. He was such and ambassador of Peace.
I will be back later to catch up with everyone. Had some great walks with my son the last two days.
Take care everyone,
Nae
Thanks to all of you for your kind thoughts and prayers...they really helped the whole situation.

Good morning chickies,
Holly your basement sounds lovely with all the bright colors. Sounds like a great place to gather and get in some quality play time. What color will you be painting the floor?
Welcome back home Nae. I suppose getting your heart broken at least once by the opposite sex is part of the grand scheme of life. The saddest part of all I think is losing your innocence - your blind trust of another close to you. Hopefully DS will mourn and then carry on.
Miss Mel, I would say we have twin haircuts but I've seen your picture and I know you have a nice, thick head of hair. So we won't compare ok? It's funny, what's short to you or me is probably "so long I can't stand it another minute" to Shad.
Shad next time you come to visit, it has to be earlier in the year than last time. Around the time of our birthdays. I think you would really enjoy the colors and blooming around here. You're probably the only one who wouldn't mind the dripping melting summers here either. What heat - you should see it in the sub tropics We'll give Mel the first floor guest room and we'll take the others, tho if DH gets me my hammock for my birthday as requested, I might be sleeping outside. To be determined tho as they say the mossies (mosquitoes) are quite big down here. DH has already seen the hornets and all I can say is that he ran right to the store and bought several LARGE cans of bug spray. I haven't seen them yet and don't intend to go looking for them - I'm not a fan of stinging, flying insects.
After reading all of Shad's to do list - which she completed none the less, it's time to make my own and get busy with a day that's only 23 hours. Enjoy yours too. (Hope all comes through with the job Shad - isn't that annoying how they mess with your life????)
hi chickies i have received the most fantastic baby present a very large bright fluffy yellow CHICK ,i cant wait to get my new digital camera to show you all i was in tears of laughter and this was from one of mums freinds thats not heard me going on about my mates ,as you can probably tell im feeling much better today ,i only sneeze every 10 minutes instead of every three my darling son came home BALD last night him and his mate decieded that there hair had to come off i wont tell you what i said but i did say he looked like a certain trans atlantic aunt he wasnt amused and lo and behold this morning he doesnt like it tough luck kiddo.
TEEL has gone galavanting to her freinds for the week so she definantly wont be in to chat but definantly sounds a lot more happy {thanx shad} and will enjoy her week in derby im sure ,shes off to visit the freinds she went to london with .
right weve spent most of the day organising cupboards and im knacked just wanted to ease some minds and give a " shout out " and ill be back tomorrow lots of lovely thought for you all
kirsty{and bladder bouncing bump}
A quick hello to you all. BEAUTIFUL summer weekend here in Auz but now winter has bombed us again. It's raining but we need it so i will not complain.
You all sound busy beavers, esp you Shad. I feel guilty because i spent my Sunday on and off the bed feeling ugg. Feeling better today though.
DH's job situation keeps unfolding. He is off to Europe at the end of the week. I have visitors to kinda keep me company while he is away and I have the kids on hols.
Feeling much more in control is things. Life has finally slowed down a bit.
We did some shopping for beds too Happy. WE bought a double for DS room so it can double as a guest room. Nice linen for it and side tables. I'm looking for some nice lamps too. It's lovely having a little spruce up now winter is coming and it's given me the feeling to paint the walls in the bedrooms. They need a little change and perhaps the curtains in mine. I usually get busy like this when DH is away so he will come back to some nice changes.
The tiling downstairs is coming along nicely, after taking up the carpet I have no idea why we have it, it was sooo dusty and looked awful! No wonder Ds was suffering a little from all the allergies. The tiles makes the downstairs area look so modern. DS mentioned he thought it looked like a loft apartment in the city with the brick on the walls.
Holly your painting sounds wonderfully bright. I love the sound of lime and tangerine.
Hi Rose, nice to see you home. It's so good of you to go and see your son when he needs you, gives me a glimpse at what I'm in for. I hope to be as caring and thoughtful as you
Mel...two pounds...yaaay you. You sound so focussed on your new regime. I need to find mine again. Maybe with the colder weather coming on. Sounds funny but I seem to do better then. I love power cuts. Love getting all the candles out. Very special all snuggling together for a while. YOur residents must feel very safe with you
Linus I hope you are feeling better soon for you and DH ...anyone who picks up an iron is an angel in my books. How cute about the little chick.
Tig...hi did yu run in the rain or not? I wan't sure. Wow you are a dedicated chicky.
Have wonderful weeks girls. I'm thinking of you all and to anyone I missed
Well exercise is still avoiding me. I have come to the conclusion it is a personal space issue. I need more room and more time to focus on me. I think I need to clean my room for starters, remove all tripping materials from the exercise pathway and then shut and lock the door and sweat for a bit Could happen
Shad-It sucks that they are leaving you hanging with the details about your new position. Hope this is just a slight disorganizational glitch and not shades of things to come Is there anything left in your home? Have you only kept the things that make your smile and feel cheery? How kind of your dear ex to acknowledge your time spent making his stay enjoyable, he noticed
Mel-so were you sitting in the lobby or something? Do they all troop down to rant at you about the lights? Like you are the electric fairy or something? How powerful you are I hope you get good weather and your trip out to the mall to give yourself some "me" fun, you deserve to forget about all those people and their demanding ways. Kudos to you
Happy-cool times ahead. The feathering of your nest sounds divine! Your hair sounds very stylish, how lucky are you to find a hairdresser so quickly that isn't trying to boufant you
Holly-have you been watching Debbie Travis? Your painting/decorating sounds very uplifting, chasing away the blahs with colour in every corner.
Rose-aw, your poor son, hugs for his heart and fingers crossed he will snap out of it and enjoy his college buddies and all that flowing beer Where did you sleep? How noisy was it?
Tig-running in driving wind and rain? Was it some kind of punishment for past sins, you are one dedicated spirit! Go girl, run on!!
Linus-soak those tootsies as often as possible to ease your discomfort. Isn't your hubby a doll! Iron man That is a dear to attempt such an undertaking to give you relief from all the swirling pressures. So your darling son is bald now My niece, who is 21, just got a nose peircing Wait for it, he could be doing alot worse than removing hair
Suzi-you are feeling in control? Well done!! I feel like I am totally disconnected to everything going on, I'm just a zombie going through the motions. I hope your hubby brings you back something splendid from his trip abroad. Totally agree with you about carpet, give me tile and all that easily mopable flooring. With kids and pets it is a must.
