All go around here. Trying to sort the yard, meet all these stupid medical appointments, do the housework, keep the dog in check and keep up with some sick neighbours.
I had (as you know) the CT scan on my back which led to 3 'problems' for the doctor. A uterine fibroid, osteo arthritis in the spine and an ovarian cyst. So then I had the ultrasound on the pelvis and yesterday another on my aorta. So back and forth for medical appointments means nothing much gets done. I should just be grateful I don't have to pay for them I suppose. Thursday I get to go back to the doctor for the final results. The lovely lady doing the last ultrasound said that there wasn't much calcification of the aorta and she really doesn't know why I was there - she told me I would live. So I told the DS2 what was going on last night and will ring the DS1 after the last results are explained.
The neighbour across the road is back in hospital. Since they are the emotional European types - he's Spanish and she's Czech - it's a bit difficult to work out what is going on. He has been sick for a number of years and every Christmas she tells me it will be his last but he still hangs about. The reports of his imminent death are greatly exaggerated However he got taken away by the ambulance last week and I haven't seen him since. I will go over to see how she is and get the gossip later today.
My other neighbour from just in the next street has not been well for a while either. She has a bad back and yesterday said she had a headache which will confine her to bed for a couple of days, so I need to go see her today as well. Take her over some lunch and maybe dinner as well. She has some sort of hernia in the brain lining and it gathers fluid which presses on the brain. They put in a shunt some years ago which drains the water down into the body somewhere but apparently that doesn't seem to be working anymore and she is still getting hot flushes even though she went through menopause many years ago. It seems that her mother had them until she was 72. I consider myself very lucky to be spared that horror.
The kids are home from California. They seem to have enjoyed themselves immensely and despite some of the haphazard planning, only had one incident where they had to sleep in the car - that was on the way from Yosemite to Las Vegas. They ate too much and spent too much, loved San Francisco, and enjoyed themselves. DS2 said that the drive from SF to the Yosemite was glorious and they loved the Big Sur. They wished they had more time to take hikes around the park. I got the Oscar and a Pashmina scarf, ODDU got a new toy and they just want to eat normally again with light meals. So they have been having plain homecooked meals and last night we just had steamed veges with a bit of parmesan cheese and some chives. ODDU has his dad back again so he is not obeying me as much as he was. There is only one boss as far a he is concerned, so I have to work harder to get him to obey.
The garden is coming along well. Lettuces are up and running and we have a load of very small cherry tomatoes from the compost DS2 brought home from the farm. The spinach is growing, chard is growing and the potatoes are coming up. I planted bean seeds the other day, should start seeing them appearing in the next few days and I should be out there planting the corn today. The front garden is also coming along - now nearly weed free. Still have a bit of planting to do and the dry river bed to put in and that should be more or less done - after I have put in the watering system. The pipes are all there just have to add the sprinkler thingys now.
Today I have an appointment with the ear people. Not sure why I accepted this one. It is to do with battery and maintenance management on my hearing aids. However I will toddle along and so what happens. Then I checked in on an online advert about solar power the other day to see what sort of grant I would get from the government to put solar in the house. Of course it wasn't as simple as that, I now have to have someone come and give me a quote before I can get that piece of information. So today someone is coming out to try and persuade me to get their product. No doubt someone else will ring as well with the same information or lack there of and tell me why I should allow them to come onto my property and check out the place.
Dee - it is so stressful trying to find a new place to live. I sort of understand why there aren't as many properties on the market in the winter up your way. No one wants to go out in the cold and snow, however finding a house that is warm and dry would be one of my criteria for living up your way.
I'd love to see some of that Amish stuff at the market.
Susie - you tell the DH where's it is at! Go girl. I'm still working on the retirement bit and trying to sort out the money etc. I don't think he should retire on your money. Surely he can get something from SS? I haven't been to the movies for years. Never could sit still long enough to get through an entire movie. The back is fine thank you.
Annie - I'm sure you are champing at the bit to get back to doing things now. However take your time and use this time to rest and plan and see how you go. Sad about your daughter and her problems, so many marriages end like this and it is always the kids who suffer. Does the father visit his children or take them out for the day anytime?
Laura - sad that the refuge haven't replied to your donations and requests for receipts. It is hard for them to keep up on a volunteer basis I guess. We don't get tax relief from donations to charities here - at least not the tangible kind, only donations of money.
Happy - hope you are coping okay with that knee. Are you resting up as told and is it getting easier to move around? Remember, we will be walking when I get there!
Okay, better go get on with the day. Can't let it get away from me. Summer will be here before we know it and then it will be too hot to do anything. I had a call from a friend asking if I wanted to go back to work - I don't and certainly don't want Sydney again, although it would be nice to get the money. I've asked a few questions and will make a decision when the answers come back. The cats are sitting at one door, ODDU at another. They figure it is time to come inside again. I'd better go sort out today's plan.
Shad – Hope the final results from the ultrasound and other tests are minor/easily treatable, though that spine arthritis is worrying. Good to hear that there isn’t as much calcification as indicated earlier. I hope your neighbors can overcome their medical challenges! Yikes on the neighbor’s never-ending hot flashes! == You are busy as ever in the garden! == I’ll be interested in hearing more about the solar panels. I see a few of them in the neighborhood here and there, and one house even has them covering the entirety of their western expanse of their roof, almost like the roof itself. I always wonder how much they save on energy bills, or if they even make any money off the excess energy produced. == Thinking of another job already? I thought you’d be taking a longer break this time around…
Hellos to the rest of you!
==
Nothing much to report on my end. I received a response from the rescue stating their accounting volunteer will get me a receipt.
I was wholly lazy last night and didn’t go to a class or do a home workout. I watched tv, including what turned out to be the pilot episode of the old “Rockford Files” series. There’s just something about James Garner…

ok so here's how it is. knee is very swollen, tight and painful. I can get around on my own to get dressed and to the loo but can only tolerate 5 minutes of standing. I wake up every 30 minutes or less through the night from 10pm to 8am. Then I doze off during the day. DH is outside most of the time with the deck work. Cats are of no help. Not in a mood to post or have company. This better get better very soon.
Donna I'm soo very sorry about your pain
PLease phone your doctor about the pain, so they can give you a better RX & get a nurse to your home to check on you asap, to be safe that everything is normal with your healing progress.... When is your post-op check-up??? You shouldn't be suffering this painfully. Be like a baby & cry or scream until you get the attention & care that you deserve to sleep at night & are pain free, to allow your body to heal...
Joy I'm sorry for not being here recently & not knowing that you are having health problems also I put you in our daily prayers also yesterday. Sweet girl, I admire what a thoughtful heart you have to check on your neighbors during your own health issues. I Thank Jesus for making people like you, we need more 'Joy's' in our world...
Susie I'm sorry for the bad day you recently had. Did your Admin give you assistants for your workload, so you aren't slammed with holiday deadlines this fall/winter? I remember stress from my 2 businesses; my Interior Design clients & my sewing clients with many deadlines before the holidays, so I spoke to our local university for students to receive as apprentices college credit working for me. So if possible Delegate some of your work to others. About your Dh retiring at 62, I know who people who began a new job that they enjoy & not dreading work daily after they became retired. So although they retired from their long term job, they now enjoy working part-time as semi-retired like me. In a several yrs when I'm 65 I'll sign-up for soc.security. Your marriage & both of your health is what's important, if you both agree you can live with one income & it will solve any issues then try it, your Dh will still have the option to get another job. This isn't the 1970's when a man had to work until he became 65 yrs because he was the head of the home & marriage, unless he had a heart attack to retire early, but the girly wife could quit her job at anytime she wanted to be at home. Health & happiness are what matters, life can end in a car accident, stroke or heart attack tomorrow. Did you see Serena Williams on HSN & her v-neck cashmere quality sweater dress that fits flatters all figures with a bottom slit on each side & the knit fabric has stretch to look amazing if we have a weight loss or gain. It was on Tuesday HSN today's special $69, $20 off. She has a fashion design degree & her clothing style is wonderful, I have 3 from her line. She designs her clothing to make everyone look awesome from size x-small to size 3x. I should have text you to see it for career wear, a income tax write-off for you. Her clothing line was modeled on the runway at Fashion Week in New York. I don't know which department stores sell her line.
Laura You gotta be a city girl when you asked if river tubing is relaxing it's floating on the river Okay you go to a canoe/kayak livery on a river that also rents big tubes that you set into with your swimsuit on & do a river float to a pick-up point, area on that river. They have big passenger vans with a trailer to load the tubes, canoes, kayaks whatever you rent. The different pick-up areas have a average timed meeting from when you leave the livery & a driver will be there waiting to load up gear & take you back to your auto at the livery. There is normally 2 porta-jons between the pick-up areas & a picnic area that is rented from a land owner on the river for the paddlers to enjoy or a picnic area & porta-jon at the designated pick-up areas. When we did that years ago, we rent 2 extra tubes for drinks & food & 2 friends tied one of those picnic tubes to their tube. For several years now, we'll go on a float trip tubing on a river that a livery uses because we get a map from them & we know where the Jon's & picnic tables are located & we use our own tubes that we bought at Menard's & have friends drop us all off on the river near a livery after we parked our autos at a pick-up point, that way we have as much time as we want to float. Somebody usually gets hammered & somebody falls asleep & we're putting sunblock on everyone's neck & back. Some of the fun things are listening to friends different playlists with the music echoing across the water & watching fish & turtles watching us while they splash. We try to go tubing for a river float 1-2x every summer. The last time we used a livery was when we were camping across the Mackinac Bridge & we only took our boat & I wanted to kayak on a new river & we rented a tandem kayak for the first time. It was fun because we took turns paddling & playing in the water messing with each other I dozed off once while Dh was paddling.
Annie & Ceejay I'm going back to sleep now.

Good morning,
Off to get dressed for my first physical therapy appt. NOt looking forward to that. Not looking forward to getting down the stairs either. Worst thing is, I get night pain and it keeps me up all night long. Literally. Until about 6am so I'm sore and tired. I will check back in when DH brings me be IF I am awake.
Happy – So sorry to hear you’re uncomfortable and in pain! Assuming you haven’t already had a visit by a nurse, I agree with Dee – contact the doctor and see what can be done. As I recall, you said they gave you all your prescriptions upfront, probably in the standard dosages. They might need to tweak your meds and/or dosages.
Dee – Re the tubing - I suppose when I think of rivers, I think of rafting with rapids and whatnot (never done that either), so I thought there might be more “exciting” parts, LOL. What you described sounds like a lot of fun. === Re retirement – I think I agree with you about taking a new job with work that you enjoy and that reenergizes you, but not necessarily doing that after taking retirement (i.e., filing for SS). If you could get by on less money - one income, or one income plus SS, then it’s also possible to get by on two incomes, with one that’s lower than in the old job because it’s a job taken as a novice in a new field for the purpose of reduced stress, new experiences/challenges, or just plain enjoyment.
Hellos to the rest of you!

I did the BodyPump Express class last night at the Y. It was a half hour, and it was good. At some point I’ll get the hang of knowing how much weight to put on the barbells for the various parts of class. The instructor advises us – warm up weights, then increasing to 1.5 to twice the weight in another section of class, etc. As a newbie, though, it’s not easy to know how much is right for me in the various parts of class. Anyway…no soreness yet, but I expect it to develop during the day. Hopefully not too bad.
I’m about 11 hours into a 12-hour fast, and then I have my blood draw for my company’s wellness program. For now, just water.
Tonight I might do a light workout at home. I’ve also been intending to gather all the remaining receipts for Coal’s vet and rx expenses incurred since the last claim submitted and file a final claim under his veterinary insurance policy. I can at least gather the paperwork together tonight.
That’s it for me. Everyone have a great day and stay out of trouble!
I just have time for a 'quickie' post, but I wanted to see if there's any new posts from our 3 wounded Chicklets.
Happy~ I'm glad that you have a physical therapy appointment. Your therapist can give you good medical advice regarding your pain & range of motion, etc & you were probably given therapy homework to do daily to help your healing. Be kind to yourself & as I said before, let your Dh be your Prince & your hero & take care of everything for you. Men enjoy knowing we need all of their strengths. If he wants to carry you up or down stairs let him, let him pamper you during your recovery
Laura ~ All rivers have a current, the ones we always choose are medium speed being a little tippy, but not so fast that we'll flip over the kayaks or lose control of our tubes. If we see the river is moving fast we tie several of us/our tubes together, that's a fun short thrill ride & then we untie when the current feels comfortable again. Some friends took a river rapids rafting trip in W.Virginia & he sliced his leg & she sliced her arm & they went to Urgent Care for stitches. Their raft had 10 people in it & just 4 flipped against rocks getting hurt. Their rafting guide carried medical wraps for cuts & broken bones No-thanks, we'll pass on the river rapids rafting with scary boulders & rocks. Next Friday I have my yrly lab blood screen then I get my mamo screening, I'm not looking forward to the 12 hour fast or my boob squishing either. I wish we lived within a half hour so we could do some of your workout classes together. I'm sure you'd kick my butt at first, but I'm competitive so I never give up unless I get injured. You're really smart to build your muscle mass before winter hits. I try to get my muscles ready to do snow shoeing & x-country skiing which can be very physical.
My 'apologies to anyone who read my prior post' when I woke up at 12:30am this morning. I posted instead of getting into my fridge for pie. I'm sure that I typed many, grammar typos while being 'half awake' So I'm not going to read what I said, because I'll feel for posting while being sleepy. But posting Saved me from eating a slice of raspberry pie that I made yesterday, probably 1,000 calories...
I gotta get back to work now, I have a sewing job for a pregnant office manager

Hi Everyone, been working over a bit the past two nights. It just has to happen sometimes. I am trying to keep it to no more than 5 hrs a week if that.
Thanks for all your support of my rant. When DH retired it wont be on my money totally, he has the option to start pulling from his 401K or take his Social Security. He is one of those who can do that at 62.
Dee: your raffting sounds fun. And I see you are still making your beautiful clothes for others.
I understand about not looking forward to that yearly checkup.
Glad to hear you were able to pass by that late night snack.
Joy: Wow! You sure put out a lot of garden items! You must enjoy gardening and reaping that benefits of your labor. I think that is cool.
It sounds like you received good news on the heart calcification. Any word on the cyst and the fibroid?
Anne: praying for no pain and complete healing when you go get that ankle checked out. Are you feeling ready to go back to work?
Happy, I am wondering how the therapy went and how the pain leveal is? I am hoping and praying for it to not be too bad going forward.
Laura: it sounds like you like thos body pump class. Soon you will be looking buff since you have added the weight training there and with your body bar workout.
It is good you heard back from the shelter about the items you donated of Coals.
Ceejay: how was mowing the yard? Is that something you did at your apartment. Do you like to mow? My DH loved it.
I need to get the dishwasher emptied and refill it and I will head to bed soon so I can get some sleep. I worked a symposium event today and had to be there by 7 am.. for me that meant on the road at 6 and getting up at 4:45 tonget ready. I am a bit worn out.
I had a small loss at tops tonight, .50 lbs i was ok with it as I stayed the same last week.
Happy – I hope you got something good out of the PT appointment yesterday, maybe some good advice from the therapist to help with the pain.
Dee – Okay, so I wasn’t off base about there being some more “exciting” parts of a tubing trip. But I would definitely want a gentle current for that type of activity. Now, rafting sounds sort of scary. My parents did that once when they were well into their 50’s, and it wasn’t what they expected, especially how cold the water was (spring snowmelt/runoff) and how wet they got! Re exercise classes – I’m generally too focused on keeping up with the instructor to be worried about other students in class, but it certainly would be motivating to have a workout buddy. I’ve never had that, except in an online sense. Re muscle mass – it’s not a seasonal thing, but I just want to get more muscle so my metabolism gets a boost!
Susie – I’m glad there are options for your dh so he can retire (or cut back on work). A former co-worker of mine is getting fed up with his work environment and is considering quitting and starting to draw on his 401k funds when he gets to age 59.5 (when he can do it without penalties). Hey, a loss is a loss, so goodonya! (Shad, did I get that right?) I'm glad you're limiting your work hours.
Annie – I hope you are feeling better now that you’ve had a few weeks of recovery. I bet you can’t wait for that follow-up appointment!
Ceejay – I imagine you’re still busy getting settled in and enjoying your retirement.
Hi Shad!
--
I had the blood draw yesterday and the email linking me to the results was waiting for me this morning. All is good. Two out of range items – my total cholesterol, but that’s okay since my HDL (“the good one”) is very high, and that’s a good thing. The other is WBC, which I assume is white blood cell level. Dunno what elevates that if it’s not something serious.
I didn’t do anything yesterday after work. Lazy me. Oh wait, I did inflate the tires on my bike when I got home. Not a complete sloth night.
I didn’t sleep well and kept having odd dreams. We’ll see how I feel as the day goes on.
Nothing planned for tonight.
I have a book on hold to pick up at the library this weekend. I'm meeting a former co-worker for breakfast tomorrow morning. Tomorrow night is the annual dinner/auction fundraiser for the lab rescue.
That’s about it for me. Everyone have a great weekend, or continue having one!
Feeling better daily but have come down with a bad head cold. Recovery just sucks as far as additional issues. First. Three broken ribs then a UTI now this head cold. Yes I am ready to go back to work for a minute. Pray for great healed X-rays so I can at least boot walk without the knee scooter.
Happy. Hugs and healing. It does get better. Time. How was PT?
Dee. Any luck finding a new place to live?
Ceeg. How's the new home. Thought your BIL was going to take care of the lawn?
Laura. Glad you found a class at the Y you like.
Chelle. WTH. Get back in here girl.
Shaddie. Welcome home to all the misfits. lol. Happy gardening.
Susie. Thank you for the prayers. Stop working so hard. Good job on WL
Bout it for me. We are having one heck of a storm at the moment. Grand dog is trying to get on my lap.
I love having a deck as I like to be outside. Getting more unpacking done. Finally got my paychecks in the
mail. Woo-hoo. Hope our sick people get better
Blessed rain overnight. Should have the gardens up and hopping again. Rainwater always does better than tap water in the garden. Don't think it was very heavy though.
Dog and his lord and master are going out for the day to the farm. Poor ODDU didn't get a walk on Friday mainly because I thought DS2 was coming back from his errands to take him out - and he didn't - so I didn't either. Yesterday I thought the DS2's partner would take him out and but no...........she sat on the couch with that bloody phone for an hour or more then disappeared off to the gym and the hairdresser. Then they DS2 and partner went out together for an hour (and took three) which meant that the dog was getting very antsy and uncontrollable. He needs the exercise and I told them to take him out before they did anything else like going to the movies and dinner for the evening. They took him to the dog park which made him bearable overnight. He's not my dog, much as I love him, and I shouldn't have to look after him during weekends as well as during the week. Nor should the neighbours have to put up with him barking because no one is around to entertain him. Okay, rant over, I will get back to being nice.
Dee - thanks for the concern over my health. So far despite all the doom and gloom at the doctors, they haven't been able to pin down anything serious. I have little doubt that the next test for the thickening of the uterine wall will be any different. It's not even in the dangerous category. The ultrasound lady was right - there is very little calcification of the Aorta so there is nothing to be done for that. Now it is just waiting for the health system to make an appointment for the gynaecologist and me to get together. I have little doubt that it will be okay as well. If not, then we will face that one when it comes. I don't have a problem if they want to take out the entire uterus, or just parts of it. It isn't performing any function anymore - and who knows I may lose some weight without it!
Glad to hear that you are getting some work sewing. It all helps. Just don't overdo it and send yourself back down the spiral again.
Annie - Sorry you are feeling under the weather. No doubt your system is all jangled up inside with operations, drugs and inactivity which is why you have caught the cold. Hoping that all is well after the next visit and you can go back to work and some normality again.
Laura - White blood cell count can mean a simple infection of some sort and who knows whether you are in the 'normal range' anyway. It really irks me that medics think we are all the same. We are as far as having certain organs and bones but some body types are outside the range and this should be taken into account IMHO. I really get antsy when I am grouped with all the rest of humanity Hope your breakfast went okay and you enjoyed catching up with friends.
Susie - Congrats on your loss. A loss is a loss is good. Hope the DH has got his moods sorted now and can see the way forward. I know his dilemma because I have been there too. Still have some way to go to complete retirement but I am getting there. The fact that I don't want to go back to work really is indication enough that I am pretty much ready for this.
Happy - hoping that the pain has eased up some for you. Take it slowly. It is not going to happen overnight. You body has taken a beating so you need to push through it and hopefully come out the other side all well and HAPPY again. Meantime let the other half show his caring nurturing side. You will both benefit from that.
Okay, better get on with the day - it is the only way that the things on my list will get crossed off. I spent most of Friday dusting, cleaning, washing, and mopping. So the house looks reasonable but it is never finished because as soon as it is done, it becomes undone as most of you will know. Since it is raining, I will have to reschedule the garden work and get on with the cleaning, clearing, mopping work. I did a test on Facebook yesterday which tells me I am a total OCD. There it was on Facebook so it must be right - right? It is all my mothers fault with her bloody vacuum cleaner at 9.00 every morning. I am supposed to Skype my friend in Arizona today, but that might be put off until later tonight or during the week when there isn't people around and dogs are not barking. The ways we keep in touch.
Everyone is obviously busy. Not much to report here either - the rain has gone although it is still cloudy and I can now get outside and mow the grass and trim up the hedge. Done the bedrooms this morning. Taken the dog for a walk and been shopping for cat food etc. Always something to do.
Been getting quotes about solar power installation. So far they range from $4K to 10K. And I have been getting some high pressure salesmanship which is raising my blood pressure. Someone will cop the lot soon. I asked for a quote, that doesn't mean I will accept yours, pay you a deposit and get the thing installed without doing some research on your company and getting at least three other quotes dumbo. I don't care how big your company is or how good you think you are. It's my hard earned money and I am not letting it loose without some consideration.
Dog went out to the farm yesterday and he came home dog-tired and very dirty/ smelly. He got a shower and washed with wool wash. He apparently is not fond of the perfume! On our walk today he found every puddle, mud bath and smelly bit of grass as well as every loose leaf on the track. He might need another was soon. There is nothing gentle about that dog.
Trying to debate what to have for dinner tonight. DS2 is on night shift so if I don't want to cook two sets of dinners, I have to do something that can be re-heated. Maybe some steamed vegetables with some sort of sauce and I have some lamb steak out of the freezer. Might use one of those for him. Partner J doesn't get in until around 6.30 - he has to be at work by 7.00 on the other side of town.
The Carnival of Flowers is on at Toowoomba this week. I was going up with the neighbour, but she is pleading poverty and not going. So maybe I will go by myself, maybe I will save some pennies and fly down to Canberra for Floriade at the end of the month. That's the Tulip and spring festival in the nations capital. www.tcof.com.au if you want to check it out. Should be spectacular.
Check out Floriade at www.floriadeaustralia.com/
Okay, might be time to go and get in the washing, get out the lawnmower and get on with the chores. See ya
