Good Morning, Flowers! The sun is shining brightly, the wind is blowing, and it's a cool 24 degrees in my corner of the world this morning. We are suppose to have temperatures in the 50s and 60s for the next few days. I just hope we aren't having our April weather now and "spring" won't happen again this year. My plan for the day is to continue the dusting and vacuuming routine.
Maggie -- Our neighbors grow tomato plants in big flower pots and have great luck with them. He turns them if one side isn't getting enough sun; I kid him about talking to them too. Did your dog groomer move that you are going to start doing it yourself? You may find the dog kit when you are looking for something else, or have replaced it. That has happened to me more than once.
"Gma" -- Good luck at your appointment today! I hope you get good answers to all of your questions. You are wise to have them written down. How scary to find a dead body! I wonder if "they" will ever find out who it was, what happened, or where he came from. There are 11 or 12 bell ringers, plus the director, depending on how many bells we are using at the time. We are lacking a couple bells for having a 5 octave range. They are the big bells which cost $300 - $500+ a piece, plus having to buy the cases to keep them in.
I came upstairs to get dressed and take another load of laundry downstairs so better get it done. Have a terrific Thursday and enjoy your day!
Good afternoon, ladies! Sunshine and 70 degrees. Sandal weather - I love it.
Yesterday was Glory's birthday and we went to dinner at Happy Belly to celebrate. I had some lovely fresh flounder, broccoli and salad.
My friend Sandy was a contract worker at Ft. Eustis and the government is now doing away with contractors so she was informed her job is going away as of the end of the week. She's 62 so jobs are so easy to find. The army has hired all retired Army personnel to replace the contract workers (at a considerable savings since they aren't paying the contractors a big premium).
Tomorrow is quilt guild so that means lunch with the ladies afterwards.
I added more weight at the gym yesterday and can really feel it all over my body today. No pain, no gain!
Faye, your email has once again been hacked. It could also be a trojan horse on your computer that sends emails every few weeks. I hope your doc answered all your questions.
Jean, when I win the lottery, I'll buy those bells for your church and come to hear you play them...LOL. I'm going to get some tomatoes in pots this year. Nothing better than fresh tomatoes. The trees and beginning to leaf out and I'm sneezing my head off - so what's new about that.
Maggie, I've looked all over the house for something only to find it in the first place I looked in plain sight. Usually I have the color or container wrong in my head.
Have a lovely day, ladies! I'm going for my walk this afternoon.
They have taken the snow off the forecast and there is no either in sight. The temperature today is 44º’s as I type and fixin’ to get up to 52º’s before this windy day is over. The rest of the week looks about the same.
I think we have just about decided to do some container gardening and buy other things at the two places that sell fresh produce from local farmers during the week if we need more to eat or dry for future use during the winter months. Last year we were watching a few tomatoes that were getting almost ripe enough to pick and when we got back from somewhere we went they were gone. Someone availed themselves of those tomatoes we were babying along when they saw the Jeep was not around. What the weather didn’t kill the thief stole. No one has taken anything up closer to the house ~ yet. Hopefully we can protect our containers if we have them closer to the house. We can put the corn and other large plants out in the garden plot and hopefully they won’t get fried for we will shelter them with that garden cloth.
Wow it is finally silent. Ever since I got up I have been hearing the man across the streets chain saw as he cuts up an old tree he sawed down. It will make his yard look nicer for sure. He keeps his yard nice and clean and neat all the time and that is what we see out of our front picture window. He likes his flowers and that is to our benefit also for we get to enjoy them when we have our drapes drawn.
I have in a crock pot dinner this day a roast and veggies. Will has museum work this afternoon then a board meeting at “first call” till about 6-ish. Just me and the animals home this afternoon. I am sure I can find enough to do this to keep myself out of mischief.
JEAN No the dog groomer isn't moving but the prices are going up and we want to be prepared to do the dogs anyway when we move to Texas out in the country. We used to always container garden when living in smaller places like in our motor home. Will said to forget trying to find that dog kit for we have exhausted looking everwhere by now. We will buy all new up to date articles to get the job done when the time comes.
DONNA FAYE We take the dogs in twice a month ~ once for just a bath for $35 and the other time for a hair cut and bath for 65. Doesn't sound like much but it does when we think of when Will retires so we want to be prepared to be able to do "things that we can" to save money. Plus in the warmer weather we may just want to bath the dogs and take them in once a month for their hair cuts or atempt to cut it ourself. Just depends. I hope you get all your questions ansered when you go to the doc tomorrow. Great thing to do to write your questions down beforehand so you don't forget anyting you want answers for.
SUSAN So I don't forget the color number I tear off the lid part with the number on the box. If I don't do that Will is apt to get me various different shades of light brown each time. Looks like the Army is slimming down to meet its new budget restraints. The contractors are always the first to be let go. Hopefully your friend can find a new position soon for she is too young to retire just yet. What is so odd is that in my minds eye I can see that grooming kit sitting on the top shelf in this office's closet. I have no clue as to the "why or when" it was moved. Nada.
All y'all have a wonderful day this day. Type at y'all later.
It is currently 57º’s here in the ♥-Land and a clear rather calm day. They do say that we currently have just a 40% chance of some much needed rain come Sunday. I hope it does materialize to be 100% for we will be so thankful.
Since it is such a nice still day we will be grilling a tri-tip and some French bread and have a nice green tossed salad for the evening meal. I am having a nice lunch of cuties and jerky even as I type. Actually it is my breaking my fast for it is my first meal of the day.
The animals are enjoying being outside where Will is doing some work. All is quiet in the neighborhood. Next week they will be digging a trench down the alley road to install new gas lines so that will have all the neighborhood dogs barking and barking. The man across the street cut out all his bushes around his house and we are now waiting to see what he plants instead.
Hope all of you are having a lovely day. I am off to do something that needs to be done. Everybody have a lovely afternoon.
Good Afternoon, Flowers! The sun has been shining ALL day, the wind has been blowing ALL day, and the thermometer says it is 50 degrees outside. It would be wonderful if the wind would go blow somewhere else! I worked in the gift shop this morning and didn't sell anything, not even to myself! I had some brochures to cut and fold so that kept me busy along with my magazines that I donate. This afternoon I spent time with tech support while they dumped one virus program and installed another one on my PC. I like to sit at home and watch while they work from their office! I've lost a file (I think) on my laptop and can't find it; I asked if I could bring it in for someone to help me, so will do that Monday. Other than that I've accomplished nothing but a load of wash that I need to put in the dryer.
Susan -- I can hardly remember what 70 degree weather feels like! I always smile when you mention eating at Happy Belly! I think that is such a unique name for a restaurant. I hope that Sandy is able to find another job; some say that they like the older workers because they aren't having babies and are so much more dependable than the younger generation. I noticed there are some green flowers sprouting at church as they are in a protected area away from the wind. It's still pretty cold around here! The robins are back in full force this week.
Maggie -- I'm thinking something grilled sounds good for supper. Bob ate lunch with his farmer friend so I have no clue how hungry he will be. I ate a muffin at the coffee shop while I was "working" this morning so I am hungry. It's nice to hear the sounds of spring happening outside as long as it doesn't drag into sleep time.
We are heading to Sioux Falls tomorrow for Ian's Pinewood Derby competition. I do hope he wins something since Jason did. Jason still has his cars so I'm anxious to see what Ian's car is like. They were going to race against each other to see who had the faster car.
"Gma" -- I'm wondering how you are doing. You are missed!
I'm going to change into comfy clothes and figure out something for supper. Enjoy your evening!
Afternoon girls. I have been so busy trying to get everything done and then having the dr appt on Thurs. I got all the answers I needed from my gyn and it is pretty good news. It looks like the meds should take care of the problem once and for all. I just have a thick endometrial lining that has to be thinned. It is what is causing the problems.
I finished up cleaning house, packed my bag, made ff blueberry muffins for breakfasts and froze them for when I come back home, we shampooed the living room carpet so I think we are now all set. Jay will be in tomorrow early evening and we are all going to have dinner together.
Maggie: We too have been working vigorously so that when Jack retires we know what expenses we will have, etc. We are certainly luckier than most because Jack will be getting 2 pensions besides his SS. I am not going to draw mine if we don't need it as I didn't work my whole adulthood so the amount is puny.
Susan: I hope Glory had a nice birthday. Sounds like you guys had a nice dinner together. You would have thought that they would have at least given the contract workers more notice that they were being replaced. I mean talk about pulling the rug out from under you. I do hope she can find herself another job. Age and the economy are certainly against her.
Jean: It rained all day yesterday and the temp went from 74 down to 44 in about 3 hours and it was chilly this morning but great this afternoon. I haven't been out at all today as I was too busy trying to get the house and everything else done. My azaleas are gorgeous this year. They have really spread out and are beautiful pristine white flowers. Our dogwood trees have bloomed already as have the tulip trees and the magnolia trees are coming along too. That only means one thing....nutso squirrel will be back driving us crazy soon.
I am doing fine, a little anxious of course, but now that I have everything done, I can sit and relax tomorrow and Sunday to prepare for Monday morning. I am pretty tired though so I imagine I will go to bed early. You gals have a great weekend. Faye
"Gma" -- I was glad to see your post tonight! I somehow knew you would be doing last minute things so as to have everything ship shape for Monday. Good luck and I hope you are back with us soon!
Good Morning, Flowers! The sun is shining and it appears as though it is going to be a warmer day today, in spite of the wind. I'm waiting for a florist, in MN, to open at 9:30 so I can order something for a funeral. The deceased would be my half-aunt by marriage. She has been on dialysis because of diabetes, and she chose to stop because of the side effects. She was only 70. My uncle died a few years ago and we haven't seen her, nor kept in touch, since then. Anyhow, it's an 8 hour drive from here and we won't be going to the funeral on Monday.
I need to get dressed -- 90th birthday open house at 1:30, will stop at Beth's to return Kolby's forgotten gloves, and on to Sioux Falls. It's going to be a long day since the Pinewood Derby doesn't start until 6.
I hope you all have nice weather and a great weekend!
I think my brain has been AWOL this week, or at least super tired! First of all I forgot a meeting Monday night but the lady I take with me called to see if I was going. Then I forgot about working in the gift shop Friday so was a half hour late getting there. Today we get to the church for the birthday open house only to find no other cars there. Came home and double checked the invite in our church messenger and it's next Saturday! To top it off, Ian has the flu so we aren't going to Sioux Falls after all. Jason has to run the computer so he's hoping he can put Ian's car in the competition. The boys line them up against a board so they don't actually hang on to the car waiting for a start. We felt so bad for Ian since this was his first Pinewood Derby. Bob just left to get some window cleaning supplies and I'm back in my jeans doing laundry.
It is a beautiful day here in the ♥-Land this day. The temperature is 59º’s and the wind isn’t blowing. You read that right ~ the wind isn’t blowing. They say there is still a 40% chance that we will get that much needed rain tomorrow within some thunder storms ~ so come on rain, for we would surely welcome your arrival. They say we have a chance ~ well I’ll take my chances.
Don't forget to set your clocks ahead tonight if they don't do it automatically for tomorrow Daylight Savings Time begins. I know my computer automatically sets itself.
On this still beautiful day we will be BBQ-ing a tri tip that we couldn’t get cooked earlier in the week. I still have some nice tomatoes and I will fix those with some cottage cheese on a lettuce bed.
Not much going on today out of the ordinary to speak of. Last night I was glad that I was able to help fix Will’s computer. The key pad froze and he couldn’t type a thing in his word program or anywhere else for that matter. The fix for that is to restart your computer and then press all the keys on the keyboard but make sure you press the caps lock, scroll/num lock then try to press as much of the other keys as possible until the “welcome” screen pops up. Viola it works. Try that if it ever happens to you to save some money from taking it to the fix it folks. I’ll never tell you how I learned that ~ but you can imagine.
AH my sugar free fat free vanilla latte has arrived and I am a happy camper. Get my espresso fix and I am ready to tackle what comes my way. I still sip them out of my cup touted to be the best when I got it and wouldn’t you know Hammacher Schlemmer has come out with a new version that is even better, so you know who has to have one. I depend on these folks to find such things for me for they do all the research and testing of many of models. When I order that coffee container I will also order a set of 4 cold maintaining stainless steel drink-ware. They are 12-oz capacity with a brushed exterior and are dishwasher safe. In their test they prevented ice from melting 45-105 minutes longer than single wall plastic, ceramic, or glass cups. They will be lovely to drink iced tea out of this summer. I am a slow sipper and that will be wonderful having the ice stay so long.
JEAN OOps ~ you have had one "fun filled" day so far with all those missed dates. I thought the boys build pine wood cars they got in and raced. Are they just smaller models they race? I am confused as you can see. The derbies we did when we were kids we actually built our cars and got in them and off we went to the finish like.
Oh ~ big sigh ~ I need to get some things done like putting spice on the tri tip would be one thing. I sent Will to the basement to see if we have any baked beans I can jazz up. I always try to fry up some green peppers and onions to add to a can of them. If I don't have any fresh bell peppers I can get some out of the freezer that I have chopped and frozen.
Good Afternoon, Flowers! We went to church in sunshine, but the sun has since disappeared while the never ending wind continues to blow. The computer says it is 53 degrees and it does smell sort of like spring outside. We are having chicken, potatoes and gravy, and salad for lunch. Bob is fixing my bathroom faucet and has to go after a part so dinner will be ready when he gets back. I'm so thankful he can fix things. My project this afternoon is to take everything out of the curio cabinet, wash them and the glass shelves, a project I dislike and do rarely. I'm having craft club on Thursday and card club next Monday night -- planned it that way.
Maggie -- If I ever have that computer problem I will call you first! The other day my internet wouldn't work so I called the isp and the tech said to unplug the computer, modem, and router then plug them all back in. I did that and it still didn't work. So I called the place where we bought the computer and he asked which I plugged back in first, which was the modem. It should be the router and then it worked just fine. I don't know what the glitch was but glad it was a simple fix. I know what kind of race you are talking about but I don't know if it is still held or not; not sure if it part of scouting either. It was held in Ohio when we lived out there. What Ian's was was to get a block of plain wood, the wheels, and the nails for the wheels in a box. He had to carve out a car, sand it, paint it, and weight it so it would run down the track. His other grandpa does wood working so he helped shape it. Jason and Ian painted it and put the wheels on. Jason did run it and said it would have taken 2nd place for Ian's den, and 3rd over all the dens together if Ian would have been there. We felt so bad for Ian, but he is feeling much better today.
"Gma" -- Good luck tomorrow! I'll be thinking of you!
My dinner should be just about done so I'm off. Enjoy the rest of your day!
It is a gloomy 36ºs this day with a 40% chance of storms. Sure wish we could get some rain. AH but tomorrow they say it will climb to 77ºs and be that or higher the rest of the week. I certainly do hope that we don’t jump right into Summer like we did last year without any nice Spring weather.
We had a real nice couple visit at church this day from down south that are traveling out west for their vacation. She works for the university and he is a peace officer where they live so we had a lively conversation over lunch. I had grilled shrimp over rice and a baked sweet potato without any of the brown sugar and butter they serve on them and a green salad which I dipped my fork into the dressing I did use ~ which was just a tad bit.
I didn’t sleep well at all last night for there must have been a stray cat in the yard for it got Cecil meowing loudly and the dogs barking several times ~ seems like just when I got to sleep they would start up again. Then it was a short night due to the seasonal clock change. I never take naps but it sure is tempting to do so right now for I am sleepy, I won’t nap though, for I won’t sleep well tonight, I am afraid, if I get that started. I’ll keep sipping my sf ff latte and hopefully that will perk me up.
My electric toothbrush would not turn on this morning so I had to use it like a conventional brush. Bummer, it had been on the charger but just would not turn on. I got my teeth brushed but I sure like my electric so much better for doing that job. Looks like that will be on the shopping list now for Tuesday. I can deal till then.
JEAN I am glad that Ian is feeling better and sorry he missed his race. I amagine that your cabined really doesn't need to be so thoroughly cleaned often since the doors keep the dust out for the most part. Really, no one would even notice the dust unless they picked something up and saw the clear spot beneath what ever it was they picked up. I am by no means a whiz at figuring out computer problems but knew that from an episode that happened. I remember the last problem I had I didn't have to take this computer in he fixed the problem over the wires. I let him enter in my computer from their shop. He looked around in it and fixed the problem. It was weird sitting here watching things being done and my not touching a thing.
It is currently 51º’s and sunny here in the ♥-Land and will get up to 77ºs this day. Looks like summer arrived with the time change instead of spring. There isn’t a cloud to be seen in the beautiful blue sky. We are definitely going to have to garden in pots that can be moved out of the hot sun or be given some sort of shade.
I sure slept good last night for the dogs were quiet and nothing disturbed my slumber. All the neighborhood dogs are now sounding off for they are workers are in the alley. It is a chorus of small, medium, and large dogs singing. Not a bad sounding chorus. ♪♪
I showed a pound down at the iron monster this day which is definitely in the right direction. I have no where but to go “down” now for I refuse to go up, up, and up. Realistically that won’t happen because my system does show an occasional “up” at the scale even when I think I have had a good week. I’ll just keep on this road to thin the best way I am able.
I think this will be a left-overs eating day. We have some good things in the fridge that need to be consumed or dumped. A nice roast sandwich sounds good for lunch. That tri-tip we BBQed was so tough it was mostly chopped up and given to the dogs. We have never run across such a tough piece of meat as that tri tip was. That piece would have been a candidate for the crock-pot. We can only hope the next one we get isn’t that way.
All you wonderful Magnolias have a great day. Type at y’all later.
Good Afternoon, Flowers! The sun has been in and out all day, and the wind continues to blow! We are supposed to have warmer temps this week also -- 60s and 70s. That makes me wonder what April is going to be like. When I got to church this morning the secretary was looking a little green around the edges and said she didn't feel good. I told her to go home, and not touch anything on her way out the door! I ended up staying most of the morning which wasn't my plan for the day! Now I need to take my laptop in and see if the tech whizzo can find what I saved and lost a file "somewhere" in the innards.
Maggie -- on losing another pound! Way to go! It's too bad we can't just wish the weight away! Hope you have a new electric toothbrush by now. I used to have one but don't have a good place to put one now. I might have to work on that project because I know how much I liked the way my teeth felt extra clean afterwards. Sorry about your tough meat; I've had that happen too.
I'm hoping Faye's surgery is over by now and she is on the downhill side of the process.
I'm off with my laptop! Enjoy the rest of your day!
We ended up going out for lunch for Will wanted Mexican food so we went to our favorite place. I had one shredded beef taco, a shredded beef small burrito and some rice and of course some of those wonderful chips and hot salsa dip. I'll go easy on dinner ~ probably some leftovers of that roast.
JEAN I'll get a new electric toothbrush tomorrow when we do some shopping. The bathroom I keep mine in has a plug in just below a cabinet so I keep my tooth brush, when not in use, in its charger on a shelf in a closed cabinet above the sink and it stays plugged in conveniently. Works for me. My teeth miss that electric brush today. I like having that plug in there for I also currently have a nice smelling room freshener pluged into it. A woodsie smelling one as apposed to a flower type one. I hope your tech can find your file. "They say" everyting always stays on a computer so it is in there somewhere. Remember that old saying that "if wishes were horses than beggers would ride". Well ~ I would ride that horse and beg that my extra weight was gone.
Have a wonderful afternoon ~ it is in the high seventies here this day.
