Laura - I was really surprised that DMIL and our friends gave DH such a bad time about V-Day dinner. They do know how sick he's been and how lousy he's still feeling. I know there will be plenty of time once he's feeling better to have a special night out. So nice that your bf gave you flowers! So "War Horse" was pretty graphic in terms of human and animal brutality? I might have to skip it then. I hope the meeting goes well. Have fun at Pilates.

Good morning ladies,

I sort of pushed DH into going to dinner yesterday and I wish I had taken his suggestion of pizza instead. Of course the steak places were all booked up - not that I wanted steak. I had suggested a Scandanavian diner chain here that has lighter meals and supposedly great pie but he nixed that. We wound up going to a place we frequent but their food is quickly going downhill. They make a great broiled cod which is what I should have gotten or even the salmon special. Instead I got fried shrimp and DH got bbq ribs and we shared entrees with each other. The ends of the ribs were very dry and the shrimp was greasy. I don't know what possessed me to get hash browns - probably because the only other option was mashed potatoes (which were so so the last time I had them) or french fries. It was a too fried meal for me and I didn't really enjoy it, nor did he. I could have made a better meal of coconut shrimp at home. He gave me a really sweet card with a personal note that meant more to me than any gift could. It's actually nicer - less pressure - since we decided to stop exchanging gifts and instead we agree on a mutual thing. Of course if there's something we really want - like my bug hat and bug pants for working outside - we just get it on our own. 40 years with this man and I still don't know what to buy him.

And it's not such a big deal coloring my own hair - she says since she can't see the back of her head  - I have to admit that it's easier going darker then it was doing my hair when I was a blond. I would miss the darker roots in the back and never get them quite right. Also my hair would get fried because the salon stuff is much gentler on one's head. Although I think they have come a long way with the boxed stuff. I'm still not sure about the highlights - that I think I can screw up royal so I'm giving myself a few days to think about it. I figure if nothing else, I can leave the highlights on for only 5 minutes to just lighten a few strands. It would cost me anywhere from $125 to $200 to go to a salon so that's why I decided to color it myself. I could justify a twice a year special trip there for them to fix up my mistakes  My hair is more than 50 percent gray on top and about 25 percent underneath. I'm not vain but the gray just makes it look like I have even less hair than I do and that's the part I'm vain about :D I don't know how it came about that I turned into an old bag

Laura - thanks for the movie review. We might check out that movie when it comes to our little theater in town. I don't know that much about WWII either. Once the weather broke and there was a hint of fresh spring air in the air, I actually liked walking to the train and downtown to the office too. The roses sound quite pretty too. Happy Birthday Coal :hb: are you having a party or just tea and cookies? :cofdate:

Michelle - bummer that people were giving DH a hard time about taking you out. That's between the 2 of you. And he has been so wiped out lately. You can make it up later if you like. That's pretty interesting - how did you wind up with yellow hair? Was it that mustard conditioner? Actually some of the blond colors can be tricky. I hope you manage to get some extra rest and avoid catching any cold. Have you started with your new group yet or are you still mostly doing training? Or did you say you were trying to decide what your next step would be?

Annie - beautiful gorgeous earrings you got from Curtis. What a lovely surprise. I'm glad you found happiness with someone who loves you as hard as you can love back. We'd better keep up with the harsher thread titles because you seem to be on cloud nine these last few month ;) How was the Japanese steak place? As for White Castle - there is a running joke about that with me and DH. I personally love them - got a box in the freezer right now. DH will not go there. The few times we drove by he would make a silly excuse about why they were not open - funny enough that I would laugh and laugh. I have to sneak them in when I go visit my sister as there is one just down the road. I never did get to try the southern version of them - Krystals. I would have considered fresh Sliders a real treat :D Did you get enough cleaning done to make your day off worthwhile?

Shad - thank you for passing along the Mel update. This is really taking her down for the count. I'm almost afraid to say anything that will get her to laughing too much. I might pass up the vodka and instead have a glass of wine unless you have to pick it up and drink it in your room. Then you'd have to down the whole bottle at once - especially if you are partial to red wines - and that might not be so good. But if you can have one glass, it might relax you. Not that there is more than a smidge of vodka in the drink, it could be contributing to the crazy dreams - although maybe you are just worried about DS losing more things and your unfinished castle  I admit to using the Nyquil cold medicine to help me sleep through the night but that's not a good habit to get into either. It stinks when the sleep gets interupted - especially since the class might notice if the teacher falls asleep at the lecturn  I would think being on the road and sleeping in many different places would tend to be disruptive too. Or maybe you are posting too close to Annie and her insomnia is rubbing off ...

Hi Ceejay and Mary

I need to tackle the clutter mess on the table - been saying I would do that for days. Now I need to make good on it. Have a good hump day ladies.

annie175 02-15-2012 01:54 PM

Hidee Ho...

Working on the closets...only have two of them done, but then again I only had 3 to do in the first place...HOWEVER last but not least....my walk in closet...blahhhh....Curtis is taking a nap at the moment...been asleep for about an hour...he is about to have a rude awakening with my closet expedition. lol

Going to Sissy's tonight. She is coloring my hair (it has been 4 weeks already)..shueweee where does time go??? She is also cutting Curtis's hair. Not for free however...I am making my homemade pizza and breadstix to take over and cannot decide what to do with the apples yet. We shall see. I may even take a salad as I have all the fixings for that too!. One load of laundry washed, dried, and hung/folded. Got another in the washer now. Really also need to do a load of towels...amazing how you can go to bed with an empty laundry basket and wake up to a full one...I think it is the gnomes...the same gnomes that still one sock of each pair..lol No wait...if it is stealing it would be the nasty ole trolls....they are so bad...yes I am talking nutty....and laughing my $ss off....hahahahah...all the while of enjoying a bloody Mary made with low sodium V8 juice. Yes, that justifies it. haha

HAPPY....we call White Castle's GUT BOMBERS...I personally love them but cannot handle them...I can count on spending the next day in the bathrrom especially if I get the onion chips with them...OMGoodness...haha. Sorry to hear you VD dinner rather sucked. I hate settling for anything especially food. I tell you what...next time you go south...stop here in INDY and visit with me...sissy will do your hair for cost of product and whatever/or nuttin' you might like to tip. She works for food...literally...bring a pie...haha. I take over dinner on hair night.

SHADDIE...thanks for keeping us updated on Mellie. I miss her crazy posts. Sorry you cannot sleep, I know EXACTLY how you feel...I am up most nights and have taken to posting on 3FC with you girls lately. Try melatonin (natural herb), it does work...hey...maybe I should listen to myself...lol....don't know if it would be compatible with my anti-depressant.

LAURA...thanks for the review of War Horse...Curtis wants to see it..maybe I can tolerate it. I am not much into war movies or death and destruction. I think maybe after the beautiful earrings, I should probably give on this one...lol. I got him an expensive men's cologne, but no where compares to what he got me...kind of feel badly about it.

CHELLE...glad you enjoyed your VD and did not expose DH to more peeps or cr*p. Did you know one of the most germiest things is menus at restaurants. Research even showed fecal matter on them. I have hand santizer in my purse so after ordering, I use the hand sanitizer. Freaky that way, I am. I even have gotten Curtis and my Dad using it now. Better safe than sorry....

MELLIE...I love ya chickie and pray you are better and better each day...xoxo

CEEJAY...hope you day is going great....

Gotta get busy, got another closet to clean and pizza/breadstix to make....have a wonderful day/evening/night.

Loves and hugs.

Laura705 02-15-2012 02:55 PM

Michelle - Actually, I wouldn't say the movie was graphic. When I said that one realizes how horrible the war was for humans and animals, it was just a reflection of me not previously having given it all that much thought or having much prior knowlege of WWI - trench warfare, mustard gas, what horses were used for. The meeting was fine - each unit reported its 2011 accomplishments/results and the their 2012 goals.

Happy - Sorry your V-day dinner wasn't all that good. LOL, no party for Coal, and maybe no "cookies" if I don't bake some tonight. Bf, however, wants to get Coal some kind of deer antler or something. I think we ran into someone at the Petco or Petsmart (I never can keep them straight) and said they were better for dogs than bones from the butcher because they don't splinter. Who knows, it just sounds awful to me...

Annie - Ewww re what's on restaurant menus!!! Enjoy your dinner/hair treatment at sissy's tonight.

ceejay52 02-15-2012 03:41 PM

It's a rainy day.
Still not much to say. Just plenty to do.
Need to take the Rav4 to get the oil changed some time this week end.

Annie and Happy
I've been thinking about getting my hair done but I'll probably end up doing it myself. Would like to have some red high lights. I'm getting rid of this gray.

Hello's to Laura and Shad.

ceejay52 02-16-2012 08:58 AM

Hum last one out yesterday and the first one in today.

I got rid of the gray last night. The color I chose matches my original hair perfectly. Only used the root touch up to cover the gray around my face.

More later.

diyana 02-16-2012 09:14 AM

Good morning, ladies!

Yay! It's Thursday! Tomorrow is my work from home day, though I will likely come into the office for a late afternoon meeting, even though I'd rather not. It's about a new policy/practice implemented for JAVA developers...and since I'll be doing JAVA development in the future...I should be aware of it.

DH is starting to feel a little better - less coughing, a little more energy - and we're both relieved that he's finally on the mend. :) I think it will be a low-key weekend for both of us. He needs to relax and I want to relax, though I'm sure I'll do some website work.

I am going to start weighing/measuring/tracking my food again, and exercise more. DH and I have also decided on no expensive vacations or major indoor or outdoor improvements so we can get our finances under control.

******************

Happy - Such a bummer that your V-day dinner wasn't all that good. So nice of DH to give you a sweet card with a loving personal note. Wow! You and DH have been together 40 years - that's so wonderful!!! At work, I am still doing training. It may be another week or so before I start on my new project. BTW, regarding Mel's condition and laughter...let's just say that when I had bad bronchitis/pneumonia and chest/lung pain...I wouldn't watch any comedies or let anyone tell me jokes. It just hurt too much to laugh and then I would have a coughing fit.

Annie - Glad you got at least some of the closets done. I hope you had a nice time at your daughter's last night. Did you catch your troublemaking gnomes and trolls? Naughty little dudes! That's really nasty about the restaurant menus! Yuck!!

Laura - We're having the 2012 goals meeting today. As for "War Horse", DH and I will probably see it either in the theater or on cable/DVD. I have the same feeling about deer antlers. I know that deer antlers are plentiful and are shed naturally...but it still sounds kind of "eewww" as a chew toy.

Ceejay - Hope you stay dry on this rainy day. We got rain last night, and that combined with yesterday's sun and warm temps...almost all the snow is gone. It would be nice if it stayed away until next winter. :crossed: If you do color your hair and get highlights, you have to post photos either on here or on FB.

Shad - I hope you were able to sleep last night. Are you going home for the weekend or staying out near the mine?

Mel - I really hope you're resting and following the doctors' and nurses' orders. Sending you lots of :getwell: hugs.

A big  to all!

Much love and many hugs,

Laura705 02-16-2012 10:22 AM

Morning all. Another Thursday that feels like it should be a Friday. But I actually have quite enough to do at work, so I should be grateful for another day to get it done.

Ceejay - Sounds like your color was a success. Good for you. :) I could save a bundle doing it myself...but between the mess and the uncertainty of doing a decent job, I will pass on that for now.

Michelle - Glad dh is starting to feel better! Bummer you have to go to the office tomorrow on your work-at-home day. Good decision to nix those expenses and get the finances in shape. We have emergency funds set aside, but those are for "true" emergencies...bf & I need to work on earmarking some $$ for home and auto repairs/maintenance so we're ready when they come up. Well, doggie loved the antler bf bought him. :) He was still happily chewing away when I went to bed, but bf was going to take it away from him after a bit more time so Coal could get his rest. We could tell he was getting tired, but he was still chewing that antler! :D

Hellos to the rest of the Worldlies!!

Well, I have nothing much to report. I finally received my new Margaret Richard workout dvd in the mail - I'd pre-ordered it and it took a while for the editing, etc. to be completed. That'll be fun to try. Maybe I'll do that tonight. Or not.

I've been thinking about getting more done around the house on the weekends. My conclusion is that after I go to my Saturday morning exercise class and go home to shower, most of the morning is gone and I don't want to dig into a dirty project right after I've showered, or start a big project when lunch is just around the corner, lol. I might change up my Saturday routine and do a non-cardio workout at home on Saturday morning and then get right into the chores.

And maybe Friday nights would be a good time to get some shopping done. Not exactly what I have in mind after a week of work, but it seems like a good way to avoid all the Saturday crowds.

That said, I might just go to a Circuit class tonight so I can give the new weekend routine a try this weekend.

Good morning girls,

News from Mel from Tuesday. The doctors came for a follow up check up and I asked her to let me know how things went. Got an email this morning, she said she wrote it up and forgot to hit send...

The visiting nurse & the Dr just left. The lower lung is finally clearing up. Working much better. The upper respiratory area is still inflamed and has developed a "wheeze" when coughing and lying down. The cough persists. Grrrrrr.

The Dr says with this weather & chronic Rhinitis that this is "normal"
and my progress is "amazing". NO NEW MEDS!!!! YAY!!! The progress is much better than he expected me to do in this "short time". SHORT??? FOR WHO???
He also said that even a normal person would be struggling this long & that's
why he's so happy with the way things are going. I told him he underestimated my determination!!How many times have I told them this???
He is very pleased with all the blood test results and cancelled all the new tests & Scans he scheduled for next week.

I am not alowed outside or even downstairs yet. Still under the "nobody in or out rule". Told me with the chest still fighting the good fight but that another round of anything could actually be extremely dangerous. OK DOC!!! You told me this all month now and I am properly terrified!!! LOL Hope to be back with you gals soon.

Emotions are still ruling how I feel every day but each day is an improvement.
So I am pleased with me too!!

Happy valentine's Day to everyone.

Sounds like she is doing better - ever so slowly - keep those prayers and good thoughts going her way...

annie175 02-16-2012 12:55 PM

Happy THursday/Friday all ya'll

Had lunch with a good friend that no longer works here. I just love lunches with her...so upbeat and positive...always walk away feeling great. Went to Seasons 52, it was delish. House salad and 3 spinach stuffed mushroom caps. Yum~!

Hair color went well.....lil Monkey was a happy lil thang last night...cooing and talking up a storm. Doc appt on Tuesday for him was great. 10lbs 12oz still newborn size. Yeah!~!I like them little. 22" long.

CEEJAY...I bet you look just beautiful with your hair color. I used to do mine myself till sissy got her license. I still do it myself when she is to busy to do mine.

LAURA...man you are energetic these days...give me some of what you are on sister. I don't like groceries on Saturdays...everybody and their brother are there eating the try-a-bite samples. Bout knocking you over to get to them. Sheesh.

CHELLE...glad DH is getting his MOJO back. Bout time and good on you both for having a lowkey weekend...doesn't hurt one bit to do it. The only successful way I can lose weight (besides the bariatrics) is weighing/measuring/tracking food. It is amazing how much we stick into our mouths when we do not pay attention. May the forces be with you!! Here is a ((((HUG)))) for good measure!

Hellos to the rest of yuns.

Better get busy...amazing what one day off can do to your next work load.

Loves and hugs.

happy2bme 02-16-2012 12:57 PM

As for me, I ordered a book from the library - Unbroken which is about a serviceman who got shot down in his plane during WWII of all things (since we were talking about the subject). It's on the hot list so I can't renew it, will have to make time to sit down and read. Going to do a few chores and then read this afternoon. DH is itching to get outside (the weather is trying to break) - he is eager to hack up the brush and go make his walking / riding trails on the property. Reminds me of a kid again - asked him if he's going to build a fort in the woods and he said with a grin - maybe ;)

So forgive me for skipping the personals this morning - I am a bit behind and will try and get back here tonight.

Happy Thursday ladies.

annie175 02-16-2012 12:58 PM

Happy....thanks for the update on Mellie...you sneaker inner you! Hugs.

diyana 02-16-2012 01:36 PM

All this sunshine and unseasonably warm weather (in the low to mid 40s) is really putting me in a great mood! I would love for it to not snow again until December.

****************
Laura - I'm glad Coal loved the antler. So cute that he kept chewing it even though he was tired. :) I hope that working out at home on Saturdays helps you get more done. I have also been trying to change up grocery shopping days so that I don't spend precious weekend time at the store. Have fun at Circuit class. :)

Happy - Thanks for sharing the Mellie news! So wonderful that she's making great progress, doesn't need any new meds and doesn't need more tests and scans next week!!! Lung stuff does take a long time to get over, and it's hard to be patient. I hope her coughing and wheezing clear up soon. Enjoy your afternoon reading!

Annie - Sounds like a fabulous lunch! Glad to hear the lil guy had a great doc appt! I had to chuckle when you said you like 'em little! That's one of those lines that begs the response "That's NOT what SHE said!" You are right about how much we eat when we don't track. Heck, I'm really trying to make really good food and portion choices, but even after just breakfast and lunch, I've used up roughly 75% to 80% of my daily calorie allotment. :nono:

Better get back to training!

ceejay52 02-16-2012 01:38 PM

Happy
Thanks for the update on Mel. Your DH sounds a lot like my uncle who is raring to get outside and he's 80 years old. He's always wanted a little shack out in the woods on their property. I like the " height=fun size" and the avatar.

Annie
Yes I fully understand that when you take a day off work you are further behind. My hair is done. The area right around my front was the only thing that was gray but no more. All I had to do was use the root touch up. Makes me look like my younger self.

Michelle
I envy people that get to work from home. Your DH evens sounds relieved that he's getting better. I don't want to admit it but I should measure and weigh my food also.

Laura
I know what you mean my not wanting to do any thing after you've showered an exercise class. My problem is that I'm too tired to do anything after I exercise. I usually wait till an hour before bedtime then exercise and I sleep really well.

Shad
How are you feeling today?

Laura705 02-16-2012 02:32 PM

Happy - Thanks for the update on Mel. Sounds like she's feeling pretty good now. She just needs to keep listening to the doc! I have Unbroken on my book list too - a friend at work read it for her book club and she recommended it to me. Let me know how you like it.

Annie - Glad the dinner/hair color/lil monkey time went well. We have a Seasons 52 in our area and we still haven't been there yet, even though bf has a friend who tends bar there. I guess we'll get around to it someday.

Michelle - Went for a walk at lunchtime and enjoyed the milder temps. The sun was in and out and it was a bit windy, but I still enjoyed getting out. Pedometer (finally remembered to wear it!) says 7248 steps so far.

Ceejay - I wouldn't mind exercising at home a bit later, but usually the way it works best for me is to do it before I get too comfortable doing something else, and that means right after work or early in the day. I noticed Happy's "fun size" too. LOL.
