Morning kids,
Sorry I didn't get here yesterday. We were going to work in the yard but we got a light rain. Instead I spent just about all day at the computer, making up my list for vacation - things to do before the trip, what to pack, etc - this will help me from being so frantic the day before we leave. I rarely get any sleep the night before as I am pulling everything together so we can head out early. The trip up to my cousin's is 14 hours which is too much for either of us - even if I did help with the driving. :O So we are driving halfway, stopping at Mom's and then heading up and the same with coming back. The place we originally rented, the owner decided even tho there were bookings all the way to October - she decided to close the cabin 2 weeks ago, leaving us high and dry. The agent suggested some other places but nothing was quite to our liking - especially DH who was pretty upset that she could just dismiss our guaranteed reservation - particularly when we'd have to forfeit our $200 deposit if WE cancelled out less than 6 weeks prior to our reservation. I looked at some other places at lunch on Friday and found one that DH liked. No internet and outside fire ring
but otherwise it's nice and not too far from my cousin. The thing is that it's rented for the weekend vacating Monday morning so we will leave a day later than originally planned and give up a day up there. That's ok, means I won't have to rush home Friday, try and get everything together and take off all frantic. We will leave Saturday and spend the weekend at my Mom's, heading north on Monday. Will again leave on Sunday and this time have a quick overnight at my Mom's leaving Monday again. Getting in and out of the city on Monday will be a REAL PAIN with the traffic so we will probably be heading out both times at about 4am. Still I think we will have fun. I did look up some things to do while up there - my cousin said the maple trees are turning and we should hit some nice color - the weather is cooperating too.
One day we will look at homes, another we will do a fall color drive, might go to the casino one day, catch their fall fair on the weekend and hopefully catch up with my other cousins who said they will make the drive north too to see us again. So something to do each day but not too rushed and leaves time to relax and read and enjoy the stars at night. The house sits on a lake and there is a nice open view off the pier which should give us a good view of the tree colors, eagles flying and stars at night. Just have to watch out for bears, deer and other smaller critters. We are looking forward to it but always so much work before a vacation!
Mel - I have an extra iron if you want it. New in the box too
Hate ironing although like you said, you sometimes need it for curtains and such. I'm glad to hear some of the money is coming back to you.
hope you get it all back. With the ridiculously low interest the banks give, I'd probably keep my shopping cash at home and just keep what you need to pay bills in the bank. Why does it have to be so complicated?
go after the real problem people
Annie - glad you enjoyed Joel. We all need a steady stream of upbeat. Did you enjoy yourself at the party? Maybe your tummy hurts because of all that hot hot hot stuff you like so much
I know it's supposed to be good for you but I'll pick the other milder good for you stuff
Ceejay - I haven't see Kris in a long time but last time I heard Neil sing on TV - I think he might have been an advisor on American Idol or something - I thought - he's kind of losing his voice for some of his songs. Kind of sad. Feeling better today?
Shad - you sure do like the footy, don't you?
I know the feeling of isolation you experience - kinda like being amongst all these Green Bay Wisconsin Packer fans
I loved, loved LOVED the martini story. I guess you have to find some humor in it all otherwise you'd go nuts. That Annie is a witty one!
Michelle - hope you had a nice birthday weekend and that Doppler is doing well and seeing the world with new eyes.
Laura - you out there enjoying September? It flies by fast. Enjoy the sun before the rain moves in. Has anything started to turn yet? I miss the brilliant golds in the forest preserves. I used to work in Northbrook and passed through the forest preserves - loved watching the trees turn - sure made up for the sitting in the traffic that came later in the season.
Well I have lots to do and it ain't getting done sitting here - that's for sure. Have a good Sunday all.
