  • Hey everyone... just popping in, looks like summer is over not that it was much of a summer here. I've had more colds this summer then the past 3 put together!

Rosebud - Glad to hear someone has some nice weather!

Next weekend it will be time to get most of what we have in the garden out. We planted it then largely ignored it. I have sunflowers that must be 7-8 feet tall that have no heads! These blooming thing just won't bloom! I am so dissapointed with them, I love the big bright yellow heads. I'm going to throw out the seeds and use some other brand next year.

Stella - Hope your wedding was great!
  • AUNTY ~ well, it was nice on Friday; and Saturday wasn't too bad -- but every since then, it has been scorching ... up into the 90's even. Thank goodness that we have some clouds and a breeze or it would be unbearable. Gee, we have never seen such temps up here like this year; and hope we don't again for some time to come. Some people seem to like it, but anything in the high 80's or 90's is too much for me these days. I am drinking lots of water ...

Sounds like you need sunflowers with a short season variable; some folks around here have some nice ones with all the heat and sun we've been having. I used to grow them when we lived in the country. I may scout out some short season varieties and grow some next year too. They are quite showy too. I think some nice yellow ones, and maybe even some of the orange & brown ones would like nice here too.

The has been wreaking havoc with my plants but I am winning the battle, I think. I picked another basket of green beans yesterday and hope the rest are ready before the frost shows up here. They are along the west side of our house, so I am hoping that they will be sheltered a little bit.

DH watered the garden early this AM before we left to go shopping and run a few errands to protect them. I will put the hose out again after dinner as I am trying to bribe those bean plants with lots of water. So far, it seems to be working well.

STELLA is on her honeymoon in CUBA as we speak; or at least on her way. Hope they have a great time ...
  • ... thought I'd pop in & say Hi!

Weather's been hot and humid the past couple of days (today @ 45') - thank God for air conditioning!!
  • CHER ~ glad you found us over here -- I see you've been a member since 2008 and are on the Atkins plan since January of this year. How's it going? I am on a calorie/portion plan similar to exchanges, but also lower carb (not NO carb) as well, as that has helped me get and keep my blood sugar levels in the normal range so that I could stay off the meds.

I am focusing on healthy complex carbs in limited amounts -- or just enuff to still enjoy them.

No one has mentioned whether I should change to a fall thread; guess I could since it's the beginning of September. I guess fall goes from September to November although our winter does come in November up here; and some years we have had a little snow in October but it usually doesn't stay.

So, I think I'll start a fall thread tonight as this one is getting pretty long -- please join us there ... Rosebud

  • Good Morning Everyone
Thought I would pop in on my final day off for this week. Go back to work Sunday night for a 3 night stretch. Since the last 2 weeks of August I have been off kilter but I am working my way back forward. Somethings are getting reorganized in my house now that the boys are back in school. Also with the schools open again my job has been quiet. I went from driving around 3 counties answering alarms, up to 480 km a night to barely driving at all. My last night of work this past week I went 64 km and never left the city of London. I am hoping that I will be able to add in my exercise to my night now that I will be able to get out of my car more.

JJ Canada I was a school bus driver until the March break this year. I did it for 10 yrs and loved it. Have you been doing it long? Its a great job while raising kids. My sister did it too.

I hope everyone is staying well and on plan. Fall starts Sept 22, will there be a new thread started for the fall?

Take care everyone will pop in again when able. Stay healthy and on plan.
