Quickie again! The Journals are back up, by the way - we lost the avatars but found them again!

My kitchen is progressing - Mike comes to work here 5 to 8 after his other jobs and did the grouting last night. What a messy job. He's back tonight to set the pot lights. Amy the Kitchen Guru was in this morning for an inspection and my dear friend Claire, who works on Habitat projects, came in and installed my dish towel rack and garbage rack thingie. Since I can't kneel, it's almost impossible for me to get under the sink. It's certainly much better than last week!

Big waves and hugs to everyone. this is quite a group!

Meadow, if I get a chance to go out West to Nanaimo, we may meet. Where are you? I need to go visit Mel one of these days too and Hollyhock is on the list for a summer road trip! I wish I had a personal jet!

Garden chores are calling!

Afternoon all,
It's been a fairly quiet day here. I took the dog out for some exercise this morning. She's only young and not trained yet, so that was fun. Nice dog.

Then we went and gassed up the car and then went shopping for groceries. I have bought myself some dried and fresh fruit and some biscuits to nibble on while I am driving. It should take me around 6 hours, provided of course I don't get lost. I have minute instructions from mapquest but I still have to stop to think about left and right etc. I'm getting there.

Fresh stone fruit and cherries in the store today. Yummo. I saw some mango and thought of Happy, but they are not suitable for eating while driving.

Anyway, better go help get dinner on the table. See you all soon.

Goodness, so much happens while the server is out!

I'm very jealous - really wish I could join Holly and Madcat and the Shadfly on the 11th in TO, but will be not only working but working late.

Happy, I'm so jealous of your pool. When I owned a little house before condodom, I had a backyard pool and I miss it so much. I do think it's funny that I used to open it the second week of May up here in the frozen north, and Happy has only just opened hers end May in the tropics... How great that Ceejay will be able to join in for a Shad visit!! I'm so amazed at how all this is coming together!

Mel, we've chit-chatted via email - I can't believe they wake you up in the middle of the night and then don't wait until you get to the door! don't they realize you live for the boys in uniform?? Shame on them.

Meadow, will you be able to spend an evening with Shad, or just wave as she chugs by? If it's the chug option, you should find out ahead of time what her seat assignment is so you can be on the right side of the train. Or left, of course, if that's where she's sitting...

Ruth, it's lovely to see you here so much. Another Shad miracle! I'm seriously contemplating hopping into my car after work on the 14th and landing in on you and Shad and the doggage for dinner, unless of course we can convince Shad to leave TO on the 13th. Of course if I did invade you I'd bring along the inflatable and sleeping bag... Don't know the address, but Delta's pretty small, so there's no escape.

Yikes, sorry to those I"ve missed, but I just spent over an hour on the phone with a friend in mid-post, and now I'm tired... Will chat soon.
to all.

LOL

SHAD~ TOO BAD THE DOG CAN'T KEEP YOU COMPANY ON THE DRIVE. MAYBE HE KNOWS HIS LEFT FROM RIGHT! DON'T BE SPITTING CHERRY PITS OUT THE WINDOWS AT PASSER BYS!!! YOU MIGHT GET A TICKET ENJOY!

CARLA~ YOU MADE ME LAUGH WHEN YOU SAID "REAL TIME" IN THE EMAIL. I WAS THINKING THE SAME THING WHEN I SENT IT. WAS OUT ON A CALL WHEN IT CAME IN OTHERWISE YOU'D HAVE HAD ANOTHER REAL TIME ANSWER

IN THE LAUNDRY ROOM AGAIN. WASHING THE CLOTHES THAT ARE GOING TO A GOOD HOME. THE WOMAN HASN'T MUCH MONEY AND NEITHER DOES HER SISTER. I FOUND A BAG OF CURTAINS IN THE CLOSET. MUST HAVE HIDDEN THEM THERE LAST YEAR WONDERED WHERE THEY WENT....NOW IN THE WASHER TOO!
I AM OFF TO EAT A BREAKFAST BAR OUT IN THE BACKYARD. NICE AND COOL!
HAPPY WEDNESDAY

TO MISS HAPPY WHO MIGHT BE BREATHING DOWN MY NECK!!

Darlings!

Just a quick post before I go to get cleaned up to face the day and the new job. I have really enjoyed by two days off but they have gone by so fast and I feel that I haven’t really packed much into them. Isn’t that the way it always is? Yesterday I started the day off with a bike ride and I had to detour off my normal route due to construction (even on the bike path. Welcome to Toronto) but it turned out to be a wonderful accident. The “road less traveled” led through High Park. I wish you could have all been there with me when I was riding along Grenadier pond, where the water was like glass, and a swan glided by, gleaming in the sun. The big challenge was to not run over the goslings who threatened to wander on to the path. You know, adolescent Canada Geese look like mini ostriches. It was such a nice ride and so refreshing.

Mel~ That’s my breathing you hear!! Enjoy your al fresco breakfast. How ambitious that you already have laundry in.

Happy~ Oh, I envy your pool too. When I was a kid we used to go swimming in Georgian Bay on the May 24th weekend. That was cold! Reminds me of that joke they tell in Florida: “What do you call someone in the pool in January? A Canadian”

Shad~ Drive carefully. You could eat a mango while driving but the steering wheel would get all sticky! BTW Do you have anything here in TO that you have a burning desire to see?

Carla~ it is too bad you can’t make the trip down here too. But you can be here in spirit. You know it is no coincidence that “work” is a four letter word.

Ruth~ Good news about the kitchen progress and how nice it is to have friends. You could stop by here for coffee on the way through town.

Meadow~ Congrats that your garden is blooming. That’s the fun of gardening. You never know what will work and what won’t. As for the couch, I picked out a microfiber that has a texture that is a cross between velvet and suede. We made the sales guy laugh because I insisted on dragging my fingernails across all the fabric samples to see how much of a cat temptation each would be. I can only hope my little monsters won’t use it as a new scratching post. I may have to sell them for medical experiments if they do. Anyone want two used cats?

Darn I better get a move on. Don’t want to be late on my first day!

Happy drizzly morning chicks,

We sure do need some rain and I'd much rather see it BEFORE Shad shows up. But it's sort of spitting - dampening things, making the hair droop but not enough to give the plants a good drink of water.

Such a chatty lot. It was good to hear from all of you.

Madcat - you have such a wonderful way with prose. I love your writing style. Cat proof fabric on the couch and testing it with the cat claw technique Thanks for the great laugh to start the day. Good luck on the new job - hope it's going to be an enjoyable one.

Mel - not breathing down your neck but peeking around the corner! Enjoy your breakfast bar. Fiber One bars are DE-lish-ussss!

Sure do wish I could meet up with the lot of you - I think we'd have a grand time and probably get tossed out of any place we descended upon

Sorry to be so quick but the hamster wheel is turning fast. Lots to do these last 2 days at work and at home. Must stay focused - don't procrastinate to avoid what must be done.

Look out New Mexico - wild bush woman on your roads

Love to all - sorry I can't speak to everyone individually right now. Be good.

Good Morning!!!

It is going up to 30C here today. Hot! Lots of pollen here too. Achooooo!!

I have work at noon. I want to get the main floor of the house company ready. Just once. Just for me. it is 3/4 of the way there.

My older cat Rainbow is still hiding. Has been since Sat night. She like to be in the bahttub, curtain pulled. I can pick her up and cuddle. I have checked her all over for physical stuff. Nothing. I carry her down to use the little box and see if she will eat and then she scurries right back up to the tub.We are onto day 4. She has not eaten much.

We received our bill for the sewers they put in. It is ONLY $16,000.00 per household. Then you are responsible for getting a permit and hooking up to your home , by a deadline for an additional $3000.00+ and then you need another permit to crush your septic tank and $1000.00 + to hire that work done also by a deadline. They have given us til Dec 2007 to come up with the money and pay in full. There is minimal financing availabe from the township for a lovely additional $8000.00 interest. They think we should be quite pleased with this. Now that millionaire developer can put a subdivision in that no one around here wants and make another million bucks. There is NO benefit to us in this at all.
The township has also not repaired ANY of the damage done to our yard more than a year ago.

Life is never dull here. weeeheeeeee!!!! And this is just today. Yesterday was interesting. I am quite happy. Not so sure about everyone else who lives here. May be allergies. Hubby applied for a potentiallly GREAT job. He has a fab referral from a friend of mine.

Short post, can't stop.
I'm about to hit the road to NM and will be in Farmington around 3.00pm their time. I'm going to look out for Wiley Coyote and the Roadrunner, mango eating drivers, look left first instead of right, make sure I am sitting closer to the middle of the road than the passenger seat is and being very careful of marauding Indians. Although from what I have seen so far, it is more likely marauding motorcyclists.

Will try to be back in tonight to tell you all about it.

Shad--Be careful.

Happy--I'm still making plans to be in Memphis on Saturday. I'll call you before I leave the house. Telling my aunt I'm meeting friends this week end.
It's just dawned on me that I have a cousin, daddy's side, that lives in Germantown also. My friend is in Dallas, Tx this week. It will just be me.

Mel--I love FiberOne bars, but I can only find them at a super Walmart store.

Holly--Yikes on the sewer bill. I knew they were expensive but didn't realize how much.

We've had students from the University of Kentucky today. They were doing a study on the Wilcox Aquifer. Yes, this is where we pump our water, not from the Mississippi River. A lot of our towns people think that we do pump from the river. I didn't get to meet them. They have been at the well sight.

More later.

Good morning chicks,

Last day on the old job. Can't get anything done because people keep coming up and talking to me. That's nice and I appreciate their good wishes but it doesn't help me get done what has to be done. And these days I'm not up for hanging around the office well into the evening to catch up.

House is shaping up nice. Should be good to go for the Royal Inspection tomorrow night - tho with us getting home around midnight, perhaps she won't be up to doing much inspecting

Mel - let me assure you that there is no shortage of PCs in this house. At least 5 right now and those are only the ones that are actively working Shad and I can do dueling posts if she'd like. Of course she is limited to saying only nice things otherwise I would have to consider pulling her internet connection

Let's hope the rain keeps at bay Ceejay. Of course more often than not, it's coming down by you but once you get over here it just magically goes away. How interesting that you have family in town here. Looking forward to meeting you.

Be safe Shad. See you soon. Don't forget I will look for you by the luggage/baggage claim area tomorrow night. I will have on a beige, black and white striped sweater and black pants. Of course at that time of night I don't think there will be too many people roaming the airport so we should be able to spot each other quickly.

Holly bummer on the sewer. That happened to us also in Chicago. They did new construction which forced US to have a large assessment for sidewalks, curbs and sewers. The developer makes out big time and the homeowners are stuck with a huge bill. Hope you can work things out financially.

How's the new job going Madcat?

Carla, it doesn't matter when you open the pool but how warm the water is. I remember staying at one hotel - might even have been in TO where they had an indoor swimming pool and you'd swim through this flap of plastic and you'd be in the outside part of the pool. I remember it being winter time and it was snowing lightly outside and the steam was rising from the pool water. A very odd experience but fun none the less. I'm sure they must have spent a small fortune heating that pool.

Ok chicks, I'd better get a move on here. Don't want to be late on my LAST day on the job

Hellos to Ruth, Meadow and Nae.

Morning all from Bloomfield NM
Lovely morning, not yet too hot, but it will no doubt get there.
Arrived safe and sound yesterday, must be getting used to this driving on the wrong side of the road. Had a bit of fun at the gas pumps and it seems that at every gas station I have been to, the restrooms are being cleaned.
The entry to NM along I40 is magnificent. Rock formations are magic. However that drive from Gallup to Farmington must be the longest 74 miles I have ever driven. It seemed to take forever. I rung my friends for instructions and then finally got there. We had a nice dinner and a long gossip and here I am.
Today we are going to some Indian ruins - not sure exactly where but south of here somewhere and we are going to look at jewellery this morning as well. Yippee. Now that's something I can do well.

I won't be doing inspections at midnight. It will be enough to fall into bed and inspect the back of the eyelids.

See you tomorrow, maybe. I'll be on the road early

I THOUGHT I BETTER MAKE A POST NOW JUST IN CASE.....
THIS ELECTION IS NOT GOING WELL FOR ANYONE. I AM HAVING GREAT DFIFFICULTY HOLDING ON TO THIS BLOCK OF 100+ VOTES. WHEN THE CURTAINS ARE DRAWN ON TUESDAY IT'S ANYONE'S GUESS HOW THEY WILL VOTE. EVEN MY "FRIENDS" ARE AGAINST ME!! THEY KEEP TRYING TO SWAY THE ELECTION. SO FAR SO GOOD FOR ME BUT IT TAKES A LOT OF TIME AND BS-ING TO KEEP IT GOING. I HAVE THE TIME WHERE AS THEY DON'T. BUT IT'S TIRING. SO IF I DISAPPEAR OR FORGET TO COME HERE.....THE ELECTION IS TUESDAY THEN I CAN REST FOR A DAY AND THEN WELCOME SHADDIE!!! THANK GOD YOU PICKED THE 7TH AND NOT BEFORE!!! OR WE COULD HAVE USED YOU TO ELECTIONEER ALL OVER TOWN!!! THEY WOULD HAVE LOVED THE ACCENT PROVIDING THEY COULD UNDERSTAND YOU!! I AM VERY HAPPY SHAD GOT TO HER DESTINATION!!
AS FOR HAPPY~ I HOPE THE NEW JOB IS A WONDERFUL ONE!! FUNNT YOU AND MADCAT BEGINNING A NEW JOURNEY IN THE WORK FIELD TOGETHER I WILL BE POOLSIDE IN SPIRIT!

OK CHICKIES...GOTTA RUN AND TAKE A SHOWER AND EAT SOMETHING. SEEMS I MISSED LUNCH WHILE GOING DOOR TO DOOR!
