Fly-by: all goeth well. Just returned from mani-pedi: fuschia toes and irridescent shell pink fingernails. For some reason, she did my toes first So now I've got to be very careful of my fingies. Wonder if DH can be conned into preparing dinner
Up and at 'em today. Sort of fell down last evening. I must learn to just go to bed. But still seem to be faring well otherwise (except actually on the scale,of course!) - so today I go to buffet luncheon and THE FULL MONTY. Looking forward to it.
No work today, none, no, not at all. No worrying, no planning (well, maybe a teeny bit) - just a day to set all things aside and have the FUN I so often forget to get to.
I'm tired this a.m. That darn bug just doesn't seem to want to truly leave. Respiratory infection is the mode du jour Ah well, some day it'll be gone. Was able, anyway, to get to the gym and will do some tai chi later. I'm thinking I'm going to rejoin my tai chi group tomorrow evening. It really did make me feel pretty good. Plus I just don't usually feel like sitting around in the evening. DH is totally happy to sit and read and sip wine every evening but after a day of being mostly cooped up I mostly want to go and do.
The issue is that once choir practice starts up again, it'll keep me booked Monday thru Thursday most weeks. But I guess I can always skip an evening from time to time if I feel the need. I am definitely feeling like my life needs a little shaking up and tai chi is definitely more moderate than some other choices
I think I need a vacation. I'm going to plan to go out to the retreat some time in the next few weeks Even a few days away from home and work would be beneficial.
Amarantha, that color matches my toes exactly! I was aiming for something with a bit more purple to it but the light was so dang dim (flattering!) in there that I couldn't properly choose.
Love hearing about young Queenie! Kudos to you for being brave enough to take on a pup. Our humane society has a dog sale on and I'm tempted, I must say...
Anagram, I ended up preparing it myself. But I did manage to do it without messin' up the manicure.
Re: housepainting -- my neighbour got her house painted a dark red with beige-y trim and black accents. It's kind of a stately-looking place and the color looks great. She said that it really changed the way she felt about her house, kind of like getting a nice new dress, if a really big one.
Enjoy TFM!!! It should be loads of fun. Good plan on the "no work" thing, too. Have a fabulous day, Sweetie!
Here are some bananas performing a scene from TFM:
Kat, did you catch the meteor showers?
Kaye, how goes it, Lovey?
WSW, hope you're feeling better!
Ceara, are you dashing madly about with hounds at your heels?
Dollings, let us make this a good one! Love to all, mentioned or un-...
I think I will adopt this color for awhile, Wood Nymph!
Thanks fer mentionin' my young Queen. She truly is, not a princess at all, very regal (and opinionated). Yesterday she was determined to finally makes friends with my older cat and she brought a stuffed tiger over to the Auntie Cat and pushed it into her, to no avail. Approximately an hour later the young royal brought a plastic food dish over to Auntie and likewise pushed it into her. Then she got a bit more aggressive, barking and trying to get Auntie to play with the toys, so I had to intervene and picked the Queenling up and brought her in the office with me, whereupon she fell asleep, but her poor feelings were hurt.
Just back from TFM and haven't laughed so hard in ages. Very delightful afternoon, filling my fun quotient for a while.
Maybe emptying the dishwasher and folding some towels don't qualify as working but I'll have to be sure before I start them. Yes, WN you need a balance of "in" and "out". And what a smart little Queenling to try to win over A.C.
I should be napping, but had to pop in. I'm not sure when I'll get my next chance to do so. Work tonight, then off to Mom and Dad's again tomorrow. I'll probably spend the night there and come back up for a dentist appt Fri afternoon.
Very excited that I just scored two tickets to the hot, newest show coming to Broadway, "Young Frankenstein!" DH tried a week ago through Ticketmaster, but they said that all but the very worst (yet still ridiculously expensive) seats were sold out through Jan '08. I just noticed an email from "Working Advantage" (employee discount program) that said 2 tickets were available
on precisely the day we wanted. Score! (I won't think about the class I have scheduled that same day today, I'll think about that tomorrow!)
Sounds like all are doing well hereabouts...
I'm waxing and waning on the diet/exercise front. More waning, actually, though, if thinking about exercising counts, I am WAY ahead of the game!
Maintaining though is certainly better than gaining. I hate losing weight that I've already disposed of. So redundant.
I love hearing about your puppy, Amarantha! Reminds me of poor ol' Molly in her heyday. So cute...her trying so hard to befriend staunch kitty!
I missed the meteor showers too, Arabella...was outside after midnight, hopeful, but the skies were a bit cloudy at the time. I never did get up later to check. Oh well...
Anagram... I've heard nothing but raves about The Full Monty! How did I miss that one?
Kaylets...okay, I got a few...not many! They're so easy.......
after you see the answers! Thanks for sharing!
Dang, my naptime has been seriously compromised! Must abort posting mission NOW in favor of quick pre-work catnap!
be back soon!

I broke free and did what I wanted to a few times yesterday, with stunning results. My mood totally shot up and I felt like life and work were not so bad after all.
I went to the farmer's market by myself and spent a little time looking at stuff and talking to people (DH frog marches me through there -- 'tis the nature of DHs, I've heard). Set up a coffee date for next week with a guy I used to work with who's here for the summer. Dropped in to show my hairdresser how my hair turned out (I leave there with wet hair because blow-drying doesn't work for me).
Then I was a ray of sunshine
I took myself for a stroll around the park after dinner instead of sitting around and then took self out for a set of tai chi in the back yard. More calories burned, too -- gotta think that if I keep doing a little extra every day it'll help...
Ooops -- fuchsia note: I just saw it in a book and realized I'd misspelled (with great confidence that I had it nailed, too, I must add. ) And now I see that the color I really wanted was magenta. Wonder if it would work if I slapped some magenta polish on top of the fuchsia.
I remember that our Ceara spelled this for us a while back. Wonder if I'll remember correct spelling next time?
Anagram, glad to hear that TFM lived up to expectations -- there's nothing like a good long laugh, huh. Here's to fun!
Amarantha, I love hearing about Queenie! Sorry her feelings were hurt but I expect that she will be uncrushable and will just work away at Auntie C. until Auntie C. has no choice but to relent.
Kat, that's too bad that you missed the meteor showers too. Seems like here the night to see them would have been Saturday. We haven't had a clear night since then. Good for you on the maintain! I think sometimes we need to do that (definitely there's control involved) before we can get ready for a fresh campaign.
I lost 30 pounds last year and then stalled until last month. But I COULD have regained every thing I lost and more. And now I'm heading down the scale, I am.
Dahlinks, have a wonderful day! Love to all, mentioned or un-...
Good, gray morning, s - Bad sleep night but I shall be like my Wood Nymph and overcome. I think I'll clean bathrooms, then decide what the rest of my day will be like. Depends on my hair, maybe, as I need to have driver's license renewed and want to have a "nice" pic for next four years. Ah, Vanity, thy name is...........If I go there I'll also go to visit uncle in nursing home.
Had the pred nibbles last night unfortunately. First time but once is too much. Running out of time. I agree on the "hold". Sometimes that is the very best we can do. But I too am tired of losing and relosing and relosing the same 3-5 pounds.
I hear the bathrooms calling - oh, the Romance of the Day ;0
Actually, Puppy Girl's determination to be included in Cat Life came in handy today as Demon Child (my youngest demonic cat) has been hiding by door since PG came and running outside whenever I open it to let PG out or in, despite all my efforts to foil this ploy (my cat's DON'T go outside). Demon Child usually runs right back in when I call her but she's such a small fidgety cat and she just got settled down from being adopted by me when I foisted Puppy Girl on her, so this is sort of a protest, I guess. Anyhow, she ran outside before I could stop her (she's REALLY good at this) and Puppy Girl ran after her and chased her back in, whereupon Demon Child hissed and lashed out but this time I didn't mind her being upset because I was so happy to have the silly cat back in where she's safe. So I gave everyone treats.
To gym-goers, please read up on CA-MRSA (think that's right on the acronym), which is a very bad community induced infection that you can get by contact (such as on machines, etc.) in gyms and there's almost an epidemic going on. It's always been prevalent in hospitals but now it's in the community ... family dogs can also get it and transmit to their owner ... or maybe the owner transmits it to the dog from the outside world and the dog then transmits it, I'm not sure. Anyhow, always wipe down equipment in the gym with disinfectant and shower immediately after using the gym ... I do wait until I come home, which isn't recommended.
Cute visual - Pups will have them playing her tune yet.
Fresh Start Friday. Decent day yesterday. Hot here again for a while today but sooner or later that cool front will get here. Supposed to be nice for the weekend. Heading out for tai chi this a.m. Just not getting enough exercise. Still don't have proper orthotics so I can get back to walking - which I wouldn't be doing in the heat anyway. Just so out of tone at the moment. I know - you'd giggle at the word "tone" applied to me but I feel the difference.
Off to the big decisions of the day. Yesterday worked out pretty well and I have some things planned for the cooler weekend weather. Just need to make some good choices for today.
Onward - Downward - Stay the ly Course - Our days at the Summer Palace are Waning.
Fly-by: Today's the big annual parade here, which passes right by my house. We had some family members in, although DGS and his cousin watched for about a half-hour and then went to dig a hole in the back yard. DH was NOT pleased It was a bit frantic trying to prepare lunch while people were coming and going and marching bands passing. Next year I'll get lunch ready ahead of time. But it was fun and I think everyone had a good time.
I had a few nachos and triskets but didn't do badly. However, I feel a gin and tonic on the deck calling to me...
Hmmm... went from G&T to two glasses of wine. AND topped off the evening by scarfing down a really big chocolate chip cookie that DGS' mom had left. Bet that was the triskets talking -- I'm fine as long as I don't have wheat or sweets but if I have any... I usually end up having more. Must nip that in bud right now. Because I have not quite two weeks left to get off the 3.2 between me and goal this month. Which I am going to hit
Anagram, we would never giggle at the idea of "tone," not for ourselves or for other Royals! Funny, I was just thinking this a.m. how much firmer my flesh feels after even a month or so of running a few times a week. And I remember one expert who had a theory that any exercise that makes us jiggle makes our bodies try to make us less jiggly, so as to make that exercise easier for us. I choose to believe it!
Amarantha, CA-MRSA sounds nasty! I don't usually touch anything in the gym with any part of me but my hands and make a point of washing my hands as soon as I get in the door. Should probably wash before I leave the gym but then there would still be the doors... Maybe I should carry sanitizer?
So, anyhoo, I walked yesterday and did pretty well other than aforesaid triskets and cookie. Ran this morning, did some yoga for stretchies and will squeeze in a set of tai chi.
We're going to SIL's for a dinner party this evening. Her dinners are usually pretty healthy. Must have it firmly in my head right now that I'm not going to have dessert, though.
I recall the glycemic index guy saying that if you occasionally want to indulge in anything especially carby or fatty that you could lessen the effects by taking fiber a half-hour beforehand. I'm definitely going to give that a try some time. Come to think of it, it would probably help me handle gluten better, too...
I'm wearing a new top I got at the same time as I got the suit jacket: close-fitting, deep, deep red jersey-knit, drawstring scoop-neck with a flare-y ruffle cuff. I'm not sure if I'll retain the nerve to wear it out tonight -- I generally go for "hide me" clothes. I'm pretty visible in this
Oh, go shockingly visible, Wood Nymph. You are, after all, a Queen and Royal Red probably suits you perfectly. And it's nice to go a little out of comfort zone once in a while. Betcha DH loves it.
A parade by your house sounds delightful. Hope you enjoy your dinner party tonight, even with no dessert. I think fiber helps lots w/everything.
It's a delightful day here - just delightbul and maybe tomorrow too. I did some garage cleanup this a.m. and will do some yard work early tomorrow morning - allergies or no.
I've gone into slow mode now for the rest of the weekend. A quiet one for me - to rest up from last one and get ready for next one. One nasty piece of paperwork I do want to get done either today or tomorrow. Probably won't take that long but have to be in mood.
Demon scale was more kind this a.m. but it's not an "official" day. Just nice to see a friendly number once in a while to remind me to keep on going. Will FINALLY get proper orthotics Wednesday (if I'm lucky) and hopefully will be adjusted and shod in time to get to walkies in the fall weather - one of my favorite things.
The good thing about the prednisone is that I get a lot of physical stuff done on it and that's been happening. Little pain too so I'm in a much better mood. Now if I could just keep the appetite away...............................But so far today I've eaten well. Overall, even though I'm eating too much probably, I am eating healthier. Bought lots of fruit, some peppers, celery today - was out of all but a few carrots and onions. And it is the time to pig out on all the fresh stuff available.
Gray, rain pending type of day here. Really fouled up last night, big time. Being penitent this morning. And have done some long overdue yard work so far. Might get more in between the rain drops. Looks like next few days will be similar. Time to get some inside work done maybe.
Feels like a lazy day for me. No major goals - just maybe a little more yard work here and there, finishing the Sunday paper, dozing. We'll see how ambitious I get. Am getting a clothes sorting urge but it's still small and resistable. I think that's a "fall's coming" thing.
