Glad to see everyone else managed to sleep thru the night.. LOL! Don't worry, I got up enough for all of us! Gotta quit drinking so close to bedtime, but I was thirsty!! It's been sweltering hot here (102 yesterday!) and the AC isn't working like it should, so I've been hot and thirsty! But I've managed to stick with water like a good girl! I think it's helping with the bladder issue.
TECH - I would definately find out everything I could about the TA job and see if you are more interested in it. I think the main thing is picking the one you think you will like more and not burn out on. Keep your options open and do what makes YOU happy! Good Luck!!
SOLLY - My DS doesn't have trouble fitting in, but with this being a switch to high school, I let him get more "name brand" stuff than I usually do. Just a treat so he feels more comfortable at least in his mind.
This year will be a switch for him, but not that drastic as they have just built a new school in our district for ONLY 9th graders. There are 750 freshmen enrolled and they will have their own school, completely self-sufficient. Lunchroom, gym, library, everything. They will only be in school with their own grade. The 10-12 are in school across the highway and they will not have any contact with them except on the bus. It's a pretty neat idea, and a really nice building.
Here they do block periods in middle AND high school, so his schedule will be the same, only the work will change. They do 4 classes a day, 2 hours a class. It means finishing a class in one semester and getting your credit for it that semester. I think it will be good for the kids who slip and don't pass a class the first semester, they can drop an elective and take that class over immediately the next semester before they forget everything and pass on to 10th grade. It's worked really well, they've been doing it for 3 years... we were the first school to do it!
The little one is going into the 4th grade. His biggest concern is if his teacher is gonna be pretty.. LOLOL. He's a nut.
I'm looking forward to them going back! They're pretty tired of each other, and I'm tired of hearing them bicker!! I know they're bored and miss their friends, and I'm hoping it will make them appreciate the time at home more!
I don't go back to work until the 14th of this month, so I'll have some serious peace and quiet! DH goes out of town back to school in Atlanta 3 days next week, so I'm thinking of painting the bathroom while he's gone... a little of my own "while you were out" LOL!
Ok.. off to wash all the school clothes, get the supplies ready, and get the house straightened up. Meeting my MIL at Curves at 4:30 so I gotta have everything done by then.
Well, I didn't get the school monitor job. But, I already submitted my resume/cover/reference list to the elementary school principal and talked briefly about it to him and he said that the job is currently sort of undefined at the moment and that he'll keep my stack 'o stuff on hand when they're ready to start interviewing. So, maybe that'll work out.
Talk to you guys later. Shelley's forraging around like a squirrel looking for food for lunch.
Hey! My kids went back to school yesterday and I think it went well. Sean had his first day of high school and LOVED it!!! He came home speaking Spanish and talking about band, etc. I had to ask him to slow down, I couldn't understand him! and 14 yr old boys don't do that! I usually get short monotone answers from him, so it must have been good! Rachel was concerned with not having friends in her classes. There are only five girls in her science class counting her! Craig told her she would just have to make new friends and I suggested making friends with some of the boys. You should have seen the reaction!! I hope he keeps his enthusiam and she has a better day today. It was back to work for me also and not too bad. a couple of skinned knees and a wasp sting, but nothing major!
Hi all, started off the day eating toast with avocado and hot tea. Lunch we had out- I had a salad with bleu cheese and half a turkey sandwich.
Dinner will be rotisserie chicken, a greek salad ,whole wheat noodles romanoff and honey dew melon.
We are going to see Lady in the Water this afternoon. If the movie is bad at least it will be nice and cool in the theater.
Dear Heart, I sure don't miss the babysitting days. I think that might have been the most stressful part of my life. The turning point for me was leaving my toddler at daycare sitting in the dark due to a power outage. I got back to the car and thought "what am I doing?" I went back in and picked him up then went home and ultimately made the decision to stay home with the kids. Of course those kids are 18 and 16 now!
Tech, hope your job situation sorts itself out. Your husband's did right?
Monet, I'm glad you slept well I woke up at 3:00 am to hear my husband complaining that the fat cat was wollering on him. (What else do fat cats do?)
Solly, I'm with you about the heat! Today is 103!! That is just obscene. You are so good about going to the gym. This fall I'm going to try to start back to the YMCA since they built a brand new one just a couple mile away!
Beth, I always try to get my boys a new outfit for the first day at least but this year nobody is interested.
Just maybe some new shoes.
Thin, I thought my kids started back early on August 17th! Hard to believe summer is almost over.
Good morning! I woke up at 4 and could not go back to sleep. I finally got up at 5:15, and went downstairs. On the way, one of the cats, who was sleeping on the counter in the hall bathroom, woke up and got all excited to see someone else up. He started meowing...I swear he is part siamese...and woke up Justin! I finally put him out. (the cat, not Justin!)
I played a bit of my video game until Tom got up and was leaving for work. He goes and runs before work at the greenway near his office. I SHOULD suit up and go out for a walk as soon as it is light enough, but my back is bothering me, so I will do water aerobics as it is easier on the joints.
I HAVE to finish my letter of resignation this morning and mail it. They called me yesterday and wanted me to come over and help pack up the art room. I declined. (of course) I have the letter pretty much done. It is good, but I need to remove the last snide line and then find the correct addresses. I AM going to miss the kids. I am NOT going to miss the frustration. OR the stress!
Does anyone here use a water filtration system to purify their drinking water? If so, which one do you have, and do you like it? We have been using PUR, but recently, the cartridges have been awfully short lived. They used to last six weeks, but now are only lasting at most three. At $20 a pop, it seems rather expensive, and I seriously doubt the quality of our water has coincidentally gone down the same time I changed filter housing. I guess I need to purchase a few gallons of filtered water until I decide what to do...the PUR died last night...again...and I am out of cartridges.
THIN: That is so awesome that Sean loved school so much! I sure hope Rachel grows to love it too. It makes it so much easier to get them up and out if they LIKE school. My youngest loved it and hated it, off and on... My oldest hated it...and even if he loved it, it would have been a chore to get him up! He almost missed the bus EVERY morning! Talk about stress! The school was seven miles away in awful traffic!
KAYE: A weekend with Paula Deen sounds like a blast! Sometimes her accent irks me, as I think she puts it on more than necessary, but she has some great recipes. In fact, I credit her french toast casserole with my diabetes diagnosis! I miss Pancho too. I will send her an email and see if I can get her to at least check in. She WAS going to...guess she got busy and never got the chance.
TECH: I am sorry you did not get that monitor job. I know it is hard to believe, but I am convinced things happen for a reason. God has other plans for your time. Did you ever hear back from Penney's hair salon?
BETH: How did you sleep? I think my problems last night all started when I found a flea on me in the bathroom...and when I woke up and went to pee at 4, all I could think of was the fact I had tried to catch that dang flea and it got away. I imagined it biting me from then on, and every little itch loomed larger than life itself.... sigh. I think I have an overactive imagination!
HEART: PUT THAT SCALE AWAY! You know, you probably would do GREAT if you did not step on the scale and let it depress and discourage you. Drink plenty of water, stay off the scale and I bet you see a loss come Monday.
SOLLY: When my doctor called me to commend me on my progress in controlling my sugar levels, Tom and I theorized that most people who are diagnosed with type 2 diabetes are older, and set in their ways, and just want a pill to take care of it. Healthy lifestyle changes do WONDERS for glucose control. Exercise alone can make a huge difference. I wish I had known this two years ago, when I still had the chance to avoid the diagnosis, and avoid developing full blown diabetes. The Byetta injections are a wonder to me, but many folks would cringe at having to inject themselves. Many don't even bother to check their sugar levels. The complications of poor sugar control are too scary to me...blindness, amputation, heart disease, kidney failure. I would be totally disgusted with myself if I allowed my risk factors to increase out of laziness. Thankfully, dark chocolate doesn't raise my sugars TOO much!
Ok, now where is Country, Toni, Bob, Fillise.... (I KNOW where Talitha is!)
Well...the kiddos are off to school!
They were up and ready a half hour early... I wish that enthusiasm stuck around past the first day or two!! By next week I'll be dragging them out of bed and they'll finish getting ready while trying to catch the bus!
I found out my youngest (4th grade) will have to change teachers on Oct. 1st. The teacher they hired decided she didn't want to teach at the last minute, so the math specialist is teaching his class until they get a new teacher. He will love that since he's a math whiz... he will probably get along well with this temporary one!
MONET - I have quite an overactive imagination, too. When I read a piece of trivia about the average adult eating 8 spiders in their sleep over their lifetime, I didn't sleep for a month! EWWW!! Last night I just couldn't get comfortable, I was up and down, it was too hot in my room, it was too cold in my room. Plus, Dave snores. If I don't fall asleep first, it's like trying to go to sleep at the racetrack! Oh.. and I had my A1C level checked this week... my Dr. was sooooo proud.. it was 5.5! She said under 5 is normal for non-diabetics and they like to see under 7 for diabetics. Last time I had it done I was an 8 But I'm eating right and now that I've started exercising every day, I expect it to come down even farther! Once it comes down under 5 they will let me start lowering my meds even more. My goal is not to need them at all, just use good diet and exercise.
TECH - Keep your spirits up! The exact right job for you is out there, and you will find it!! We're all sending good thoughts your way!
KAYE - I LOVE Paula Deen!! I watch her show when I get the chance, and just love to watch her slather on the southern goodness! It cracks me up when her dog is laying on the floor and doesn't move for anything! Being an Alabama girl, I have a thang for that southern cookin!!
THIN - My oldest started his first day of high school today! I hope he enjoys it as much as Sean enjoyed his!
Where's BOB?? She better not make us send out a search party!
Wow.. the house is so quiet. Just me and the dog!! I think I'm going to Sams today. I want to get some frozen chicken breasts for taking to work when I go back. Also I want to see if they have the brand of bottled water I like. I'm on my last case! I'm going to Curves in a little bit, too.
Hope everyone has a fabulous day. I'll be back later. Going to get the laundry done before they day gets any hotter. 8am and already in the high 80's... sheesh. When is Fall again?
I'm off to a crabby start. Had a dr appt at 7:15, which went fine, and then these people at work are driving me crazy. My boss is such a procrastinator. And I mean really bad. I have something due today and need him for parts of it and he is doing everything but what he should be doing.
I may need a drink by lunch.
I had to work a little late so that made me late getting to the gym so we only could work out for 30 minutes. I wanted to grill burgers in lieu of tuna sandwiches so we had to rush to get to our Elks meeting.
Beth, oh an empty house. Sounds like you aren't going to get to enjoy it long today. It is so much nicer when kids enjoy school. I think they get more out of it too. eeks! 8 spiders, are you sure about that?
Monet, sorry you didn't sleep well again last night. I did get up 2 times to potty. Plus the dog has the whole bed.
KayeC, Is it hot there already? It is supposed to rain here tonight and tomorrow and cool down (86) on Sat. That will be a pleasant change.
Thin, Can't believe your kids are back in school. So glad they liked it, Sean anyway. Usually girls like it more than boys. Hope Rachel's day is better today.
Tech, sorry about the monitor's job. I too believe things happen for a reason, so hang in there, there is something better out there for you.
Better go see if I can light a fire under my boss. Have a great day
My resignation letter is done, signed, sealed, stamped and ready to drop in the box at the PO on my way to my meeting at the church. Oh yeah! I hope they get it tomorrow. If it doesn't get there until Monday, oh well, but I don't want to be mean.... I just don't want the frustration and stress!
I feel all shaky like I am hypoglycemic, but my glucose level was a healthy 100. Wonder what is up with that?
Well, I was just flying by to share about accomplishing something today...I better go!
OH....MY....GAWD!!!!! I MISS ONE DAY AND THE SEARCH PARTY IS ALREADY OUT??????? GEEEEEZZZ!
[FONT="Century Gothic"][SIZE="3"][COLOR="Green"]I'm not depressed, stressed, or thinking about doing myself in!!!! IN FACT, I had a really productive morning! I pulled in over $300,000 which is wonderful on my part!
BOB: You KNOW you love it...it makes you feel loved when you are missed. So did you pull in that $300,000 for yourself, or at your job? Cause if it was for YOU, we are going to lunch and YOU are buying!
Well, Kyle's ready for Kindergarten and had his SHOTS yesterday. GAWD, I HATE getting my kids shots. Kyle took it really hard and wiggled and now the one on one arm is bruised. I was crying as bad as he was. So, we made up for it by Derek taking him (us) out to Cracker Barrel, which is Kyle's favorite place these days, for dinner and let him order whatever he wanted, so he got a root beer float for dinner. Poor little muffin. And...they started on with the dreaded flu shots again. I'm telling you...if they make that mandatory for school, I'm homeschooling!! The end.
So, the heat wave is over. It ended yesterday. Thank goodness, now everyone can sleep upstairs. I had a good long cry about the job. I know, it seems excessive, but I started thinking about Kyle going to school in a month and realize my time at home with him is waning fast and I just dont' want to get a job that will have me needing a babysitter. Derek says I should just put off getting a job, that I've been a mom all these years, I should just take a break and relax for a while...but truth be told...I want to be home when the kids are home, but I don't want to be home when nobody's here. I'll go nuts!! Maybe I can redecorate my living room? Or WALK. But if I turn on the TV and stumble across Kyle's favorite shows with him not here, I'll go nuts! I'm so depressed....my baby's growing up. BUT, on the other hand...he's going to LOVE kindergarden. I just know he will. He absolutely adores other kids and is to outgoing. He's going to eat it up. So, I'm happy for HIM, but sad for me.
Anyhow...I have a cousin coming over to get a haircut in a while. Ishould get changed in case he comes over early.
Good Morning Everybody!! Well, the first day of school was a success! Both boys had a fantastic day. The oldest loves high school and the little one has some of his best friends in his class so he's happy!
SOLLY - Yep, I'm sure! Believe me, I read it over and over! 8 nasty, creepy, crawly little spiders!! Disgusting!
BOB - Hey.. if we don't keep close tabs on you, you might disappear on us! We don't want that to happen!
MONET - Bet you feel better now that you have that letter finished and mailed off!!
Well... I'm headed off to Curves and then to buy the gazillion school supplies that my high schooler found out he needs for his classes! Every teacher sent a different list.. thank goodness for lockers!
I took my neighbor/friend/massage therapist to IHOP for breakfast to celebrate her birthday, which was Sunday. I was bad! I got two scrambled eggs, grits AND hash browns! I did remember to take my meds! I just checked my blood sugar, and its LOW! If I did not have the Byetta, it would be in the 200's!
I weighed this morning and had lost another pound, so I changed my ticker and stuff. I am anxious to get into the next tens...Maybe by Monday!
TECH: I think you should listen to your husband. Take some time for YOU. Make walking a LOT your job. You will feel much stronger, and lose easier if you get more exercise. AND, how about writing that novel you said you were going to write when Kyle started school? Set aside some time every day like a job to write, and get it done! I think once you consider it, you know there is LOTS you can do to keep busy and productive without the kids around. There just are not enough hours in the day to do all I would like to do. (so of COURSE I don't do housecleaning!)
BETH: I am glad your kids liked school! I am glad you are liking Curves. I did it for over a year, and lost momentum when I had my hysterectomy...I never could get back into the groove after that. Then I got mad at the two women who own all the local Curves...they are uptight, and stuck on themselves, and treated my daughter terribly. I would go back if I could find one they did not own!
Fresh from my shower, I stand in front of the mirror, complaining to my
husband that my breasts are too small.
Instead of automatically telling me it's not so, he
uncharacteristically comes up with a suggestion:
"If you want your breasts to grow, then every day take a piece of
toilet paper and rub it between your breasts for a few seconds."
Willing to try anything, I fetch a piece of toilet paper and I stand in
front of the mirror, rubbing it between my breasts.
"How long will this take?" I ask.
"They will grow larger over a period of years," he replies.
I stop. "Do you really think rubbing a piece of toilet paper between my
breasts every day will make my breasts larger over the years?"
Without missing a beat he says, "Worked for your ***, didn't it?"
He's still alive, and with a great deal of physical therapy, someday he
may even walk again.
Checking in- Not alot going on. TGIF. The day is already busy. I decided not to weigh until Monday. I still look the same so I don't think I lost any. We'll see. I missed Wed and Thur.'s workouts. Had to get up at 5 to squeeze in a 30 minute workout this morning. I plan on doing the 3 mile tomorrow and the 4 mile(WATP tapes) on Sunday to get my 5 workouts for the week. Here's my menu for the day:
BF- was 2 boiled eggs and yogurt
Snack- dunno? maybe a large grapefruit
Lunch- I made a wrap. Used a LC tortilla, 2 slices LS turkey, 1 sl LS ham, onion, tomatoes, cukes, skipped the mayo and mustard. A few baby carrots and sf jello on the side. Oh yea, I also had a slice of cheese on the wrap.
Supper- I got chicken in the crockpot if we eat at home or I'll stay legal anyway if we don't
