I just recently made the switch from Atkins to SB also. I would like to encourage you. My husband is a Type II Diabetic also and while we were on Atkins his blood sugar dropped to normal within one week and after a month his doctor took him off the Glucophage. We switched over about a week ago and so far he is still holding it down.
I think that either plan is good for blood sugar. From my limited knowledge, what seems apparent to me is that in both plans you are cutting out the sugar which is 100% carbohydrate. So, in Atkins because it's low carb you are cutting out those sugars and in SB you're also cutting out the sugars . I am finding I am having more enjoyment from SB just by being able to eat the grain products and fruit. I've alway liked whole grain breads and cereals so this is easy for me. SB just seems more balanced to me and therefore healthier.
