Hi Leens
Sugar Busters is a diet based on the glycemic index. This is a rating of how carbohydrate foods affect the blood sugar levels and consequently raise the blood insulin levels. The theory is that excess insulin causes the body to produce fat cells, and consequently weight gain. To get a good understanding of this woe you really need to read the book "SUGAR BUSTERS! Cut Sugar To Trim Fat" by H. Leighton Steward and Sam S. Andrews (and others). Another book that explains this woe that I would recommend is "EAT YOURSELF SLIM" by Michel Montignac. Both these books should be available in your local library if you don't wish to buy them.
We eat foods from all the food groups but restrict sugar, refined foods, like anything made with white flour, white rice (except basmati). We eat whole grain bread, whole wheat pasta, brown rice, although all starchy carbs are eaten in moderation particularly during the weight loss phase. We eat lean meat, chicken, fish. Lots of vegetables and fruits, although there are some restrictions depending on the glycemic index of the food.
If you are not familiar with the glycemic index there is some good information on Rick Mendosa's websites if you would like to check it out.
