Good Rainey Morning Everyone! Another wet one here in SW LA. We're fixen to grow web feet in this part of the country with all this wet stuff. Had a good 5-6 " last weekend & they're saying another 3-4" today.

I went to the doc yesterday & was pleased to see a 3 lb drop on the scale compared to right before Christmas. Got a flu shot & woke up with a bad sore throat this am.

Good morning ladies.

Feeling a little icky today. I woke up at 3:00 with a horrible "charlie horse" in the side of my leg. It was very painful and lasted about 30 minutes. I felt very sick at my stomach during the episode. Then I had this very tight feeling in my chest. This is the 2nd time that has happened during the night. I think the charlie horse is from taking the water pills. I stopped and got some bananas on the way to work. my throat has been scratchy for 2 days, sure hope I'm not coming down with something.

We went to the gym last night. I got 30 minutes of cardio and 20 of wts. We will go again tonight. Hope I'm up to it by then.

Missy, Congrats on such a big win. I didn't see it all but what I saw was good.

Monet, I hope I'm not catching what you had. haha. Glad you are feeling better.

Toni, it seems all my doctor appts are in the same month too. I have one next week, one the next and 2 next month.

Rosalie, bowling, badminton and walking are great exercise. I am so proud of you.

Cole, as long as you have some bread you like, that is ok. I have only tried that kind when I first started SB and it seemed dry to me. To each his own.

Bob, Hope you had a nice reclining evening. Did you watch the sugar bowl? What a win.

Melf, we were posting a the same time. Congrats on your 3 lb loss. That is great. We are expecting rain here tonight. I just hate it. I think I am working on getting a sore throat too. Been sucking on sf cough drops and need to use some salt water.

Hi ladies. I slept in this morning so had a late breakfast of oatmeal and some OJ. I'm stuffed now. Have a doctors appointment in a couple of hours. I'm wishing it wasn't raining. ICK. I know we probably need the water. I'm hopeing tomorrow I start using the treadmill again. We'll see. I heard from a doctor on Racheal Raye's show that lemons are so good for you. The doctor drinks a 1/4 cup of lemon juice heated with some water every morning. He said its excellent for your liver. I may try that. I can remember my Grandmother starting everyday with a cup of hot lemon juice. And she lived to be ninety something.

Solly- I take lasix and my doctor has me take precription potassium tablets. That sure saves from those leg cramps. I'm sorry you're not feeling to good. Hope you shake this cold before it gets a hold of you.

Melf- Wow congrads on the 3 lb. loss. Thats great.

Cole- Great you're getting the book. I need to reread mine to make me get back to basics. Sometimes I think I stretch the program a bit and get off track. I sure need to pull myself in. Good luck.

Rosalie- Sounds like you're busy as usual. And making wonderful things to eat. Wish I had a mall nearby to walk in.

Monet- My gosh you made my favorite dinner. What kind of shells did you use for your enchiladas?

Bob- Your posts are a joy to read. They're so bright and fun.

Well the tree is down, packed away & ready to storage back in the attic when DH gets home. I've got some clothes washed & now I need to get the carpet vacummed. Still lots to do but needed a break.

Had tuna on WW for lunch.

Solly, where are you from? I noticed your profile doesn't say. Sure hope you get the best of that sore throat. I hate those leg cramps. They seem to come & go at lib. Sometimes it goes months in between, then they'll just show up out of the blue.

Toni, I agree, I think a hot lemon drink does allot of good for what ails you. Someone gave me a bunch of fresh lemons before the holidays & I enjoyed making hot tea & also just dropping a slice in my drink of tea or whatever. I also noticed that it acted like a diurectic! Hadn't noticed that before, have you?

EVERY BUDDY!!

TERRIBLE DAY!!! I didn't sleep but one hour last night and I have fought sleep all day....but I stayed at work....and worked!!! Believe me...that's just what I feel like I've done all day...It will be an early bedtime for me tonight!!

MONET...Kate told me when I got home today that she watched Rachel Ray this afternoon and the discussion was not sleeping and I don't know who was there talking, but they said when you can't sleep, go into the kitchen and bake yourself a potato and eat some of it...don't have to eat the whole thing, but then you go to bed and go right to sleep!

JACKIE...I watched the game off and on...I was watching FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS and then TOP CHIEF but flipping back and forth...It was a GREAT GAME!!!
Are you still taking lunesta? The last time I took mine, it just didn't work and I was up all night even after it had time to work.
As for your leg...don't you think it has something to do with your restless leg syndrome? I know you don't like to take medicine if you don't have to, but you should really talk to your Doc about REQUIP...now I can't take it...I tried, but it's just not strong enough for me...I take a Parkinson's drug and have for years.

TONI... Thanks...I try to insert something lively! How's your PUPPY??? Was it the DR on RACHEL who talked about eating the potato? I need to go on her website and see if I can find anything about it.

MELF...Y'all kill me with those trees. I don't even put one up anymore..we do everything over at Jeff and Tracy's with their little ones especially. I might get back into the mood one of these days... on those 3 pounds!!

COLE...Mine was like that too...nice and quiet...I don't even remember midnight!!! Glad you're getting the book. Be sure to ask questions after you read it because it can confuse you.

I'm still in contact with Sonya...we converse all the time as do I with SUSAN. SONYA and Vince got a divorce and she's as happy as a lark with her dog (who competes) and she still lives in ORLANDO...she bought herself a house and a new car and started her life all over again.

I'm off to fix something for supper...I still have pork roast from NYD that we need to finish up and I'll throw something together with it. I've got to go to the grocery...which I don't mind at all...I've learned to follow my list and not compulsive shop so much!

Hi everyone

Well I managed to get up early this morning. I was over at the mall at 7 a.m. for my walk. That's three days in a row. Hope I can keep it up. After that I went bowling then after lunch out shopping with a friend. We went to Costco and boy was it busy. We kept losing each other. Hooray for cell phones.

For breakfast I just had some left over rice pudding and lunch was leftover falafels and salad and one slice of bread. I've got some shrimp defrosting in water in the sink which will be going with a stir-fry and maybe some teriyaki sauce made with soya sauce, rice vinegar and agave for dinner.

Melf - Congrats on the three pound loss..

Cole - Happy reading. Another book that is worth reading after you have finished the SB book is "Eat Yourself Slim" by Michel Montignac. It's his ideas that Sugar Busters is based upon and he goes into more detail.

Solly - Hope you are feeling better tonite.

Toni - Hope everything went fine at the doctors appointment.

BOB - Hope you have a better night to-nite. I have some nights like that too and it's not fun. I was sorry to hear about Sonya and Vince breaking up. Please say Hi to her from me next time you are talking to her.

Well I had better get off the computer and go and fix dinner or else I will be eating at 10 o'clock again.

Howdy all; We just finished a dinner of salmon patties and broccoli. It was so good. I'm kind of wanting something sweet so I may make me a smoothie. Got my doctor's visit over and I'm glad to be rid of doctor's for awhile.

Bob- My puppy just turned a year old this week. I can't believe its been that long. He's still a little pain but we love him. Yes that was the potato doctor. I couldn't believe when he said that about the potato. But the lemon sounded good so I got me some today.

Melf- I didn't notice that about the lemon. It should really be good for me hearing that!

Well DH just left for work so guess I'll go finish cleaning the kitchen. Good evening all.

When life hands you lemons, wake up your liver!

"The lemon is the number one food you can possibly eat," says Dr. Brantley. Lemons improve liver function -- the liver cleans your blood -- and when your liver's happy, the rest of your body is happy and healthy too! "When I get up in the morning," says Dr. Brantley, "I take about a quarter of a lemon, squeeze it into a cup of warm water and drink it down. I give my right side a pat and say, 'wake up buddy!'"

Po-TAY-to, Po-TAH-to ... to sleep-O!

Potatoes are actually good for you. How good for you, of course, depends on what you add to them. The one thing that's great about potatoes is that they are a natural sedative. If you can't go to sleep at night or if you need to relax, make a baked potato! After you eat it, your body creates insulin which releases the amino acid trytophane (the same thing in turkey that has you hitting the couch on Thanksgiving) which creates serotonin to calm you down. Unfortunately, sweet potatoes don't have the same effect (but they do have other benefits).

Caffeine -- who needs it?!

These days, everyone needs an energy boost. Instead of a quick fix that will boost you up and drop you back down, take 1/2 to a whole tablespoon of raw honey -- it can't be processed in any way -- sprinkled with raw chocolate powder and cinnamon. The honey releases vitamins, minerals and amino acids; cinnamon feeds the pancreas to stabilize blood sugar; chocolate stimulates the brain. Put them all together, it's like "bang!"

Take it every day for two weeks when you hit a lull in the middle of your day and you'll have energy for four or five hours straight.

Mom was right about eating your oatmeal!

Oatmeal is a great food. It gives you sustained energy because it's slow-releasing. Add nuts or raw, essential oils to it for added benefits.

For women with hormonal issues, raw coconut oil is a dream. You can buy it at any health food store. Men should add walnuts for prostate health.

Pineapple on pizza? Absolutely!

Pineapple almost has a reverse calorie effect. If you eat it while you eat a particularly fatty food, it breaks down the fats and prevents them from getting stored in your body. So put some pineapple on your pizza!

To tell if a pineapple is ripe, look for the same size eyes from the bottom to the top.

How can I do my best to protect myself and my family this flu season?

To prevent it, stay away from things that are going to compromise the immune system. Things like processed foods and refined sugars lower your oxygen. When the oxygen is lowered in the blood, you're susceptible to parasites, viruses and infections.

If you do get sick and you have a sore throat, nasal congestion and infections or ear infections, get some raw, unrefined sea salt. Put it in warm water and gargle it to get it on your tonsils. The salt water explodes the "bad guys." Same goes for ear and sinus infections. For your ears: Turn to one side and drop the salt water in your ear. For your nose: Block one nostril and snort it up. Your eyes will water, your nose will run but it will knock out nasal infections.

As a breast-feeding mom, what foods should I be eating to give my daughter the best nutrition possible?

For production of breast milk, certain rice -- particularly jasmine -- work very well. Soak it overnight to sprout it to eliminate the allergens. Also balance your diet with lots of good-quality proteins and essential fatty acids and omega oils found in nuts and fish.

Other foods Dr. Brantley recommends:

For beautiful skin

Blueberries, which are high in antioxidants, help eliminate dry skin.

Wild salmon is rich in Omega 3 and 6 fatty acids, which feed nutrients to your skin.

For good sleep

Brown rice has a high concentration of Vitamin B. It eliminates insomnia by relaxing the nervous system and stabilizing blood sugars.

To reduce cold symptoms

Make a honey-onion syrup: Take 5-6 onions and 1/2 cup of honey. Cook on low heat for 2 hours. Strain and take 1 tablespoon every 2 hours. Onions naturally eliminate mucous throughout the body and lungs; honey lubricates and replaces vital minerals and nutrients.

Good evening, everyone! I just got in from North Georgia. There, I surveyed the damage the hard freeze did to all our stuff...and ended up crushing a bunch of cracked pieces. We spent just an hour or so throwing, as we had some planning to do. After lunch, we went to visit a few local potteries. One big one, that is very well known for great pottery is Mark of the Potter. We checked out the pieces there, oohed and ahed over the glazes, etc. The other pottery we wanted to check out was closed. We ended up in a rock shop which suited my daughter Ruth, who was with us. She makes jewelry, so she was excited to find some cool pearls and beads there. Ruth and my partner's daughter went down to groom the horses together, and then Ruth fixed lunch for us all. She made a chicken stir fry and some soba noodles. I went light on the noodles, since they are not 100% buckwheat, but the stir fry was delightful...full of chicken breast meat and lots of different veggies.

The drive home was totally in the dark, but it seems it is getting more manageable. It takes about 1.5 hours...

Solly, I got your piece done AGAIN. I hope this one makes it with no problems! I am pleased that it is the best one yet!

BOB, I did not get all your mugs done today, but will probably next week. It shouldn't be too hard. I have the glazes I need, so it will go quickly once I get them thrown.

I need to go get my ducks in a row here...after being gone all day there are things to do! I will check in tomorrow morning for sure!

Hi ladies! I've finally got my kitchen done. Both the painting and putting up the new border. We do have a problem though, my green is too bright! It's like a minty, lime green. I think I will get some cream colored paint and color wash over the green. THEN, maybe I'll be done!

I don't really have time for individual replies, but it sounds like everyone is doing great at getting back in the groove for the new year!
(Bob- Craig kept the frames he had and just got new lenses to replace the scratched ones!)

Morning! I slept VERY poorly...I woke up at 2, went back to sleep about 4, woke up at 5, feel back asleep about 6, then Tom woke me up at 6:30....I did fall back asleep until about 8:30..I have NO idea why! At 2:30 I got up and made a baked potato and ate a few bites of it like BOB's article said. It did NOTHING for me, so it doesn't work for me.

I am not sure what all is on the agenda today, but I think some cleaning is in order! I want to attack my clutter spots and reduce them! I hope to get a walk in too, but if not that, I will do the WATP tape.

I will be back in a bit!

Good Morning

Monet - Sorry you had such a restless night. I've heard before about eating a potato before going to bed but not about baking one in the middle of the night. How long did it take you to bake it? Or did you nuke it? I can't imagine sitting up for an hour waiting for a spud to bake..

I went out for my mall walk again this morning. I did the same three laps plus the walk there and back but was feeling a little tired and was glad to get back. Will probably have a break on the weekend and start again on Monday. This afternoon I have badminton but not sure if I will make it. If I can't get there at the beginnign of the session I may skip it as it gets so busy sometimes and then there is too much waiting around.

I'm having company for dinner tomorrow and have a cheescake in the oven for dessert. I'm making it with an almond crust for a change - usually if I make a crust I use hazelnuts. Hope it turns out o.k. I have some frozen blueberries and cranberries. I think I will combine them to make a topping. I found some fruit spread recently that was cranberry/blueberry combination and it is very good.

Have to go and check on the laundry. One load in the washer and another in the dryer just about finished.

Oops - I forgot a couple of replies.

Toni - How do you make your salmon patties? I have a recipe that uses sweet potato but if you have a different recipe I would like to share it.

Thin - My bedroom walls in my house were green. It was a nice soft green and I had a border with almost the same green and lavender and I loved it. Before I moved I was thinking I would paint the bedroom walls in my condo the same color but the whole unit was newly painted with a neutral color so decided to leave it for now. But it is very blah. Now with you talking about green walls its got me wanting green walls in by bedroom again. I'm not a painter myself - much too messy - but I have a friend who loves to paint and I know she would help me. O.K. so that means she paints and I watch and act as gofer.. Hope you can get your walls to the way you like them.
