  • Solly: Welcome back!! I'm sure you'll make fast work of that 14 pounds...did I read that correctly that 7 has already come off? I'm like you...completely SICK of the junk food and SO READY to eat right!
  • Good morning everyone

Monet - Sorry to hear that you are sick. Hope you are feeling better soon.

I didn't bother to post my weight yesterday as it has been so up and down lately. It can be 198 one day then the next day down to 194 then up again. Maybe I should just stop weighing every day. . Anyway now that the holidays are over maybe I can get back on track.

I went to the mall this morning before the stores were open and walked for 30 minutes. It's a very popular spot for walkers in the morning. It's very convenient for me now as I am in walking distance to the mall. I hope I will have the will power to get over there to walk at least three times a week. I was supposed to go bowling this morning after the walk but everyone was waiting in the parking lot when I got there - no one had shown up to open up. It happened once before when the young guy that works there slept in. Probably the same thing happened gain. So I went and did a bit of grocery shopping and came home. Maybe I will get some cooking done instead. I've got some chickpeas soaking. I want to make some falafels. They are good to have in the freezer for a quick snack. I might also make some bread in the bread machine.

    Bye for now.
  • Checking in... I have been sleeping a lot. It is nice to be able to be lazy and have an excuse, too bad I feel yucky! I had a can of chicken noodle o's soup and a few pretzels. I actually took my Byetta shot too. My bg is much better with the shot.

I got a phone call from my pottery partner...she has decided against going to school this semester, so we will continue our weekly work. Yay! We are going to structure it and push ourselves to learn new stuff, which is good. I need to come up with monthly assignments for us. It is going to be fun! Of course, to me, ANY time spent working with clay is fun!

I think I will wander downstairs and find some juice, or something. I am afraid to eat, but some juice sounds good.

Thank you all for your get well wishes. You are the best!
  • Monet, yes you read right, 7 pounds of water. I really can't figure out why I retain so much water. So yesterday I took 3 water pills and spent most of the day running to the potty. I will continue with 3 a day for this week and I should have it all off. All but the actual wt gain from the goodies. Soup is a good start. How about some crackers. That always seems to settle my tummy. Feel better.

Rosalie. How nice you are close to the mall so you can walk. No excuses now. Do you have a walking partner or just alone? Get you a pedometer and that will give you some motivation to walk more.

Just finished a nice salad, loaded with veggies, then some pineapple. Hope I can make it to dinner w/o eating. I'm sure the gym will be tough after missing 2 weeks.

Got to run. Have a great day.
  • Hey everyone! I am feeling a good bit better. I ate some ham, and had a couple diet cokes (for the caffeine) and while I still feel kind of weak, the bloating and stuff has subsided. I may not eat dinner, as I am not feeling like I have much appetite, and I just used it all on two pieces of lean ham! I guess I needed protein. I put in a load of laundry, so poor Tom will have something to wear to work. I need to go switch it to the dryer soon. I also got Laura to carry up the Christmas boxes and got all the ornaments off the tree. I hope to talk Tom into taking off the lights tonight and carrying the 'fire waiting to ignite' out of the house. Then tomorrow, I can clean up some, and feel like life is back to normal...whatever that is!

Just flying by. I really ought to go rest some. I have been up too long and I can tell!

  • HIDI HO BUDDYS!!!!

Gloomy day here on the west coast of FLA. Almost looks like winter out there! Hope everyone is having a great day, and MONET....FEEL BETTER...I hope you haven't got what I had...it put me down for over a week!

JACKIE.....WHOO HOO for the KITTYS!!!! That was some game...I'm so glad they won! I'm in mourning for my guys though...I swear, I think they must have stopped at a rest stop and a bunch of BOY SCOUTS got on in their place. They just didn't play! It was so boring that I went to sleep and missed most of the game!

MONET....Does this mean that I just might get my mugs for the wedding? If not, like I told you, when ever is fine with me. Don't feel like you HAVE to
have them ready. When they are ready, I still want to do what we talked about and send them straight to Evelyn's house. No sense in two different shippings. JUst let me know. I still want to do four and four though.

ROSALIE....I ABSOLUTELY LOVE falafels. We have a middle eastern "joint' not far from my house and I get them there with that special sauce..YUMMY!
Debbie took me to a place in Miami one time that I swear were the best I have ever had! How's your weather up there?

MELF...LOVE CRACKER BARREL, but have to stay away because I have a tendancy to slurp up chicken and dumplins!!! How's RUBY doing????

LAURIE...Do I need to drop by in the wagon and pick you up???? It will be crowded because all of us will be in there! Don't think about yesterday...jump into tomorrow...

I'm watching President Ford's funeral. I like that he chose a simple without all the hoopla service. I've always admired Jerry Ford...he stood up for what he believed in. He was just a GREAT MAN!!! May he rest in peace!

    BOB
  • Monet - Glad to hear that you are feeling better.

BOB -The weather up here is balmy. It's about 40 degrees here to-day and tomorrow will be even warmer. Usually this time of year it is often down to 0. The ski resorts aren't happy as it is even too mild for them to make artificial snow. Do you ever speak to Debbie? I often wonder how she is doing.

Solly - No I don't have a walking partner but I'm sure if I start going earlier in the morning I will see someone I know over there. If not I am fine walking alone - it's not like you are walking on the street. I did try a pedometer once but the cheapo one I bought in Walmart didn't work very well so I took it back. I just don't feel like paying the price for a good one.

So I got my bread made this afternoon. It's a caraway rye and of course I had to try it out while it was still warm and as usual one slice wasn't enough.. Oh well I will have to cut out the starchy carbs at dinner time.

  • It's finally made it up to 55 here today but my feet have never warmed up today!! I hate to be cold.

    BOB, who's RUBY??? LOL
  • ROSALIE: Oh! oh! I NEED the recipe for caraway rye in a bread machine! Will you share? I adore rye bread! (I am half Czech...my grandmother made Bohemian rye bread all the time!)
  • Whew just checking in. I'm so tired its a 3 hour drive to my heart doctor's and then of course 3 hours back plus a couple hours in his office. But everything went good. I have to have a chemical stress test in May. But I'll wait till it gets closer to then to be nervous about it. I ended up having 2 little cheeseburgers from McDonalds. I was so hungry I just gave in and ate them. But dinner was good, herb trout, sliced cucumbers, and some brown rice. I gained 2.5 lbs. over the holidays. I was a little surprised it wasn't more. Have to go to the big chair in the livingroom!!!

Monet hope you feel better. I'll post better tomorrow.... Hugs all...
  • Hey ya'll! My thinking and planning is over and now it's time to kick into high gear. I bought a spiral notebook today and I'm going to start a journal. It will be sort of a food, life, etc journal and I hope it will work. My plan is all about LIFE. L= is for lose weight. I don't have a number in mind, but just make steady progress would be nice. I= I'm important too! Try to incorporate more time and things for myself. F=Finances in order. I have some debts and things that really need to be handled and sorted out. E=exercise. I hope to be conservative and plan for 3-4 times a week, but more is great too. I'm going to spend the rest of this week sort of internalizing these ideas and getting my head back on straight. Then the progress can begin!!

Otherwise, I am working on removing the wallpaper border in my kitchen and I'm going to repaint hoepfully later this week. I have country blue and apples now and I want to paint a pale green and go with a fruity, tuscan feel. I have new border bought already, but it is crazy to get that stuff off the wall, so we'll see if I get it put up!!
  • Monet - Here's the recipe I used for the Caraway Rye Bread:

    1 ¼ cup lukewarm water
2 tablespoons powdered milk (I omitted this as I didn’t have any)
    1 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons molasses (I used agave)
    2 tablespoons butter or margarine
    ¾ cup rye flour
2 ¼ cups sgww hard flour
    1 tablespoon caraway seeds
    1 ¾ teaspoons yeast

Measure ingredients in the order listed into Baking Pan
Select GRAIN setting and 2.0 lb loaf setting

The grain setting on my machine (Black and Decker) takes 4 hrs 10 minutes but I usually use the quick setting which takes 1 hr 10 minutes. If using this setting increase yeast to 2 tsp. I also like to take the paddle out after it has finished kneading so I don’t have a big hole in the bottom.
  • ROSALIE: Thanks! Sounds good! I may increase the rye to one cup and reduce the sgww to 2 cups. I like a very rye bread..and dense is fine with me. I may try it on the dough setting so I can form loaves. My bread machine makes this huge loaf...and it is not a good shape for sandwiches at all! I never thought about taking the paddle out after it is done kneading. I may have to try that!
  • Happy New Year. New Year...Time for a New Me or just find the old me before kids. I am new to 3 Fat Chicks but I am looking for to being inspired by all of you. I bought the Sugar Buster book yesterday and I am almost complete with it. It definitely looks doable.
  • Maybee - and to Sugar Busters.

Monet - If you make the bread let me know how it turns out. That's a good idea to make it on the dough setting so you can shape your loaves. I may try it that way next time.
