Talking What are you reading?

I know, totally off topic, but sometimes it's fun to talk about things other than being OP! And I find that if I have a book in my hand, sometimes I forget to eat!

So, what are you reading right now? I just finished And For Starters... by Victoria Routledge. It's a British book that I picked up in a used book store. It was fabulous and I want to read her other books...but our local library doesn't carry them. I may have to invest in them from amazon.co.uk!

Now I'm reading A Thousand Acres. The book I have says it was made into a major motion picture with Michelle Pfeiffer and Jessica Tandy. I don't remember hearing about it...does anyone else? The book is written very well...very lyrical.

Tell me what you are reading!

A Thousand Acres came out awhile ago. Maybe 1998 or so? It didn't get a lot of marketing, but was supposed to be a good film.

What was that Brit book about?

I just finished reading a couple of Harlequin Temptations or Silhouette Desire novels. I get them all confused these days.

I'm still reading Michael Crichton's STATE OF FEAR and finished recently reading Dan Brown's (The DaVinci Code) other books - DIGITAL FORTRESS, DECEPTION POINT, and ANGELS AND DEMONS. All great books. I haven't read DAVINCI CODE yet, but I already don't think Tom Hanks is a good cast as the lead!

I read about three different books at the same time. I'll pick one up one day and another on a different day.

Already pre-order HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF-BLOOD PRINCE. D

I just finished reading A Salty Piece of Land by Jimmy Buffett (surprise, surprise...I'm a parrothead)! I'm now reading Where is Joe Merchant? by...yep, you guessed it...Jimmy Buffett. I'm trying to read the couple books he wrote but usually I get anything by Dean Koontz. I LOVE his books! I have his newest currently waiting for me to finish with my Buffett books.

Kissy, I don't think I've ever read Dean Koontz, but his books look intriguing. The covers are interesting. What are they like? Is Jimmy Buffett a good writer (of books...I know he's a great writer of songs! )

Chinky, I ordered Harry about three months ago. I love those books!!! I haven't read any Dan Brown yet. I read a review on Amazon of DaVinci Code that pointed out all the things that couldn't be true. It ruined it for me...I'd like to at least be able to believe it could be true when I'm reading. The brit book was about a group of friends who are dissatisfied with their jobs and decide to buy, renovate, and run their favorite local pub. It's really funny and very well written...the characters are amazing!

I love romance novels too! I picked up a couple of time traveling ones from the used book store, and they were really good. I'll have to look for more...

LC, I love Nora Roberts! Did you ever read her Irish trilogy that focuses around a pub...something like Tears from the Sun, etc.? It was wonderful! Was The O'Hurley's good?

Koontz books usually start out with 2 different main characters who are brought together somehow. Sometimes he gets a little sci-fi or horror-like but they are really suspense novels. I've read every single one of his books (up until a few recent ones that I just haven't had time to read yet) and they have all kept me on the edge of my seat. I have a really hard time putting any Koontz book down.

Most anything by John Saul is the same way. He's got some really great books out.

Jimmy Buffett does write some good songs and his books are like that. He's all about kicking back and sailing Mexico or the Carribbean. Sometimes I find that there are a few slow spots in his books. I also sometimes feel like there's too many different characters so it can be difficult to follow. Overall, I love the stories. They're just fun, not-a-care-in-the-world kind of stories.

I'm a reading fool. Besides magazines here is my book breakdown.

I just finished "He's Not That Into You" Surprise! It was great! Every single woman should read that book.

I'm reading "Fast Food Nation" right now because someone recommended it when I said I enjoyed the documentary " Super Size Me" It is a very revealing book - I'm not going to eat anything that has red food dye ever again.

Next up is the "prequal" to the Left Behind series. I think that may be a beach reader!

I bought a diet book called "The Neanderthal Diet" about how cavemen used to eat. (It was 80% off at the low carb store - couldn't resist)

I've got Dr. Laura's "Woman Power" that someone gave me for Christmas. Haven't dived into that one yet. But I did enjoy her "Proper Care and Feeding of Husbands" even though I don't agree with everything she says. I read it after I got divorced and realized I did everything wrong.

My therapist says I need to get some daily meditation books so I have a list and I'm going to the book store tomorrow. I bought a book on HOW TO DO MEDITATION - apparently I wasn't following directions. Better meditate on that one for awhile.

This is a fun thread! Thanks Laurie!

I love most of Nora Robert's books, especially her Irish trilogy and the Key trilogy was good, too. I just started reading Robin Pilcher's newest book, A Risk Worth Taking. I love his mother, Rosamunde Pilcher, and have read all her books. Her son has the same writing style.

I like Nora Roberts too... the last three books I read I really loved and would recommend them to anyone... James Patterson ...Suzanne's Diary for Nicholaus and Sam's Letters to Jennifer. Mitch Albom's 5 people you meet in heaven. These were three that I just couldn't put down.

I love everything Nora Roberts has done including the ones she wrote as JD Robb. But I think I have read everything she has put out in paperback.

Right now I am reading a Forgotten Realms sci fi/fantasy book. They aren't the best reading but I'm going to get rid of my entire collection of Forgotten Realms at the Cub Scout garage sale (just over 100 paperbacks) so I wanted to finish the last one I had.

Great thread- I love, love, love to read!! It seems to be taking me longer to get through books lately as I fall asleep quickly!

I borrowed some "Chick Lit" from a girlfriend- so that is what I am currently working my way through. I just finished Lucy Sullivan is Getting Married and another titled Best Friends. I just started another called Fishbowl last night.

I am not a huge romance reader, but really like Nora Roberts as well. Her storylines and settings are always good.

Laurie- I like A Thousand Acres- is that by Jane Smiley? She has written a few others too.

An author I would really recommend it Barbara Kingsolver. Now, in my PISS (pregnancy induced stupidity syndrome ) I can't remember a single book she has written, but know that they were ones I could not put down!

Book update!

I went to the bookstore yesterday and bought a book on henna tattoo's, the history of, how to do them, designs and ink. We always do fun stuff on vacation like get nuts with sidewalk chalk - one year it looked like some horrifying massacre had taken place outside the motel except it was all Easter color sidewalk chalk There are about 10 families that go plus all the hotel kids (from Alabama ) and the air force guys from Pensecola usually get involved. This year maybe I'll do sidewalk chalk and henna tattoos. Cheap fun.

I also bought the book on daily meditations that I was supposed to get

Then I got a book on "Up dating" - dating out of your league - I couldn't resist.

Happy reading.
