Red face Need help with EXERCISING.....

I am beginning my 2nd week of Phase I today. I am doing well with the food but so so with the exercise. I try to walk for about 20 minutes each day and that is about all I can do...it really tires me out because I am so out of shape (I weigh 230lbs) I would love to add something different like an exercise video but I need something that I will be able to do.....a beginner video I guess. Does anyone have any recommendations? I am home with the kids all day and taking them walking doesn't really work...unless you like walking slow as a turtle.LOL. I have a nice size area to exercise in so a video or dvd of some sort would be great. Oh....and I have lost 5 lbs since starting...YEAH!!!

Thanks
Debbie

Default You're doing great!!

You sound like you're doing a great job with your walking...Stick with it, as it is sooooo beneficial to your weight loss, and your overall mood.

I know that several people have really benefited from the Leslie Sansone "Walk Away the Pounds" videos. She has a bunch of different series, but caters to all different fitness levels. I believe the beginner level is a 20min "walk", and is equivalent to 1 mile. It is all a variation on walking in place...as you progress to more difficult levels, she incorporates arm movements, and squats, and marching, and side-stepping to "pump it up" so to speak. Some of her videos incorporate resistance bands. Maybe your local library might have some of these to try out before you decide to buy

Hope this works for you

Chickies, I've found the exercise goal thread to be very motivational. I get excited thinking that I can post my minutes. Check it out...it's 'stuck' at the top of this forum.

Edith, great advice, and welcome! I was going to suggest Walk Away the Pounds too!

Debbie, I think it's GREAT that you realize how important exercise is to better health (and weightloss). Are you still in Phase 1? During Phase 1, it can be hard for even the most veteran exerciser to continue exercising. But by Phase 2, your energy is back, and you can get going with much more vigor! You might enjoy trying a Yoga/Pilates video. I have Denise Austin's which has a 20 minute workout. It's very vigorous, but you are lying on your back for almost all of it, so it doesn't seem as hard to me as some of the other workouts I've done. It strengthens your core (stomach and abs) muscles and you do raise a sweat doing some of the exercises!

You might also look into a water aerobics class in your community. These are much easier on your body (especially because much of your weight is held up by the water), don't really feel like exercise, but are great conditioning and toning. Plus, they are lots of fun!

Keep us posted on what you decide to do!

Debbie, Congrats on your five pounds weight loss! That's awesome! I love Leslie Sansone Walk away the pounds tapes. You can start with the 1 mile which is 15 minutes....then the 2 miles for 30 minutes...etc... I don't know anyone that doesn't like her tapes...

Hi

Good going on the exercise. The Walk away the pounds tapes are great. I also still love my Richard Simmons Sweating to the oldies. He makes you feel so happy to be exercising. When you are ready to add some weights try Denise Austin, she is a good place to start.
Good Luck.

Hi,
If you are looking for exercise videos at beginner level, here are a few I recommend:

~"Walk Away The Pounds-Get Up And Get Started"
(This is a beginner level 1 mile video. It uses optional 1 or 2 pound weights or weighted balls in half of the video)

~"You Can Do Yoga" or "You Can Do Pilates"-Leslie Sansone
(These are beginner level yoga and Pilates videos by Leslie-they are very basic and meant for beginners-there is nothing more frustrating than buying a video and realizing you are WAY too out of shape/inflexible/weak to even get through 5 minutes of it! )

~"Yoga For Dummies/Pilates For Dummies/Getting In Shape With Weights For Dummies"-these videos are geared for beginners of each kind of exercise as well-and not only are they beginner level, they thoroughly explain proper form, what each exercise is working or stretching-and give you basic "information" on the kind of exercise you are doing.

~"Bellydance Fitness For Beginners-Basic Moves" If you are interested in a belly dance workout, this one is probably the most basic. There are a lot of videos that are meant for someone who knows the basics...this one is for newbies.

~Denise Austin "Get Fit Fast" series (a video each for upper body/lower body/abs) These videos are sold online at Amazon, or Collage Video. They each are a 10-15 minute strength training segment for upper body, lower body, or abs-depending on which one you buy. What is nice about them, is that each video has three segments-beginner, intermediate, and advanced. You start with the beginner segment, and after a little while of doing it you can move up to doing the next segment when YOU are ready.

I hope some of these suggestions help.

Richard Simmons has some new tapes called Blast Off, they're great! Blast and Tone is a fun tape using weights.

Mom2Twinz,

You look so much like Sherry Stringfield who plays Dr. Susan Lewis on ER! Has anyone ever told you that?
