Default New here!

Hello everyone! I just started south beach with my parents on Tuesday and have already lost 8 pounds!! We heard about SB from my dr and am soo glad he told us about it! i already dont have many cravings and definately have the motivation to lose the weight! We bought the book and cookbook and that has helped but I only have 1 more week of break before I go back to school. I am not sure what I can take for lunch. I don't have access to a microwave and it has to be already prepared and ready to eat. Any ideas? This would b a huge help! Thank you!

Hi Emma,

Sounds like you will be on Ph 2 by the time school rolls around. You can bring a salad, sandwiches, veggies, hummus, cheese, lots of different options! Buy a lunch box with room for an ice pack and you should be good to go!

to both you and Diane!

Welcome! Do you have access to a fridge or cooler or lunch bag that keeps food chilled? If so, you have lots of options. Salads with protein, hard boiled eggs, cold cuts, tuna/chicken in a can or pre-made with something, nut butters... Think outside the box.

Yay, another Emma on The Beach!

One idea for lunches: I bought a special container for salad that has a main compartment, and smaller one in the lid for dressing and/or nuts, etc to be added later. It has a little gel freezer pack that inserts in the lid as well to keep everything cold and a fork and spoon fits in the top. I found it at Ross for like $5. Totally worth it! I often bring kale salad, dressed (it gets better as the kale wilts) or caeser salad, undressed.

Also I use a small insulated bag with a gel freezer pack to bring celery sticks, hummus with cut up veggies, etc etc. I often bring cups of instant dried black bean or split pea soup - if you have a way to get hot water (even the hot water from a water cooler works).

In Phase 2, if I am on the go, I pretty much wrap anything in a 100% whole wheat tortilla - banana with natural peanut butter, cheese with spinach or broccoli slaw, tuna salad with romaine lettuce, etc etc. This transports really well.

EmmaRochelle and Diane! We're happy to have you both joining us here on The Beach.

Our Beachers have provided lots of helpful suggestions for lunches, and one of my favorite take-alongs is roasted chickpeas. Also, we like to wrap slices of lean deli meat and lowfat cheese around celery for a satisfying and crunchy snack. Apple slices with peanut butter are great, too.
