well went to the wrong gym today for the strong class I was hoping to take so I actually got suckered into Step 2 with one of my friends. I am just so not rhythmically constructed! Well I got a good workout though and tomorrow I'll do my bootcamp. A very cardio based workout week, next week I have to get some strength training in or I'll lose my big musk-kuls, lol

Hey Gals! I am back from Barra!

I am both bummed and relieved that my 14 mile bike ride turned into about a 3mile one. My DF's bike broke down about 3 miles into the journey and was unrepairable. I went back to the bike shop with him so didn't complete the route. The island was more hilly than expected and mile 2 was really strenuous, just a long steep hill. I was worried about my asthma and was thinking I wasn't going to make it when his bike broke. The rest of the group trekked on and when they came back they said there were a few serious hills and that they all had to get off and walk their bikes at some point. I actually felt happy about that because I thought walking your bike was for whimps and this group was not whimpy whatsoever! I guess that means it's okay for me next time then .

The rowing was a bust too because of choppy seas and the price was a little expensive. We ended up doing alot of walking and some minor hill climbing. It was nice, but not the butt-busting trip I had in mind.

A portion of my gym is supposed to be reopened, I will check that out tomorrow. I really hope so because my arms have been feeling fab lately and I don't want to lose the muscle I've built.

As for all of you
Jayde and Batmom - glad to see you both movin!
Sherry - I'm glad you are around, we missed you! What a bummer about your foot...I really hope it's not arthritis. I have been worried about my hips lately. I'm not sure what arthritis feels like though so have just been trying to 'mentally' tackle the problem. It's been getting worse though....Let us know what your doc says.
Mummy - At least you are moving and maintaining, don't get too sad
JmTank- Welcome!
Sissy- How was your 4th?? Wonderful I am sure. I'm glad to see you are getting into the excercise, it never hurts.

Okay, that's it for me. I'll be checking in soon.

hey for anyone with joint pain-like knees, hips, feet, etc; don't skip getting checked out but you may want to look into taking gloucosamine or gloucosmine chondritin vitamins. A runner friend recommended them to me, as did my trainer and class instructor.

I was also told to get the liquid form b/c it gets in your system faster but I had already bought the vitamins. But they're not cheap...Since i"ve been taking them, I do notice that my knees ache less. worth checking in to.

**I am not a doctor, nor do I play one on tv

Hi there!

Welcome back, Angela! Sounds like the trip was fun, but too bad (?) about the bike ride. Hope your gym re-opens soon; if not, try push-ups and chair dips to keep your arm muscles.

Regarding your hips ... don't know what to tell you. Mine ache occasionally and I just ignore it (not good advice), and I just started taking glucosamine but understand it takes a while for it to start working. If yours are getting worse, you might want to get checked out because it could be any number of things.

Saw the doc again yesterday re: my foot. The x-ray did not reveal anything and he thinks it could be a hairline fracture that did not show up or tendonitis. Will be getting an MRI to determine what's going on. Meanwhile, he told me not to do anything that will put excess weight or pressure on my foot until we know what the problem is. So my exercise options are extremely limited now and this is what I'm doing until the foot is better:
  • I'm not supposed to swim, but will continue and use only my arms. I plan to buy a pull-buoy to keep my legs afloat while only pulling. Otherwise, I will get no cardio.
  • Swimming while using only my arms will be a good upper body workout, so I will probably ditch the weights until I can work my lower body (don't want to strengthen unevenly).
  • Will focus on my core area with pilates and floor yoga.
I still haven't given up the idea of the sprint triathlon in October, but will re-assess later in July.

Welcome, jmtank. Even if you don't lose those extra pounds you will firm up and therefore feel and look better.

Hi everyone!

I've been on vacation for a week but am proud to report that I got a one week membership at a local gym and worked out five times while away. I'll finish week four tomorrow of my couch to 5k training program and am waiting for Turbo Jam to arrive any minute. I'm ready to rock July!

It sounds like everyone is picking up the pace. It's good to be back. I felt lost without you guys. Here's to a great July!

Hey exercise mamas!!

I have been posting on the summer challenge but wanted to say hi. I am dreading the gym today, not for any particular reason but just don't feel like going. I wanted to post quickly that I AM going so I have no excuses and will get there.

Batmom - thanks for the tip on gluclosamine. I've been taking it for a year now and have seen a difference.

And Sherry - keep up with the gluclosamine, it's good stuff.

Keep up the good work ladies!!

Angela

Default just checking in

Where are all the exercisers??

As for me, not doing too much. Found out the foot pain is from a stress fracture and am supposed to limit movement until it's completely pain-free, which could take up to 8 weeks. Ugh.

Meanwhile, am doing very limited yoga (seated and lying poses) and limited ab work. It's amazing how even working the core puts pressure on the feet! And really trying to watch what I eat since I am not burning nearly the calories as I was.

Hope you're all so busy exercising and preparing/eating healthy foods that you're just not posting.

Hey Sherry...

Yoga and ab work... that answers the question I asked on the other thread! Glad to see you are taking care of your foot yet still working out.

Sitting down with free weights and doing arm and shoulder stuff... is that not a good idea?

I'm exercising and behaving myself... just not posting here regularly. But I'm popping in now and then.

Keep moving ladies (and any gentlemen lurkers)
