The sun is trying to shine... I'm getting out for my lunchtime run in a bit - I'm just going to do a short circuit because I need to practise my kickboxing (belt test thingies again!).
Oh I had a GREAT weekend - ate cleanly and everything AND I'm DOWN 2LBS!
This week I'm going to try and fit in some more weights... Not sure when, or how, or where, but I'm gonna try!
Just checking in over my dinner/lunch/meal 3 (bowl of soup, 4 oatcakes and a lot of raw veg). Been to the gymn. The supersets are still going well. 45 mins of steady state cardio (dearie me, it is tedious).
We went swimming yesterday. It was good and I did leg exercises in the pool.
Well done, frus, on a clean weekend and very good weight loss! Will you be my role model for the week?
Congratulations, Fru! Can I use you as my weekend poster-girl, too? My weekend was tough. I just plain fell apart from exhaustion and the stress of having dh in the hosipital (he's fine now) and having to deal with ds in the middle of his exams had a science competition, plus go to work every day. This stuff used to be easier
I got in good workouts both days, but did you know you could make apple-peanut butter-granola burritos? (on a whole wheat tortilla, of course!) Not a terrible choice given the array of dreadful food out there, but in sufficient quantity to leave me bloated and depressed.
Saturday I did my first really good bis and tris workout in ages, thanks to the wonders of cortisone. I'm a little concerned that when and if this stuff wears off I may be in worse shape, but for now the pain in my arms is gone for the first time since January! Sunday I did a long treadmill run and I wish I had bought an elliptital Can I be dipped in cortisone?
Er... ok I can be your role model, but you have to do some kickboxing in the car park on your lunch break!
Just ran round the block at a fairly decent pace, then came back and did some kicks. I suck royally Ack it can only get better! I'm going to do some weights tonight - I am I am I am, even if it's just 4 exercises, I am GOING to do some weights!
Yesterday, I went on a nearly 4 mile hike which lasted nearly 2.5 hours. Breakfast had been 1/2 cup grape nuts with less than 1/2 cup of soy milk. Snacks on the trail were 1 natural pb sandwich with 2 slices of whole wheat bread (light on the pb), 1 banana and a little homemade trail mix (assorted nuts and raisins). Tired and hungry, dinner was out... at an italian restaurant... and we had pizza with 1 meat and rest veggies. Also had a salad to go with the pizza. I also had 2 slices of pizza, which is probably the smallest portion of pizza I've ever had.
Not the greatest dinner but wasn't bad and really it was worth it
I really enjoy my hikes, I can see vast improvements from one to the next. The one we went on yesterday had a lot of rocky parts and quite a bit of climbing. One particular point I enjoyed was where we had hiked 1 mile to get to this area where people can drive to. At that point, you walk up hill to a waterfall. There was a couple behind us that were complaining all the way up. I enjoyed that in that the up hill climb wasn't hard for me even though I had already been walking a mile to get to where they had driven to.
Anyway, the weekend was fun. Full of good foods and not so good foods Also full of activity though as well.
Nelie, I think your weekend sounds utterly fabulous! I love to hike and be outside. And I think your meals don't sound bad at all, although I don't know how you trekked 2 1/2 hours on those parsimonious meals. I would have perished.
Frus and Silver, congrats on your successes! And Mel, why didn't we think of that before: dipping in cortisone. Sign me up!! But be careful that you don't overdo, eh!
We don't seem to have a "favorite books" sticky, and I've got a new favorite book: "Strength Training Anaomy" by Frederic Delavier. I can't remember where I first saw reference to this, but I think it was ExRx. It is sensational.
Delavier is described as an author and illustrator on the cover, and it's that "illustrator" that's the key. This book is full of beautifully detailed line drawings of people lifting weights. Each drawing shows you precisely what muscle is being worked at any given point, and in so doing, provides the best rationale I've ever seen for proper form. He divides the book into the usual sections (arms, chest, back, etc.) but the treatment is anything but usual. Like many of you, I have lots of books, but this is the one I go to now. Incidentally, although there's a man on the cover, there are many drawings of women inside. I can't recommend this enough. It's great for beginners and veterans.
Mel - I hope things will go better!
Frus - Sounds like you are in the groove!
I had a reasonable good weekend. No excercise, not so good on clean food, but I did not binge either. Considering that I first had sleep over party for DS, followed by a mild panick attack I think that is OK.
Tonight I will go to the power workout again, and i must try to put in more meditation time. I think I am tense, I have a constant stomach ache and studpidly I try if it goes away if I eat. NO. So its probabely just stress and I need to de-stress a bit.
I had an awesome back workout this evening. It feels great! Biceps was a bit weinie tho'.
I made a goal to bike in April but I should have checked the weather first. It's snowing!
Susan -- PUHLEEZE keep your dang snow... It's been so gorgeous here although we had some rain this afternoon...
Robin -- That book looks really good, I've added it to my wish list of books at amazon along with the 3FC book... On Amazon they have a book for "Women's Strength Training"
Mel -- Get well soon girl!! I know I've been slow in reading the posts but why was your dh in the hospital?
Lyn -- Get some sleep and you'll be good as new tomorrow...
Nelie -- Your hike sounds fabulous!! And I agree with Robin, I would not have survived "on those parsimonious meals" I would have fainted from weakness, I don't do well with no food...
Today no workout my whole day just started out so weird... My plan was to go to a clinic to get my annual blood work done, and as I mentionned I don't do well with no food and I had for "fast" for 12hours... Can you say C.R.A.N.K.Y.??... I get to the first clinic around 9am because I had heard that this is the time in the morning that they slow down, I almost fainted when I walked in the door, there were at least 50 people ahead of me , it was HOT as heck in there too, no sitting room, I walked in, I walked out , I have NOOOOO patience when I am hungry and craving a coffee ... I went to the other clinic at the other end of town, there were 5 people ahead of me, that made me happy and there was at least sitting room, these clinics are so damn small, I have no idea why ... I still waited an hour because there was only ONE girl/nurse to answer the phone, take the blood, fill the forms, give ECG, etc... can you imagine... By the time I got out of there I had a massive headache from coffee withdrawal , I am so pathetic sometimes ... Afterwards I headed home to make my coffee since I didn't have a dang cent to buy a Tim Horton's coffee ... I had to be VERY careful not to binge once I got home too because 12+ hours with no food could easily have done that to me, but I didn't and the rest of the day was good food wise...
I have great new my DS has been accepted to the University of his choice in Nursing!! I was sooo happy for the him, PLUS this course is given in town here, he didn't want to move away to take it ... another bonus is that it will save us $$ because he'll live at home ....
Ilene - that sounds like a nightmare! You should've "fainted" and theyd've done your tests sooner! Well done for your DS too!
Well life got in the way of my routine yesterday, but my head was still in the game! My Mum & Dad called in town and we went out for dinner. I had a salad! With bread and dressing - but still a SALAD! And I was very restrained after that too! However I blew off kickboxing and I didn't do any weights since we didn't get back till late. Anyway I will do some weights tonight.
I've got a nice stir-fry for lunch with chicken and I'm off for a good run around the park - I might double the loop today if I'm feeling energetic!
I'm feeling SUPER today I need to spread some super around let's hear about your good day!
Today will be a challenge. I'm really dragging already. One client in about an hour, then LEGS. Wohoo!
Somehow I booked 6 clients in a row. That's 6 hours of dragging weights and benches around with no break. What was I thinking? I'm supposedly in charge of my own scheduling so I have only myself to blame, but I'm sure not looking forward to this afternoon and evening. I need to be careful about crossing pathes with food after that! I love training each client, but when I look at the whole day, it's kind of daunting.
I thought I'd come and introduce myself because I've started lifting. (Although I already know some of the UK chicks.)
I bought the Body for Life book and have started doing the weight and cardio training. He should mention in that book how you'll feel after the first time you do each training session. My gluts and inner thigh muscles are on FIRE!
