Hi PJ,

I am fairly new to this site too, and like yourself I weigh over 300 lbs. I have just got through my first week using the WW points system and so far so good. Have no idea what weight I lost because I stay away from the scales. They are often my downfall when it comes to my diets of old failing. I am glad you found this site, there are so many wonderful people here that are so supportive. We are going to stick to our diets this time, we are going to get to goal, and we are going to keep thinking positively.

Hugs,

Ammi

Thanks Ammi for your welcome and support! I need to know that there are others out there over 300 pounds and trying to lose weight. It is just not the same when a 150 pound person is trying to lose 25 pounds and I am trying to lose 150+ pounds.

I know what you mean about the scale. It tends to be a downfall for myself as well. I did weigh myself this morning and will try to stick to weighing myself only weekly.

Congrats on completing your first week of WW!! That is great! I wish I had the time and money to join myself, but I know what to do and with the support from here, I know i can be successful!

Here is to a great day!!

hi, whats SAHM? sorry to seem ignorant. I was over 300lbs, now I'm 270lbs, its hard to work out, we brits work in stones& my maths is'nt up to scratch!
It's even harder to shift thweight, lose a pound or two, gain a lb, coz of being bored/fed up/lonely/period due/kids being naughty/hubby doing lots of overtime & being too tired to talk to me, sob! Still there's lots of support to be found here, everyone has a prob with food/weight and reasons for it.

regards,
sharon

Hi Sharon and thanks for your words of wisdom! You seem to have mentioned many of my "excuses"! You know me well!

Sorry about the SAHM thing. It stands for stay at home mom. I do not think you seem ignorant either! There was a time when I had no clue what that meant either!!

AS for the pounds/stones things, ya got me! All I know is that if I were using youir method, I would have to use BLOULDERS!!! LOL

Congrats on losing all of those STONES so far! That is fantastic! What are you doing, any specific plan? What do find most helpful to your success?

I wish you continued success with all of your personal goals! Thanks again!

Hi PJ - I know just what you mean about it being good to diet with other people who have the same weight to lose as you. I know it's hard for anybody to lose weight, but sometimes it seems impossible when you think we don't need to lose 20 lbs we need to lose over 100. Still let's take it a lb at a time and we will get there in the end. By the way I don't pay to go to WW. I bought a calculator from their online shop to work out my points, and I just do it myself at home. I sometimes go to their online community to chat to other people following the diet, but mostly I come here for support.

Hi Sharon - I get all muddled up trying to work out the pounds thing. I know easily that 14 stone is 140 lbs, so I try to work it out from there lol. Well done on losing the 30 lbs (2 stone and 2 lbs) How long has it taken you?

Good luck to you both, and me, lol, on our diets, we WILL do it this time.

Hugs,

Ammi

Here's a link to a handy Stones to Pounds conversion calculator.

Hope it helps.

Hi again, shows how rubbish my maths is, I've lost 3 stone it's 42lbs, wow that sounds like loads! Im a stay at home mum too, my middle child is mildy autistic so I need to be close to him, he keeps getting ill, hopefully when he's at school full-time in Jan I can try & find something part time, as long as childcare for my youngest son is'nt too expensive!

Being at home I think makes it harder to lose weight, you're stuck with the housework & no reason to dress up just put some sweats on. On the rare nights out I feel like crying when I look at myself in the (full length) mirror. So I'll cheer up, any news or tips anyone?

regards,
sharon

Forgot to say I'm foolowing slimming world, I don't think it's out in the US. RED days are UNLIMITED lean meat, veggies (except for peas & beans) fruit, very low fat yoghurt & low cal/low sugar drinks. Green days (my fav) UNLIMITED fruit, veggies (all) spuds, pasta (no fatty sauces though!) rice and low fat/ very low cal noodles. You're allowed two A choices, milk or cheese (for calcium) two B choices, on RED thats spuds, brown rice, some breakfast cereals or wholewheat pasta, these are portion controlled. On Green A is the same, B choices are lean meats or cereals.

Sharon, 30 lbs was amazing, but it's 42, even better. Well done you. Did you lose it all on Slimming World's diet? I don't like to be given lists of what I can and can't eat, that's why I prefer the WW diet using points. I can eat what I want then. Mind you, on diets of old where I might have saved points for a Mars bar, I did get fed up of people saying, hey, I thought you were dieting. They all think dieting means living off salad.

I know where you are coming from when you say you could cry when you are all dressed up for a night out and you look at yourself in the mirror. I am the same. You feel beautiful in your fancy clothes, then you see yourself, and that feeling of beauty soon goes. I look forward to the day when I look in the mirror and like what I see.

Take care,

Hugs,

Ammi

Question Sharon

Sharon, 42 pounds is a lot! Congrats!! That is awesome!

No I have never heard of that diet you are doing. Hasn't gotten to the states yet. It does sound interesting though. I am with you and would love those green days! Do the red and green days alternate every other day or weekly? Sounds liek something I can get a hang of doing! I love, love, love my pasta! That is where I messed up last night. I ate too much pasta that I was making for the kids, yeah right! Oh well. Today is a nother day!

Sharon, if you don't mind my prying, may I ask about your son with mild autism?? I have suspicions that one of my little boys is on the autistic spectrum as well. I know this is one of the things that has been getting me down lately. If you don't feel comfortable putting that info on the forum, please send me a private message or email me. Thanks!

Oh Ammi do I know what you mean about looking in the mirror! I avoid it at all costs. I don't feel that bad if I don't see myself in the mirror or window reflection walking around.

A few weeks ago I was at a party with my daughter for one of her classmates. I happened to catch a glimpse at myself in the mirror in the bathroom. I was HORRIFIED to say the least!!
I was plain disgusted. My butt stuck way out, my shirt couldn't cover my belly over hang, it was disgusting!! After that I was so depressed that when I left there I stopped at not 1, but 2 fast food joints to feed my grief. Yeah like that helped!! I still can't get that image out of my mind. I haven't looked in full length mirror since then. I really felt that I had no business going out in public looking like I did.

Hopefully I am changing all of that now. I have lost a few pounds and have a long way to go. But it is not going to change unless I change it. Stuffing my face will not help.

Ok sorry didn't mean to go on a rampage there........

PJ you are on the right track now. You didn't like what you saw in the mirror and now you are doing something about it. I have another problem when it comes to what I see in the mirror, I have an ostomy (have to poo in a bag, sorry if that was too much info lol). Anyway I have gained weight recently, prior to this diet, and all my supposedly baggy t-shirts, the biggest ones I can buy are snug on my belly now instead of loose. I can't wear them if the bag shows through, so I have just the odd one or two tops that are suitable. I hate looking in the mirror, and even moreso seeing that bag. I think mirrors should be banned lol.

Seriously though, you and I, and all of us here are on track now, and one day we are going to look in the mirror and think WOW, is that me. Thinking of that gets me through the day when I feel hungry, or when I am tempted to comfort eat.

Take care and remember WE CAN DO THIS!!

Hugs,

Ammi

So sorry about your 'bag' (please don't be offended) do you look in catalogues at men's tees, they often go up loads bigger than women's, I have several!
It's a shame we all live so far apart, we could have met up over drinks (diet ones, with a brandy/vodka/malibu, whatever thrown in!) I feel sorry for myself but there are so many people living with 'bad things' in their lives, we have to support each other & hpoe that things will improve and count our blessings, even the small ones! OH GOD I sound so icky, but you know what I mean, it comes from the heart.

sharon
