Question I Want That Body

Has anyone ever used Tamilee Webb's "I Want That Body" total body workout tape?? A friend of mine gave me hers because she bought it on DVD and didnt need the VHS anymore. So far, I'm doing it on Mon, Wed, and Fri. I've done it for 2 weeks. I didnt like it the first time because I didnt feel like it was a good workout. I changed my mind when I was sore the very next day. Now, I actually love it because the 30 min FLIES by. Seems more like 10-15 min so I know I'll keep with it. Just wondered if anyone is familiar with it and what are you opinions about the workout itself?

Thanks!
Miki

PS....I walk 3 miles or more taking 14 min per mile on the days that I dont do the tape.

Hi Miki! Sorry, I haven't heard of it but if it's a lifting video I'd be interested. I'm always open to new ideas. Tell me about it. What kind of results has your friend experienced?

I had to giggle at the title, and thought, "No thanks, I'll take the one I've got, just leaner and more muscular."

Hi Dip Your comment about the title made me laugh. I dont guess you'd call if a 'lifting' video exactly. There are exercises for the abs, buns, arms and shoulders....lunges, curls, shoulder presses etc but only using 2 five lb weights. I'm a beginner....never lifted in my whole life ever so 5 lbs is plenty for me for now but I'm sure as you gain strength you could increase the weight. The instructor is the same one who did the "Buns of Steel" videos several years ago if you've heard of them. I'm sure she has a website where you could find out more. I'll have to ask Mindi what kind of results she has had while using this tape.

Miki, shoot, everyone has to start somewhere! Lifting is great and I am so glad I chose this path. These ladies know their stuff, and if you choose to do serious lifting, this is the place to get the info, for sure.

I started with 2# weights and eventually moved up to the big stuff in due time. These gals would giggle if they knew what "heavy" is to me, but I know as I get through the process, I will be right up there with them. I have The Firm tapes that I pull out now and then just for something different. I get bored easily and need a little 'pepper' every once and awhile. Believe it or not, I even "Stretch to the Classical Music" with Richard Simmons to destress.

If you decide to take lifting on, these gals "Luvs Newbies."

Good Luck!

Dip, how long have you been lifting and how much weight are you up to? ( I mean lifting...not YOUR weight.. ) I really think adding weights is what I need. I dont want to keep losing but still end up with loose flab. YUCK. I cant afford or have time for the gym...there isnt one close to my house. My 14 yr old son has a weight bench, dumbbells, and barbells so that is the extent of my equipment. He has weights from 5 to probably 100 lbs or so. Do you mainly use a tape to follow or do you just do your own thing??

Miki, that's a loaded question, no pun intended. It would be irresponsible of me to answer it directly without stating first that body building is serious stuff. When I decided that it was what I wanted to do, my decision was an educated one. I spent much time researching and educating myself, and continue to do so. I also have a trainer at my gym that has helped me with form. I practiced the exercises for a month before actually starting a routine. And, I'm just discovering, there is much to learn about physiology and nutrition other than just increasing protein intake. I spend more time on body building education than anything else in my life since making the decision back in July.

As for how much weight I lift, it's more of a complex answer than just stating "X" number of pounds. It depends on what part of the body I'm working, and piece of equipment I'm using to work it. For example, I can do squats with 20# on the barbell, but won't do them when I'm alone for fear of getting stuck. I can do a variation of a squat, holding the barbell in front of me with no fear. But I can do more sets of the same reps on the leg press at my gym pushing 85 pounds. I can do 20 pound bicep curls, but can only handle 10# on flat chest flies. I keep detailed lifting, cardio, as well as food journals.

If you are remotely entertaining the idea of weight lifting, I highly recommend Mrs. Jim's Stickies, Basic BB Info-getting started, and Articles worth reading. Now there's a lady who knows her stuff!

Thanks Dip! I have been reading Mrs.Jim's "getting started" thread. Also, awhile back someone gave me the link to Krista Smash's website which I finally went to last nite. It was also very informative. I've definitely read more than I've physically done at this point. As far as working out, I'm going to keep using that tape I told you about for awhile. I only use 5-10 lb weights on everything I do. Maybe someday I'll work up to where you are. If you think the ladies giggle at what YOU think is heavy, they'll fall in the floor laughing at me. (Just kidding...I know they all had to start somewhere too) Thanks again for the reply.

Miki, welcome! I alternate between using the gym equipment in my apt building or doing an exercise video for weight training. Right now, I'm getting stressed about last minute items for my wedding (11/1 - less than 2 weeks) so I'm leaning heavily on the tapes. I get a VERY good workout, and I don't have to think about planning them or counting reps. Years ago, I started with FIRM tapes, but I like the technology of DVD workouts much better. Someone pointed me in the direction of Cathe Friedrich, and I haven't really touched the FIRM videos since. Cathe is excellent with form pointers and her cueing is very easy to follow. Through out all her tapes she is contstantly stressing that you should use weights that are appropriate for you, not to mimic her on the #'s. For most items I go LIGHTER than Cathe and her crew. . As long as I'm going heavy enough to work the muscle to exhaustion and not too heavy as to cause injury, I'm comfortable with it.

This is a terrific place to hang out. Everyone here is VERY friendly and knowledgeable.

Audrey, hon, I know you're bizzeee with the wedding, but when you have a chance, what's the name of the Cathe video you use for weights? I would hate to order the wrong one. Thanks!

Thanks for the welcome, Audrey. I'll have to check out Cathe's tapes sometime. Like Dip, I'd like to know the name of the one you're currently using.

Congrats on the upcoming wedding!

uh oh.. I think I've been busted. I'm a confirmed Cathe-aholic. Her website is www.cathe.com for anyone who wants to check the tapes/dvd's out. I found that she was offering enough specials on product that I have most of her dvd's. I've even pre-ordered the new ones. The cardio workouts, are a nice change from my usual run, but I still will more often than not, opt to go for a run on a cardio day.

The tapes that I use the most:

The Pure Strength series. This is either 1 DVD with 3 workouts on it, or 3 tapes. The 3 workouts are Chest/Shoulders/Triceps...Legs/Abs (includes standing and floor work for legs)... and Back/Biceps/Abs. This is what I did last week, and I really Like this series.

Another GOOD series that I use is the Slow/Heavy Series. I wouldn't recommend this for just starting out, but after you've been working out with weights for a bit, it's a goodie. This is also 3 workouts on 1 DVD or 3 tapes. Here cathe pairs Push/Pull. One is Back/Chest, another is Legs/Shoulders and the third is Biceps/Triceps. It's been a while since I used this one, so I can't recall if ABS are on any part of it, or if I added Abs from the Abs hit DVD that month. This workout is meant to work each body part only 1x a week. I tried to double on legs and I'd recommend if you wanted to do that to do it every OTHER week. On this series you go HEAVY but the reps are done VERY S L O W L Y. It really does increase strength. There are 3 sets of 8 reps for most exercises.

My other standby for weights is the Pyramid workouts from the intensity series. This is a newer set, but the absolute newest workout is due out within a month. The pyramid dvd has 2 workouts (2 tapes), Upper Body and Lower Body. For each upperbody exercise you superset 2 exercises in sets that change weights and reps. Ie. set 1 is lightest with 12 reps, set 2 is medium with 10 reps and set 3 is heavier with 8 reps. Set 4 is like set 2, and set 5 is like set 1. Lower body supersets some exercises too, and some are just by themselves. There is stability ball work at the end of each tape. For lower body, the work is for inner thighs/glutes and hamstrings, for upperbody the stability ball work is for abs.

FOR all the DVD's, Cathe is excellent on chaptering the workout so you can program the DVD to play whatever you WANT to work. I REALLY LIKE THIS FEATURE. The newer DVD's have preset mixes and matches too. There is pyramid up which is 3 sets, and pyramid down (also 3 sets) and a workout that mixes upper and lower body.

The older sets have some total body workouts. I find that I prefer to use the segments ones instead. However, the Max Intensity Strength Tape (on DVD is paired with a few others) is a good total body workout. I can't give you details, as I very rarely do a total body workout anymore.
