Counting Calories IN MY DREAMS?!?

  • Hello ladies!

Does anyone else do this? When I'm having dreams that I'm aware of - you know the ones, where you know you're dreaming - and those dreams include food of any kind, I am right there in my dream thinking about calories and wondering how many etc or whether I can fit it into my "day".
    It seems so ridiculous!
Last night I had a dream that my cousin had this elaborate birthday party and me and my sister were both there and there was this chef coming around with all of these different flavours of frozen "treats" on sticks - chocolate, cherry, bubblegum, watermelon, peanut butter, creme brulee- it was so bizarre.
But there I was, taking one and then thinking "I wonder how many calories these have" and saying to my sister in the dream "I think it's ok for me to have one because they're probably only about 150-200 calories since they're small"
Anyway... has calorie counting become a part of anyone else's life this intensely? I wouldn't mind having dreams where I just ate what I wanted haha, it's a dream after all!
  • I totally know what you mean! I chalk it up to the fact that it's always on my mind and very much ingrained in my day-to-day. I remember when I worked as a cashier at a grocery store I would have dreams where I would ring things up at the checker stand. I have heard that dreams have hidden meanings, but I never looked that closely into mine.

Fun dream too! It speaks well of you that even in a dream state, you were conscious of your portions and didn't go crazy. I think it is a good sign that you are committed to your weightloss. But then, I am no psychotherapist!
  • I don't think it is unusual to have these sorts of dreams. I think it is just your brain's way of dealing with everyday occurences. I, myself, have dreamt that I am on the computer reading 3 fat chicks.
  • So funny! In my dreams I never count calories, but I eat ad eat and eat. It is so cathartic! Sometimes I wake up in a slight panic as if I've actually eaten the junk from my dream.
  • Hahah when I first began my journey, I would "eat" in my dreams. Now, even in my dreams I'm aware of my calorie budget and the fact that I need to stay on my plan!
  • Apparently, my dream self is not evolving very quickly, the snotty little brat. On the other hand, she can talk to the animals (and they talk back) and fly, so I guess I shouldn't complain too much!
  • Nah not so much. But last year during one of my previous weight loss attempts, I was "binging" almost nightly on McDonalds and cake. Then I would wake up all panicked because I "broke my diet"

Haven't really been dreaming too much about food this time around, oddly enough...
  • Haha it's interesting to read all your responses! I find it so crazy that I think like that in my dreams. I think it's kind of a good thing that it's so ingrained!
  • I TOTALLY do that. I calorie count, I weigh in, I work out... I just wish all of that counted in "real life"!!

That reminds me of a dream I had years ago when I started the Atkins diet. I was on the diet for about a month and then dreamt I was eating spaghetti. It felt so real that I felt I *had* cheated on the diet when, in fact, I had not.
  • Hm. That's interesting. I don't think I've ever had a dream like that before, honestly. I don't really dream about food, I guess. I had a dream where the FBI was after me though. That was quite a dream.
