Default Soy Products and CORE

Hi again,

I have read on this board that soy products ff or not are all okay on CORE. I had my first soy latte the other day and it was great!! Then I had another one yesterday, wasn't as good. I guess different brands have different tastes.
But I noticed the soy milk in both coffee places has a bit of a vanilla taste. Then I went to grocery store, most of the soy milk is vanilla flavored. Is that flavored milk still Core? It is more of hint of vanilla, not that sweet. So, do I need to search to find a "plain" soy milk?

I also, tried soy cheese and really like it, and soy parmasan cheese was very good as well. I am trying hard to make soy cheese and other soy products my best friends if they are okay on Core.

Thanks again.

Kathy

Kathy, the coffee places my be using SF vanilla syrup? You might ask them if they are putting something else in the coffee besides the soy milk. I think plain soy milk is what we are supposed to have. I guess you'll have to look at the carton to see if it has an "added" sugar in the ingredients. It probably will have naturally occurring sugars on the nutrition lable that would be ok but added sugar would not be ok.

Did you realize that the soy milk doesn't count as your dairy? Didn't want you to think that you have your milk servings and not have a good weigh in because of it.

Hi Kathy,
Soymilks do vary a lot in taste by brand, so you have to try a few and see what you prefer. I've found that the ones with a bit more fat actually taste much better (the points per serving are about the same). WW counts 'plain' soymilk as Core, but not vanilla soymilk or other flavors. I don't know if soy cheese will be Core or not; I would suggest checking with your leader or the Food Companion for the specific brand - it would need to be equivalent to a fat free dairy cheese, and in my experience soy cheese often has more fat than 'regular' cheese, paradoxically.

soy cheese is core.....and yes I actually tried some - got some shredded "cheddar" flavor soy cheese to have on hand - dd used it tonight on her taco (we had run out of other shredded cheese) and I tasted a "string" (as did she - also pretty leery)...but it did not taste bad at all......now to start using it in recipes!

Thanks all for the soy info. I will ask my leader today about plain vs vanilla flavored soy milk.
I have been buying soy cheese off the clearance rack at my grocery store! and so far I like them all. I made a tuna casserole with soy cheese and my kids ate it!! So far so good.
