  • JoJo, Dr. Oz has been on Oprah numerous times and now has his own TV show. Dr. Oz co-authored You on a Diet and some other healthwise books. You might check out that site Maryann posted for more info on him if you'd like.

I love reading your posts. Your wording is very refreshing. I always look forward to reading. You have a wonderful sense of humor. You and your friends will have a wonderful time this weekend. Watch out for falling water, though.

My body is still fussing at me over my eating or should I say my "overeating"? I am feeling miserable this morning. Oh, well, life goes on. I'm up and dressed for Algebra I & II. Afterwards, I'm picking up the granddaughters to bring them over. They're going to do some fishing in our pond.

Sloan, you are very close to goal!! I am so happy for you. I can't even picture my weighing what you weigh. You go, girl!!

Rhonda, your body has firmed up with muscle. You're not fluffy at all. You look good. A nutritionist might help you get to the weight you want. Have you talked with Todd about this?

    Got to go. It's time.
  • Sandra..I have been meaning to send congratulations your way !!
You asked about what work I am looking for ...I am a Speech/Language
Therapist but haven't worked much while the boys were growing up.
I am going to get an application in to our school system and then
try to do some "PRN/as needed" work while I wait on a school system
job. I love working in nursing homes & hospitals but I will be eligible for state retirement
health insurance after 5 more years if I work with the schools
because I worked with them before I stayed home with my kids.
Health insurance is so expensive (and may get worse) so insurance coverage is a big deal.

Robin had a problem with his left calf swelling and being painful on Monday.
We had tests run to be sure it wasn't a blood clot , but they found a hematoma instead.
It is better but he has had to have it elevated & iced this week. The weather has been
nice here so he is discouraged to be back to the couch this week...I am just thankful it wasn't a clot.

I am maintaining but not losing.. I feel like I only eat 1200 calories but
    maybe it is more.

Sloan..your ideas about freezing core meals were really helpful.
Robin eats the lean cuisine type frozen meals when he diets because
it is portion controlled but I want to make some homemade meals that
    would be one serving.

Our Franklin Covey store had a 50% sale yesterday and I got a red leather
planner and a years worth of pages. I am so excited about getting it set up.
I used to use a planner and it really helped me use my time efficiently.
Right now I will go run an errand just because I don't want to forget it.
When I am organized I make a list of errands and run them all at the same time .
That's just one example . If I keep a shopping list in my planner, then I remember
things when I am out and don't have to make many special trips.
Just knowing everything is written down in one place is a great feeling.

I am off to work on paperwork & my application. You would think I want to be an FBI agent with the size of this application.
  • Falling down water?

Yes, I did talk to Todd and others. The suggestion was that I was not eating enough calories. Oh for heaven's sake! OK, OK. I know the theory. I'll try 1500-1800 and see what happens.

Speaking of Todd, he is studying for tests and I'm on my own most of this week. I don't think I can make myself do 3 sets of 17 one-legged squats. I'll do fewer.

Nancy, good luck with the planning. Sandra, hang in there, cuz.
  • Hi Ladies

Enrolled into a walking tour for 6 weeks on Wed Morning with my friend Alice and met really nice woman. The town runs this for the seniors,it a group of 5-9 woman where the driver from the rec center takes the group in a van where we to go to a certain spot each week and walk for 1 hr. The driver walks with us and tells us about the different areas.Today we walked along the bike trail in upper cape. Its very exciting to go to difference places that I never seen since I moved here 13 years ago. They started the group Aug 09 until Nov 09 and than once again in Spring and now in the Fall again.

SANDRA-Your welcome I love Dr Oz and now I found out that he moving to 10am spot in the morning, when I'm out walking.Going to tape his show everyday and than watch it later on in the evening. He gives so many tips on one show that my friend told me yesterday that it hard to keep all whats talked about in your head.Congrats on Curtis weight loss,I bought a 3 section child's plastic plate for my portion control dinners & lunches

RHONDA-You're not the only one, I'm messing up on my carbs also ,that's why I went out an bought a muffin top pan and making low carb rev rolls and burger rolls for sandwiches. The pasta & rice carbs I'm going to use my new 3 section plate.Like to get to my first 10%[19 lbs] by the end of Oct.and before Thanksgiving & Christmas they're coming up quickly so I have to decide to making this plan of mine stick.

SLOANE-WISH WISH I was down to your weight that exactly what goal that my doctor & I choose for myself. But first I have to get to 150 for my first 10% and than work on my second. Glad I could help I love Dr OZ more so that Dr Phil.

JOJO-I hope your surgery was something serious. Anemic I think my DD has that, she on iron pills,As she doesn't eat meat.Have a wonderful weekend yourself. My twin DGD have red hair but toward the auburn type. They're father and my DH grand father had bright red hair. If you don't get Dr Oz just go to his website and you will get all the information you need.Never heard that expression [Falling Down Water]What does that mean?????

Have a nice evening will be back tomorrow morning
  • Maryann, Jojo is gone I think. "Surgery" in Britain normally means "clinic" and I think that is what she meant. "Falling down water" is how she humorously described alcohol. Of course, we try not to reach that stage

The walking tour you described sounds fantastic. What a nice thing to get to do.

I went to aquafit today and kept my eating modest. I did enjoy a glass of FDW ('falling down water", in this case, wine)

    Night all,
    Rhonda
  • Falling down water Maryann is booze of any description and thanks for the Dr Oz info.
Sorry about the mix up, surgery here is the family doctor's office. It holds several doctors, specialist nurses, physios, OT's and various counsellors. When my husband had his coronary in 2009, the cardiac doctor and nurses were wonderful and liaised with the cardiac intensive care staff at the hospital so that when he came home he was well supported. The services are free on the National Health.
How are the hummingbirds girls? Last time I saw any was when I was overseas. We don't get them here.
We are off over the county boarder today. Going into Worcestershire (where the sauce comes from. Many moons ago I spent a night in the house once owned by Mr Perrin one of the original sauce people… very opulent) Mark wants to go to a newly opened DIY because they have stuff on special.
When our daughter died in May, we sold both our cars. Every time we got in one of them we could 'see' her sitting in the back sorting out her CD's and making sure she had everything for the journey. The memories were too painful. I know time will rub off the hard edges and they will mellow into warm ones, but that is a way in the future. So, we bought just the one car, a little Vauxhall just room for us and the dog. We will have to put the trailer on this morning to bring the goodies back. Over here a trailer is a sort of cart you attach to the back of the car. For the life of me, I can’t remember what you call them. We should be back this afternoon, motorway (freeway) permitting. Have a good day everyone. Jo
  • Good Morning Ladies

My other friend has invited me to be her guest for dinner at the Kansas City Steak House. So I have to get ready and going to miss my bible study for today.

RHONDA-Thanks for explaining surgery & falling down water saying. My DH best friend came from England and I don't know what those saying were. I can't believe I didn't notice the walking tour in the senior bulletin until my friend told me about it.

JOJO-Thanks for explaining the different phases that I never knew. My DH used to tell me the ones he knew, but I don't remember him using the falling down water. Oh MG!!! I had not idea what you are going though losing your DD like that. I'm so sorry,Its not suppose to happen like that where the child goes first.Try to have a good holiday today and many many are going your way.

Have to get ready for today events
  • Hi there, Chickies. Did I tell you about the fiasco lunch I made Monday? That plus dinner not being planned or prepared or bought was my downfall eatingwise Monday evening. Lunch? I had tried 2 new recipes out of my new "diet" cookbook. I made mistakes and lunch was really bad. Then I was home alone Monday evening with nothing for dinner. I should have picked up something on my home from my meeting. (Curtis was at Men's Discipleship.) Live and learn. Bad habits popped up all around me and bit me hard.

Subbing Tues/Wed helped me get back on track. Life is good. I'm still abstinant from sugar (And when I say "sugar", I'm meaning dessert type foods.) for 99 days and am almost through with Day 100.

Jo, we usually say, "trailer", too. When we lived in Montana, we had a Jeep Grand Cherokee with a "rack" on the back for hauling more than the Jeep would carry. I think you and your husband are wise to make changes. If you ever need to talk about your daughter, feel free to pm me. I may not know exactly what to say to help, but I'm a good listener.

Maryann, you have so much fun. Makes me smile. Those walks in new areas sound like such fun adventures.

Rhonda, you'll probably do a lot more exercise than I will. Are you upping your calories? I'll bet Todd's right. You're doing so much exercise, your body probably needs more calories. Your weight would probably start dropping instead of trying to hold on.

I'm going to start shooting again this evening. I've mainly just watched my friend shoot and have been flinging just a few arrows. I'm ready to get more serious.

    Have a great day, everyone.
  • Today was my second day of working out without my trainer. I managed to push myself, even doing those dreaded single-leg squats. But, I did only 3 sets of 6, not 3 sets of 17. I have to have him yelling at me to do that many

My eating was good, but here it is 9:30 and I want to eat. I think I'll go to bed with a book instead . I hope this will pass because I've had enough food today I think.

    'night all
  • Blimey Tejas! If I tried to squat to get something out of a low cupboard, I'd need help to get up again! Sets of 17 I'd have to lie down in a darkened room and wait for the ambulance after just one those.

Ontarget Yep. I've had a few bad days this week too. I have grazed on things I really shouldn't have and to make it worse, someone told me yesterday that there are only 100 days left until Christmas.

Maryann For 2 countries which share a common language we don't half have differences don't we? Here, the phrase 'Knock up' means to wake you up in the morning by knocking on your door. The first time I was in the USA, in all innocence, I asked a young man if he could knock me up when he was passing my door in the morning! You should have seen his face

We are leaving mid afternoon for just over a week so will be back a week on Sunday. Take care everyone. Love Jo
  • That is a good one, Jojo "knock me up"..great!

Sandra, I meant to say that I'm sorry you got bitten...just keep on 'trucking.

    I'm off to tap dance
  • Jo, you're a hoot. "Knock me up" I'll bet his face did look funny. Have a good time on your trip. We'll be waiting to hear all about it.

Rhonda, I am ashamed to say I did 5 minutes so far this week. Thank you for the anti-bite thoughts. My eating's better but not stellar. I'm meeting an ex-student who is now a good friend for breakfast at Cracker Barrel early tomorrow. That'll also be a challenge.

I'm tired. It's amazing how tired I get just from going to school and doing very little. Maybe it's all the "nothing" that's tiring. I am enjoying the kids, though, and look forward to going each time I'm called.
  • Hey chickies! I just got home from my sister's house. DH and I had dinner there. It's funny, I've been preoccupied with thoughts of my dad today, and when I got to visit with my mom and sis, I found out that they had, too. I wonder what that was all about. My eating has been wacky today. Hopefully I'll get it together tomorrow.

Maryann, I'm so glad you have such good friends. I know you must really enjoy them.

Rhonda, I'm impressed that you even exercised without Todd. It would be hard for me to push myself, too.

Sandra, how's your back? I hope the shots are helping. I'm so glad you are enjoying your subbing. You can come sub for me any time.

Nancy, good luck with your job search. How's it going?

    Jojo, have a wonderful holiday!

Vickie, how are you three doing?

I have a busy weekend ahead, but I will try to get by here tomorrow some time. Have a great night y'all!
  • Hi everyone:

I've spent the morning delivering political material to members of the unsuspecting public trying to have a quiet Saturday morning

This afternoon I'm taking a nap, then going to a Blues festival downtown. I just loooovvveee the Blues and this promises to be a great event.

I want to eat everything in sight. aarrrgggghhhhh But, I won't. (I might have to have some Bar-b-que though. What's the Blues without it?)

    Rhonda
  • Hi Ladies

Sorry for being MIA for several days.I walked on Wed with the walking tour and than on Thursday I walked in the morning before being invited to a telephone co. pioneer dinner which I had a big huge steak mashed pot & mixed veggies. Than on Friday after the PB club my friend I walked all over the town before we come home I was death tired. Almost fell a sleep on the bus. Today I took a day off and rested than this afternoon my baked my rev rolls.

SANDRA-That's too bad about your Monday recipe out not as you as you expected. We all have on of those days.I love being out of the house as much as possible but today I had to take care of me.Alice wanted me to go to a town fair but I was to exhausted to except, maybe I go on Sunday as there not good movies this week to see.

JOJO-That's so funny,my DH good friend comes from England and some of the expressions he come out with always made me laugh.

SLOANIE-I'm so blessed to have these wonderful friends, and we do enjoy each others company

RHONDA-I had that problem with eating the other night I just couldn't stop. I now found my knitting and I'm going to start working with it while I watching TV instead of eating.

    Have a nice evening
