Here we go -- it's another brand new month -- a whole new start for our continuing journey down that long winding path to better health and fitness.
If you are a continuing member . . . . . . to our new monthly chat thread. Glad you could make it.
If you are a brand new member . . . . . . as well as the new chat thread, and to the Diabetes Support forum. Please drop in to the "Getting to Know You" (Sticky) thread to read a little about some of us and to tell us a little about yourself.
I'll be looking forward to seeing less of you, more often, gang . . . have a great moving and shaking kind of day . . . keep doing the best you can, as much as you can, and the rewards will follow.
Well, as I mentioned at the tail end of the August thread . . . I had a nasty little melt-down yesterday. Consequently my BGL was 7.0 (126) this morning and I'm actually surprised it wasn't higher. Guess all the fat on the pizza saved me some from all the carbs in the date squares. . . . Anyway, definitely back on track this morning and looking forward to a great month.
It's raining at the moment but hopefully not for much longer. The weatherman is promising some sunshine by this afternoon. Good thing, too. This is the start of our Pictou County Fall Fair Week as well as being Labour Day weekend, of course.
Since I live across the road from the fairgrounds, it would be impossible for me to avoid the various activities even if I wanted to. The theme for the fair this year is a salute to the past Queens of the Fair over the 50 year history of the event. Forty-eight of them are still living and most of them have promised that they will be in attendance at the crowning of the 51st. Should be lots of fun. Hope the weather holds good for next weekend's wind-up parade.
Well gang . . . I'd better go finish up a few other things around here. Look forward to seeing you all again, really soon. Have a great day.
My blood sugars have been spot on since wednesday. I started work on Tuesday last week and I didnt have my insulin the night before, so I was well out of range. I'm not 100% liking my job so far. Sure, its money, but I am so busy and I am the only person in my department. I've only been given 3 and a half days of training on their system. Yah, fun. I have the joyous task of keeping a whole system of spare part orders running. I handle endless streams of phonecalls while trying to keep up with quotas for entering orders onto an excel system. I even organize the delivery/dispatches from our in house warehouse.
I get 40 minutes worth of breaks a day including lunch, but I usually end up working straight through them because I'm that busy. If I want a drink of water, I have to get it from the women's bathroom sink. I get plenty of exercise at least. I have to run up and down stairs preparing all of the orders and dispatches. About 60% of the people I work with speak only the most basic english, as they come from the EU to work here in Britain.
I was so tired every day after work, I just wanted to sleep. Yesterday, I met up with a friend at a mcdonalds (she works there and gets discounts) and I got myself a cokezero and an ice cream in a dish and made myself a coke float. It was so refreshing to just sit back and relax and have a laugh. I wish I could do it more often. Hopefully, now I'm earning money (but dont get paid until next friday) I'll be able to go out more often with my bf and other friends.
I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed and a whole lot of tired, but I'm still chuggin along. We have to move out by the 22nd of this month, and we dont have a place lined up yet. we put in an application and got beat out by another guy, and we put in another application and are supposed to hear back on monday. Hopefully. If this one doesnt come through, we may be in trouble.
I'm starting to feel the stress of it all, but my bloodsugar's arent. They've been rock solid the past couple of days because I've been keeping an eye on them. Hopefully, this trend will continue and I wont have to add another item to my worry list!
Hope everyone is doin well, And meowee How're the kittens behaving? ^^
Hi CASANDRA . . . glad to hear the BG is staying in-line. New jobs can really be the pits but it will probably become a lot less stressful as you become more familiar with the systems and the routines and as you become more familiar with the others working there. Hang in there, chickie and just think about the money you will be able to spend soon.
BTW, the kittens seem to have settled down quite a bit. I've gone back to the clumping clay littler and they seem to prefer it. Hopefully this trend will continue.

My blood sugars have been spot on since wednesday.
That's great considering the stress you've been under maybe all the exercise is helping? I'm glad you are busy at your work, that must make the day pass quicker.
Why do you have to move on the 22nd? what happens if you don't find a place by then?

Mmmm pizza and date squares yummy, if you are going to have a meltdown, that's the way to do it.
Went to the dietitian today for my weigh in. I lost 6lbs in the past 3 weeks, down to 175 and that means 40lbs lost!! in just under 4 months. I started my diet on May 5. I've got 11 weeks until my cruise, hoping to lose another 20lbs by then, that's a real goal for me, I'd like to look nice and have some nice clothes for the ship. I'm taking things a day at a time though, just hoping for the best.
Tonight I went to a dinner party, they had bbq pork & steak - and well, I had both along with a generous helping of pasta and caesar salad and a dessert of mangos marinated in grand marnier. What a way to celebrate 40lbs lost. Don't worry, tomorrow I am back on track.

Thin Our landlady recently had a baby girl, and she is now at that age where she's learning to walk. The house they live in now has no room for a baby to run around or play even outside. This house isnt much better mind, we have a tiered back yard so there's three layers. They want to sell both houses in favor of a bigger house with a huge yard. We were planning on living here a few years mind. We've had our two month's notice and we've been looking like crazy for a new place to move into. We've put in another application for a house and should hear early this week. If we dont get this one, I think we're pretty much screwed. We may have to move back in with Dan's parents for a week or two ( and I sooo dont want to do that). They live a hour away from where we both work. The commute is horrid.
It's sunny and cool around northern Nova Scotia this morning . . . the kind of weather I just love . . . hope it continues for a long time like this. Guess my BGL likes it too -- 4.9 / 88 first thing this morning -- hope that continues for a long time too.
On the not so great front, that little meltdown I mentioned (most of the week that came before it wasn't too great either ) resulted in my being 6 pounds over my ticker weight yesterday morning. The good part of this little story -- three of it is gone again as of this morning. The bad part -- guess the other 3 is mine to deal with. Anyway, I refuse to move my ticker to 231 (it doesn't 'go West'). Hopefully I can catch up with it again by the end of this month.
Congratulations to you THIN . . . you are doing really well. Keep up the good stuff, girl . . .
Gee whiz, CASANDRA . . . really hope you get a good break with the house-hunting really soon.
Another thing that torments diabetics is poor balance -- it certainly is one of my 'problem areas' -- here's a short little video showing a couple of exercises that are recommended. Think I will add them to my routine for all the time it takes in the hope that they will actually help. (Unfortunately, to see the short video, you hve to put up with a commercial from Lipitor that is almost as long as the main attraction. ) . . . http://www.everydayhealth.com/Public...y=&cvalue=1923 . . . Oh well. seems the internet is getting as bad as regular television these days.
Anyway, gang . . . hope everybody has a great day planned. Keep things moving and shaking just as much as you possibly can . . . see you all later.
Hi girls! BG was 7.2 this morning (129.6) obviously showing effects of the BBQ dinner I had last night
Casandra, that is rotten how they gave you so little notice. Did you try contacting the people who are buying to see if they want renters? maybe they would let you stay?
Dan's parents doesn't sound like a great option, but it's better than no where to go. Hope this new place accepts your application and everything is okay.
Hi Meowee, 3 lbs up is MUCH better than 6 lbs up, 3 pound you can deal with no problem.
I bought a scale, I figured I would weigh in myself once a week now instead of waiting for the dietitian. It's stupid. I stand on it 176.2, get off, stand on it again 175.4, get off, stand on it again, 178.4 get off stand on it again 174.8
Stupid stupid stupid. I', throwing it out and just weighing in at the dietitians again.
Meowee, do you get Discovery Canada channel? there is a show on this morning about the Queen Mary 2 ocean liner. I am sailing on her next August! it' starts here in a half hour.
I just got back home THIN . . . I would have watched the programme if I had known. Couldn't have picked anything much bigger for your cruise, could you. It's okay, the bigger they are the less chance of people getting seasick.
BTW . . . don't be too hard on the scale, they all do that (well except for the great big balance-bar kind). It isn't the number that's important, it's the overall direction. I tend to get on three times -- if I get two the same, that's what I use; if not, take the average. The living human body is very hard to weigh accurately because we just never stop moving no matter how hard we try.
The scale doesn't have feelings so I am going to call it stupid! lol
It's just, when you are dieting, every oz is important, your whole day and state of mind can be affected by a good reading, or a bad one. I'm not going to torture myself - I'm getting rid of that thing and sticking with the arm one at the dietitians.
Morning everyone..a quiet day here..cloudy and cool..my sl was 112 this am..meowee that was an interesting video..i always wondered if being diabetic had something to do with me falling alot or maybe im just a klutzim going to try those exercises..casandra sry hope u find new housing soon..thin.. i hate the scale and it never reads the same for me either..i used to be a scale hopper now im a scale avoider..my getting back on track is going ok.. writing things down sure helps me..ttfn (((hugs))) rosey
Thin They gave us 2 months notice, which is a standard here. The landlady hasnt put the house on the market, and wont do until we're out of here. We should hear about this house today, hopefully, it'll work out alright.
I am not very excited about going into work today. I have a monstrous headache, and I had a nosebleed last night. I'd better go get ready though!
Another absolutely delightful day around here . . . low humidity; comfy temperatures; lots of sunshine . . . yippee. The BGL is good too at 5.6 (101). The animals seem to be controlling themselves. I'm controlling my eating. Hey, everything is looking pretty good with my world right now.
Sorry to hear you have to go to work, Casandra, when all of us on this side of 'the pond' have a holiday Monday; and sorry you aren't feeling too good either.
I seem to fall over my big feet a lot too, Rosey, and I'm pretty sure it's related to Diabetic neuropathy -- I didn't seem to be a klutz when I was younger.
Aww, Thin, I know exactly how you feel. There is something very compelling about the scale -- sitting there, smirking at us.
Wowee . . . how many times have we heard the line "I'm just dying to lose some weight"? Well, here are a coupple of things to think about tht give new meaning to that sentence -- In 1878, one of the first so-called "diet drinks" featured iodine on it's ingredient list and, even more bizarre, the first "diet pill" ever available combined arsenic, strychnine, and a thyroid extract to raise the user's metabolism.
Anyway, gang . . . hope you all have a great Monday -- be it a holiday or not -- see you again really soon . . .
meowee nice trivia. People, when I say people, I mean women, in the 1800's used arsenic wafers to maintain a pale skintone and a "breathless"ness. Which supposedly made them more feminine.
I had a bad day today. I've learned my gorgeous puppy in the USA is very ill. My parents were going to bring her into the vet tomorrow, but this morning she was shaking uncontrollably and foaming at the mouth. They rushed her to the vet and he gave her a vitamin B shot and some other meds. Hopefully she'll be ok.
I went into work and got a good amount of work done, then my MILLION YEAR OLD pc died and excel crashed and I had to start all over again. I have had no lunch, I worked through it, didnt really have a choice. I was looking forward to coming home to a nice big roast dinner (turkey) but eventually couldnt be arsed and was given pizza instead. I was still hungry after that, so I had cup a soup. Feeling a bit better.
I'm really tired, I have dreams about missing flat pack furniture pieces, and I've only been there for a week. X___x
I have my headache still, aspirin didnt help at all today.
At least my sugars are still ok! That's one thing to be happy about, I guess.
