Angry New here

Hello
I am new to this forum and woul like to say a hello to everyone.
I am 48 nearly 49 and at 5feet 2inches a heafty 12 stone, but that is going to change.
I love cooking and experimenting with recipes and trying out new ideas.
I have a pocket handerchief garden and want to grow herbs to add to my recipes.
I read a lot and love surfing the net for new ideas.
My cholesterol is high and I am waiting for an appointment with the Dietician at my Medical Centre.
I am following a low fat diet that has to be low calorie as well. Desserts are a problem as my husband loves to have a dessert after dinner, by the way he too has a weight problem that he is determined to attack.
Any ideas as to what I can do boost our drive and keep us both on ttrack? I really want to succeed this time as I have tried to lose weight in the past only to put it all back on plus more besides. We both want this to work.

I too have not been here for so long yet and it is a great place!! the girls here give you so much encouragement and they have given me all the encouragement that i need

Do it together with your husband thats a great idea set goals and go excersixe together and be a team!! Best of luck to you

What a great welcome.
My goal is to be 9 stone again so 3 has to disappear with a lot of hard work. Trouble is I can get bored with dieting so I am trying to look at this a change in lifestyle but it is not easy as all the naughty stuff calls out to me.
My worst time is the evenings when I want things, I am not hungry I just want something.
My husband has a bigger task ahead ofhim as he needs to lose at least 5 stone.
I need to find ideas that will satisfy his need for sweet stiff and help him stop wanting when we sit down to watch TV in the evenings.

Hi Jingo

My DH is the same - always wanting a pudding... we often have a meringue nest filled with fromage frais and topped with tinned fruit (make sure its in natural juices) its delicious and low fat.

Hi Jingo I can relate to getting bored with dieting I manage all right for a few days or weeks then blow it.

Wish my hubby would join in and lose weight with me. He doesn't have much to lose, but as he has boobs as big as most woman a little off wouldn't hurt him.

If you love to cook and try out new recipes Jingo, try the Australian Women's Weekly cookbooks - they are cheap (about £5) and have lots of imaginative recipes in them. There is also an AWW web site which has hundreds of low-fat recipes on it:

Thank you NickyB for the suggesetion of visiting the web site you so kindly sent me.
I have looked at it and put it onto my favorites. There is plenty to choose from and I will soon be trying some of the recipes out.

I find the weekends the hardest for some reason Sunday in particular as we love our Roast dinners. I have found ways around the problem of having roast potatoes that are still crisp and golden. The spray oil is great for this as they don't sit in the oil.
Does anyone else have problems with weekend eating?

Hi, the best things to have for Sunday dinner:

- roast turkey crown - i.e. just the breast, either on or off the bone (this makes good "left-overs" sandwiches, so it encourages you to leave some & not eat it ALL!)

- pork loin fillets (these cost about £2.50 for 2 x 200g fillets in our supermarket and are really lean). Cut off any excess fat and roast quickly in a hot oven, eat with homemade apple sauce (recipe below)

- a gammon joint (amazingly) can be really low in fat & cals. The thing to get is one of the supermarket ready-meal ones (M&S have a gammon joint with pineapple that is £2.99 at the moment, it is 12g of fat for a 500g joint (which we eat between 3 - oink!).


Apple sauce:

2 large bramley apples, peeled, cored and sliced - put in a microwave bowl with a lid, along with a tablespoon of water and cook on high for 5 mins (a 650watt microwave). When it's ready, mush up the apples a bit with a fork and then stir in 2 tablespoons of demerara (or less of granulated) sugar - or until it is to your liking. Let it cool. This makes quite a large amount, enough for 4 very greedy people!

Turkey is always a good idea and you can do so much with it. I have bought bacon joints small ones and slowly cooked them in the oven in cider. It always turns out great and there is usually some left over for the next day as well.

I am compiling a folder that contains all the recipes I have found and I am now sorting them out so I can find what I want. I am dividing them into Sunday dinners and then main courses for the week. Desserts are less of a problem now as I have found loads on various sites.
I have also found that the market is the best place for all my fruit and veg. I can get loads for my money and that way I can eat fruit instead of biscuits, which was a problem for me.
Thank you for all your helpful suggestions, it is great to find people who are in the same boat and willing to help out.

Thumbs down Bacon in Cider


This is easy to do. Make sure you soak the joint over nigh to get rid of the salt.
Put the joint into a large casseerole dish with onion. carrots and celery, pour over a small bottle or can of cider and cook slowly in the oven at around 150C until it is tender. You can add herbs as well.
I serve it with roast potatoes done with spray oil and veg. My husband loves it with my savoury Cauliflower.


Savoury Cauliflower
One Cauliflower cooked
One can condensed Mushroom Soup
Just enough water to make it a sauce that is not to thick or too runny (similar to the thickness of cheese sauce)
2 oz low fat chees grated
Put the Cauliflower into an oven proof dish and pour the sauce over it sprinkle the cheese on top and bake in the oven until it is piping hot and the cheese golden.Enjoy
