Helloooo runners. Blue, congrats on your PR! You are going to KICK this 5k in the butt! Your bf sounds like a keeper.
Eve - Wow, glad the 5 mile run went well! I'm so glad your hips gave you little problem. That's awesome!! I get nervous with new mileage too.
Welcome BigKnitter and redsox!!
Question for the Coloradans.... (MK, milehighmama...)
Do you ladies have any recommendations for a hotel near the zoo/city park? My HM start time is 6:45 a.m. (*dies*) and I want to avoid getting up at 3 a.m. to leave by 4 a.m. to get there by 5 a.m. for a parking spot. I'm thinking getting a hotel and walking there (about a mile) would be a good warm up and plus, I can sleep later.
Gosh, I haven't checked in for a while and am really behind on this thread. Primm: You have gotten some great advice from MK. You are doing great. I have been running for a little less than a year and started out doing a walk/run kind of thing. Then I just gradually increased the amount of time and distance I ran. I have done a handful of 5Ks and 5M races and am trying to decide what to do next. A 10K maybe, or perhaps a half? I don't know. It's just good to have a goal, something that you are training for. A few weeks agos a decided I needed to try to maintain a base of about 20MPW and that seems to be working well, but it has meant adding more days that I run each week (I used to try to stick with every other day to give my body time to recuperate but that doesn't seem possible if I want to increase my mileage seeing how the furtherest I am able to run at one time right now is 6miles). I'm also trying to work on my speeed by adding in some miles at faster paces. It does take some getting used to as I have noticed that I am more tired and sluggish lately. Last weekend really took a toll when I did my long 6mile run on Saturday morning, then spent the entire afternoon with my husband delivering door hangers for our business (a ton of work, brutal!) and then Sunday morning I did a full body weight workout anda then did a 3-4 mile run with my sis-in-law around our neighborhood lake. I could not get any energy going until about half way through the run when I felt a little better. Still, I was frustrated because I wanted to do well and have fun and I just ended up feeling embarrassed and disappointed with myself...
MK: Your track workouts sound like fun. So you mentioned doing split body part workouts. That's what I usually do because I go to the gym everyday and want to spend some time on weights, so one day I do legs, then another day do chest and tris, another back, another shoulders, then core, then maybe a whole body workout with lots of funtional training, then a day of just push-ups and pull-ups, then start the whole process again with some core work sprinkled in, etc. The only time I really focus on my biceps is when I'm doing a whole body workout. I figure that all of my body parts eventually get rested when I rotate them like this... So you menioned doing this to keep your hormones in check so your body will keep burning fat. Is this something you picked up from Leigh Peele? I've never heard of that benefit of doing splits.
Fat: I wish I knew of a hotel near the zoo but I don't. Sorry! That's a good idea to stay overnight though and spare yourself some time and sleep. When is your race and which one are you doing again? Colfax?
Keep running everyone!
Pam

FP - yes, he's definitely a keeper. I'm a lucky lady!
MHM - I definitely agree with you about having a goal in mind. I don't think I'd be as motivated to keep up with my running if I didn't have specific races that I was training for.
Eve - thanks! And congrats on your five mile. That is awesome!
It's cool and cloudy today, but they're not forecasting rain, so I'm planning a 3-4 mile run this afternoon.
Well I did my run for today! I had planned on doing a 5 mile speed work run, but cut it by a mile since my calf has been bugging me a little. It was much better today though. So I did 4 miles in just over 41 minutes, and maxed out my speed at 6.9 mph That makes 33 miles in April.
I went for a 3+ mile yesterday and then went dancing for a couple of hours. Whenever I run, I feel inspired to engage in other exercise afterward. Dancing is good exercise to complement running b/c it doesn't use all of the same muscles.
Didn't get to bed until 4 am (at work at 10 am), am sore, but I had a lot of fun.
I have a run planned tonight. I imagine it will be more of a bouncy walk.
I did a 2 mile run today as part of my 'mileage homework' for my hm training and I PR'ed! My 1 mile time was 10:32 I know that's not fast, but It's the fastest I've ever ran a mile before and I'm so proud of myself!
DH is gone until the 20th so running has really been helpful with keeping me busy instead of moping around the house all day.
Thanks, redsox! C25k is where I started, too. Just keep pluggin' away at it and you will amaze yourself as you run farther and faster!
Thank you! I'm so excited. I woke up with ease this morning earlier than I normally rise, and I'm just dying to go jog. I know, I know... I MUST take today off and I will, but, I'm just ecstatic that I did NOT wake up with shin splints. I felt the onset of ones and the bottoms of my feet were BURNING right after my W1D2 yesterday. I did some stretching yoga that afternoon and I feel like a million dollars this morning.
Eve - congrats on your PR! Way to go!
Redsox - keep up with your program. Sounds like you are doing great.
I'm back down to my ticker weight of 201.5 - 34.5 pounds gone and onederland is just around the corner. Really staying on track with my eating so hoping I can see it real soon. Would be thrilling to have my first race and onederland happen so close to each other.
Had a nice 45 minute run yesterday - you know, I'm glad I live here in the blue ridge mountains. I don't think I could motivate myself to do hill workouts, but here I can do nothing but...felt great to get out after a whole day of sitting in my office. Now I'm taking it easy for my Saturday morning race.
Thanks, ladies! I have another 2 miles to do today and then I rest up for my first ever 6 mile run on saturday! As usual I'm nervous...hoping my hips will let me go that far. I also meet with my bodybugg coach saturday after my run to check up and see how i'm doing.
I weighed myself this am and I am down to 165! I now officially meet the weight requirements for the Air Force! I gotta get my 1.5 mile run time down to 13:56 but I'm getting closer and it's exciting!
Blue and fp- Best of luck on your races this weekend! You both will do great, I know it!
I entered a 4k today. 4k, you say? That's nothing! Maybe, but...
It's over the new Gateway Bridge over the Brisbane River. They've decided to do a run before they open it to traffic. It's 1km up at a 15 degree gradient, and the run is up and down, and then turn around and come back.
I'm thinking the 3rd km, uphill at 15 degrees for 1km, is going to be a killer. What do you reckon?
I just wanted to post and say that I ran my first Half Marathon lost weekend. I ran it in 2:27! I'm planning on running another Half in San Diego on June 6th, and then the full Chicago Marathon in October. Eek!
Daisy - congrats on your half! I have just begun letting myself dream about the possibility of running a half, so it's great to see your success.
Eve - Congrats on your loss! You are my hero. You are almost to the 100 pounds gone mark.
FP - have a great race this weekend!
Primm- that 4k sounds INTENSE! Wow.
So feeling ready for tomorrow - I took a long walk and did some yoga last night, and am taking it easy today so I'll be rested for the 5k tomorrow. Just hoping I can get a good night's sleep since I have to get up so early - yes, following your advice and going to get to the race site earlier to sign in, and make the all-important portapotty visit.
Have a great weekend everybody! I'll try to jump on tomorrow after afternoon to give you the details of how my first race goes.
