guess i picked 2wks because the dr. said 'no running for a couple of wks'
..so i figure 2 wks is a couple
thing is i could walk on it right away - without pain.
- I'm thinking as soon as the bruise is gone - i am good to go.
I broke the same ankle 2yrs ago - so it is prone to rolling.
i am going to do 1hr+ on the elliptical daily to keep my cardio up.
Just want to let you guys know that I made good on my commitment to a weekend long run. Ran 5.5 miles on Saturday afternoon - on the TM because it was thunderstormy. Ran between an 11 and 12 minute pace, did it in 65 minutes. It's my longest run so far and I'm pleased with it. In 8 months have gone from not being able to run a mile without stopping to walk, to running more than an hour at a consistent pace. Working my way up to 6 mile long runs, and then the 10k distance is just around the corner...
sznn - I am always extremely cautious if I have anything even resembling an injury and if a doctor told me 'a few weeks' I'd probably take a month off. But that's me. Listen to your body - it will tell you what is best.
I tried to run on a treadmill yesterday because I wanted to try running some intervals at a faster speed (6.5 to 6.9 mph compared to my usual 6.0 mph). I have concluded that I hate treadmills with a passion - after the sprints, I couldn't even run at 5.5mph I had to walk for a bit. Anyways, I sprinted for 3 x 0.25 miles which isn't even that far but somehow... it feels like I'm doing more work to run at the same speed on the treadmill. Or maybe it's just my imagination. 3 miles outside? No problem. 3 miles on a treadmill? Um.
So I took a week off last week and then did a 5k for fun over the weekend, an interval running session with my doggies on Monday, and finally did a speedwork run today. It was so hard!! I did my 6 miles, though I did have to stop a couple of times. I'm up to 49 miles in April
Yay - I ran 4 miles today for the first time in forever!!!
Took 38.15 which isn't my best time, but pretty respectable seeing as I haven't done it in ages. I might make the 10K on the 9th May after all!!!!
I also found that my garmin gives me totals of everything in its memory. Since I bought it I have run 363 miles over 60 hours and burned up 34,927 calories!!
Jane - I started on the treadmill and had to adjust to running outside which was tough for me. We all have our preferences. They say that outdoor is better than treadmill, so you're all good. The thing about TM is you're not moving through space so it's harder to feel like you're accomplishing something, in my opinion. Depends on the incline level, too.
Ran intervals last night: 5 minute brisk walk, 10 minute run at 12 min/mile pace, and then 5 repeats of 2 min at 9:40 followed by 3 min of easy jogging, and a cool down. Did in on the treadmill 'cause it was a nighttime workout and it's too dark here to run safely outside at night. Felt great. Trying to be more intentional about my runs - long runs, tempo runs, and intervals.
Just wanted to share my good news I have a new 1 mile PR - ran 1 mile this morning on the treadmill in 8:30. Just as close to an 8 minute mile as a 9 minute mile, yay!
thanks, guys. Yeah, kind of crazy that I am over 200 pounds, and still technically obese BMI and I can run a mile in that time. But it's really gratifying - I remember running the mile for fitness tests in gym class and doing in 14 or 15 minutes. I'm now running it almost twice as fast as I could when I was HALF my current age. Thanks again for the encouragement. I also found out that I was actually pretty close to placing in my 5k - they've posted the results online, I'm 29, but if I had been 30 and in the '30-34' age range for women, and gone 45 seconds faster, I would have placed. happy dance
blueridgegirl that is awesome! I can only dream of running a mile that fast lol
I did 2 miles today, not sure if I will get in a trail run tomorrow so I wanted to at least get a couple of miles in. That puts me at 51 miles for April
blueridge - wow, that's a very impressive time... think of how fast you'll be able to run that at goal!
So before April is out (I have 30 minutes... haha) I ran 7 miles today... or I should say, jogged slowly. I now average 6mph running 3 miles. That 7 miles... I averaged 5.2mph. I'm guessing it's because it was HOT out today, I'm a little bit under the weather (I seem to have acquired a cough from somewhere), I haven't been eating too clean all this week and also (TMI warning) I'm expecting my TOM anytime now... is it just me or does anyone else find that the couple of days before it hits, you run slower?
It was kind of annoying because I was hoping to have run that at a half decent (>5.5 mph) speed. Oh well.
