I have some short-term incentive to lose some weight. I find with a clear goal I do better than with an unspecified longer-term goal.

I am going to Toronto in August to visit my cousin and his family and various spouses of his kids. His brother and brother's new partner will also be there.

I'm going to seriously try to lose 5 lbs. by August 23. I think that's doable.

5 pounds in 5 weeks is doable. Having a goal is great incentive.

Dagmar, one month is a good length of time for a goal. I'm trying to think of a goal I could work on for a month. I do well with a calorie limit. Maybe I'll set a 2000 calorie limit for one month and see if I can stick to it. I'll have to make exceptions for any hard hiking days, but I don't seem to have many of those lately.

Good luck - let's do it!

Four good days so far! Short term goal - get through the weekend and stay under my limit. Maybe I'll weigh myself next week.

Well, my intentions didn't survive the weekend. For whatever reason I was extra hungry, and the "just eat it" part of my brain prevailed. But this morning I'm feeling motivated again. Hope it lasts.

I'm taking an online songwriting class for Native American flute players. The theme for last week's project was "animals or plants", and of course I made my dogs the focus. I composed and performed the song, and put it with this little video I made. The stars are Kirby (the spotted gate-jumper), Emmett (aka Spin-Tin-Tin), and Greta (my little black "normal" dog). I'm just starting to learn all this recording technology, so it's not perfect but I'm happy with how much I've learned so far. Here's my creation:

Alice, Love the spinning dogs undeterred by fence or gate. You've got a lot of energy to keep under control.

And your flute. Is a Native American flute player also called a flautist?

That's beautiful Alice! Took me a sec to understand the Spin Tin Tin reference - LOL.

You have a nice pack of what look like very energetic active dogs.

Thanks, guys

Bill, I don't know if I should be called a flautist, a flutist, or a flute player. The notes sound the same, no matter!

My appetite is under control again. Hope it stays that way for a few days.

I'm really having a hard time getting motivated to lose any weight. It just doesn't seem to matter that much any more. I know I'm putting myself at risk for various health problems but I can't seem to muster the energy to care about that right now. Life here is a boring grind. Nothing to do but walk and read. We are shaking it up a bit this coming long weekend so maybe that can be a kick start. SIGH.

I'm off to TO for 2 days - + 2 travel days. While packing up my stuff I found a wristwatch, lip balm, and a comb that I'd forgotten in my carry on last time we went to TO. We don't go away much

Have a good trip, Dagmar.

My under 2000 plan was not successful for the month of August. I'm trying to think of a way to break it down into smaller goals that I can accomplish. I think I'm going to have to start pre-planning my meals, at least a whole day ahead of time.
