I had a really good day yesterday and am wondering why my scale hates me--I'm up 1.5 pounds since yesterday morning....2 pounds since Saturday. I'm hoping my dinner was a bit saltier than usual and it's just water.

Have a great day everyone!!

Good morning all (its finally morning here in California).

I do live in the country which is a mixed blessing. Excellent for jogging except my occasional fear of being jumped by a mountain lion. Especially with a dog like mine to protect me. He is really quite wonderfull but it is such a funny contrast from the dog I had as a kid. She was super hyper. She would grab the leash (I lived in the city) and pull me to get me to run faster. she just wanted to go go go.

The dog I have now lies down to eat.

I have to watch my salt intake too. It is a huge struggle for me. The other thing I am struggling with is upping the protien a bit. I am mostly a veggie except I eat fish now too.

This running thing is totally new to me. I popped over to the coolrunning page and it had a "how to get started running" bit which said something that clicked for me. New runners often give up because they try to do too much too soon. It really rang a bell for me.

Anyhow I am taking it one day at a time. I am very hopeful that this program will turn me into a runner. The biggest struggle I am having is that my road is very hilly. Thank god I have been instructed to walk periodically because I would probably cough up my internal organs if I didn't get a breather now and then.

Anyhow hope you have a great morning and may all your scales be cooperative.

Hicker, I'm so glad you're sticking with the running... It has been by far the best fat burning cardio for me... Before running I never lost weight...

Just back from the gym had a great chest and tricep workout... Watched a trainer training someone and got some new ideas for next workout

Well, so far so good for my plan this week... managed a 45min interval run/walk thing at the gym with a few crunches at the end just for kicks! Tried to then go have a swim but the pool was full of kiddies so had a soak in the spa.
Weighed in at WW last night and had lost a pound... pleased, but worked really hard keeping to food plan so hoped it might be more, think TOM and rain soaked jeans didn't help so hoping to see results next Monday evening! Still, always better than gaining!

Whittlin...as of Saturday, PLEASE help me kick the diet coke habit (or diet drinks in general... but then what will I drink!?)

Have a great week guys.

Well done Ilene Don't worry Allison, I'm sure it's just a blip

Well I thought I'd have a quick half hour scoot round the boards before going out to the pub for my tea. My local pub does some ace healthy meals so i calorie guess (I'm quite good at that) and add 200 so that I'm unlikely to be too far wrong.

Today's my last day off work unfortunately BUT I used it well. I got myself a kick *** haircut which I really like and which has somehow strengthened my resolve. Even went to the effort of painting my face for tonight which is a rare occurrence. Back on plan. sorry 'bout that - couldn't resist trying a few more.

Hiker, I hear you on the salt, but there's no way I'm giving it up. I try to eat lots of green leafy veggies to compensate (lately I've been eating a spinach salad almost every day with lunch). But if I have to give up salt, they're just going to have to give me a pill. With the exception of the occassional treat, I've already given up most baked goods, fats, a lot of pasta, desserts, most cheese, mayonaise, diet soda (except for one bottle a day), all beverages with calories (except alcohol); I'm not giving up salt. We went to the Oakland A's fan fest and got a tour of the locker room. They had a lot of info posted on what types of foods to eat vs. not eat, and they really came down hard on salty foods, so you'd think I'd take a lesson from that, but you'd be wrong!

Doughnut and sweet_talker, my favorite icons are: , but I can never think of any reason to use them.

The next time I come on and complain that I've been bad ... you can use the frying pan on me. Then maybe I won't make bacon in it

I particularly like this one

Cool Hi Everyone!

I'm new 2! I wasn't as good as some of you guys are. My weekend started with a birthday party at the office on Thursday, with all the little goodies! And I had to be polite and try everything! On Friday evening, the grad students had the birthday girl over and we had Indian food. It was very good and I had 2nds. Saturday morning found me doing homework and I wasn't too hungry until lunch. (after all the Indian food!) So, then I gathered ingredients to make a nice healthy dinner for my 2 grandchildren (3 and 18 months) who I babysit every weekend. Sunday morning, I volunteer at church as a computer graphics person and I had to be there early!- -By then, I had a huge headache (I haven't eaten sugar in a loooonnnng while). So I thought caffeine would fix it. Maybe protein. Hardee's was open and yes, I did get a sausage and egg biscuit. However, I did pull off one side of the biscuit and discarded it! That was very hard to do, as I love love love my carbs. But having a headache for 3 days straight is worse. Sunday afternoon, I had lunch with 'the girls' - 1870s recipe of French Onion soup and salad with 1870s salad dressing. Then over to my home group for Sunday evening bible study and chinese! - I did resist eating the cheesecake (didn't know that was Chinese This is not your typical weekend. But just writing it , I know I need to make some changes in my life.
Goals:
1) Eat breakfast every morning. I like Uncle Sam's cereal with Soy milk.
2) Make myself lunch for school. Salad with a vinaigrette and nuts.
3) Take a healthy snack with me wherever I go so that I don't get the munchies and eat empty calories.
4) Walk 2 miles 3X a week. Add weights the 2nd week. (I don't run either)
5) Drink lots of water.
6) Drink tea and avoid the Starbuck's! - this one is the hardest because I teach at 8am and I walk by the Starbuck's on the way to class and I am allergic to early mornings.
So, if I can keep that up for the first week, I will feel like I accomplished something.
Btw, Happy Valentine's Day!

Happy Valentine's Day, everyone!

Sorry I've been absent, our family has all been sick. I had to skip a workout, but was able to stay on track (mostly).

My exercise minutes are 500/1000 for the month, so I'm on track. Still not seeing much of a difference from the scales, but I got a comment from someone that I looked like I've lost weight, so that made me happy.

Hello hello!

My scales are doing my HEAD IN! I'm still up that "water weight" from the weekend. Perhaps it's not water... Oohhhhhhhhhhhhhwwwwwwwa! I tried so hard, then I had a stupid carb-fest. NAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH! It's even worse now that I can't run with the stupid knee and NOW since I went kickboxing last night I've wrecked my big toe!

Today I'm definitely 2 FRUSTRATED!

[/rant]

But apart from that... Everything's good! I went to the gym yesterday and did calf-raises on the leg press machine. I had it on 97kg, which is close to what I'd have it on for using it properly! I'm always really astounded by the strength in my calves, no wonder they're so hulking I had good food yesterday and not too much junk. In fact I don't think I had any junk. I did try a new protein bar, which was YUMMEEEEEEEEEEEE! I shall have to stock up on them

Here's to another perfect day today

Happy Valentines Day to Everyone!!!

I tell you what, chickies, it is not a good idea to eat grapefruit while on the computer! My keyboard is speckled with sticky spots and my mouse is a little sticky from my hand. I think oatmeal would have been a better choice!!!

Back down to 142 this morning. Need to get back to 141 as I was Saturday (or was it Sunday?). Off to my puppet thing this morning, so I won't be around for a few hours. Have a great day!
