Hope you're all set for a good weekend. It's been so rainy and gloomy here and I'm achy, of course. Son said he'd be up today to "hang out" and that will be a treat. He'll be leaving in the a.m.

Dh had kidney test yesterday - now it's the wait for the results. I'd like to know soon for all the obvious reasons and also because if we must cancel FL, best to do so before 12/1 so don't have to pay for January.

Have some gifts bought, started Christmas cards. Will stay at daughter's through Friday so they can do Christmas stuff and come home that evening. Then go down again the second weekend in Dec. so she and her dh can go out to celebrate her 40th bd. Dec. filling up already. SIL is putting a tape together as a surprise for her bd so I've been going around taping relatives wishing her a happy one. I think the way things are going I am very happy she's doing Thanksgiving. So far she only wants me to bring a pasta salad that she likes (which I'm sure no one else will eat on TH but that's ok too).

Getting hungry - lunchtime~never miss a meal.

I supervise a team of social workers and we all could stand to lose a few pounds, but our motto is that we are the unit that will never miss a meal.
Some people actually work thru their lunch.
If I did that I would just eat twice as much dinner.

Anagram- I was at dr's yesterday- He has for some reasons decided I should not think about havong surgery untill i have no other option. He may be right. I told him I am vcery limited. He said take the darvocet. My daughter was not a happy camper. She said tell him "I don't want a junkie for a mother" I am going to get back into my walking routine and if it gets worse he will have to do something. I don't feel good not doing what I am used to. My brain cells are going to die at this rate..I am having headaches every day etc. I need the activity..

Anagram - Glad the Thanksgiving dinner is being prepared by someone else. I think it is time to turn it over to younger, more energetic people. Save our energy for what we enjoy doing most EATING!!!! I hope things come out alright for your hubby.

Joanne - This Dr. can't make up his mind or what? I know they don't LIKE to do knee surgery, but if you need it, you need it. I guess, try walking, very carefully, and see how it goes. You know surgery is always an option.

Ally - I think you are just kind of happy right where you are, so don't sweat it! If you feel good and are comfortable, then don't stress about it, because then you just want to eat more. I think it is better to remain a constant weight than to yoyo all over the place. Have fun at the party.

It has been incredibly beautiful weather here for this time of year. We now have NO snow left and it has been up in the 50-60's. That sure does shorten up the winter when it is like this. The problem is, it will be like year, and we will have winter in March/April and a really hot/crappy summer again. Either steaming hot or really cold. We broke all kinds of records this year for March/April/June/July/Aug./Sep. and now November.

I guess we are heading to my daughters for the weekend. Talk to you on Monday. Have a nice weekend.

Joanne, you may be past the point where it would help but have you heard of the spacer they can put in some knees now to postpone the replacement? Nurse in dr.s office had one done this year and is very happy with it. My BIL tried it but when they got in to do it, he was past the point where it would help and had the replacement done (his second, too).

I think the one thing that is often forgotten in the equation is the "quality of life". It gets so depressing not to be able to do so many things. I'm so happy to be walking again. Did a nice walk this afternoon when the sun peeked out for a few minutes.

Ally- Anagram-- I think what the whole thing comes down to is the Humana Gold Plus (hmo) is giving kickbacks to Dr's to keep people from having surgery. Once he says I need it and now he says he doesn't believe in knee repacements. He wants to keep injecting it. I am going to get by the best I can for awhile and start living my life as I want. If it gets too bad he will be forced to give me the referal. He already said if I went to the ortho surgeon he would do the surgery. I didn't intend to do anything untill after the first of the year anyhow. My daughter comes first.
The main thing for me is not to gain weight now..

Happy Canuck, when i was on atkins diet i lost 15lbs in the first 2 weeks but then it started to affecting my kidneys i think atkins is good for the 2 weeks but after that u can't let ur body just eat protein and when i added carbs i stopped losing ....be careful on it ok..ww isnt working for me too i like to eat too much and can't get head strong like i was 5 months ago i don't know what to do either it is like a vicious circle isn't it..i really want to lose some weight as i have now gained back 5lbs of the 20 i lost and i am so upset with myself..i have NO willpower....

Hey, don't be so hard on yourself. Frustration is what is happening. When you try your best, and you can't lose, it seems like it just isn't worth it - it is! Keep on with the diet. Eventually things will right themselves - I hope. Part of it is our age, and the other part is medications. I think you said you were 50 something? I am 56 and meds don't help. That is how I gained in the first place - taking anti-inflammatories. Sure don't know what it will take, but I think we had just better both keep trying. Well, I have been on Atkins for 6 weeks - still on the Induction - and I feel really good on it. I am losing inches, bit by bit. Thanksgiving is a challenge. I am Canadian, and we had our Thanksgiving in October - just a week into starting the Atkins Diet. I had a turkey, dressing, sweetpotaotes,carrots,and turnip, and mashed pototes with gravey. I, personally, had turkey, brusselsprouts,salad and was content. I made a really nice dessert just for me (cream cheese, whipping cream, diet jello) really good and I didn't feel deprived at all. It's not that I can't stick to the diet, it is that the weight sticks to me It's like it is welded on. I feel a lot better not eating carbs, as I am able to control my blood sugar of insulin levels and I don't get the big swings in fatigue that is connected with Fibromyalgia. If I can keep it level, I feel a little more energetic.

You can do it if you want, or you can just give yourself permission to enjoy the regular Thanksgiving dinner. If that is the case, I wouldn't start Atkins until AFTER Thanksgiving.

Another thing I found, because I had been on ww, was that when I counted the points I ate on Atkins, I was actually BELOW the ww points for the day, but I wasn't the least bit hungry. If I was, I just got a piece of cheese or a pepperoni stick and munched away. Atkins is easy as far as cooking goes to. Not much fuss that is for sure.

This was having 2 eggs and 2 pieces Canadian bacon for breakfast, Tuna salad for lunch, and meat and 2 cups salad and 1 cup veggies for supper.

Hey gals...I'm still here...I THINK! Drs. office called today and said my blood count is low AGAIN! Just got my gold shot yesterday so it will get lower by the first of the week. The weather is crappy here ... expecting snow the first of the week ... and COLD, so I'm hurting! Add to all that a 7 day migraine and YUCK! Been sleeping a lot. Did I tell you all that I can't find the med. for the gold shots (Solganal)? They've quit making it! The nurse said yesterday that I have enough for about 2 more shots...will last until after Christmas.

I already have 12 people for Thanksgiving dinner and hubby wants me to invite his aunt and uncle...what're you gonna do? My son and dil are moving this weekend and she called me tonight and said she'd understand (NOT) if I didn't feel like helping but she could really use my help this weekend. I told her I didn't even feel like doing what I HAD to do here let alone helping her pack and move. I think she got mad at me...but that's her problem. I'm sick and tired of everybody thinking I'm superwoman! She dumped her kids off on my poor daughter tonight and tomorrow. Poor thing leaves for work at 7:15 every morning and doesn't get home until 6 and has a 5 year old who's bipolar and a 3 year old. She really needed two more kids! She's taking them all to McDonald's for lunch and then to see Santa Clause 2 tomorrow so I told her I'd go help her...don't know how she'd manage if one of them needed to go potty! Ages 3 to 7! So...I won't be getting any housework (or anything else) done tomorrow. I'll have all my housework and baking to do Mon. thru Wed. plus teaching 2 of those days and keeping Kaylyn one! The house may not get cleaned!!!!!!!

Joanne...the Dr. told me I needed a knee replacement done over 15 years ago...it's still working. And, as long as I'm able to walk, it won't get replaced! But...I'm only 55. How old are you? Seems I remember you saying at some point but my brain isn't working too good tonight! (Or any other time!) I've had surgery on both knees but my hands & arms are in such bad shape now it would be really hard for me to use crutches or a walker. I'm just sick of doctors! I'm really down right now because of the gold shots and all. I have an appointment with the Rheumatologist in Nashville a week from Tues. and I don't want to go...I've already pushed it back 2 months so I HAVE to keep this one!

About Atkins ... I haven't lost any weight in 2 weeks now. I've had to up my carbs because of lack of energy. I forgot to eat again today until nearly dinner time and then I had to run to the bank and then hubby came home and I had to take him to get his truck which was in the garage... so... I wound up not eating until 6 again. Not good for low blood! I'm going to have to start setting an alarm or something!

The Holidays only come once a year gals so don't just dream..but enjoy...only limit the amount! Easier said than done..I baked my first batch of cookies this season and ate way too many so today I have had no sweets..well some PB but that was only 2 pts. Still have 8 pts to my min. so I can be good when I have too..but I don't like to all the time!




Computer is acting up again.....oh we had chicken and dressing for supper on our annivesary..... I let DH pick up what he wanted and I got some nice flowers and some money......


Happy...do you not eat fruit..I could not live without at least two servings a day! I leave next Wed....busy packing and stuff

The Adkins diet may get a lot of new users after the most recent study they funded. Not only do you lose more weight than with low fat diets, but your blood levels improve.
I drank vodka yesterday and now I remember why I don't drink anymore. Going to go walk the treadmill and sweat for a while....

Ally- Scotch and water..You don't retain as mush fluid ,it's better for your stomach amd best of all not too mush hangover. I started walking today... Let's hope for the best. Joanne

Went to a sort of "betting" affair tonight. Didn't win a thing but ate too much. Not really over the top but more than I allot myself. I did get a walk in today though - it was a really lovely day sandwiched in between the rainy gloppy days last week and the really cold days coming up this week.

Good luck on the walking Joanne. Did I ask before if you wear any kind of brace? Did more Christmas cards today. I like to do them first for some reason. Maybe because they're relatively easy.
