Are there any good low-fat recipes out there that doesn't
use ingredients i never heard of, or fancy foods. Is there
just some plain and simple recipes? Would somebody
have some?
Hi -- I just wanted to pop in to share this with you folks -- It definitely belongs here. Our friend LuckyLadyBug posted it and it rings true for me:
"When you get into a tight place and everything goes against you, till it seems as though you could not hang on a minute longer, never give up then, for it is just the place and time that the tide will turn." – Harriet Beecher Stowe
Keep it up, everyone -- this thread is such a great idea!
Really going to cut down posting soon but some things bear repeating, such as ECHRISTO LOST THREE POUNDS and bought a shiny red car!!! Echristo cracked me up in noting: "My car is too cute to have a fatty driving around in it. ..." She is also giving up being too critical of herself (WTG, Echristo!)
BABETTE! You are here among the Pollyanniacs! I follow your progress around the board and on the Blockette thread. You so consistently work on yourself and your progress over time is evident. I love the H. B. Stowe quote. It's really the truth ... I'm not sure who said it, but somewhere I read that so many people fail to achieve their goals because they don't realize how close they are to success at the time they decide to give up ... words to that effect!
Regan, welcome! I personally have loads of healthy recipes but I'm often too lazy to cook. I live in a very hot climate so I love food disguised as cold drinks (e.g., smoothies). I like to blend everything up into a drink, frozen fruit (even frozen vegetables) with a little water and/or ice, maybe skim milk powder or soymilk or tofu, maybe sugar or Splenda, maybe vanilla or some other flavoring. Sometimes I make a super smoothie out of a tablespoon of peanut butter, a graham cracker, skim or soymilk, a tablespoon of wheat germ (for fiber and folate), honey if desired. This really is better with a half a banana but bananas do strange things to me ... I think I'm allergic to them. I also love a smoothie with frozen peaches, skim milk powder, vanilla, a half teaspoon sugar, a package of Splenda, ice, water, frappe in blender. This tastes like an old-fashioned peach ice cream milkshake and is really heavenly and 155 calories.
I am doing really well on THE BLUE INIATIVE and my positive thinking seems to have brought some work assignments in, although I'm ostensibly out of the old career now, but MONEY IS GOOD, isn't it? I KNOW TH SCALE WILL BE MY FRIEND THIS WEEK (I'm giving it another chance).
croneeeeeeeeeeee.........you cant leave us here all alone....whether you realize it or not...you are such a motivational person and you keep most of going.....with all your witty quotes and sayings.....it truly does help to pass the pounds away......so you dont have to be MISS POLLYANNA ....but do be yourself and keep us company......* pupupupleazzzzzzzzzzzzzz*...LOL
CRONE--DITTO MOMTO2BOYS, PLEASE DON'T LEAVE HERE.I WANTED TO THANK YOU FOR WELCOMING ME THE OTHER DAY -HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO POST AS MY PUPPY HAD TO HAVE ACL REPAIR/KNEE LIGAMENT AND I TOOK VACATION TO HELP HIM AROUND THE HOUSE, TONIGHT I HAVE TO CUT HIS CAST OFF BECAUSE HIS STITCHES ARE EXPOSED. YOU HAVE BEEN SO SUPPORTIVE OF ALL THE RESPONSES I HAVE SEEN.
I WAS ABLE TO GET TO KNOW MY TOTAL GYM BETTER WHILE OFF THOUGH. I REALIZED THOUGH IT DOESN'T GET MY HEART RATE UP LIKE AEROBICS/CARDIO DOES, BUT DOES IT FEEL GOOD TO STRETCH AND FLEX/WEIGHT TRAIN? I WANTED TO DROP 30-35 POUNDS, LIKE YOU HAD MENTIONED ABOUT YOURSELD A WHILE AGO. I HAVE A PEARL YELLOW HARLEY DAVIDSON THAT I LIKE TO RIDE AROUND TOWN AND WANTED TO LOOK REALLY GOOD IN MY JEANS WHILE DOING SO. I GET ALOT OF LOOKS ANYWAY, BUT THE CONFIDENCE WITH THE WEIGHT LOSS WOULD HELP ME WHEN WALKING AWAY FROM MY PEARL.
MY POSITIVE AFFIRMATION TODAY
BE CAREFUL OF YOUR THOUGHTS, BECAUSE YOUR THOUGHTS BECOME YOUR WORDS,
BE CAREFUL OF YOUR WORDS, BECAUSE YOUR WORDS BECOME YOUR ACTIONS,
BE CAREFUL OF YOUR ACTIONS, BECAUSE YOUR ACTIONS BECOME YOUR HABITS,
BE CAREFUL OF YOUR HABITS, BECAUSE YOUR HABITS BECOME YOUR CHARACTER,
BE CAREFUL OF YOUR CHARACTER, BECAUSE YOUR CHARATER BECOMES YOUR DESTINY,
YOU ARE IN CHARGE OF YOUR DESTINY, YOU JUST NEED TO TAKE CHARGE OF IT. (FRANK OUTLAW, I THINK)
HEARD WHILE EXERCISING W/CYNTHIA KERELUK of CANADA--DOES ANYONE ELSE REMEBER HER?? GOTTA GET BACK TO WORK NOW.
PLEASE CRONE KEEP POSTING
Mom & Perle, you are so sweet! I haven't actually left the Positive Pollyanna League ... just trying to post less and focus on THE BLUE INITIATIVE!!! Have a lot of things I'm trying to get straight in my head just now, which caused me to overeat today BUT that's a good thing because it means I won't be eating in the middle of the night and tomorrow will start off on a good calorie note. I have assignments all day and into the night and that's really good financially, too. I'm also trying to go to school at my advanced crone-like age and negotiate a new career. It all takes time and when am I supposed to CARVE, huh?
Perle, it's really great how they can do the knee surgery on dogs these days. So neat to think of you following the pup around the house helping him out! I would LOVE to have a total gym and a yellow HD (although I'd be scared to ride it) and, yes, I do remember Cynthia Kereluk. I used to exercise with her when I lived in the midwest ... she was very motivating! Thanks for the positive affirmation: "YOU ARE IN CHARGE OF YOUR DESTINY, YOU JUST NEED TO TAKE CHARGE OF IT." You bet!!!
Mom, I'm glad I don't have to be Ms. Pollyanna all the time, though, that's my goal, along with the 30 pounds off the knees (me and the puppy have something in common)! I really believe that positive thinking is the only way to go and that we CAN shape our destiny ... and I want my destiny to be a positive one, not the sad, loser existence of grouchy folks with POOR ATTITUDES!!!
So I guess the above is my affirmation for today and I should just go to bed and read my new book about woodcarving!
I am thrilled, thrilled, thrilled to have found this thread and am smiling at the name of who thought of it. "crone" ordinarily doesn't have an "uplifiting" image-
This one's been around but one worth repeating
" Yesterday is the past,
Tommorrow the future,
Today is a gift,
That's why we call it the present"
Welcome to Regan and Kaylet.....one is never too late.....to join anything....!!! Crone is like our inspirational speaker of the house.....she is a heck of gal......!!!( chalking up some brownie points).....LOL
But seriously...Crone is good for getting us all into some sort of swing.....and we all tend to keep each other going......hope you all find it as much help as most of us do!!!
Kaylet....I love that saying....it rings true for sure....today is a present that I am alive and well!!!
Cant stay long.....Jesse took a spill on his bike last night tearing out a nickel size of flesh/meat from the center of his knee cap....they had no flesh to work with so they couldnt stitch him up.....they scrubbed it like a bugger and tried to get all the tar and gravel out.....but then had to put some linoleum sort of stuff on it to try to melt the tar over a period of time......so I gotta go clean it and put on new dressing .... BUT....my positive thought for today...." I AM POSITIVELY HAPPY HE HAD ON A HELMET AND WAS NOT HURT WORSE...FOR THAT I AM THANKFUL".....
Take care girls.....LisaL
CRONE, I was glad to hear it was only your plan to reduce posting instead of drop altogether. You rule--I can't believe you watched Cynthia TOO. I still have video tapes I made of her lifetime show from the 80's and 90's.She was always inspirational and put a perspective into exercising that was refreshing. I only recently got a total gym because my fiance' "got a job" after being out of work for a year.He also needs it because he has a bad knee, like our dog. SO funny both ACL tears. The total gym is what his physical therapist had him on @ their facility, low/no weight bearing on joints. I got my Harley as part of my divorce after 13 years married and he (my ex) is now in prison for molesting my neices (11 & 8) guess who put him there I did, after being accused of being over suspitious and paranoid, since I was too as a child. After the girls finally felt safe enough because I took them away from his pressure and threats to hurt my sister if they told. So I have had to holdout to lose my weight after all of these stressful times. My neices are fine and getting counseling.I keep a very close tab on them.
How did everyone get a picture under their name??? I want one too.
After what I have been through the last five years I had to create my own meaning of LIFE:
L lessons
I intended
F for
E ETERNITY
after all I learned from everyone, that's all I'm taking with me when I leave my body.
Peace out
MOMTO2BOYS--I HOPE YOUR LITTLE GUY IS OK. You are absolutely right, thankful he was wearing his helmet!!! Sending hopes for a speedy Recovery.
Glad also to see I am not the only Junior member now, welcome
Just when you think things might calm down!! Wasnt it Gilda Rander who's famous for " It's always something!!!!"
I caught myself this morning--My job is being relocated and today was the very last day - I didnt have to be in the office until almost 9 so I was off schedule that way and, I am sure you can imagine the stress. Didn't realize until I was almost out the door that I hadnt eaten and was running a real risk of getting way too hungry later--- so, since I now come first - I fixed my SpicyBean Veggie Burger and was SOOOOO glad I did because I wound up "going out to breakfast" with the group -- but I was fine, not hungry but since I only had 5 pts in me and it was nearly 10 am, I ordered the canteloupe and didnt think twice- It was a half but enormous and I enjoyed every bite.
Again, when I came home, I got distracted and again, lunch was way off schedule - but I did ok- and now I'm getting ready to go to a "farewell happy hour" . I'm getting ready by having my dinner here at home, so again, I'm not too hungry at happy hour.
I don't ordinarily drink, and even if I was tempted today, its so hot and muggy, I'd be a real mess. Not exactly the last impression I want to leave with my coworkers!!!
Is it just coincidence I found this great site and thread when all this stuff is going on...?? In my opinion, a wonderful gift.
I have to drive to another town tonight to cover a meeting and it's getting mighty late and Old Dog just came in all covered with rocks and dirt from my "natural desert" backyard (meaning rocks and weeds), but just had to post a POSITIVE thought (I really had one): Somewhere, somehow, sometime, I am going to reach each and every goal I set for myself. I always do, though it takes time!
Welcome, Kaylet! Glad you are here and also congratulations on that canteloupe "save" this a.m. It's really an accomplishment to stick to our resolve when presented with the chance for an extra fun meal out. I don't know that I'd have made it with the canteloupe. But your accomplishment in doing so will strengthen you next time the same situation presents itself, so that's real progress. Thanks for posting the saying about "The Present" ... it makes a perfect affirmation for me today for lots of reasons. BTW, I use "crone" in the highly positive sense of the beautiful mature woman who is celebrated in "croning" ceremonies (sometimes held when women reach a "certain" age, although I haven't ever been officially "croned!")
Perle, when I read your post, I wanted to say, "No, YOU rule! That is so great what you did for your nieces. Each time you ride that Harley, it is a renewed symbol of your courage and love for those girls. They are lucky to have a aunt like you! I love this: "L lessons I intended F for E ETERNITY!"
Mom, I can't believe your little guy had such a bad time with his knee! There seems to be a knee curse associated with this thread (mine are a mess) but the poor guy doesn't even post here! It is so cool, though, how you focused on the positive part of the situation: He was wearing a helmet and wasn't hurt worse! (I get mad everytime I see a kid on a bike without a helmet or worse, a so-called adult on a motorcycle.)
Got to run so I can get there in time to yak (this used to be a regular beat for me and I miss everyone). This is really only a favor to an ex-boss. Glad I don't have to do it on a regular basis as it's too far.
Crone...I so hear ya on the so-called adults riding motorcycles with no helmets...I realize its a freedom issue....but I think if one is required to wear a seat belt for safety in a car....and kids are required to wear helmets to ride a bike......why arent adults wearing helmets on a vehicle that is more vulnerable to crashes.....doesnt seem right to me.....although around here...there are only a couple of states with a no helmet law....New Hampshire is one and I believe Florida is another one.....FLorida of all places should be a helmet law state.....considering all the senile elderly people who dont bother to look before wheeling there big old caddies out of the driveways....LOL
Jesse is doing pretty well....he is having a fit though because I am supposed to be cleaning it 4 times a day to keep infections from occuring and he throws a complete fit when I take the bandages off.....so I try to do a quick clean and add more bacitracin ointment to it and then put on clean dressings....it actually looks good today.....it looks like it is starting to form a healing scab.....!!!....He always has his helmet on.....he knows if he is caught on his bike or scooter without his helmet he loses his priviledges to ride either them......but it drives me nuts seeing other kids whose parents dont inforce helmets.....apparently they dont find it a big deal......I find it more than a big deal...I value my childrens lives more than any other thing in the world.......OK OK I have ranted long enough about the helmets.....
Positive thought for today...."With each passing day, I am on my way, whether it a hard or easy day"
Just a quick note on helmets, Mom, and then I'll go back to being Pollyanna ... here we have large numbers of winter visitors and/or residents who ride three-wheelers and golf cars (you can't call 'em carts for some reason) and these riders really need to wear helmets, too, but hardly any of them do. They use these vehicles in very heavy traffic and quite a number have fatal accidents that a helmet could prevent.
I'd love to see people of whatever age value their lives more. End of my rant, too. Got to run off to an appointment.
Here I go again!! I clicked the wrong button so the following is also showing as a new thread!! It belongs right here, I wasnt relocating -- I promise I'll keep the eyeglasses on from now on!!
Hello all!!
Its now two days since the job ended and either I'm in shock or its true about anticipation!! I have done better at staying on schedule than I had thought ( after all, husband still has to get up, dogs still have to pee!!) -- I had a few moments of temptation just before lunch yesterday but convinced myself to have a real lunch before I just started grabbing. I admit, it might have been more fun to grab but once I had lunch in me, the grabbing moment passed.
As I was logging on, the story about the train popped into mind-
Do you remember the little Golden Book Story " I think I can, I think I can, I think I can--- " was it a little steam engine? dont they need water to make that steam? Do you see where I'm going with this? ( I hope this makes as much sense in print as it does in my head!!)
Anyway! if you don't have a chance to stop by over the weekened, enjoy!!!
If you have a chance, I'll be checking in to see who might have stopped by.
I am going to weigh myself tomorrow, I need a starting point-- How else am I going to brag??
Glug, glug thats the water going down!!

HAPPY FRIDAY, EVERYONE!!!
Helmets should be like putting on your clothes when riding something other than in a cage/car. It only makes sence to me a rider, to know not everyone looks around while driving for the people not protected or surronded by steel. Especially in the summertime with radios turned up, windows closed, and air conditioning running there is no way I would not wear a helmet while riding.
Today I am realizing that I cannot make myself drink my water in the morning/later is okay but then I'm in the bathroom all evening, I would rather spend the time at work in the bathromm, ha!ha!.....I process HMO referrals all day long. Looking at surgeries, tests, ya know, anything that can happen. SO getting up from my desk is something to look forward to, getting the seceratary spread was not on my intentions but everyone brings in munchies and candies and leave them here in our department and they only come visit their goodies. I have to look at them all day. It is so hard to resist.
Does anyone have any ideas to make the water go down earlier? I also tried chewing pumpkin seeds which are so salty I need to H20 to keep from coughing then bloating follows because of the sodium, Oh what to do?? Well enough gold plated problem solving---hope all is well
