My long gone doggie was named after her coat. Wrinkled Velvet. But we called her Wrinkles.

Our dog's name is Freya, after the goddess. Our cat is Magrat, after one of Terry Pratchet's witches.

My husband named his bluetick hound (female) Cedar. He calls his cats Tom, Thomas and Sissy.

My dogs' names have been Bosco (male Basset), Chassis (female Basset), Bullet (mutt), Founder (female mutt that we found--get it? We Found her? She was a wonderful dog), and Pepper. Daddy had a German Shepard named Peanut. "Twin" beagles named Freddy and Jeddy--one of them died and I called the one left Freddy-Jeddy, he didn't seem to mind.

We've had Patty, Ana, Sugar, Puppy, Wilhma, Jasmine, Poppy, and Gabe. Incidently, my older brother is thinking about getting a girl dog and naming it Rivendale.

As for Cats, we've had Whiskers, Ramone, Angela Kelley, Kitten, Tiger, P. K. (Paws Kelley), Tacky, Paul, Nicolae, Eikre (pronounced EEk-REE) Via Mon, and Mia.

I have a dog named Duncan (not after Dunkin Donuts, because we had just gotten back from Scotland, though he grew to be fat so either way works). He is a cairn terrier (same as Toto from the Wiz of Oz, but blonde). Our old dog was named Beau (Bo) and was a mutt.

We have had 4 cats, Rontu, Hudson, Onyx (the black cat) and Elsie.

Default I've got two

We have Toby, a black and white Shih Tzu/Lab cross (yes, he was an accident), and Ginger, a brindled Staffie/Lab cross. DH named Toby. I named Ginger because that is my favourite spice, and she looked like a chubby chunk of gingerbread when we got her - it all comes back to the food.

Tobys' mom is Brie, the big yellow lab, and the dad, was Gizmo, the one-eyed Shih Tzu.

My little dog was already named when we got her 9 years ago. Her full name is "Texas Little Pinto," but we call her Pinto. I had wondered how somebody would ever come up with a name like that for a girl dog, but I guess after feeding her some pinto beans one night, I figured it out on my own. *LOL*

I'm still giggling over the "Shi Tzu/Lab" cross. Yikes!

Reminds me of a joke I recently heard (TOTALLY off topic):

"Scientists have invented a new breed of dog by crossing a Collie and a Lhasa Apso. The breed is compact, convenient, and easily portable. It's a Collapso."

I hope that *reads* as well as it sounds...otherwise NO ONE's gonna get it.

And to whoever said my Basset/Chow/Spitz must be cute (I forget who posted that! Sorry!) he IS cute, and possibly the most bizarre-looking animal you've ever seen.

But back to the topic...here are some names of dogs I know from work: Caleb, Madge, Emma, Belle, Logan (after the airport in Boston ), Moose, Tito, Kipper, Sophie, Lilah, Lily, Cleo, Lucy, Murphy, Murray, Guinness, Katie, Skye, Pearl, Pixie, and about a million others...

I neglected to mention the most bizarre named cat I had and a few dogs that my ex had. They deserve at least an honorable mention, I suppose...

The cat was Sh*thead. I hadn't intended for it to be, but he used to hide behind furniture and when you'd walk by, he'd run up your leg with claws out BUT ONLY when you were wearing shorts!
Dogs were Sabastian, Abigail, Alastair, Punk, Malachi, Chica and Mocha.

Other dogs I've known are/have been Ruby, Scarlett, Micah, Fred, Lucky, Houdini, Fritz, Pebbles, Two Spots, Dee Dee, Freeway, Snappy, Daisy, Oreo, Prissy Michelle, Friskey, Petutti, Buster, Rusty Ray, Boo, Alex, Dozer....this list could go on and on.

Oh- and we had a pig I named Bacon

Let's see. My first dog's name was Princess - she was a rescued dog that we got when I was two and had until I was 21 or so. Oh, boy, what a dog she was.

The next dog I adopted not long after graduating from college and getting my own apartment. I named him Sport. I took him to meet my parents one night and my Dad came in late - he'd had a night out with the boys. Well, with slightly slurred speech he convinced me to change the dogs name to Ervin. It is his middle name and as he put it, "I know you and your sister will never in a million years name any of my grandsons Ervin after me so I might as well settle for a grand-dog with my namesake." He had a point and Ervin it was - that poor, confused puppy. I don't think he ever knew for sure what to answer to.

We just recently bought a Cockapoo puppy for our kids. We'd promised them that they could name her. Well, when the best of their suggestions were "Windchime" and "Chicken" I knew I had to step in and use some motherly psychology on them. I coaxed them into "Daisy" instead and managed to make them think it was their idea. Ahhh, yes, manipulation at its best!

Our family dog was named Hardee (for the fast food place... lol my dad named him) and our cat that we had for years was Duke. My dad named him too, for John Wayne. My sisters and I wanted to name him Muffin... thankfully my dad named him Duke, he turned out to be a huge cat... 15 - 20 lbs (not fat, just big).

We had a cat Kahlua, I don't know who picked his name.

The 2 cats that we (my family) had last, we thought were brothers, so we named them Leo and Gus. Well they turned out to be sisters lol so they became Cleo and Gus My sister has them now, but poor Gus lol she is stuck with that name!

My boyfriend and I adopted our first pet together this year. His name is Cocoa. He was already named when we adopted him, so we couldn't change it, because he knew it already. We got him in Feb, he's a 9.2 lb chihuahua who's just soooo cute. This is my baby
