Default Obesity in America Animation

I found this link, and thought it was an interesting and somewhat scary way to show the way obesity has been spreading in the USA. I thought some of you might like to see it as well.

This was my favorite.
"A survey suggests we're losing our aversion to fatness. Two decades ago, most Americans said overweight people were less attractive than other people. Now only 24 percent say so. Theories: 1) More of us are fat, so we don't want to judge others or feel bad about ourselves. 2) More of us are fat, so our perception of what counts as fat has shifted. 3) More of us are politically correct, so we've learned not to tell pollsters how ugly we think fat people are. 4) Our views about the aesthetics of plumpness have changed in past centuries and will change again." I mean not even one state is green or blue, that is so sad. Something in our country MUST change!

Anyone hear about the possible life expectancy for young children now? There could be a generation that will have shorter lives than their parents due to the obesity epidemic. It's so disheartening.

well harpochick funny you should mentikon life expectancy... its actually increasing! the kids born around or after 2005 will live upto even 120 years age. (may be its all multifactorial: increased medical advances, health awareness etc. etc...)

Sad thing is, a couple of years ago I would have thought this animation is a good thing. "Yay, I'm getting to be normal because everyone else is getting fat!"

I'm glad I don't think that way anymore.

If Americans are getting so fat.....why are most of the clothes made so small? I always hear that the average size for ladies clothes is a size 14 but many times all I can find is sizes smaller than that. It seems like retailers don't have a clue.

I don't buy their stats though.... I happen to live in WA but travel to MO to visit family... and there is NO WAY on this earth that the obesity rate is anywhere near the same. MO has a MUCH higher percentage of obese people than WA, IMO. On the West Coast... also goes for CA and OR -- there are HUGE "pushes" for healthier living, eating, etc. I certainly don't mean to imply perfection... LOL I AM one of the fat people in Seattle. But I would have to see a whole lot more convincing evidence to believe that the rate is the same on West Coast and in the Midwest.

I agree. Too many variables. I've pretty much stopped paying attention to "statistics" "theories" and "studies", and rely on my own experiences and what I see and hear for myself. They contradict themselves too often to be of much value, IMO. average folks end up running around like chickens without heads just trying to keep up with the latest "info" by "professionals" who claim to have only our best interest at heart. Not saying they're all bad, but being saturated with information that constantly contradicts other information leaves one not knowing what to believe. Using our own common sense, to me, is just as reliable if not more so, as lot of these studies and statistics.

Exactly!!!! Too often statistics can be made to say what they want them to say.
