Wow, what a great thread! My dog (see my picture) is a chocolate lab name Kiley. I had idea what to name her, but I wanted a real name so I looked up in baby name websites for Irish names. I settled on Kiley (for a female) or Riley for a male. Her sister in the litter was named Pepsi. Funnily enough, I met a lab owner the other day who had a male named Riley.
We currently have a 6 lb. Black & White Chihuahua named Godzilla - but often call him "Zilly," "Zilly Boy" or Boo. He answers to either. We also have a black and white cat named Buster.
In the past, we've had German Shepards named Shon (German for pretty, pronounced Shern), Bear, and Dame. A fox terrier named Honey, a cocker spaniel named Trevor and a Dachsund named Gertrude (Trudy for short). Also, black cats named Spooky and Shadow and a tabby cat that we named Cindi Lauper because of her hair coloring.
You could try Milou (the very clever dog in the Tintin comics from Belgium), or Pitou which is French for doggie. A friend called his female beagle Poupoune which sort of means woman of easy virtue.
Dixie is a wonderful name for that sweet-faced pup! It's a great call name too for training her...it ends in a vowel and has that crisp sound that dogs respond to.
One of the funniest...and most fitting...names I ever heard belonged to a friend's bull terrier: "Knuckles".
Dixie - that is a cute name and your little pup looks adorable!
BF and I adopted a puppy from a Labrador Retriever rescue org. Litter size was 11 and they named the litter the Brady pups - all the pups were named after characters in the Brady Bunch tv show (incl butcher sam, housekeeper alice). Ours was Oliver (the cousin). We changed the name to Coal as he is solid black. We have a jillion nicknames for Coal too, depending on the occasion, including Sh*tsky, Braticus, Lumpa, Mommy's big boy and Daddy's little guy (at 75 pounds).
Love the thread - everyone wants to talk about their pets!
BTW, my folks had a cat named Julio because my father, who worked at a school, found him by the schoolyard (for those who know the Simon and Garfunkel tune "Me and Julio down by the schoolyard".
My dog's name is Bailey, he named himself, it was the only thing that he would answer to, and yes that is him as my icon, as a pumpkin three years ago for halloween
