I'm another one that simply hates skinny jeans. No matter what body type. They either make your lower half look like a stuffed sausage, a chicken drumstick, or awkward stick legs. They violate every common sense law of flattering clothes. I just hate 'em. It's as if all fashion designers held a meeting to find the one garment that was the most tragically unflattering on every female figure in the world and said "Yes, this is what should be in style."

That said, to be entirely honest, no, I don't think they look good Not that they don't look good on YOU, I don't think Megan Fox (or whoever) can pull skinny jeans off. I personally think they make your hips and thighs look wider than they are, and they give you the silhouette of an ice cream cone. And please please please don't take that personally, they just don't look good on anybody. I know I look like garbage on a stick in skinny jeans (yes, I have tried a pair on out of morbid curiosity). Skinny jeans do nothing to accentuate anybody's strong qualities, but they will make the parts you want to minimize stand out. They're like flaw highlighters.

Thaaaaat all being said...I'm just one goober on the internet with an opinion, so if those skinny jeans make you feel hot, then I 100% think you should wear them with confidence Not everyone is going to like all styles or garments, and various looks will come in and out of fashion...but confidence is always in style

It's all good, I completely understand what you're saying, nothing taken personally. I just thought I'd give it shot, ya know? And thank you for your opinon, I really do appreciate it.

I have a few pairs - I only wear them with pumps or with high heeled knee high boots, and I like to keep the top a little more flowy.

We seem to be about the same height and roughly the same weight. I wear a size 14 relaxed right now. My MIL accidentally bought me some skinny jeans. It was a thoughtful gesture, but OMG! I can't stand the way they look on me. Of course, I probably don't see myself exactly as other people do. I was so self-conscious wearing them, I've thought about giving them away. For me, you see, I've had a couple of children, and my stomach is not what it used to be, so it created sort of a bulge there. I don't see that problem on you, though. I went back and bought some Lee Riders relaxed kind, that are straight leg, and I think they even things out a bit better. Obviously, you are a lot younger than me, so I think you might be able to pull it off better than I do. BTW, I like the first boots.

It's hard to know if they flatter your shape without a good comparison. Can you post a pic of you in straight leg and/or boot cut? That way it would be easier to see which style is best for you personally.

theCandEs-
Thank you =]
Here's a picture of me in more of a straight leg jean, I guess. The wash of the jean (light) isn't flattering but the style is different than the skinnies:

See I prefer the look of the skinny jean than the straight-leg on you!

I've always thought style is a very personal thing. I've had people tell me I look terrible in something and the next person says it looks fabulous. Not just whether they like it or not but whether it suits me or not!

I find it hard to find skinny jeans that will fit over my legs/bum/hips/waist (all at once!) and then I discovered jeggings. WOW. They're like leggings but made of denim. You can get cheap ones that feel like leggings and just LOOK denim, or actual denim ones (which I prefer). They're slightly elasticated so they fit perfectly EVERYWHERE and I love them.

Shoe-wise, I usually wear them with ballet flats. On top it varies. T-shirts are good. But I love wearing my skinnies with floaty tops as well, as I find a floaty top and bootlegged/wide-cut jeans make the whole look too undefined and flair-y (is that even a word?) and the skinny cut works better.

But again, I think it's personal! If you like em, work it! If you're not sure/think you'll never wear em, take them back. There's no point in keeping them if you're not comfortable with them, because you'll never wear them!

Have you tried a trouser jean? Both of those jeans look pretty similar to me. My usual jeans are trouser - something like this

I'm with Munchy. The straight leg pair has the same problems as the skinny jeans pair. They're tapering down which makes your hips and thighs look larger than they actually are. Like chicken drumsticks.

To echo Stacy and Clinton, you need to fit the widest part of your leg. I personally have thunder thighs, that big muscle bulge on the top of my thigh. So I find a pair of jeans that fits snuggly on that and is then straight down from there. Noooo tapering or flaring involved. That gives me the slimmest and most balanced appearance. For my legs, this fit usually comes from a boot cut pair of jeans, occasionally I'll get the fit I want from straight legs.

I love the look of trouser jeans, and I agree that they would probably look great on you, bunnythesAINT. My booty is too flat to pull them off. All the pairs I've tried on just look saggy and frumpy on me. But I still try them on in hopes that I'll find a pair that will work

I have issues getting skinny jeans over my calves, and when they do they just look awkward. (Ty running!)

I usually go for straight leg, the Topshop ones seem to fit me quite nicely.
I quite like some of the Gap styles too, and they always fit really nicely over bum/thighs, but I'm just not overly fond of a big flare, or too much loose fabric over calves.

It can be really frustrating to walk through an entire shopping centre of clothes stores to find nothing but skinny/super skinny and boyfriend cut jeans.

I'm a recent skinny jeans convert. I work at a plus size store and I'd tried an several pairs in the last few years. I always hated them. However, I fell in love with a pair of slouchy, westernish boots and bought them without considering what I'd wear with them. Skinny jeans were suggested by a coworker and I actually liked them!

I also like yours. They're a good uniform dark wash. I think boots would work well. If you're going to do flats I might suggest a hem so you don't have to worry about bunching adding bulk. For a top I'd vote for something longer and a little flowy. Maybe a v-neck and a major accessory up top.

For skinny jeans in general, I agree they're not for everyone. I'm by no means a fashion expert but due to my job I not only try on a lot if clothes but I see a lot of other people try on clothes. Skinny jeans, in my opinion, seem to work best when you have longish legs (proportionate to your body, I mean)
and don't carry a great deal of weight in your stomach area, or have really broad shoulders. But there are exceptions. And frankly, some jeans are just better than others, and look great regardless.

Anyway, bottom line? If you like them, wear them! How you feel is as important as how you look.

I think the straight leg jean is better, but that's just me. I'm old and I like that look. I like the trouser jean, too. I don't like clothes that stick to me. Of course, that is the look these days, and who's to argue with style?

Uhm, i think for every styles there will be people who like and dislike.
So it all comes down to whether you want to wear it or not.
Since there will always be people who think it looks good on you and others who think its not.

On the topic, I don't see much differences between the straight leg and the skinny one. And I even think the skinny one makes your thighs look smaller than the straight leg.

And i personally don't like the trouser one. I think it makes thighs look fatter than it should be. But that just me. And it also depends on the trouser's color. But overall I don't like that style.

bunny - I think it's all a matter of what you put with them. A looser top that hits at the hip plus a pair of slouchy boots (not skin-tight) to give you some volume in your lower leg tends to balance everything out, at least on me. And my one pair of skinnies are in the blackest of black to minimize my many flaws Have fun rocking your new jeans!

I'm with Munchy. Everytime I wear that jean ^ people say I look taller and think I've lost weight. No straight or skinny jeans for me! Mine are all Trouser or Flaired/Boot cut.

Get them a little long and wear a little heal, I bet you'd look great!
Good luck!
