PCOS/Insulin Resistance SupportSupport for us with any of the following: Insulin Resistance, Syndrome X, Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, or other endocrine disorders.
New here. I am wondering about a chicken / egg question here. I understand that insulin resistance can CAUSE PCOs, but I thought I have also heard that PCOs can cause insulin resistance to develop (or worsen?) ...
does anyone know about this or have any experience?
I ask because I was thinking of trying a natural, inexpensive treatment to get rid of PCOs, but did not know if that would help the insulin resistance.
I'm tired today. I'm having a PCOS flare-up this week.
What are you working on?
I've been invited to participate in a special PCOS Treatment study. I'm leaving Florida to Chicago next week to see the specialist. I'm trying to blog each step for my friends (mypcostreatment.blogspot.com).
How was last month?
Better than this month. Bleed was lighter.
How's your PCOS management going?
It's not being managed at the moment. We're hoping this study will help.
Hi! I have PCOS and was diagnosed after getting married and trying to get preggo. Gained a ton of weight on Clomid and TTC...then bedrest. Then just being in survival mode with kiddos.
My PCOS has always made it an obstacle to lose weight...I just could break more than 5-10 pounds. But I've finally decided that no matter what my weight, I can still be healthy with PCOS. I've stuck to diet and excercise and it's coming off. Maybe more slowly than others, but I broke that mental block that told me I wouldn't be able to lose weight b/c of PCOS.
I believed that for a long time and totally used it as my personal excuse. I wish you ALL luck..whether TTC, maintaining hormone levels, etc. PCOS just downright sucks....bt we can do what we can!!

It's an endocrine disorder. I view it like a domino effect since the endocrine system affects so many systems. Once you get one domino falling, it can crash into another, but we all have our own domino set up. So my dominoes might not be the same as yours.
PCOS patients come in at least 5 different types, not all of them IR.
At this point I am PCOS, IR (under control), Syndrome X, and hypothyroid. I'm hoping to get a grip on it before some other endocrine problem falls over too.
Does anyone on here have endimitriosis? Iv been having terrible problems with my bowel very sharpe pains like the pcos but it is in my bowel all the time have any of you experiences this? xxx
ems81wales: Sounds uncomfortable! No, I do not have endo, so no experience with that. Could it be something else? Def get that looked at.
My Check In:
So I'm back. We didn't really go anywhere, but DH took a week off and we had a very restful "staycation." But like the first day back Mom's calling me about Dad. Ugh. I really don't know why she's backtracking. I thought we'd agreed last month to get him evaluated! So frustrating.
Anyway for myself... still no TOM. It's like CD79. I don't feel like waiting another 10 days to make it 90 days with no period so I already scheduled a doc visit to ask for Provera to "reboot" me.
I'm still not sure if I want to go back on BCP though.
Ems.... No, I don't have endometriosis, but I've had those sharp pains sometimes when I have gas (I know, TMI!!!!).
Checking in too, I've been practically perfect for the last week and I haven't lost any weight. I love PCOS..... not!!!!
I'm hoping that it'll kick in, someday, again.
Tomorrow is another day. Today I'm very low on my calories and I still have pilates to head off to. Maybe tonight is the night that the weight magically disappears..............
How are you?
I am doing pretty good. I had a fitting for my bridesmaids dress for my brothers wedding, I wasn't so excited for that ... but, I have a goal!!
What are you working on?
Making them take in inches off that bridesmaids dress!! Started working on my low carb. I know I can do it, I just need to find more recipes that will keep my variety up!!
How was last month?
I was fighting the urge to go low carb. But, I know that I need to make this lifestyle change, it is just so hard ... BUT I KNOW I CAN DO IT!!
How's your PCOS management going?
Metformin, BCP, cinnamon ... apparently it is good, according to my last blood tests. Just need to get rid of the weight!
So I am new. Hi! And I'm late considering this is a beginning of the month thread but I am happy to find a pcos/ir and weight loss group that is active so I wanna join in!
Who's here?
Me! Courtney. I am 27, married and just adopted our two foster kids. I am a therapist. I live in the middle of nowhere. What else ya wanna know?
How are you?
Pretty good. Ticked that this weight came back. Ticked that my hormone levels were so jacked up but at least that explains why the weight went back up. Trying to refocus and get back on track.
What are you working on?
Getting back to low carbon, higher protein and honestly tracking my food intake. Dr upped my metformin this week so adjusting to that and hoping it helps. My initial weight loss goal is to hit 220. Then 199. Then...well, I'll worry about that when i get closer!
How was last month?
Felt like crap, gained weight, fatigued, blah, blah, blah. But that is over now!
How is your pcos management going?
It was non-existent for a while..each of my docs thought the other was doing something and I unknowingly got left out. Not anymore! Increased metformin. Still waiting on a period. Debating on birth contol as I don't want to prevent pregnancy but know it's super unlikely (hubby has fertity issues too...lucky us!) and I am not regular without it. Dr two weeks ago gave me a new script and told me to start it after my period...still waiting. Getting back on band wagon for low carb high protien.
I've been SOOO lazy about exercise this week. It's TOM for me and it wipes me out. (excuses, excuses!) But, on a good note, this is the first cycle in a LONG time that I haven't packed on water weight. Usually the scale jumps up about 5 pounds, but it's been steadily decreasing each day instead. Weird.
I'm officially enjoying ONEderland for the first time in too long! I hit it last week but wasn't sure if it would hold. It has and I'm feeling so proud. Not proud enough to get off my lazy duff to exercise apparently, but still proud.
TOM for me too. However, I am happy to report that my weight is slowly starting to come down finally after stopping the dexamethasone. I am consistently weighing under 160 now It sucks that I can't lose weight as fast as I put in on while on steroids.
I have to go back for a blood test next week to see if my androgen levels are still suppressed. I have started back on high estrogen BCP (Zovia 1/50E) and it is making me break out on my face. It really sucks because I was never prone to acne on my face and always had great complexion.. Now I look like I am just hitting puberty
nest -- welcome! It is an all month thread -- just that the first post it usually the recap/intro from last month.
dogdaysofdiets -- onederland! Woot! I haven't seen that in a long time myself. I hope I get back there!
nina125 -- hang in there!
MY CHECK IN
Saw the doc, she's no longer suggesting provera but gave me a 'scrip for orthocyclen and that should kick it into gear. I had asked whether I should or shouldn't go back on and she said it is really up to me but she doesn't think a cycle is needed.
I have to think on that. I do have the pills, but I see endoc soon.
I wish it were more clear cut for me but it isn't. I don't want more children, so for now it is condoms.
I do feel less pcos GRRRR! crazy on the pill but at the same time... I sleep better OFF the pill, and I think I feel better off it in other ways than just sleep.
Did I mention I failed my sleep study? My sleep is still not woooonderful but it is better than before. I chalk it up to caregiver stress, and I'm not even the primary caregiver!
Bright side -- my kid beat me bowling and got her first strike!
