Default Period Question

First off, let me preface this by saying that I have not been diagnosed w/ PCOS by my gynecologist. My primary physician was pretty convinced that I had PCOS but after my yearly gynecological check-up my gynecologist did not agree.

At the time (this was August of last year) I hadn't had a period in 6 months. My gynecologist prescribed Provera which I take for 10 days a month. Every month has been like clockwork. I take my Provera for 10 days and about 3 days later I start my period. HOWEVER, this month it has already been 7 days and I still haven't started.

The only thing I can figure is that my weight loss has something to do w/ it. I've lost a total of 65 pounds since I started on the Provera. I would assume that since weight gain affected my period so can weight loss. Have any of you ladies been through this???

I have my yearly check up coming up soon and had planned on being switched over to birth control, anyway, but I just wanted to see if anybody else has had similar experiences and, if so, how it was resolved.

It's possible the weight loss affected your hormones. Fat is biologically active and your fat cells secrete hormones. Therefore loosing weight can throw off your hormones. Especially if you lost it rapidly.

I would recomment seeing an endocrinologist to give you a real diagnosis and to give you bloodwork and hence a more accurate assesment of what hormones are out of whack.

I knew I had this disorder for years before I saw someone qualified to help me. I found out I was also hypothyroid in addition to PCOS. This stunted my weight loss greatly and made me wish I'd gone on tyhroid meds sooner. Also I have crappy insurance and it covered an endocrinologist vist.

hope that helps

Gotta ask - any chance you're pregnant?

Sorry, I meant to put that in the original post and forgot. Absolutely NO chance...well, I guess there IS immaculate conception...but I'm thinking once is all people are gonna buy that story. Seriously, though, no sex for almost 3 years now...definitely not pregnant.
