Thank you, Jaime, for starting the new thread. It's good to keep the threads not too long, as a courtesy for those that have a dial up internet server.

For any of you that have noticed I haven't been around as much lately, my DH has been in and out of the hospital with 2 herniated discs in his spine. On Wednesday, he had an epidural, but is still having pain, and some numbness, too. He has an appointment with a specialist tomorrow, so maybe we will get some encouraging news. I haven't handled the situation very well, foodwise, and need to make a better effort to not feed the stress. Maybe I should pay more attention to the quote in my own signature, right?

Here's hoping you have had a good weekend!

Wow, Jane, I hope you do get good news at the specialist tomorrow. We're thinking of you (and him)! Good luck!!

Edit: Out of curiousity, I just google-mapped my daily walk to school. It's 1.5 miles each way, that means I'm walking 3 whole miles four days a week. I didn't realize it was that far. I'll take it though!

I finally uploaded an avatar. This is one of my miniature horses, Leo. He is 34" tall and suuuuch a cutie! I miss him so much when I'm away at uni!

Oh Jane, I'm sorry to hear about your husband. I hope you get good news from that specialist.

Freedom, Leo is a cutie! My DH's name is Leo so I can say that with confidence. Have you ever tried gmap-pedometer.com? It's an interesting little system that lets you plot your walking (or biking, or whatever) course exactly and it tells you distance and a sketchy kcals burned number. I think it's easier than google maps to handle for this purpose. I definitely recommend trying it out. As for walking 3 miles a day, that's awesome!

Jane - Here's hoping for that good news from the specialist. And some positive thoughts, too!

Freedom - What a cutie your horse is!//All those extra steps really add up. Awesome to see that you're doing more activity than you thought!

I haven't really jumped into talking here much, but I hope it's okay if I do occasionally. Can you believe I'm still kind of looking for a "daily" group sort of talk? I'm silly.

Hey, cool site, thanks suite! Going my exact route is actually 1.3665 miles. That's really neat. Apparently I burn about 325 calories just getting from home to there and back. Not bad! Leo is so little but he makes up for it in personality. He's so heartbreakingly cute. He's had some bad hoof problems because his old owners didn't seem to understand what a farrier was and so he sort of waddles when he walks, poor thing. He's doing much better now than he was when we first got him. It's taken more than two years to get his hooves back to a reasonable state.

Faerie, you ought to come by and post more often - the more the merrier! The more of us that do, the more "daily" it will become!

I got my WW order today. I bought the magazine earlier this month and used the form inside it to order the Eating Out guide and some snacks. I got the mint chocolate whipped bars, which are really good for 1.5 points, some roasted peanut granola bars, also 1.5 points each, and some Fruities gummy things which are 1/2 point for the whole little tube! I have been looking for good snacks to take with me to school so these'll be great! I've only tried the chocolate bar so far but I am quite impressed with the Dining Out guide because it has a whole listing of pub grub!! I had that problem the other day when I was going out and made a thread about it, and now I won't have to worry so much because I have the listing. I'm very pleased!

Hi, Faerie! Hope you stick around for chatters, like freedom said, the more the merrier!

Freedom, glad you like the site. I spent like an hour playing with it after I saw someone around 3FC recommend it (maybe Mandalinn? I forget). My route to work is 1.7 miles, which means my pedometer either doesn't like the numerous hills I have to climb or I have my stride set wrong as it tends to tell me it's 1.5 miles. Hrm.

Poor little Leo, not being taken care of! I've never been around horses for any long period of time... I went riding once and we have neighbors who have horses, that's it. I think they're beautiful animals, though, and have such big personalities! I can only imagine how cute your little mini horse must be.

So man, am I glad I spent some time last night preparing lunch for the next few days! I woke up at 5:58 -- two minutes before my alarm -- and turned it off. Next thing I know I'm waking up again at 6:43, with a whole 12 minutes to shower, dress, fix hair, pack lunch, grab stuff and get the bus (it only runs once an hour)! I think I did pretty good... Managed to get the bus, avoiding the $18 parking fee I would have had to incur if I had driven. The only things I forgot were spinach for lunch and my breakfast hardboiled egg... But all 8 million other tupperware things I fixed for my lunch and snacks are with me.

This seems kind of pointless to be sharing but I do have a funny tie-in with it... I just went to our little local country store type thing to grab some coffee (no time to make at home) and decided to grab a bunch of spinach in advance of lunch so I don't have to go out again. When I brought it up to the cashier with my coffee (at 7:30 in the morning), she looked at me and said (earnestly), "Do you just eat your spinach plain? Is that your secret to health? Is it better for you plain? Do you eat it with your coffee?" It kind of made me laugh... here's this woman who's skinny as a board asking me for health advice. Oh, I guess I shouldn't laugh, but it sure made me scratch my head for a minute.

Well, I better stop with this silliness, I have a seemingly neverending project to work on... Happy Monday Flexers!

Hi Jane Good Luck at the Specialist. I also have back problems so know how he feels, and hope he feels better soon!

I Love The horse Leo, he is very pretty. I have 2 mini schnauzers as pets, and a black cat. They really keep me entertained as I dont get out that much due to my back. You all are just so motivating to me, plus you lift my spirits!!

Jane best of luck to you and DH, poor guy!

Free, your mini is so cute! Definitely embrace your successes, someone had a quote, the scale isn't the best measure of success it's just the most convenient. If you think about it, isn't the way you feel and getting out and getting fresh air and not feeling like you're not going to make it better than seeing a certain number on the scale. (I'm convincing myself here too )

I kept a calendar last year of my weight loss journey, this year it's got more stuff on it, but I noticed the same thing happened to me last year, I had that great New Year's resolution start and then it kind of wore off/slowed down in Feb. some months were better than others, but like I was saying to DH tonight, not quitting got that weight off and kept it off last year and the same thing will happen this year.

Suite, I can't wait to check out that site, I have the same pedometer issues. I measure with the car if I'm driving out the way I walk, but the ped. says less, so I guess it's the setting???

Hey Clburchett, I don't think the others will mind if I say "Of course! Join right in"... Heck I'll even echo the rest and say "The more the merrier."

Made it back from the WW meeting. I lost 7 pounds this week, my first week... Probably just water, but what the hey, a pound is a pound. DH wanted some chicken so I ran into Kroger's afterwards and got a roasted chicken. Now I'm worn out, so I will chat with you all tomorrow sometime.
