Hey yo! Gonna be a great day! I'm headed off to work in a few minutes and excited because I just got more hours...bad part is that means I'm working two evenings a week and I'm worried about dinner time. There's a fridge there to keep food cool and a microwave to heat it up, but there's just not a lot of time! I'll be working 4pm-9pm on Tuesday & Thursday now. Think I should just do the shakes those nights?
|
Yeah DECEMBER! If I can make it through this month, the rest will be easy:) (well, easier).
I started Nov 1...so as of today I am down to 172...14 lbs in one month! When I first started and saw people saying they had lost 10+ in a month I never thought it would be me. I had been trying for a year and a half...counting calories, exercise (a lot), and stayed in the same 5 lb range. My body really likes this way of eating. And even if I stay in the same calorie range but eat something off plan, my body revolts by not budging on the scale. The one time I tried to shift the plan a little bit (still staying at the same calories)...I started gaining...and once I got back on track it took me over a week to start seeing it on the scale. But that is a huge learning lesson for me. For myself, I need to stay strictly on plan in this phase. And if I keep at it, by Feb or March I'll hit goal, then as I add in more foods I can add in more exercise. Jen-I saw that you have a sick little one...no fun! My 3 year old has it too...and I don't feel the greatest...and I really need to not be sick for the next 27 days:) Come Dec 28, I could have a sick day. 1bighog-I also often work through supper...and I don't have access to a fridge/micro. I had asked about doing a replacement at night and the one counselor said no, that you don't get enough nutrients for your supper meal. So I've done tuna (or chicken) and bread with cut up veggies...(usually more tuna than will go on one piece of bread). Other things that do heat up easy and are quick-ish to eat...soups that are OP and the zucchini lasagne (I really liked that). I also made turkey meatloaf muffins that were amazing...I ate them both hot and cold. |
Hi all,
So far, so good! I've been at MRC since Nov. 7 and lost 12.5 pounds. I'm giddy, especially since most of the time I've just been on the pre-conditioning menu. I just got my meals-made-easy plan from the nutritionist yesterday. I'm very impressed at how the center was willing to work with my very specific needs. I have a lapband and can't tolerate artificial sweeteners, so I'm a difficult client. Onward! I hope everyone has a happy, loss-filled month. Chickadee |
24 days till Christmas!!! we are sneaking away for Christmas for a romantic long weekend at the beach so i plan on being at least 5 pounds lighter! :-) Trying new recipes this month and planning on taking my HNSs to mix at the many parties ahead. cutting up veggies and keeping in ziplock bags to make sure they are handy to enjoy.
Looking forward to bringing in the New Year a thinner me! |
Relative drinking at parties....
For those on maintenance that can have wine, this is what I do.. I order a wine cooler in a large glass, then when thru with glass ask them to fill it with club soda only and I add a red HNS to it, so it looks like a grenadine type drink... It works and keeps the weight down.. I also take a fat and carb blocker with it. I have two parties Saturday and Sunday of next week, and that is what I will do. That will be a challenge for sure. Hope everyone has a great December! I know it will be a challenge for me, but I figure if I wasn't on a diet then the damage would be much worse ;) |

One thing I learned with the bars and shakes-- if you do end up using them more than 3x a week, at some point in your weight loss they will cause you to stall. That happened to me (I think after I was about 30 or 50 lbs down), and I had to stop eating so many replacements in order to break through the plateau. |
Big Hog, you could buy those bag salads and just eat it out of the bag :-) i've done that even on the road on sales calls. just make sure the croutons are 40 cal. or less (2 TB croutons are actually only 25 cal.) or throw away and eat melba toast w/ salad. if you grill some chicken beforehand (great w/ Mrs. dash), cut that up and put on salad. or cottage cheese or boiled eggs... string cheese is good too or just cheese cut up in cubes over the salad...
the shakes would be good too but i've found the bars add too many carbs if eaten more than 3X a week to have a good weight loss... if you are doing the replacement shake, eat some cut up veggies too (celery, green peppers, cucumbers, etc.) i use lite honey dijon dressing (35 cal. for 2TB) Maple Grove Farms, 0 fat, 9g carb, 8 g sugar been on MRC since August and funny i just realized this week! that about the bars when i started using Livestrong.com to track ...gives percentages and i was going way over the 20% carb percentage for the day....when eating too many bars... |

Tomorrow will make 3 weeks on Metabolic for me and I'm down 12 pounds as of an hour ago! I'm super stoked because after Thanksgiving, my goal from here on out is 2.5 pounds per week and I didn't think I would meet that this week from being off program last week. I was down 0.5 pounds when I weighed in Tuesday and down 2 pounds when I weighed in today! Still didn't see 160s at MRC (I hit 169.8 butt naked yesterday at home), but I'm down to 170 exactly. :) Thanks for the advice on dinner, everyone! I think I will do the shake tonight just because I'm so busy today, but I will plan better for next week. |
Just getting started...
Ok so I have my information (Thanks Jen B) and I'm ready to start. I'm actually going to start on Monday 5th cause I have my kids with me this week and there is no working out/eating right with them around. Just some background on me, I'm 31 and have 4 children...a 6 year old and THREE 4 year olds. Yepa, I have triplets and let me tell you, it took a toll on my body. My kids are now all in school, though my trip go only a half day, so I'm planning on hitting the YMCA in the AM and trying to eat right to feel better. I have had problems with my thyroid and Cholesterol since the triplets and God knows I have to be around a long time to raise them correctly :) I look forward to the support and getting to know everyone!

Welcome!! I think you will find our discussions here very helpful! :welcome:

Arumbaugh
Welcome... This is a wonderful supporting forum.. Wishing you the best in your new challenge. I am on maintenance now. Patzi |
1bighog - Congrats on the new job. The ladies have listed a lot of great advice on what to do at night. There are ways around the shakes. Just plan, plan, plan and you will be fine. :)
nwcgina - Congrats on the weight loss! That's awesome! The munchkin is doing so much better today. I think we have finally turned the corner. :) Chickadee - That's a great weight loss for less than a month. Just stick to the plan and you'll do great! teacherlady79 - What you said about the bars is so true. It never occured to me until you mentioned it before and when I cut back on them, my weight loss picked up. Thanks for the tip!!! Arumbaugh - Welcome and glad I could help. :) I have to give you credit for handling a 6 year old and 4 year old triplets. I only have a 2 year old and with her being sick, I called my mom last night and yelled "I want MY mommy!" LOL She offered to come over, but I think it was just saying that that made me feel better. My pregnancy took a toll on me too (hospitalized with severe pre-eclampsia that almost sent me into a coma). I weigh 20 pounds less than when I got pregnant and feel incredible now. It can be done. You just have to stick with it. Good luck! |
Did the shake last night and it wasn't bad. :) I didn't feel hungry, either. My job is really fun and busy so I didn't have time to concentrate on food and by the time I got home I was pooped. I woke up this morning and went through my morning ritual of crawling out of bed, taking a leak, stripping down to my birthday suit, and stepping on the scale...down a whole 2 pounds from yesterday! 167.8 was the magic number (I'll keep my ticker to my weigh in # at the center, though.)
I had a rough night. My baby (well, my 5 year old baby) came down to my bed around 3 in the morning. Then my dog's stomach was growling so freaking loud that neither of us could go back to sleep. We stayed up until 5 until I decided to move us out into the living room. My dog tried to follow us out but I told her to stay with daddy, lol. Didn't sleep in the living room because the tree was so bright. I had to get up at 6, anyway. It might just be a two cup coffee kind of day. I'd like to get my house clean (at least the downstairs and laundry done) and my 9 year old girl is having a friend spend the night tonight. I also need to take care of some PTO stuff at my two middle kids' elementary school (I'm the treasurer) so that means you should not see me back on this thread today! ;) Have a great day, everyone! |
bighog-it does sound like we are very much the same. I hit 171 this morning! I'm still in a little shock about how good this is working:)
I was sick yesterday so didn't eat much. But feel better today. This whole month is hard with walking into stores and being assaulted by all kinds of goodies, my work schedule is CRAZY with late night games and all day basketball tournaments (I'm always hungry when I get home, too), and of course...the celebrations. I have two Christmas parties this weekend. The first is tonight...my husband's work party. He works for his family's business, so I even helped pick out the menu...but that was back before MRC. But even though there are twice baked potatoes and desserts I can't have, there are several veggie options and some fruit (what is anyone's experience with moving your fruit to the evening for just such occasions?) Tomorrow is the husband's family Christmas...luckily I miss brunch which will be just full of cinnamon rolls (I'm making some easy ones called cowboy rolls to get the ingredients out of the house). For both I plan on having my HNS ready either for a salad dressing or to mix with my diet soda. I will make it through this. I will not take a step back or stall for a week or two just for a cookie:) I will see the 160's by the end of next week!! |
Hi ladies!
It is FRIDAY! I am so happy to see this week come to a close :) Fortunately, I don't foresee any real challenges this weekend like some of you have. Those Christmas parties are rough...simply being around all of the goodies is too much for me at times. I do my best to avoid those, and having a husband that is a bit of an "introvert" anyway helps! Try to keep your eyes on the ultimate prize!! Seems that for me at least, the less hard I try at this diet, the better I seem to do. Seems weird, but I am finding it to be true. I have more success when I randomly get on the scale than when I purposefully get on it every day...don't know if that makes sense or not...lol. I guess what I am trying to say here is just do your best. Be realistic, but don't aim to be perfect. The weight comes off simply by making good choices. My hubby always tells me that the harder on work on my hair, the worse it looks! At first I got pissed (lol) and then realized that was true, along with many things in my life that I put way too much focus on doing "just right." Sometimes taking it a little easier on ourselves reeps much better results.... Have a great weekend all! Focus on shopping for Christmas presents while chewing gum, and that might get our minds off all those darn goodies out there!! Our mouths will be full and our minds busy!! |
Hi...
I had maintenance weigh in and gained 1/2 pound putting me back to 5 pounds under goal.. It was the peanuts.. I tried them again, and every time I do I gain, so that is a trigger point, so am going to eliminate them 100% from my diet. I will be careful this week, due to two parties coming up, a week from this Saturday. If anyone has any OP recipes for the holidays, please share. I try to stay pretty much OP this time of year, so as not to gain. Wishing everyone a great weigh in and a nice day. Patzi |
Happy Friday!!! i found some jeans and some cute Liz Claiborne jackets i haven't been able to get into for two years and they fit!! there was a black skirt in there too, pencil style that i got on but couldn't button so i'm keeping that hanging on the door to try it on again next week...:-)
I agree with all of you that my body loves this way of eating too! i've been trying to lose this weight off and on w/ weight watchers, then tried protein shakes only, etc., tried Atkins for a week!, etc. for a couple years and would lose maybe 3-5 lbs and then gain it back. i look forward to my cinnamon toast or cheese toast in the am w/eggs.. i was down another pound this am! i did find out when i went back to eating the 8 oz. cut up veggies or salad for lunch and dinner, that helps my weight loss. in defense of the protein bars, protein snacks, puddings, Syntrax Chocolate Truffle protein mix (all ordered from Diet Direct or Nashua Nutrition website) , snickerdoodle cookies (recipe in Nov. thread), they have prevented me from having a weight gain each week and have helped me lose 22 lbs. i never feel deprived and i am a true chocoholic so for me, has kept me on plan. i've lost every single week at weigh in for 17 weeks, approx. 1/2 to 3 lbs each week. i don't take any supplements at all, but do drink the HNSs (pink lemonade or Choc. truffle , 3/4 scoop 70 cal., 23 g. protein) at least 3 a day. my doctor told me if i took all the supplements MRC recommends, i would lose a little more but would gain once i was off of them. (i have a low tolerance to medicine so can't take all that stuff) i do limit the bars but thinking back on the days when i ate a bar instead of going thru a drive thru while on the road, feel like it was a better choice! This diet builds muscle and gets rid of the fat...gotta love that! also, like someone told me if you have problems w/ getting the water in, just remember you are flushing away fat! how's that for motivation? :-) hope everyone has a great weekend!! |
Quote:
anyway, a couple of time, i've put 3 peanuts (12 calories) in the blender w/ my chocolate shake and it really adds flavor. funny how a little bit of flavor is enough |
Another pound bites the dust! Even with a sick munchkin, somehow, I lost another pound since Monday. Only 8.5 pounds to go! Oh, and they did my inches on Monday. I'm down 58 inches overall. :yay:
|
Hi everyone-
I must say I enjoy reading everyone's post - they give me encouragement and motivation. I have been a yo-yo dieter for most of my adult life and this go 'round is a bit slower than my previous attemps at weight loss. Could be due to my age or the fact that I am working at home now and don't have to get off my butt except to go to the bathroom or kitchen! I wasn't having much of a loss on the meta-slim plan (plus I was always starving and getting a headache every afternoon) so they switched me to meta-balance last weekend. I am feeling much better, but they tell me to only expect a 1-2 pound loss per week. Heck at my weigh in on Wednesday I was down 1.5 which I am happy with. Hope you all have a fabulous day! |
Jen...
You are doing so well.. I know how excited you are. You are almost there, and the inches are so impressive.. Good for you.. Pat yourself on the back, as you well deserve it.. fairychic... 1-2 pounds is a good weight loss weekly. I am glad they found a program for you that worked.. Well, today I wore my leggings and a blouse just to hit my butt area and a pair of boots.. I had bought the leggings, but for some reason I was too timid to wear them, but I did, and when I walked in center today, consultant said, you see, I told you, get some tight fitting clothes, as so many of my clothes fit but still were a bit baggy..I NEVER thought I would see the day I could wear leggings.. I wear the same pants for weigh in each time, with a light weight tee, so these leggings are thinner than the light pants I was wearing, and this will work out nicely.. As I have said over and over, the best thing in way of clothes is not wearing a tunic to disguise the fat..I don't have to do that anymore, and anything I went thru on the challenge was sure worth it. I promise you will feel like a new person when you reach your goal.. It is heavenly. I hear some of you talking about snacks.. I was on Meta Slim and no snacks allowed . Only snackI could have was an HNS if so desired. Does Meta Balance allow snacks? Just curious. Patzi |
Patzi: yes meta balance does allow snacks. I think that is what is keeping me from being hungry and getting hunger headaches. 3 snacks are allowed, one of which can be a bar and the other 2 are an HNS's (one with a dairy and the other with a fruit or fruit juice).
BTW -Congrat's on leggings! I am sure that is a great feeling to be able to wear fitted clothes. I am looking forward to that (hopefully in time for Spring!) |
Faerychic- I remember you mentioning Metibalance before. Even though I have been in MRC since Sept. and do like the basic concept very much, I get soooo wiped out almost every day by 11 am and again by 4 pm. I really need food more frequently. Sometimes I am shaky and lightheaded, always feeling exhausted. It becomes difficult to stay on plan when I feel so starved. I often end up having something-anything. I tried just an extra clear HNS or 2 but that didn't cut it. I also tried bigger protein servings. But when I really think I need is more frequent meals. Can you tell me more about that plan?
|
faerychic..
Thanks for information on snacks and the plan camaswa... I was told when I was hungry during Meta Slim, to take a piece of protein with HNS or have 1/2 bar with HNS. Protein used to do it for me.. But, if the program you are on, is not filling for you, I am sure if you tell the center, they will change it so that you are not hungry.. They told my friend who had the same problem, you never should be hungry, and they added and changed things for her on Meta Slim, and my other friend, they switched her over to Meta Balance. Hope this helps you.. By the way, glad to see you posting again. By the way, HNS never filled my hunger.Only when I added a piece of chicken or some protein with it.. Meat protein, not a cheese product. Last night was a challenge.. Went over a friend's house and she had homemade cheesecake with berry topping and after dinner drinks.. Mercy me.. I did not have any cheese cake, but I did have a brandy and took fat and carb blocker with it. Days past, I could have eaten the whole cheesecake.. Amazing what discipline can do. I don't feel sorry for myself any more if I don't have it , as before I would say poor me, but that does not work, I found it. Everyone have a wonderful day and try to stay focused. Patzi |

camaswa: what differs on metabalance from metaslim is that the HNS's are not eaten with your meals - they are your snacks (mid=morning, mid=afternoon, and evening). Snacks are a bar (you can have 1 everyday) or an HNS combined with a dairy, a fruit or fruit juice, or a starch. It really helps being able to eat a bar every afternoon since that was the time I would be so fatigued and hungry. Also, you only get 3 oz. of protein with meals instead of 4 and dairy is included with breakfast (love the addition of dairy - now I can have milk in my coffee)
Not sure yet how the weight loss is going to be on this plan for me but I certainly feel better - less cranky! |
thanks, faerychic for the info on metabalance. from what i read on the metabolic website, metaslim info says you can lose 3-5 lbs/week and the metabalance is 1 to 2 lbs/week. i'm happy with 1 to 2 lbs a week and keeping it off :-) i was "cheating" and having a protein bar after dinner every evening anyway (instead of chocolate ice cream or brownies!! or both!) and alot of times would add fruit to my HNS so guess i was kind of doing the metabalance anyway (but much happier and more likely to stick w/ that plan!) i was also drinking V-8 sometimes on the road if i couldn't get all my veggies in. Ok, cool, i'm in the honeymoon stage again and can't wait to get started on this plan. thanks!
Does red wine count as a fruit? and how many sprays of spray butter before it's actually a calorie? LOL! kidding. one of my silly dogs sees me spraying butter on my lite wheat bread in the am before i sprinkle cinnamon on so now she has to have spray butter on her dog food in the am. spoiled rotten! my pups have really helped me on this diet though.. DH got me a grilled chicken sandwich from Wendy's yesterday, no mayo! and i gave 3/4 of the bun to them...they are much more active then i am :-) and can afford the carbs... |
This is my second time joining MRC, and I'm excited to be making a change in my life...again. :) I started preconditioning last Sunday and will start meta-slim tomorrow. I know it's a crazy time of year to start, but I figured, why wait?
Glad to have found you guys. You are so encouraging. |
eb, it is hard time of year to start, but think how much damage you might do if you werent on plan during this time! I just got back from the grocery and here it is only Dec. 3 with temptations jumping out on every aisle. It actually made me kind of mad! No wonder many people gain so much this time of year. So even if you arent perfect over the next month, you will surely be better off than if you had waited till January 1. We all will be :)

metabalance
I just got back from my weigh-in. down 1 teeny but hard-earned pound. I asked about metabalance and picked up the plan. YOGURT!!!! I stopped at Trader joes on the way home and got some. their Greek non-fat is the best: highest protein i have found. In fact, I compared it to cottage cheese and thought - hey, i could have been eating this all along. It was practically identical. Anyway, I didnt fully decide to switch over, but definitely considering it. there have only been 2 times when I have lost more than 2# per week anyway. For me, I think this may be better. I would not have known about this option if not for this board. Once again, yay, you guys!
|
Well, we all know that everyone is different :) While one plan may work for one person, it may not work for another, so we need to keep this in mind. When I started Meta-slim, I had times of getting hungry, also. When she told me about Metabalance, I got real excited also....but I stopped losing weight on it. It worked more like a "maintanence" for me I think...
Anyway, it did not work for me. Instead, we came up with a game plan on Meta-Slim that would work for my late morning/late afternoon issues with feeling hungry. This has worked (for me) and I am losing weight....I try having a hard-boiled egg at those times, or a cheese stick, or do my creamy HNS at that time. Also, they have "Jello" and it can feel like you are eating something. There are options to try if you find that a particular menu isn't working for you. I agree, we don't want to be hungry because that will lead to poor choices:( I found these "Curb Bites" online that aren't real cheap, but have 24 chocolate covered carmels that are totally sugar free, 30 calories, and 400mg of Hoodia in them that are suppose to help with the hunger. Pretty sure these aren't on plan, but I will have those as a treat...(1 per day) and I think they work with curbing my hunger at times and fill that chocolate craving also. Many of MRC supplements contain "Hoodia" also, so probably an ok option....and low calorie...and did I mention delicious?!? :) Hang in there, ladies :) Have a great weekend...and remember that once we are in maintenance it will be different, but we are all trying to lose weight right now which is a challenge...but a temporary one. If you come across a menu that seems too good to work...it might just be...for your body anyway I am losing weight eating the way I never did before....that is why it is working. |

Tami, those sound like good ideas (the egg or string cheese). I had also thought about just moving 1 ounce of protein from breakfast and lunch to those in-between times, with something like celery or even an HNS. the pure plan says not to move anything around, so i was trying not to, but I do need to try something to even out my energy and blood sugar. You have done really well - an amazing loss: 45 pounds since August?! Wow.
|
Tamiki,
when you mention jello, is that MRC's jello or the sugar free FF jello? i've asked my counselor if i could have some of my protein for a snack in between meals and was told no, that this diet works by combination only and no eating in between. i also asked about SF FF jello and was told no, it wasn't on the plan. i should have asked you guys! way more helpful than my center...and you are successful w/ your weight loss, so it works! i was also told yesterday by the center that since i don't buy HNSs from them that there is no guarantee of weight loss and my contract is pretty much invalid. no big deal because i saved tons of money ordering from Diet Direct and used my own protein powders and lost weight so all good! just a word of warning, don't tell them you are buying the stuff from somewhere else. i guess they keep track of what you order in your folder, because she looked at the folder and told me she knew i haven't bought anything from them but the Phenatrim (that i didn't use-can't take it) and got suckered into the saliva test. oh well, it is worth it to get the diet plan that works! |
bigdog - they do keep track of the HSN's & supplements you purchase! I realized that at my weigh in today when the consultant listed off the items I had recently purchased.
So, 1 week on metabalance and I have lost 2.5 pounds. If I can continue with that for a weekly loss I will be a happy loser:p |
Quote:
They keep telling me wait until I hit my goal then I can read someog the things I have been without. But Have done good so far and hope to continue. |
Quote:
yeah, re: the center, they aren't very happy w/ me because i don't buy anything from them. (they didn't tell me i had to buy them in the beginning and when i attended the food nutrition class a week later, i thought they were going to talk about the food we could eat. the whole class was all about the pills and the selection of HNSs...she described every single one! no discussion about real food. gave everyone an order form and people checked the boxes and she collected credit cards and rang everything up. OMG, i was shocked.) so when i would go in the center, i leave my pocketbook in the car and just weigh in trying to avoid the sales pitch. anyway, it is a great diet and i'm happy w/ it. :-) |

but i have learned alot so i tune out the stuff i don't like... |
