i brew my coffee and use Folgers Lite (1/2 the caffeine) one consultant at my center said that was ok if i drink just one cup. i've read on this forum that alot of the centers are now allowing one cup of coffee a day... i personally can't drink more than that because it makes me jittery then i want to eat some carbs :-) in the evening though, i'll add a little left over coffee to my vanilla or choc. protein shake..

Cassie T 12-17-2011 01:48 PM

eb102106 I use the HNS Cocoa and mix one of the on-the-go packets of Nescafe instant coffee. They really didn't tell me caffeine was off plan, but that could have been because I didn't really have alot of caffeine to start with. I normally make the cocoa first and make sure it's mixed up really really good...sometimes it's hard to do. And then I add the packet of instant coffee and mix again. Adding just a small amount of water helps it dissolve and get the rest of the cocoa that's clumping on top. I also make sure I have a smallish coffee mug. Normally ones that come with dish sets are the best because their about 8-10 oz. These are the ones I use. Pour the cocoa in the mug...heat the kettle...pour in water pretty darn full...and stir like crazy...by the time the cocoa is starting to mix the water will go down a little less than 1/3 of the way down...pour in the coffee packet...add a bit more water and stir. The cocoa makes a foamy top and chocolatey flavor...the coffee gives me a caffeine kick that helps me jump start my day so I get an exercise in the morning and than do some house work and than go to work till 11 pm.

try stirring it with a fork instead of a spoon. for some crazy reason, it works better :-)

Good Morning!

i survived last night's Christmas party and had planned ahead :-) i took a bottle of diet tonic water w/ me, had a little bit of vodka for the first drink w/ lemons and limes and then refilled w/ tonic water the rest of the night. they had diet cranberry juice so added a splash of that to a couple of drinks.
i did sample some homemade turtle candy but mostly stuck to the cut up fruit, celery and cheese. they had ham biscuits and spinach dip, etc. and did have a bite but it was so rich and nasty to me (YAY!) i really like to eat "clean" now. i did have my tight jeans on. :-) to avoid overindulging. i noticed people getting louder and louder -(as they drank more) i was like wow, hadn't noticed that before LOL!
next is a Sunday Dinner Brunch w/ the inlaws @ the Country Club - guess i'll pile up on the veggies and seafood and just have one small dessert. i'm planning on drinking 4 HNSs tomorrow and no carb for b-fast and no fruit for lunch. i'll have to have wine - it's a necessity to survive the inlaws.:hat: i'll jump on my exercise bike for a few days besides walking to burn that off!

Regarding ordering from Diet Direct and Nashua, i get the Protidiet Pink Lemonade (clear HNS) and Hot Cocoa creamy HNS) Large Containers. i also like Syntrax choc. truffle and am going to try the lemonade. i've also bought Walmart vanilla protein powder - the Protidiet and Bariwise is the same cal and protein (15g) as MRC HNSs. The Syntrax brand is 100 cal. so i use less than one scoop. (has 23 g. protein)- the bars are a little cheaper too. wish they had more of the Protidiet flavors in the large containers...
i have alot of the pudding/shakes left and trying to find some cookie recipes to use them in. i can't get them to set like reg. pudding...some of the shakes are too sweet. i do like the Strawberry yogurt shake...

Rocki-- did you like the Syntrax Cherry?

Also, not really on plan but i've been making SF jello and having that for dessert daily. it's 10 cal and no sugar. has weaned me off the protein bars which i was eating like candy!
Diet Direct is offering free shipping!

That is great how you handled the country club party, Bigdog! and Im sure you felt good this morning too! I only have one more party then it will quiet down for me. That is just a happy hour with my immediate work team, at a brewery - boo. I will have one cocktail of some low- carb kind, not beer, that's for sure. The food will be crappy bar food, which doesnt really even tempt me. I will have a creamy HNS in decaf right before I go.

I have been having one just before my long (1 hr) bus or train commute home each day. It has really been helping me not go so low I eat the front door.

And that reminds me - at The Vitamin Shoppe I found single serving packets of that Choc Truffle protein some here have been raving about - OMG - so good, and no carbs at all! Im buying the giant size for sure.

I had another teeny loss this week - just one pound again. But given that I traveled all last week, had a big dinner party, then such a busy week this week that I didnt even get a menu planned or the right provisions bought, I am happy. And on my scales, buck naked after peeing, I have been under 170 for 3 days in a row. Today was 169 point nada. Now my next goal is to see that at the center weigh in!

Rocki 12-17-2011 04:50 PM

bigdog..the cherry should be here Monday. I DID use my wildberry concentrate in club soda last night @ my company get together (per Patzi's advice) :).. I had 2 wine spritzers first though..I had my fish tacos and was completely on plan with food, but I had the wine and a whiskey sour. I was only up .1 this morning, so hopefully that will hold as I've been totally OP today. Going to German restaurant tomorrow (yuck) and will probably have a chicken salad b/c there's nothing else on their menu for me (maybe turkey club w/out bread)..

bigdog 12-17-2011 05:30 PM

that's excellent Camaswa!!! i noticed your ticker was at 171 today - woo hoo! 169 is the real number though -
when i go to the center to weigh, i make sure i don't have any water except to take my vitamins and sometimes don't eat because i want a good weigh in...wish i could weigh in before my sales meeting at 8:45 because i'm dying for water during the meeting... i love the chocolate truffle powder - no apartarme (sp) and since i'm lactose intolerant, it works great as the creamy too! i need to get my order in today if i'm going to get before Christmas..we are headed to the beach for the holiday. i can't wait! maybe i'll get the roadside lemonade to mix w/ my tequila for my carb free margaritas :-)

The Sunday buffet is tomorrow at the Club - i usually check out the chocolate fountain and desserts first but guess i'll fill up on fresh seafood which i love and allow for a small piece of cheesecake,

Company Christmas party Wed. and it's all centered around food -i think on the menu i saw collard greens but w/ ham hocks.... then my husband's boss gave him 4 boxes of gourmet triple chocolate popcorn...WTH??? i hope he eats it up quickly.
i've been passing out gifts for my customers (choc. covered peanuts, yogurt covered pnuts, candied pecans) and haven't snagged any! one bag was torn and i had a couple then put in a tin and left them at the party last night.

Pray for me please!!!!!!! i'm thinking....once on the lips, forever on the hips!!!

Weekend is nearly half over and I've done well! I've cheated the past two weekends and I really want to have a good one. I am actually really tempted to cheat right now but I don't have any goodies in the house!

My sis-in-law just flew in for a visit. She's staying with her other brother until my kids are out of school because my high school daughter really needs to spend this time studying for her finals, but once Wednesday is here she'll stay with us for about a week...which means not only do I get to make myself a special meal (I usually eat dinner out of the MRC cookbook) AND make dinner for the rest of my family, now I'll also be preparing vegetarian meals for her! Yay me. It really shouldn't be too hard, it's just annoying.

Another thought--does anyone have their blood pressure checked at weigh in? Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. It's higher at the center than it is at the doctor's office. Just before I started MRC, I had a health scare so I was in the doctor quite a bit for the previous month and registered a normal BP reading every time (120something/70something), but at MRC it's been higher. My lowest MRC reading so far was yesterday and it was 115/90something, which seems like a really weird reading.

Hello Ladies, I'm fairly new to this and I really enjoy reading the posts and all of the interesting info you guys share, with that being said my first 12 days were really tough, but I did manage to lose 6 pounds total. I am determined to finish this race.

eb102106 12-17-2011 08:50 PM

bigdog and Cassie T - Thanks so much for the info. I'm so excited to try this! Like I said, I was a Starbucks girl and miss it terribly. I also already love the hot cocoa supplement, so this sounds perfect. Woohoo! :carrot:

nwcgina 12-17-2011 11:54 PM

I survived 8 basketball games (13 hours) today and stayed OP...actually probably didn't eat enough. And made sure I grabbed a new water bottle each game so I was fully hydrated (I just sit there in case someone gets hurt, so it's not like I was actually DOING much).

As for the question of caffeine...my center told me no, my parents center told them 1-2 cups of coffee a day is fine. Most of the time I try to go decaf coffee & diet soda, but some days (like today), I'll have the real stuff (that way I really get the "benefit" of the caffeine). Caffeine can dehydrate you, so I always drink extra water.

Hoping to get 1 more lb off before Wed and then maintain for the following week...we travel 600+ miles each way to see my family at Christmas...I always eat when I travel, always eat at my family. But I have been making it through some rough working days the past week, so I should make it!

I agree! My first time I always looked forward to WI just so I could update my tracker! It's a visual motivater! I love this forum because of how supportive everybody is. There are a lot of different people since I was on last year, so I look forward to getting support and hopefully giving some to all :)

Thanks for your support! I really appreciate it! :D

Hi...
In answer to your blood pressure. I am a RN and I never have MRC do anything relative to my health.I keep saying they are not medical people. I am off blood pressure meds now, but when MRC asked me to take my blood pressure, I told her I was told by Mayo to take it the first thing when I get up in morning, and if high again in evening and use the same blood pressure monitor, so no need to have them take it. They were trying to sell me fish oil or that krill oil they sell as they said it was good for blood pressure. I still do that to this date. Every morning when I get up, after a shower, I take my blood pressure.. Your pressure could be up at MRC , as you may have been rushing to get there, etc.. Who knows. But I would take it at home and keep a journal of what it is every day, so when you go to doctor, he/she can see what your readings are...My blood pressure is always up when I go to doctor. I call that white coat syndrome. One I rushed to get there, I am a bit apprehensive of being there, and he knows that, so goes by my own readings. Hope this helps some.

Gina, pack some celery sticks and cut up veggies so you can munch on while traveling - i know sometimes i'm just bored so need something to chew on...my DH being a Chef - alot of times won't eat breakfast or lunch ((he eats dinner, then eats again after dinner, then midnight snacks!) so i always pack my HNSs and the creamy shake mix, protein bars and have those when traveling but on this upcoming trip, plan on having celery, cukes cut up w/ cheese cubes. i'll have the HNSs too.

i got into the triple chocolate popcorn last night just because it's here. i'm going to tell my DH to put those on a high shelf so i can't get into them! he's taller than me -

one guy takes my blood pressure each time and it's annoying. i've never had high blood pressure even before joining MRC - he told me they do it to show how well the MRC plan works even though i told him it wasn't high to start with... i'm always in a rush (i'm in sales) so am the type person that just wants to be weighed in and go! i envy the people that have great consultants because at my center, if i ask them anything their answer is...you need to take Corti trim, internal body cleanse, phena... whatever so i weigh in and get the heck out of there! ok, i'll stop talking about my center because this is a great program and thankful i found it. Tis the season to be jolly! :-) Ho, Ho, Ho!

nwcgina 12-18-2011 04:01 PM

Stepped on this morning and hit my goal of wanting to be at 167 before Christmas (at which point I just wanted to be able to maintain for the week). Excited, but then realized if I lose one more lb then I can say to my family "I'm 20 lbs lighter than the last time you saw me..." (not in a snotty way, we're all working on MRC except my sister who is already a healthy weight). i was going to start strictly OP anyhow, so whatever happens, happens:)

I love twizzlers when we drive, too. Sigh. I have some diet soda and gum, already trying to plan where we will stop for supper so I can get a good salad. But the driving will be harder than the actual gatherings I think. Oh, let's be honest, it will be a hard week. Planning on extra exercise and not beating myself up, just jumping right back on board so I can hit my goal weight by March 1..and then start training for my races this summer. I may sound like a broken record...but I've spent most of my life repeating negative phrases to myself, have to undo it with lots of positive, forward thinking.

I did a Jillian workout I hadn't done in a while...and wow, it is so much easier on my knees with almost 20 lbs gone!

Honestly, I never had either, until I started MRC. Even learning to enjoy the fresh ones was tough for me, because I really liked canned green beans. ;) But the longer you roast these (I did 20 mins total), the more tender they get--which I think is better, because I was so used to the soft, canned beans.

This is great teacherlady! I have never roasted string beans before - just asparagus and boroccoli. Look forward to reading your blog.

Cassie T 12-19-2011 12:41 PM

Well ladies....I finally...finally did it. After three weigh ins with no loss or gain I finally hit my first milestone...10!!! I have to this date lost 12 pounds. I think it really makes up for those weeks where I was starting to think...ah just throw in the towel cause your not making any progress anyways...yay me!!! :carrot:

patzi 12-19-2011 12:50 PM

We have been talking about roasting veggies.. When y'all hit maintenance, remember to try the following..Maybe even stabilization.. This is my favorite roasted medly
Eggplant
Onion
Butternut squash or any hard squash
sweet potatoes
garlic whole pieces

I put a light spray of olive oil and some savory herbs, I like Herbs De Provence herbs, and if I am out of this herb, like a combo of rosemary, thyme,
sage, no salt and pepper.. Sometimes I take soy parmesan cheese, and season that in with it.. You could use no fat parm. I season these with my hands same way you would do a meatloaf mixture,to make sure all evenly distributed.

This is delicious and the the house smells heavenly when this is cooking.
I cook at 425 for about 40-45 minutes. My friend's stove does it in 30,so you need to check.

Patzi

nwcgina 12-19-2011 03:29 PM

I can't wait to have onions and sweet potatoes again:) Funny that what I'm looking forward to the most is some fruits, veggies, and milk products that are off plan. Mother in law has an amazing squash soup recipe that was amazing...but basically has butternut squash, sweet potoates, and onions...can't wait to "get there" and make it.

camaswa 12-19-2011 04:57 PM

Gina and Missouri, Why dont you try taking a shaker and some meal replacement shakes? Your could keep adding ice so you had a lot to sip on as you drive. If you can keep yourself from eating more than one bar a day, that is an option too. You may be able to guess that I cant stay out of them myself. But on a recent trip I did maintain that way.

And teacherlady, Im so excited to read your blog!! I love any veggie roasted. Last night I did eggplant, zuccini and baby artichokes. I tossed in a couple off-plan tomatoes....

Today I recommitted to a food journal, which I havent been keeping. I went up almost a pound over the weekend without really knowing why. I am not going seriously off plan -or I dont think so anyway - but I;m also not being diligent enought to make much progress. Lots of people say that MRC really needs to be followed exactly and they are right. I can get away with slacking off a little sometimes, then suddenly it hits me.

Right now I am getting a little tired of all this, I have to admit. But then I think of how much progress I would be reversing if I gave up or even 'took a break' now. So today, I am writing down every bit again.

camaswa 12-19-2011 05:03 PM

teacherlady - I went to your site! Its going to become a great resource!!! im so impressed that you are doing this

This chocolate truffle protein drink you folks have been talking about...does that count as a creamy? Or a regular HNS? And the fuzzy navel, etc., same question. Trying to figure out if it's worth buying it online.

Love this program. I'm down 23 pounds and people are starting to notice....

I use the Syntrax protein powder as a clear HNS... i use 3/4 scoop which is 75 cal. i love the Choc. Truffle. i tried the Orange - it's good but i got tired of it. i ordered the Roadside lemonade and should get that this week. i also order the large container of Protidiet Pink Lemonade (70 cal, 15 gr. protein) The clear HNSs at MRC are 70 cal., 15 G. protein.

here's the nutritional info for: Syntrax Nectar protein powder $34.99 (Diet Direct) Serving Size: 1/4 Scoop (7g)

Hi ladies...wow! There is so much to catch up on when you miss a couple of days on this forum!!

I just returned from a weekend in Vegas, and it was lots of fun...and lots of OFF program foods:( The good thing I did was keep consistent with taking all of my supplements and HNS daily :) I tried to be "aware" and make "better" choices than others mostly, but vacations are just tough...with a teen daughter who loves having junk food around at all times...lol

Honestly, I am scared to get on the scale in the morning...I am trying to "cleanse" a bit first, but I have my WI Wednesday morning. I was the one up 2lbs last week, so this trip didn't happen at a real good time. One would think that my motivation from having a not so great WI last week would be high to get it under control this week...and if I were at home, that might have helped. There are times though that I get discouraged and very consciously make poor choices because of it. Not a healthy mind-set to be in...

But, I am home now and will get back on track...I may have wanted to start "Stabilization" the end of December....may need to put that off for a little while.

I had a big day of "I'm sick of this" yesterday...I only had one HNS b/c I just couldn't stomach any more...and had 2 cookies (I hadn't had ANY in 2 months!). And the kicker of it all was I was at my lowest weight EVER. I have to remind myself that if I let up over the next week and a half until January thinking I'll restart then, I could take some serious steps back. So onward. I have to keep my food journal, it's the only thing that keeps me accountable...and even then I almost didn't write down the cookies...but what good would a food journal do if I didn't write EVERYTHING down?

ok, one holiday dinner after another, parties and more parties ahead and then Christmas vacation at the beach...i'm going to continue to track online and try to maintain -and work on not gaining!!! i'm going to continue w/ the HNSs daily and step up the activity. will also make sure i'm drinking even more water than i do already.
i made some strawberry sugar free jello and added a package of strawberry creme protein shake - i really need a high protein low cal dessert to turn to when i'm tempted...i'm going to have to cheat and have some lite cool whip for 20 cal. :-)
i keep hiding the triple chocolate popcorn that someone gave my DH -he's not eating it quickly enough and i got into it again - just a small cup but still!!! he asked where it was tonight and i felt like stuffing the rest of it in his mouth!! just so it would be gone. (i put it in the bottom of the china cabinet so i wouldn't see it)
i need to buy some more veggies and have them prepared so i can grab them when i get tempted... i am chewing my dessert sugarless gum - i love it!! key lime pie, strawberry shortcake and mint chocolate - it's sooooo good!
just writing this stuff down makes me realize it would be really stupid for me to eat this junk that 's in the house and stop eating the chinese food and eating out because i'm slammed at work, etc....Greek food today - ate the salad and gyro meat w/ no pita bread....so lately not eating on plan but trying to eat mostly meat and veggies ... and aiming to be OP tomorrow!!

bigdog-I think its great that you are doing your best to eat the best that you can this time of year. If you can maintain, you'll only have 8 lbs to go once you hit 2012! Won't that be awesome??? Veggies and water...I figure if I work really hard at getting those, I won't have as much room for other goodies.

Bad news: 14 year old daughter + high school = STRESSING ME OUT!!! Long story short, she's been a competitive gymnast most of her life and due to all the time spent in the gym, she's been struggling in school. We had done a mix of homeschool and public school in the past due to her gym schedule and this year planned on homeschooling for good, but she ended up "retiring" from gymnastics over the summer and wanted to go to public high school. She has been struggling from day 1 and most of it is her own fault. I've been eating terribly and just generally not caring anymore. According to my scale, I've put on 3-4 pounds. :o

Good news: I haven't completely ruined everything. I now need a belt to wear all of my pants. Gonna do Metaquick to get back on track. Thankfully, I'm pretty sure I'm all sugared out.

you are right Gina - i'm so close and can't backslide now! plus i feel great when i'm eating on plan.

Bighog, i'm doing Mediquick today also to undo the crazy overeating and "sweets" overload We can do this. no matter what is going on in our lives, if we take care of ourselves and stay on plan, at least we can control that part of our lives :-)
i hate when i go off plan and feel like crap, and stuffed. bleah...

Hi...

I had maintenance weigh in this morning and lost 1 pound putting me 6 pounds under goal... I lost this pound intentionally, as I have a party coming Christmas Eve and there is Christmas Day. So needless to say, I am happy on the weigh in.

Big Dog... What online journaling did you say you use? I think Teacher Lady said she uses LiveStrong, but not sure. Will have to pull up to see if that is what it is. I still journal every day on maintenance. It keeps me focused and accountable. I carry this small journal in my bag.

I made baklava for my holiday company Xmas Day,which is basically family, and that about kills me not eating it, but I won't. I will have a healthy dessert for people on a diet. Stretching the diet a bit, but better than the baklava.
I will make an apple cranberry crumble, and that will be my dessert with my Christmas meal along with some wine and rest of meal. I just can't see gaining a bunch of weight during the party and the holiday meal and then spending so much time getting it off.. So we shall see that is my focus for the up and coming..

Wishing everyone a great day, and hang in there ladies, just try to stay focused .

Congrats to all those that lost weight.

i use myfitnesspal.com and customized my goal. i put in the 60% for protein, 20% fat and 20% carbs and 1100 calories daily and it gives me a total of where i'm at when i plug in what i eat. i used the livestrong but i couldn't find alot of the stuff that i eat and MFP seemed to have everything so i didn't have to keep adding to their list. plus i loaded the app (free) in my blackberry and can use on the road. they share some good recipes, fitness tips, etc on their blogs too so interesting reading.

the good thing is that i'm writing every single thing down even the triple chocolate popcorn - which is actually 120 cal. for 1/4 cup - not as bad as what fudge would be and before this program i would have eaten a lot more than 1/4 cup!!! knowing that i'm going to be honest and write everything down in MFP will keep me from eating more than a couple bites if i really really want to taste something. eating the Greek platter yesterday, just had the gyro meat and the salad - not the fries or the pita bread - did eat the feta cheese though! we are having Greek food again tomorrow night and planning on getting the Spinach pie and greek salad...they will have Baklava..i think they have flan too - i'll have to ck out the calories of that. i'm doing more calorie counting and staying under 1200 plus exercising more for the party days..
