GWE, you're right, tonight I went for my second attempt (without the stroller) and it was much easier. It felt amazing! I didn't feel as overworked as I did on Sunday. I wonder if the stroller has anything to do with it?!

RachelOnADiet 05-06-2009 07:58 PM

I feel so lazy! I was gonna go for my second run yesterday, but I didn't have time, and I couldn't go today because of the rain. I could have gone to the gym I suppose, but I loathe treadmills... Maybe tomorrow!

I bet the stroller did slow you down a bit on your first run...:) Congrats on doing your second run...the third will be that much easier...then week two day one will be a little struggle...but it does feel wonderful after you have completed the last interval! I am on week four this week and I am doing just fine, the longer intervals are easier once I get going...good luck this week

I didn't do my run yesterday either...TOM...feeling awful for not running...I decided to to take my workout clothes to work and changed into them after work and headed to the gym, before mommy duty. It has been raining so much the past few weeks I just go to the gym and run on the treadmill for consistency. On very nice days (weekends) I have started bike riding with my kids and really enjoy it. Don't knock yourself for not running...just pick up where you left off...in a month you are going to feel great and look great too.

GWE,

Thank you for yor words of wisdom again. Do you do any type of exercise on your 'off' days? After having an emotional day yesterday and eating a Hershey bar, I decided that I wanted to do something to get my heart rate up. So I did the Biggest Loser Bootcamp DVD. I didn't do it as 'hard' as I normally would've if I wasn't on the running program. While doing squats/lunges, I really felt it in my backside and my leg muscles so I toned down my intensity as I didn't want to risk not being able to run today. Although I don't know if I'll be able to or not since it's raining.

Noahsmama,

No I do not do exercise on my days off from running except on the nice weekends, I will go bike riding with my kids, 6 to 8 miles. I am trying not to injure myself so I am strong for my runs...I do plan on working with weights in a month or so...I made the mistake one weekend and went bike riding with my son after a run and my legs and ankles were killing me I absolutely had no energy. I run on Sunday so Saturdays are bike riding days...Today we finally had a beautiful day in the 80's without rain!

noahsmama 05-07-2009 09:57 PM

GWE,

I went for my 3rd run and it felt really good, I must admit. I'll start week 2 on Sunday (mother's day ironically). I think I made the mistake of doing a workout DVD last night and I don't know if it's that in combination w/the running, but I can really feel a 'good soreness' in my sides/glutes!! It's such an awesome feeling. I've been on my bike 3 times (since like 15 years ago) and I don't know but I can't even hardly go for 10 min. and my legs are killing me. I don't know if it's the weight of Noah (all 23 lbs of him) or just what, different muscles being used. I'd really like to do it for something different, plus Noah likes it, if I could just go longer. It's frustrating.

I'm sure this has been asked elsewhere, but how much exercise is too much? I already work out three days a week with a trainer (cardio & weights), and I want to continue this running thing, which is also three days a week. Is that too much?

noahsmama 05-08-2009 08:32 AM

My center told me that they do not want you exercising more than 4 hours a week.

Working out too much is definitely a problem (from what my center says). I used to work out 2 hours a day, 7x a week. They bumped me down to working out 5x a week for a maximum of 200 minutes for the entire week. They said anything more than 200 minutes total for the week would begin eating away at lean muscle. Which it has for me. I've lost 1.5 lbs of lean muscle mass since the beginning. I was working out more like 250 minutes a week because of stress and I think it's really taken a toll on my fat loss.

Talk to you center about your workout and they can calculate how many minutes a week you should be working out and what type of work out. Then plan out your week's workout and stick to it.

Ok, that's what I needed to know. Thanks, y'all

Well I finally moved into week four...3 and 5 min run intervals with only 90 sec and 2.5 min walks, It was easier running than walking...? I guess after you get going during the 5 min run my body didn't like adjusting to the walk...go figure? Looking at week five ahead it looks like I will be running on day three for a full 20 mins...I hope I survive :):stars::stars:

Wow GWE!
You're moving right along. I'm still working on week 3 - have had a few days of rain and social events that have been preventing me from sticking with the every other day schedule but I'm still trying. I will prob run Sat and Sun just to get through week 3 by the end of the weekend and then start week 4 next week. That is so exciting to hear how well you're doing with it and I can't wait to join you there. I'm really starting to notice a difference in how my legs and hips look and I'm loving it! Everyone else has begun to notice as well, family, friends etc. I have pretty much had to stop wearing most of my old pants, especially jeans. They hang down below my hips and looked ridiculous so I put them in a pile to go and purchased 2 new pair. The best part of it all is pretty soon I will be out of Lane Bryant clothes and be able to shop in regular stores. I have not shopped in Express etc for 8 or 9 years!!

Has anyone on here done the 9 weeks on a bike instead of a treadmill? I had surgery 8 weeks ago and my Dr has said no impact, just a bike or the pool.

Karen,

Thank you!!! Yes, I am MOVING along...completed W5D1 yesterday, 5 min run, 3 min walk run 3xs. My son is graduating this coming week and I have been so busy with afterschool activities, choir concerts for my daughter etc that it has been a struggle keeping on schedule...so I just marked up my calendar in Outlook printed it out for the rest four weeks to ensure I complete the 9 weeks - No way I hooked! My last day C26K will be when I am on a trip to Chicago in June...After the C25K I am going to start the OHR (One Hour Runner) program...info here http://mindplunge.com/c25k/one-hour-runner.html
I have toned up quite a bit...I bet it feels WONDERFUL throwing away those larger sized jeans! Congrats! Lane Bryant GOODBYE!
I will run W5D2 on Sunday and Tuesday I will run W5D3 - Noticed I said I will...yes I will complete the 20 min run! I have read on other blogs how many people give up after week 4 on the C25K program...I guess it must be the longer runs...but the program is designed to get you there...I have finally starting breathing more at rhythm and not huffing and puffing as in the earlier weeks. I hope your runs back to back (Sat. Sun) go well. Have a great week, I will check in here after my first 20 min run on Tuesday to let you know how it went! :dancer::dancer:
