I've had this nasty respitory cold this week - it's the first week I have not run on my M-W-F schedule. I can't believe how bad I miss it. I did run on Monday, but the cold got too bad by Wednesday. I'm in the 7th week - the 28 min run. Weight is still coming off at a stead 2.5 - 3 lbs per week. It feels weird, I'm at a lower weight now than I was in stabilization last time - this last 5 lbs feels like it's taking forever. 3 more lbs to go and I get to start stabilization. I'm not completely convinced I like being this thin. My clothing is much bigger at this weight than it was in Oct. I know it's because of the muscle tone - I'm much smaller in inches for the same weight. I have a tanita & measurements scheduled for the next wi, so we'll see how big the difference is. I had to break down and take mucinex so I could get some sleep - the coughing is killing me. Hope to have it out of my system so it doesn't mess up the tanita reading.

Wow you are all AWESOME!! I really don't like running, but I want to like it!! One of my friends had suggested of setting an exercise goal in addition to weight goals. Where can I get a training schedule and are the podcasts from Itunes? Thank you for the inspiration!!! Keep it up!

Well I did the first day on the 5k program, except I got the intervals backwards. I did my brisk walk for 5 min, then jog for 90sec at 4.4 and walk at 3.5 for 60sec. I haven't ran in years, but have done alot of walking. My muscles were pretty sore today. I had to sit in the tub in the am and pm to get them relaxed plus alot of stretching. The I saw that I had the intervals backwards. Tommorrow should be easier. I also bought some running shoes, so hopefully that will help.

Great job Sharriannia! I remember how hard the first couple weeks were. I'm starting to feel healthy enough to run again on Wed. After a full week off, I'm hoping I didn't get set back too far. My DH just said run until you feel like you've gone as far as you can. I just laughed and told him I've felt that way at the halfway point every single week since I've started. I've pushed myself way beyond what I ever thought possible because that's what the plan said to do! Just think, in 9 weeks, you will be running a 5k!!!!

After my second run om Monday, my right foot is killing me. Did anyone have problems when they first started out? Ice is helping, it is slightly swollen on the outer side, but no bruising. I was thinking of trying to run run on an elliptical machine, but I'm not sure. Anyone have any suggestions? I really want to do this program, or maybe I need to take 1week off and swim this week. ;)

I have been doing the program for the last 6 weeks. Week six has me struggling. then I got sick with a respiratory thing and I was out for 2 weeks! Last night I truly felt like I was starting over. :( I ran 5, walked 3, etc. then I could only run 3. I was so bummed. Hopefully I will not lose too much time. i am supposed to be able to run like 20 minutes next week. Obviously not going to happen! If I can just get back to week 6, by next week, I will be happy. I also HATE running-always have, always will. So it is a real struggle to do it!

hang in there everyone!

sharriannia 03-08-2009 12:40 AM

I had the respiratory thing too, I tried running today and I had to stop after 20 min, I was too SOB and getting dizzy. I'm gonna try again on Mon, hopefully my body is over this stoopid virus. I'm gonna have a party or buy some jewelry when I can a 5K.:p

After a 2 week break because of the respitatory sickness, I finally got back and ran on Monday night. I was really dragging my feet because I wasn't sure what I should shoot for. I left off on week 8. So I just focused on endurance at a lower run speed. I was running at 5.8 mph and I kicked it down to 5mph and actually made it 28 minutes! I got pretty winded at the end but I wasn't nearly as out of breath and sweaty as I normally get. I'm going to run again today and figured I'd shoot for 5.1 mph and 28 minutes again. Next week, I'll shoot for the 30 minutes and just work on getting my speed back up. There is another 5k on April 4th at our base gym and I heard there is a beautiful 10k, half marathon and full marthon in Lincoln in May. They said it's a gorgeous run and really fun because it draws huge crowds and over 6,000 runners each year. I'm not sure I would be up to that but it makes me want to set my next goal and start training for a 10k!!! yeah, I'm hooked!!

Glad you're feeling better! Where are you getting the info for the upcoming runs? I couldn't find anything online so I must not be googling the right things. I actually ran outside on the trail last week and it went pretty well. Not sure I made it the full 3 miles because I wasn't sure of how to measure the distance. I just went by the time. I thought I would be sore after but I didn't have any pain. I was afraid my 41 year old knees would not like the concrete. I know it was only once but I was encouraged that I didn't have any soreness afterward. I'm looking forward to the warmer weather so I can do it more often. The trail is right by my house so it's pretty convenient for me.

WOW! Your new picture is stunning!! I'm really excited about running on the trail too. I haven't tried anything but the treadmill and outdoor track. I'm going to check out Peak Performance by the center - I heard from several runners that's the best place to go. They will analyze your feet and run style and get you in the best shoe. I figured I should have a good shoe before I try hitting the pavement with my 44 year old body!! I have nike running shoes right now, but not sure they are the best for me. The treadmill forgives a lot because of the built in shock absorber.

I finally found a site that lists the runs - it's the Omaha Run Club - http://www.omaharun.org/running/calendar.php
and that is the link to their calendar of upcoming runs. There are some really good local runs coming up. There is a Bellevue "runway run" in May - it's 7 miles!!! I am really going to have to train hard for that!! And at the end of May there is a Bellevue "barnbuster" 10k to raise money for the optimist club. Those are some pretty lofty goals, but I think I can do it. We went from nothing to a 5k in roughly 2 months.

Are you interested in the doing the April Fools 5k with me? It's $10 and on the base - we can ride together.

ShineOn 03-12-2009 10:56 AM

If you ever want to trail run together - I'm game. My husband is not crazy about the idea of me running by myself - even though the trail looks perfectly safe to me.

Thanks, Gina! I figured I needed a new pic since I don't have the double chin anymore:carrot: I'd love to do the April 1 run with you! I was a little scared to run on a track but now that I've tried it, I think I will be fine. I don't like to run by myself on the trail either so I took my dog :) I don't mind if it's busy, but when no one's around it can be kind of creepy. I run on Mon, Wed, and Fri. (or Sat depending on my schedule) so when the weather gets warmer we'll have to try it together. I am shorter than you so hopefully I could keep up!

I'll check out that website. I must have been looking in the wrong place. Let me know about the April 1 run....sounds like fun!

sharriannia 03-12-2009 10:29 PM

I've been on a treadmill and my outer R foot has been hurting. Has anyone had a similar experience? I'm gonna try running on asphalt, but I'm a little nervous. My trainer at the gym suggested jogging at a faster speed, so I'll see how that goes tomorrow am. I'm very pleased so far, I never thought I would ever do more than walk for exercise!!! Also I have alternated my days with swimming, this is the first time I have exercised 5 days in a row without being utterly exhausted and sore. :carrot: Hopefully this means I'm getting more muscle.
